Any way to backup my phone image? Getting a refurb from VZW >.< - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

As the topic states...my power button is broke so I have to get a refurb from VZW. Is there any way to transfer a TWRP backup or make an Odin .tar image that I can flash on my new phone?
Thanks!!!

Your power button is broken in what way? Broken as in even removing it and pressing the white button under the board does absolutely nothing?
Is the phone powered on? If so, just boot into TWRP via your rom or GooManager and perform a backup. Transfer that zip to a computer. If the phone is currently powered off, I'm afraid I know of no way to get it powered on unless you disassemble it. Maybe someone else knows a way?

Well, I can power it on and off...but the power button is very sensitive, even touching near the side will cause it to stick. If you press it the screen will constantly turn on and off, and sometimes the power menu will keep showing up.
I did a twrp backup to my external SD. Is there anything else I need to do so the new phone recognizes it?
Thanks!!!

Nah, just like @dmonleo says, root/unlock and you're good. Mine was like that recently, oddly enough doing the following helped. Try this. Might work, might not.

I actually received my 2nd refurb today from Verizon due to the same issue. The first 6 months of owning the phone, I had the power button sensitivity issue where I won't even need to push it to turn on/off the screen. Now 8 months later, the exact same thing is happening. Now I'm just wondering if I can just flash the stock image and send it back rooted/unlocked.

Yups, my first G2x was experiencing major reboots so I did a factory reset via vol down + power. didn't help lol. Didn't want to wait for an OTA update to fix the issue so I opt to exchange it and my current one now works like it should

I believe it pops up the stock recovery menu and goes into verbose mode while the phone is doing a factory reset. The stock recovery menu is useless since you can't actually select anything.

Vol. Down and Power gives me a screen that says "S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading..." And it never does anything. I had gotten a boot loop (hadn't even considered rooting yet) so I pulled the battery and booted up, I guess my finger had been on volume down. Still does that, and it never changes. Just stays like that. If I pull the battery, I get a boot loop again. What the hell D: Should I call up customer care?
It will force the phone to shut down. I did it couple times when my lock screen froze.
Simply holding power will force the phone to shut down.
Power and volume down format on stock or recovery if nvflashed
I don't think home is necessary or used at all.

Can't get into hboot / recovery / fastboot

So, I thought I knew what I was doing, but apparently not.
I tried flashing XYLON.
Now, the phone gets stuck on the boot animation. I've been trying to get it to work for the last 12 hours. It either gets stuck on the boot animation, or on the "Android is updating" screen. I can't even get into the hboot to boot into recovery.
Can anyone recommend a course of action to bring my phone back to life?

Hold down power until lights flash 7-10 times. Simulates a battery pull. Then push volume down and press and hold power button for 4-5 seconds, then release power while still holding volume down.. should go to bootloader. Sounds like your not timing it correctly

I've tried that.I kept it for an hour, let it go as far ahead as it would. ADB does not see it.
I agree, if you cant get Into bootloader its a timing issue. Try holding the power buttons until the capacitive buttons blink 7 times or so, when the screen goes black let go of power and press and hold only volume until the bootloader comes up. This way is almost impossible to miss.

RUU doesn't work. I can't get RUU to detect my phone. It doesn't boot up. It's stuck at the boot logo. And even if I leave it connected to ruu while i'm trying to reboot, or trying to get into hboot, it still doesn't detect my phone.

Well, I've already pulled my phone apart once to replace my broken screen. Which is why I'm suspecting it could be a hardware problem. Somehow. *sigh*
And I'm in. Finally.
I let the phone's battery drain completely. I pulled apart the phone, and pressed down on the volume + power pins/buttons directly. And I got into the boot loader.
I'm currently restoring the backup of the rooted stock rom I always keep on my phone storage.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and support.

So my situation is similar but my htc inc s is brand new from ebay china seller ( I live in Greece), is s-on, never messed up with, never rooted all factory. It worked great for few days and after the first OTA update I cant get into hboot, adb doesn't see the phone, always the updating symbol on screen.Tried battery pull, volume down + power in all the possible timing and combinations but yet nothing! Also I tried battery pull, volume up + power it vibrates 3 times orange lid is on and black screen (on the forums is said that this is diagnostic menu). So I think maybe this phone is a refurb and not new since the answer from HTC global support (after sending my IMEI and S/N) is that this phone is for Indonesian market and that its warranty expired year ago! Can you help me in some way guys...

[Q] Phone is frozen, Nova Problem?

Good morning everyone...
Hope all is well..
My cousin's S3 is unrooted. Yesterday he said it froze up on him... No buttons work, however, if you take the battery out and put it back in, the phone will power back up, comes all the way on up to the home screen, but nothing works, no buttons, no reaction from touching the screen or anything.
Verizon is blaming it on Nova.
I know better, Nova is flawless in my opinion.
Anyone experienced this problem? know of any fixes?

There may be an option in recovery to get to download mode, from there he can Odin back to stock.
Buttons not working doesn't sound like a problem a rom can cause. Did it get wet, fall? Did it start to update and it was interrupted? Curious.

Stock recovery should be able to perform a factory reset. Try that and if it doesn't work read up on Odin to go back completely to stock. If that fails you are likely looking at hardware failure. My guess is the factory reset will fix it for you.
I'd try to go into stock recovery by pressing power, home and volume up buttons....wipe davlick cache

Need help..phone won't boot up or recovery

Guys my phone was acting up. I tried to boot into recovery, and it wouldn't go. Splash screen came up and had recovery booting in upper left hand, than it just vibrated and kept doing just that. I pulled battery and put it back in and automatically vibrated. Now it just keeps doing that. I just wanted to clear cache and now it's doing this!
Every time I put my battery back in, it wants to automatically boot into recovery. But than just keeps vibrating.
EDIT: it booted into recovery and went back to its cycle. I think it has to do with my screwed up power button. Not sure what to do?!?
I had the same issue.

I was able to turn the phone on after taking the power button out by sticking a pin in the hole and pushing down on the button within the hole.
This was also how I diagnosed it was my power button for sure. I could just flick the button in the hole without paying down and the screen would shut off.
I was told this is a hassle to fix because it could be a short on the power cable. I'm just sticking with my phone like this for now

Help! Phone in loop rebooting

Hi guys,
I need your help, once again. This afternoon my phone fell on the ground, not from a big height, but it did. As I picked it up it was still working, but I couldn't pick up a phone call I was receiving, so I switched it off. Since then, it's in constant reboot. I tried to pull the battery, but as soon as I put it back in, the loop starts again, without even pushing the power button.
Unfortunately, when I pulled the battery I realized some had craved in, from a previous spill. Not much at all, in fact I was surprised to see it there, but as a fact there was.
I tried to access recovery mod, but with no success.
Thoughts?
Get into download mode and go back to stock.
Could be a problem inside the phone. But you should try going into download mode and go back to stock by using the one click back to stock tool.

No success. As soon as I pop the battery in it starts the loop, so basically I have no time to press volume and then plug the cable in.
If I plug the cable, press volume, and then pop battery in, it goes into a different "battery loop", but still loop.
I can't believe it got damaged for three drops of water...

Try this different method to get into download mode.
Take everything out of the phone (microSD, Battery, and SIM card).
Then hold both volume button up and down and THEN connect it to the cable.
Keep holding the volume buttons and then put the battery in.
It may be hard so you should flip to the back side of the phone and do tht. By doing tht, it will automatically go into download mode.
If that doesnt work it could be a battery problem or the phone is broken :/

Unfortunately I can't really afford it, but now it's hard to go back to a dumb phone. At the same time I'm pissed at how fragile these things are..
Sadly i have nothing to add to this except i have this exact same problem happening to me right now. Now This is the second phone ive ever rooted so you know I'm a newb their. So Can someone shoot me in the direction of stock tar files and what Odin to use.
I believe that is what i need to do yes?
use Odin to (IDK) inject root access with some other programs needed to use custom roms backups etc, also this is doe using a specific file as this is the part of the process where most phones are bricked?
So sorry but for those following this thread I have searched but IDK the best way to go as they change and i want the latest. As when i first rooted this phone I first tried Superoneclick as it was said to be so easy. Well SOC froze on step 3 i think and never finished once so i ended up doing it with Odin which is the way i did it with my SG3 (for some reason way easier to use maybe more devs??) So i am trying ti pimp my mothers phone LOL She is in her 60s but she knows what shes doing lol. Anyway she hated her phone and i told her all she had to do was root it and load a new ROM and your phone will look and act newer. (wanting to save mom money too) This is my situation.
If you read all that i am asking what Odin version i need or better where to get it. Same with the flash file. IDK if any ICS or JB rooted flash files are made or if its better to use stock 2.3.6 (i think) whichever way results in easiest upgrading and how it should be done. I thank you a lot. I am sorry for the thread hijack but i thought it would be better one post here instead another thread (i hope to have found it from you or on my own before that) like i said i search but i cant find i know its their i found it before so idk.
I do know to thank you again and sorry again for the hijack
