Trying to help a friend here. They have a stock Infuse, not rooted, and they broke their screen. They have a replacement from AT&T already. Is there any way I can recover anything from the busted one? Adb maybe? It turns on and the buttons light up but nothing else displays.
Yeah adb should do the trick, not too familiar with it my self only use it for the reboot commands but yeah it should do what you want as long as you know what your doing with it

Hey all, I've got a strange problem. I'm using 3DKobes Honey Bread v.97 which I think is based off of Gingersense. Anyways, I got it running fine and started putting my personal data back on, etc... So, I did a reboot after installing everything just to help a bit and when the lock screen came up, I had no lock ring. All that is there is the notification bar and my wallpaper. I was not smart enough to make a backup before I rebooted. Is it possible that the actual lock screen apk or whatever could have been deleted? I tried to flash the same ROM back over top with no luck. Is there some way I could maybe push the lock screen back in if it is truly missing? I restored to my Gingersense 1.5 backup and the lock screen is working fine on that one. Any ideas?
TL; DR My lock ring is missing from my lock screen and I can't unlock the phone. Any ideas?
Any thoughts?

Probably not getting responses since he doesn't post roms here anymore.

You could push the info in using adb but you would have to figure out the files missing or corrupted. Sounds like either you got a bad download or he screwed something up in rom and you just need to flash something else til he fixes it.

So I'm going to be buying this phone as a short term, and "cheap" replacement for my current phone. I'm looking around on ebay, and I was able to find one for $140, however it says the phone will not go into sleep mode.
I'm assuming this is just a bug in the software, but I could be wrong. The guy says it turns off and on just fine, so I don't think its the power button, but, again, I could be wrong.
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, will flashing a new ROM fix it?
Thanks for your help!
I'm not sure what sleep mode means but if he says the hardware button works fine than Go for it lol. I had that issue and just reflashing cm7 did it for me

I'm assuming he means Screen Lock where the screen is off.
Yeah, I figured flashing CM7 or something would fix it, but I figured I'd ask before I got it and realized nothing would fix it.

If worse came to worse there's probably a way to remap the power function to a different key

If he's got insurance send it in... If not find a local cell pnone repair, there on craigslist usually you can find someone to fix it no problems.

Here is a little secret I will let you in on. This coming from experience on fixing phones. Do this.
1st disassemble the phone. You may need a t5 or t6 screwdriver. Don't need to seperate the digitizer from the bezel. Just strip it down so you can access the circuit boards.
2nd get a very copious amount of isopropil alcohol and a small brush. There will also be a part of the main board that has a metal cover over it. Pry those off carefully. Once you stripped it down, brush the alcohol over all of the circuitboards and connections. What this will do is break the corrosion off the circuits. Believe me it is there even though you can't see it. Let the phone sit for about a day so that it can be completely dried.
3rd reassemble and then power up. It should work like it is new.
I did this twice in the last month. Once to a iPhone 3gs (it was my brother's I wouldn't have done it otherwise) and a mytouch 3G slide. Both worked like New afterward.

what is your hboot version? if it is 1.44.0007, have you tried running Revolutionary to S-OFF? i am not sure if it would work tho if you can't boot into the system.
your other hope is to flash the newer stock firmware file, and at least be able to boot into the newest stock ROM. after that you you wouldn't be able to S-OFF, but you could use the HTC unlock tool, and be able to root, and flash ROMs. if it comes to this, try the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508406, dowloading the stock firmware file and flashing it as instructed there.
hopefully this helps ya.
Believe me it's not a software issue. It's a corrosion issue. You can load all the software you want and it will still mock you. The mytouch 3G slide acted the exact same way. Once brushed it with alcohol it worked like new.

yeah, i guess we were writing at the exact same time. i thought maybe it sounded like a bootloop, although you generally don't get bootloops if you haven't rooted and flashed something wrong. and water damage probably wouldn't lead to a software issue.
but anyway, hopefully the device can be made to work again. thanks for the tips!
Hi guys, here is the story. I have a rooted Skyrocket running CM9. Yesterday morning, the screen just went black. Can't see a thing. I can still receive calls, the phone is functional. Went to the AT&T store, they called their warranty department, and it was decided I'd be sent a refurbished Skyrocket. I have to send my old one in. I'm worried about my warranty being voided since I am rooted. Is this a valid concern? Will AT&T being able to determine if I am rooted with the screen not being functional? Is there a program I can use on my computer to view my screen so I can unroot my phone? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hold the vol- and power button to put the phone into download mode and wait luke 30 seconds then press vol+ to get into the actual download mode then use odin to go back to stock.

The screen doesn't work then you have nothing to worry about. I sent in a rooted SR that was stuck on Samsung logo and couldn't get into download mode and never had an issue.

They just want their phone back. Plain and simple. It's not the firmware, is the hardware they want back.

Adb reboot download then Odin stock.

As the topic states...my power button is broke so I have to get a refurb from VZW. Is there any way to transfer a TWRP backup or make an Odin .tar image that I can flash on my new phone?
Thanks!!!

Your power button is broken in what way? Broken as in even removing it and pressing the white button under the board does absolutely nothing?
Is the phone powered on? If so, just boot into TWRP via your rom or GooManager and perform a backup. Transfer that zip to a computer. If the phone is currently powered off, I'm afraid I know of no way to get it powered on unless you disassemble it. Maybe someone else knows a way?

Well, I can power it on and off...but the power button is very sensitive, even touching near the side will cause it to stick. If you press it the screen will constantly turn on and off, and sometimes the power menu will keep showing up.
I did a twrp backup to my external SD. Is there anything else I need to do so the new phone recognizes it?
Thanks!!!

Nah, just like @dmonleo says, root/unlock and you're good. Mine was like that recently, oddly enough doing the following helped. Try this. Might work, might not.

I actually received my 2nd refurb today from Verizon due to the same issue. The first 6 months of owning the phone, I had the power button sensitivity issue where I won't even need to push it to turn on/off the screen. Now 8 months later, the exact same thing is happening. Now I'm just wondering if I can just flash the stock image and send it back rooted/unlocked.
