Captivate Windows Phone - Captivate General

Hi Y'all, Just bricked hard bricked my captivate, so its off to become unbrickable, so it got me thinking, who here would put in some cash to buy a cappy and get it unbrickabled for a Dev to port windows phone to the cappy? Maybe try and get featured on the XDA home page.
Anyhoo just an idea

Windows Phone 7 is closed source. The reason why it's good is also the reason you won't get it.
Also you can get a Samsung Focus (Captivate running WP7) off contract for under $250.

I think WP on Captivate is impossible, due to it Chipset and GPU.

I personally think porting win mobile would be a complete loss for the captivate. i thought the whole idea of the android operating system is about freedon and doesnt win mobile pratically take that from you? please dont flame i have never used windows mobile except on my old pantech duo and my old blackjack.

Yeah but all porting it would do is it would give is options, its not like we would be stuck with it.

There are launchers that you can use that would replicate the Windows7 feel on the Captivate.
One that comes to mind is Launcher7

This is better option then porting the whole OS, as WP still lacks many features and apps.....I am using Lumia 900 and I am returning it soon...Tiles concept is good but it needs to develop more...

Agreed. I had the LG Quantum WP7 and I loved it for about a month or so before I sold it on Amazon. WP7 is an awesome concept. It would be AWESOMER if Microsoft would release its sources (that's a laugh, right?)
ANYWHO.... if you want a WP7-like experience, I suggest going with Launcher 7 (DONATE version) or Metro UI (it's "ehh" IMHO)

Yes and no, i know that their is some themes on cydia that you can download for it but as far as porting the os it probably will never happen, its just to hard to get any other os to run on an apple product. We had a hard enough time getting android on the 2g and 3g and their over 2 years old. so yes it might one day but lets be honest you probably wont still have the phone

Android is filled with options. If a developer wants to pursue it, then let them.
Don't like it? Don't look at this thread then. Some people would use the ROM to play around with.

TouchWiz and Sense are not "apps" they're customized versions of Android OS.
We saw Android run on iDevices. We saw Android run on WP devices (HTC HD7 or something).
That's like saying.. ever seen a PC run Linux?
Anything is possible. As long as somebody puts the time and effort into it. Is it worth putting so much time and effort into WebOS? Not at all. Would it be nice to try out? Sure.
Facts are fact, we have seen Android on iDevices and Windows phones simply because Android is open source. WebOS is not, and without the source code its not gonna happen.

I too would love to see WebOS on the Nexus S. Android is nice and all but sometimes it's nice to take a break from it.

Obselete..

The other day i was thinking who tells when a phone timez is up. Lets say this LG phone. What time will devs be like (this is the last day for this phone, no more ROMing from my side for this phone).
Is it
when Jelly Beans comes out? or
Keylime Pie makes an entrance? or
when 512 MB RAM just doesn't cut in any more.
long story short, when does the phone actually ends his life? Or it doesn't and ppl just move on before the phone dies on them.

I think it just depends on when devs move on to a new device basically. Sometimes a new dev will emerge and sometimes not. The older a phone gets the more likely it is that no new devs will pop up.

Jeez, it was publicly announced just a couple of days ago.
No way you will ever have 3D capabilities on that ROM, by the way.

And yeah, your were still too early on this. We barely got 4.0.4 and now here you want a port of a Pre-released OS. Also 3D functions is still shady or might really not have.

Android 4.2 and 5.0 touch wiz

And the rant begins...
Felt like venting to my fellow XDA members at how utterly ridiculous these lags in updates are.
How on earth does Google release android 4.2 Jelly Bean back in October 2012, and only TWO phones are currently running it?
Is Google being held hostage by each carrier so much to the point of a simple .1 update? What will it take for this nonsense to finally come to an end!?
Not to mention Verizon leaks 4.1.2 out this week and they removed premium suite....what exactly did this update offer?
I cant see a successful future for any of these companies or Google if this cancerous relationship between the OS and Carrier continues much longer.
And supposedly 5.0 key lime pie is coming in May?
What phones will be running 5.0 out of the gates if any? My guess is Galaxy S4 will drop with 4.2 or possibly even 4.1.2
Any thoughts?

I Dont get why Google doesn't stand its ground. All phones should be running AOSP. I have actually grown to like touchwiz but if all phones ran AOSP, I bet updates would come quicker. May not be right away for companies like Verizon to add boat, but that's it. There's no standard. While that does add variety and choice, it also adds confusion. Whatever the aosp release is at is basically a beta in everything but name. Its deployed to a small group of rather technical users where issues can be ironed out. Then months later everyone else gets the carrier's and manufacturer's refinements/adulteration of android. And repeat.
If you want to be in he new release club you need a Nexus or phone that's popular but long in the tooth so the hardware is pretty much mastered. If you buy a non nexus phone you sign up knowing full well that you are at the mercy of a 3rd party. This isn't 2010 anymore . the pattern is well established.

Hard to believe, based on their behavior.
When the Hell will they get it through their heads that they really don't need to be involved with much? I pay Verizon to provide a network (and ONLY a network), not hold my hand. I mean, really? I'm almost willing to bet it drops with 4.2. I'll give you a breakdown.
Does Google handle the customer service if a Android device has issues? No. Who does? Either the carrier or the manufacturer. That being said, there needs to be documentation of every single little thing done in an update in order for proper support on both ends of distribution. Customer service has to be trained along with tech support and any type of sales person, which takes time and money. On the software side it seems Samsung is pretty solid. We've gone from 4.0.4 to (soon) 4.1.2 with a total of (correct me if I'm wrong) 4 updates and this phone hasn't even been out for a year. When it comes to the "premium suite" did you ever consider the possibility that the test build that we have is simply "bare?". Makes things easier to troubleshoot if you don't pack in every single little feature to begin with.
You have to remember that you don't pay for the updates themselves. Yes, you paid for the phone but when you buy a Windows 8 laptop are you going to get mad because you won't get the next version for free? I don't speak for other manufacturers but have to say Samsung is doing a pretty damn good job with keeping us updated. Sorry, had to rant. Just irritates me.
Oh, and yes, they do it in order to sell more phones. But, can you blame them? Samsung is doing everything they can to stamp Apple out. That means releasing a flagship phone that will be the first of that manufacturer to launch with the newest software version.

Don't be sorry. There is some truth in what you have said. Our device has made the jump from ICS to JB which I am very thankful for. Kudos to Samsung there.
My issue is that the S3 and Note 2 are in my opinion the best phones to date... and the carriers are so stupid that they can't communicate with Google and prepare customer service for the release of the new OS on or near its release date... Then Google will announce android 5.0 just as the carriers are getting 4.1.2 or 4.2 .
I understand they want to keep the customers wanting more.... but at some point I feel that Google start developing hardware and move on.
Apparently Samsung has already begun the opposite..

Haha, yeah. I just didn't want to come across negative. thanks for being understanding. I do understand your frustrations. I don't see 5.0 dropping for awhile. Google said its going to slow down a bit in their releases because Jellybean is beautiful. It brought fluidity to a "fragmented" market and while only two phones officially have 4.2, jellybean is gaining a share of the updates. I think it and ICS almost comprise 50% of the market share for Android versions which is amazing in my opinion.
You know what I'd love? I'd love for the Galaxy S IV to use the new graphine dipped batteries. Can you imagine that with 2gb of RAM and just a revisioned Exynos Quad Core? It could run at a constant 1.0ghz minimum on each core with the screen on so that multitasking would be beautifully smooth and would be easier on battery life since tasks could start and end quickly. But, anyway, If Google is going to go directly into hardware they'd have a good start. I'd love a Nexus phone to rock a MAXX battery and a 1080p AMOLED. If I recall the new AMOLED that will be in the GS4 uses 25% less battery. The combination would be ermahgerd.
Also, didn't Samsung already try another OS? pretty sure Bada didn't do too well lol.
