I dropped my phone and the screen stopped working. The touch screen part still works and I can unlock the phone since it is easy to guess where it is on the screen.
I received my insurance replacement today, but want to reset the broken phone before sending it back. I don't want them to say I voided my warranty since it is unrooted and running a custom ROM.
Any clues on how I can do this since I cannot see the screen?
Thanks.
It doesnt matter if your stock or not if your replacing the phone under your insurance....it only matters when your claiming under warranty....and warranty doesnt cover water damages, broken screens, lost or stolen phones, etc....thats when your insurance becomes handy...

So today i was using my Skyrocket which was running Cm9 Alpha 2a. Everything was fine and then i put it in my pocket. i take it out and the lock screen is frozen. I then reboot the phone like ive done before, but this time it got to the second Samsung logo and then shut off and kept vibrating. i've gotten into download mode but it shuts off. Anything that i can do to return to stock?
UPDATE:
So I decided to take a chance and visit the AT&T device support center near me. I "forgot" to mention that my phone was rooted and using a custom rom. She came back, laughed and then told me I shouldn't be rooting my phone. She told me she would return my phone to stock. About 10 minutes later I had my phone up and running. I lost root and all of mms but it saved me some money. So my advice; if you're still under warranty,go to a Device support center if you believe you're bricked. More then likely they will love to help you.
If one plugs into computer in dl mode will it stay on

No it just shuts off.

I took it to a At&t device support center since it was under warranty. She managed to boot into my phone and saw it was running CM9 and said she'll return it back to stock. And said if happened again to go to back to her and she'll give me a new one

They'll do that? I thought that if they saw your phone had root/custom stuff that they'd give it right back and say the phone is out of warranty because of it

Agreed. All she did was Odin back a stock tar however.
As a side note was this "she" hot? Attractive female tech geeks are a real turn on... just sayin
Honestly idk what she did to get it to turn on. i swear i tried everything, except the Jig because i didnt have one. But yeah she was hot, she had some junk in her trunk. people still say that right? right?
Yeah I'm going to go under the assumption that the odds are much greater that I WON'T find someone who also mods their phone and thus will need to ODIN before I head to the store. I'm still having some battery issues and I want to get a replacement but I know that if they take one look at my phone they'll be able to tell in about 2 seconds that I'm not on stock.

Let me guess, menu and back button in unresponsive, right? My sister's phone suffered that. Samsung service center said the touch panel needs to be replaced.

Have you tried flashing it with amother firmware? I suggest you should bring it to the service center so they can take a look. By tge looks of it, it may be a harware problem.

It's definitley a hardware fault. Just to make sure, bring it to the service center to have it checked. Yours have the same symptom as my sister's phone.

This had happened with my previous phone - moto milestone. Replaced screen twice, and the problem happened again. Sold it off and bought my i9003.
I think it is due to electrostatic charge building up on your body that affects the electronics. That is my (unproven, unscientific) theory.
I'd recommended you get it fixed and immediately exchange it at your dealership for another phone. Peace of mind that way.

You are charging when happens? I had the same isse, with a faulty/fake/cheap AC charger.
try to reupdating your phone with odin
I think I may have bricked my phone. I was trying to download a game but it said I was out of room. I decided to delete some music to free some space. I opened Fx and deleted some of my music and my phone turned off. Now I can't get it to respond by holding down the power button. I've tried 'adb devices' and it won't list my phone and Device Manager says "QHUSB_DLOAD." I have a custom recovery and am running TrickDroid... anyone have any ideas or am I screwed?
You cannot brick a device with deleting music.
Did your battery run out of juice? Do you have CWM recovery?
Because CWM with dead battery is bad news for some.

That happened to me I tried everything I could think of to get it to turn back on but no good. :/

Mine happened in the exact way I was trying to delete a file while at the same time downloading one
I can't get into anything at all, including recovery or fastboot. I'm not sure why it happened like this but it's really frustrating.
Any chance I can return it to T-Mobile? Do you think they could even check that I unlocked my phone?
I returned it to them without any problems. So I'm sure you could too

It's been a month. So I think I would of heard from then by now

I just want to say that it is possible for a phone to just die. Entering QHUSB_DLOAD spontaneously is bad news and I would think it's some kind of hardware/software fault. Your best bet is try to exchange it at t-mobile, and if they won't take it warranty it to HTC.
I didn't tell tmobile I was rooted because I don't think it had anything to do with it. I just told them what I was doing( deleting files) and that it just turned off and wouldn't turn on. They walked me through their steps to try to fix it. After a while they warranty swap it

Were you within 30days of getting the phone or did you have warranty on it? Or did t-mobile just take it back no questions asked?

I bought it the day it was released. I took it to the same store I bought it from. The lady tried to turn it on and couldn't, then plugged it in and saw the LED wouldn't turn on. It was near closing and she didn't seem too interested in continuing to troubleshoot so she sent typed a few things in her computer and told me I would get a replacement on Friday. I just need to put the defective phone in the box the new one came in and send it back.
I do have insurance on the phone and was glad I didn't need to use it. Hopefully there are no issues going forward. I'm not sure if I'm going to hack it again... Jelly Bean is tempting though...
I've had this same problem also was using trickdroid rom
Is there any way around warranty exchanging it. I don't want to lose info on my phone or trust it to a random employee.
If your led light doesn't turn on I'm pretty sure there's no way to get your stuff back. They will send you a completely new phone. It's what T-Mobile did for me anyway

Wow.
Remove the battery, press and hold the power button for a few seconds, replace the battery, plug into A/C. Anything? If no, try another charger.

Your warranty isn't void. This looks like a hard brick and if you send it in along with a message like "it just shut down on me on today" then they will replace it

The warrany says it is void if iI tried to install any unofficial software on it, but as it doesn't even light up ,the zip I installed turned out to be a swap support enabler for a certain device, i think they won't even notice it. Will I get a free replacement for the phone, the motherboard or will I have to pay for a new motherboard?

Depends on the warranty. What I meant is they won't notice, so yeah just go in and act like you have no idea why it just stopped working.

Once again, it depends on the warranty and they might make you pay a deductible. However, as long as its not water damaged, then they should grant you whatever the warranty covers.
IMO, I don't see how it could fail if it won't boot up, but if you want some confidence in doing this, I once read a post on xda a while back about how a user went in and got a replacement even though when it booted up the boot animation was a modificated HTC quietly brillliant bootanimation and said "quietly rooted android" where he proceeded to act like he had no idea what that meant when questioned about it

I don't think you should get your phone replaced for free by tricking the service centre guys. It was your fault for being careless and flashing a wrong zip.
Well, as its a hard brick, I don't think there will be any method to fix...(maybe there..but don't know )

I have had no issues with my phone so far, but just recently I noticed if I have vibrate on Max it will buzz. Used to not do this and I have re flashed my rom and it still buzzes. I have taken off the back cover as well as the case to see if the vibration is coming from either of those which it does not seem to matter if it is on or off. If I turn the vibration down 1 notch, it obviously vibrates less and it does not buzz. If anything I think that it would be covered under the Samsung warranty, as is hardware failure if I determine that it is not software. Has anybody else had a similar problem? It's kind of annoying that I have to turn down the vibration. The phone is ssolid otherwise. Has anybody had experience with Samsung customer service and how willing are they to fix something like this if at all?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
Why go thru samsung? Call verizon and tell em its making a really bad vibration noise and they will next day air you a replacement. Or just tell em its randomly rebooting and you have done a factory reset already

The refurbs are visually okay so it wouldnt be dinged/scratched. The internals who knows what they do to "refurbish" them. My last refurb only has 1 issue, the back cover wont click in all the way on the corner so its not flush. Kind of annoying but I knew I would get use to it. If your refurb phone has a scratch or ding just call em up and have em send another, which they will.
Also if you replace your phone I would odin back to the G7 build and then take a ota. That way you wont have that stupid custom icon on boot. Also make sure you havent tripped ur flash counter, you can see that in download mode. If it is then search triangle away on the fourms (its free for xda members) and run it to reset the counter THEN odin to a stock image.
What do you mean I'll see it at the bootloade r? I didn't see anything there that indicated it had been tampered with
