Wow.
Remove the battery, press and hold the power button for a few seconds, replace the battery, plug into A/C. Anything? If no, try another charger.

Your warranty isn't void. This looks like a hard brick and if you send it in along with a message like "it just shut down on me on today" then they will replace it

The warrany says it is void if iI tried to install any unofficial software on it, but as it doesn't even light up ,the zip I installed turned out to be a swap support enabler for a certain device, i think they won't even notice it. Will I get a free replacement for the phone, the motherboard or will I have to pay for a new motherboard?

Depends on the warranty. What I meant is they won't notice, so yeah just go in and act like you have no idea why it just stopped working.

Once again, it depends on the warranty and they might make you pay a deductible. However, as long as its not water damaged, then they should grant you whatever the warranty covers.
IMO, I don't see how it could fail if it won't boot up, but if you want some confidence in doing this, I once read a post on xda a while back about how a user went in and got a replacement even though when it booted up the boot animation was a modificated HTC quietly brillliant bootanimation and said "quietly rooted android" where he proceeded to act like he had no idea what that meant when questioned about it

I don't think you should get your phone replaced for free by tricking the service centre guys. It was your fault for being careless and flashing a wrong zip.
Well, as its a hard brick, I don't think there will be any method to fix...(maybe there..but don't know )

Trust me... more than enough people do it. And they actually have to replace it... because they have no proof it was ever rooted

I dropped my phone and the screen stopped working. The touch screen part still works and I can unlock the phone since it is easy to guess where it is on the screen.
I received my insurance replacement today, but want to reset the broken phone before sending it back. I don't want them to say I voided my warranty since it is unrooted and running a custom ROM.
Any clues on how I can do this since I cannot see the screen?
Thanks.
It doesnt matter if your stock or not if your replacing the phone under your insurance....it only matters when your claiming under warranty....and warranty doesnt cover water damages, broken screens, lost or stolen phones, etc....thats when your insurance becomes handy...

Hey guys,
As the title suggests, I hard bricked my phone. I was flashing the Sky Ice Cream ROM and its associated update in CWM, and then I flashed the Sky Kernel by faux immediately after. When I went to reset the phone, it never turned back on. I tried all the combinations of button pressing and taking out the microsd card, sim card, and battery while plugging it into the computer. Nothing worked so far. I was wondering if you guys had any more suggestions before I go down to the AT&T store so I can try to exchange it.
On a related note, would a USB jig get the phone into download mode?
Damn. So pulling the battery doesn't do anything. And nothing happens when you plug USB into wall charger or computer? A USB jig may be your only hope. I guess just for giggles you could plug into computer and just see if Odin will recognise the phone but I seriously doubt it.

I really don't know if this will help, but when I rooted my phone, for some reason I could only get it into down load by holding ONLY the volume DOWN & power... it can't get worse than it is now. Give it a try.

If you really are hard bricked a jig won't get you into download mode. And if the key combo+insert USB isn't working then a jig isn't likely to work either.
But hey, might as well try. Make your own though, it's really easy. All you need are three 100k ohm resistors (cost = $.75), some electrical tape, and a micro usb cable you can cut up (some people claim to be able to do it without cutting up a cable but I couldn't make it work).
I hard bricked not too long ago, so I know how much it sucks. Good luck!
I just hard bricked my skyrocket

I was doing soft bricks left and right. It took simply one more flash to turn it into a hard brick. I didn't it out of sequence and i did it with goo.manager. I think one should stay away from automatic flashs. Do these things one step at a time. I think it flashed the particion and that's why it's hard brick.
But i don't understand, why can't i get any response from the phone, not even a vibrate etc.
What to do now with a hard brick phone?

I had the same issue. I pulled the battery out when it was in download mode. [Didn't odin or flash or anything] The phone would not turn back on. It showed in device manager as qhusb_dload or something. After a lot of research and trying everything I could, I sent it to mobiletechvideos and he was able to get it working again with a jtag. Had to suffer with an old iPhone for a week but got my skyrocket back and was flashed stock. The phone hard bricked on me again flashing a rom a couple days later. I ended up buying a broken skyrocket and swapping out the mainboard and has worked great ever since.
From my understanding [ and I could be wrong] but just flashing a rom through recovery won't hard brick your phone because I don't believe it touches the boot area. I believe my issues were from some sort of hardware issue as opposed to software.

Does this sound fixable? or is there no way to know for sure without having the device. He's selling for $75 obo, i think if i could get it for 50 it would be a good deal
I'm not extremely tech savvy but I'm sure it's fixable. We got plenty of helpful people here that are willing to take their time to help(i hope). Don't get me wrong but 50 bucks is a darn good price for this device. You should also consider asking about the physical condition of the phone. Best of luck if you decide to buy!

Ya, like he said, I think it will work for you, as I bricked my phone once (it even couldn't boot to download mode, googled around hopelessly and I just riskily tried odin (try to hold buttons to download mode) and magically, odin still recognized it and then, with 2 times one-click KJ6 (to have bootloader), it was on (I think you just keep patient and w a little hope and carefulness, everything will be ok )
Yep. Same as above for me. It didn't even look like my phone was booting into download mode, the screen was just black. I tried over and over with my phone plugged in, and odin finally detected it and I was able to fix it.

I'd go for it. This device seams to be pretty hard to permanent brick. Odin seems to save me from any issues.

Even if it's hard bricked it would be worth it... JTAG repair runs around $40 to $50 dollars or you can do what I did and perform the unbrickable mod...
So today i was using my Skyrocket which was running Cm9 Alpha 2a. Everything was fine and then i put it in my pocket. i take it out and the lock screen is frozen. I then reboot the phone like ive done before, but this time it got to the second Samsung logo and then shut off and kept vibrating. i've gotten into download mode but it shuts off. Anything that i can do to return to stock?
UPDATE:
So I decided to take a chance and visit the AT&T device support center near me. I "forgot" to mention that my phone was rooted and using a custom rom. She came back, laughed and then told me I shouldn't be rooting my phone. She told me she would return my phone to stock. About 10 minutes later I had my phone up and running. I lost root and all of mms but it saved me some money. So my advice; if you're still under warranty,go to a Device support center if you believe you're bricked. More then likely they will love to help you.
If one plugs into computer in dl mode will it stay on

Honestly idk what she did to get it to turn on. i swear i tried everything, except the Jig because i didnt have one. But yeah she was hot, she had some junk in her trunk. people still say that right? right?
Yeah I'm going to go under the assumption that the odds are much greater that I WON'T find someone who also mods their phone and thus will need to ODIN before I head to the store. I'm still having some battery issues and I want to get a replacement but I know that if they take one look at my phone they'll be able to tell in about 2 seconds that I'm not on stock.

Using the program here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835791
I tried to unlock my bootloader. Everything seemed to go fine until the program said the phone was rebooting.
The display went dark as if rebooting but never came back on. Since that moment I can't get the phone to power up at all. I can't get into recovery or download mode. The screen doesn't seem to even try to come on. The phone acts as if it has no battery installed even though the battery is there.
Anyone have any suggestions or do I have a legit brick?

Could be a major detail that some might overlook. That'd for sure do it. I got rid of my OG few weeks ago n I'm still stock so I wouldn't know this, but doesn't the process only take like 10 seconds if that? The actual flashing that's taking place. So it'd have to be quite the odds to lose juice in the middle of flashing. But wouldn't it be charging if its plugged in usb? I hope that my man who posted this gets it powered back up. Would be a major bummer otherwise.

Yes I have tried it without the battery. Right now I'm letting it sit without any battery or power to it to allow all components to discharge. I'll try it again in a couple of minutes.

Just to make sure you read and followed all steps right? This one seemed crucial
**** IF YOU HAVE ANY PROGRAMS THAT SYNC WITH YOUR PHONE THEY NEED TO BE UNINSTALLED OR NOT RUNNING BECAUSE THEY CAN CAUSE BRICKS, Pdanet, easytether, droid explorer, kies, etc., etc., on down the line. I repeat if you have a program on your computer that syncs with your phone, it is NOT COOL TO HAVE THAT RUNNING! ****
Just trying to narrow down what the hell could cause the device not to power back up, also how long did you leave the device plugged before disconnecting or pulling the battery. Did oden stop responding or say anything other then rebooting ?

Or instead of paying shipping plus not having a phone for a week or so, you could file an insurance claim... Haha. Last I checked Asurion was still giving new phones due to lack of refurbs.
I had to run out quickly earlier to get a new sim for my Thunderbolt so I can have a phone to use in the meantime. The sim I had for it didn't work.
Some good suggestions. Thanks everyone. I'll have to ponder my options few as they are.

I had this happen on an HTC phone one-time. No joke, but to fix it, I think it ended up holding down power + volume down or up and then put the battery in. I tried a bunch of combinations like that until it booted. Same thing when taking the battery out. Does the red light show when the phone is plugged in?
