[Q] Rooted Skyrocket with faulty screen needs to be sent to AT&T - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi guys, here is the story. I have a rooted Skyrocket running CM9. Yesterday morning, the screen just went black. Can't see a thing. I can still receive calls, the phone is functional. Went to the AT&T store, they called their warranty department, and it was decided I'd be sent a refurbished Skyrocket. I have to send my old one in. I'm worried about my warranty being voided since I am rooted. Is this a valid concern? Will AT&T being able to determine if I am rooted with the screen not being functional? Is there a program I can use on my computer to view my screen so I can unroot my phone? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hold the vol- and power button to put the phone into download mode and wait luke 30 seconds then press vol+ to get into the actual download mode then use odin to go back to stock.

The screen doesn't work then you have nothing to worry about. I sent in a rooted SR that was stuck on Samsung logo and couldn't get into download mode and never had an issue.

I used to work for at&t and can tell you that we don't care if the phone is rooted

They just want their phone back. Plain and simple. It's not the firmware, is the hardware they want back.

Adb reboot download then Odin stock.

Screen out!

My screen just went out. Everything us black. It rings so its alive though. Question is that since I flashed coredroid on it should I try for a warranty replacement? I know the warranty is void but I just got this phone a week ago as a replacement for the original phone. Can they charge me once they get it back and figure out it was customized?

If you pull the battery, then try to go into hboot does anything happens?

Screen is dead. Pulled the battery. Nothing. Tried to get into recovery.black screen. funny thing is it will ring when you call it. It also gets texts and email notifications. Just can't read them! Lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I doubt they would check. Especially if you got it from att, they will just replace it as its within the 30day window. Since only the screen is dead you could try and getting it back to stock with the ace hack kit if you wanted to try that

What I realized from Captivate's forums some time back:
AT&T would replace it, and send it to Samsung. And IF Sansungs checks and realizes foul play, u would be slapped a $600 bill from AT&T.
Not sure if the same holds good here too.

[Q]experiencing random shutoffs.

Hello I'm recently experiencing random shut offs and the only way to reboot is to take out my batteries and put them back in. I'm thinking this is a hardware problem and I'm thinking of requesting a replacement from Att. I did install a custom room and its rooted. Will Att care if I return it like it is now or doI need to return everything to the stock default? How would I go about doing that? Thanks.

first, if you send your phone to ATT and is S-OFF with a custom rom on it they will say that you screw it....rooting your phone voids its warranty. So, you should go back to stock and leave it in the same condition as out of the box. Use this,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208507
Or, you can use the Ace Hack Kit running the return to stock option.
Second, please next time before opening a new thread do some research and search, because this problems have been address many times in this forums. Hope it helps...
Its the battery I had the same problem I bought a new one and its works perfectly.

I would try a battery calibrator app; not sure how great of a job they do, however its worth a try. I have seen people recommend them after flashing Rom. You should first chg. 100% before running the app.

Help! [FIXED!!!]

So today i was using my Skyrocket which was running Cm9 Alpha 2a. Everything was fine and then i put it in my pocket. i take it out and the lock screen is frozen. I then reboot the phone like ive done before, but this time it got to the second Samsung logo and then shut off and kept vibrating. i've gotten into download mode but it shuts off. Anything that i can do to return to stock?
UPDATE:
So I decided to take a chance and visit the AT&T device support center near me. I "forgot" to mention that my phone was rooted and using a custom rom. She came back, laughed and then told me I shouldn't be rooting my phone. She told me she would return my phone to stock. About 10 minutes later I had my phone up and running. I lost root and all of mms but it saved me some money. So my advice; if you're still under warranty,go to a Device support center if you believe you're bricked. More then likely they will love to help you.
If one plugs into computer in dl mode will it stay on

No it just shuts off.

Hmmm jtag that's all she wrote unless your battery is low leave it off charge it for an hr then try

How

I took it to a At&t device support center since it was under warranty. She managed to boot into my phone and saw it was running CM9 and said she'll return it back to stock. And said if happened again to go to back to her and she'll give me a new one

They'll do that? I thought that if they saw your phone had root/custom stuff that they'd give it right back and say the phone is out of warranty because of it

Agreed. All she did was Odin back a stock tar however.
As a side note was this "she" hot? Attractive female tech geeks are a real turn on... just sayin
Honestly idk what she did to get it to turn on. i swear i tried everything, except the Jig because i didnt have one. But yeah she was hot, she had some junk in her trunk. people still say that right? right?
Yeah I'm going to go under the assumption that the odds are much greater that I WON'T find someone who also mods their phone and thus will need to ODIN before I head to the store. I'm still having some battery issues and I want to get a replacement but I know that if they take one look at my phone they'll be able to tell in about 2 seconds that I'm not on stock.

If you can Odin yourself, then you should. Back up contacts and anything else because they will most likely erase everything

Screen turns black

Hey, guys. I've been having an issue for quite some time where my screen turns completely back and my phone freezes up. The only way to fix this is to do a live battery pull. It happens at least once a day. Not rooted. Running official ICS ROM. Can anyone help? I appreciate it.

was it like that b4 the update
you can do a factory reset too see if that helps but you will lose all your apps you have install and your settings, back them up first.
if its still the same looks like warranty repair
By chance, does this happen during a call or right after?
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
What apps have you opened prior to the black screen

Sounds like sleep of death or whatever it's called, tho I didn't have it for ages. I'd agree with the factory reset to see if the issue is resolved.

Your warranty isn't void. This looks like a hard brick and if you send it in along with a message like "it just shut down on me on today" then they will replace it

The warrany says it is void if iI tried to install any unofficial software on it, but as it doesn't even light up ,the zip I installed turned out to be a swap support enabler for a certain device, i think they won't even notice it. Will I get a free replacement for the phone, the motherboard or will I have to pay for a new motherboard?

Depends on the warranty. What I meant is they won't notice, so yeah just go in and act like you have no idea why it just stopped working.

Once again, it depends on the warranty and they might make you pay a deductible. However, as long as its not water damaged, then they should grant you whatever the warranty covers.
IMO, I don't see how it could fail if it won't boot up, but if you want some confidence in doing this, I once read a post on xda a while back about how a user went in and got a replacement even though when it booted up the boot animation was a modificated HTC quietly brillliant bootanimation and said "quietly rooted android" where he proceeded to act like he had no idea what that meant when questioned about it

I don't think you should get your phone replaced for free by tricking the service centre guys. It was your fault for being careless and flashing a wrong zip.
Well, as its a hard brick, I don't think there will be any method to fix...(maybe there..but don't know )

Trust me... more than enough people do it. And they actually have to replace it... because they have no proof it was ever rooted
(Definition of hard brick is pretty much no way to fix it)
