[Q]experiencing random shutoffs. - HTC Inspire 4G

Hello I'm recently experiencing random shut offs and the only way to reboot is to take out my batteries and put them back in. I'm thinking this is a hardware problem and I'm thinking of requesting a replacement from Att. I did install a custom room and its rooted. Will Att care if I return it like it is now or doI need to return everything to the stock default? How would I go about doing that? Thanks.

first, if you send your phone to ATT and is S-OFF with a custom rom on it they will say that you screw it....rooting your phone voids its warranty. So, you should go back to stock and leave it in the same condition as out of the box. Use this,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208507
Or, you can use the Ace Hack Kit running the return to stock option.
Second, please next time before opening a new thread do some research and search, because this problems have been address many times in this forums. Hope it helps...

Its the battery I had the same problem I bought a new one and its works perfectly.

I would try a battery calibrator app; not sure how great of a job they do, however its worth a try. I have seen people recommend them after flashing Rom. You should first chg. 100% before running the app.

I do not know why it does this.....

I am having a little bit of an issue here. I don't know if anyone else is having these issues, but if anyone can help that would be great. Everytime I get a phone call, I answer it and it answers directly to speakerphone. I don't know if maybe I changed a setting without knowing or something I am confused hahaha. Again, any help is appreciated.

What rom and kernel are you using? It might be a combo of them.
I'm actually not rooted at all that's the odd part.

Same issue here. I called both verizon and htc... they gave me the same answer. It is a roll out issue. Apparently because its in phases... whatever. My first tbolt came down fine; this is a replacement for a broken power button and now nothing. but at least I still have free tether! HA HA fail/win you decide.
Drop down to 1X and then search for it. Once you find the update, switch back to 3G/4G to expedite the download. Worked on my girlfriend's Thunderbolt.

Yep! i was rooted up until yesterday. While rooted I checked for & successfully detected it. But I rejected. Did a full backup using TiB and ROMManager first then unrooted. Now that I am unrooted, I cannot detect the update anymore. Been trying for 24hrs.
Just going to give up and reroot using the rooted update.

dropping to 1X doesn't work for me. However, here's how you drop to 1X:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Then go to "Phone Info"
Scroll down and choose "CDMA Only" from the Drop Down. Note the setting before you change it so as to revert later on.
Good Luck and let us know if it works for you.

No ROOT

Through the years, I've led myself to more issues with my phone by rooting it and customizing it to my hearts content. Recently, I decided to go back to stock. I'm pretty fed up with this phone, rooted or not. What I want to know is how I can get rid of busybox. I installed root checker to make sure the phone was factory stock, but busybox remains. Any answers? Only one I've found involves root access.

This thread will get you bone stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111486
If it shows anything after that, then it either came on the phone, or it's picking up something on your SD card.
Hmmm, this is what I did originally. Why wasn't busybox removed? Couldn't be sd card, its been reformatted recently.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Does anyone know why busybox is not being removed? I've odined the stock rom, going from ed1 to ee4 twice now. When I run root checker, it still says that "busybox has been installed correctly".
Edit: when I say going from ed1, I mean I odined that, then did the ota to ee4

IMO I don't think it matters honestly, they're not gonna run root checker at the factory... all they want to see is that it powers on and works and there's no physical damage, if they see something glaringly obvious like a custom rom or the superuser app then yeah they'll ding you for it
as for removing it without root I wouldn't know, if you knew how to compile/recompile rom packages you could remove it from the Odin package then flash it.. also it's in the market, maybe try uninstalling it from there or under 'all' applications tab in applications settings

Lol.. don't worry about that. For one
. They flash at the factory. This is the 4th charge i have had. I send them in all he time to get new ones and I have never reverted to stock first. The one I sent in a few weeks ago was running gummygbe2.1 and before that humblecomb.
Before the charge I had the dinc and sent it in with cynogen and other roms frequently.
Being as you are sending it in stock... you will be fine dude.
Its a little known secret but verizon will swap your phone for any reason and they rarely even verify you sent the old one back. I ended up with 3 droid incredibles lol.

Lol alright, thanks. I really can't stand this thing. I have such bad luck with phones. Every phone I get is a piece. The Charge's data switch is horrible, constant freezes and black screens. And let's not forget the flash crash while using the camera with the flash.

I think if this phone had more ram it would be much much better but come on.. 328mb of ram? my gfs phone "droid incredible 2" has damn near 900mb of ram and that thing is indestructible.
But to answer your question with a question.. do you have the .pit file in, auto reboot and F. Reset time NOT checked with repartition checked?

Phone crash with camera flash

I've noticed that when I take a picture with my inspire 4g, with the flash turned on, the entire phone shuts down right away, but when it's turned into automatic, it works fine, has anyone else has this problem, or know of a solution?

You should try wiping everything and installing a custom Rom or a rooted stock Rom and see if problem persists, could be a software issue. There are plenty of stock rooted gb Roms buried a few pages back in dev forum.
Check my sig. Stock roms. There is a rooted gingerbread PD98img, stock. I think it's the 3rd one, iirc.
With the phone plugged into the charger take a pic with flash on and see if your phone resets. Could be a battery issue.

That would be my recommendation. If you knew someone with another inspire you could try their battery. Actually your battery should be under warranty. If your phone is stock looking then you could probably take it to an ATT store and let them check it out and get 1 for free. Or even a call to 611 ATT support might get you a new battery for free. Just tell them it won't hold a charge and the flash causes your phone to reboot and you tried a friends battery and it fixed the issue. ATT has very understanding customer support.
It definitely sounds like a battery issue. I had a very similar issue. My phone would shut off at random times, and one thing that caused it was the camera flash. I picked up a new HTC battery on eBay for like $14, and it runs like a dream! If you cant fork over the money for the HTC brand battery, there are lots of cheaper chinese batteries for like $2 a piece. They would be good to just test and see if the battery is the issue if you cant find a buddy that could let you use a battery for troubleshooting, before you buy an HTC battery.
Absolutely! the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. A new battery solved the issue. If you have a warranty/protection plan call up At&T and they'll take it from there.
Man, I love forums! I was just having this problem this week! I guess my brutal punishment to my battery over Winter break has cost me (I was running the phone down to 0% multiple times a day). Time to get a new battery.

Digging into the problem
I was going crazy with this problem! I wonder now what is the problem with the battery, because mine it seems like it keeps current like a good battery. Does anyoane has any "hardware-electrical" explanation?
Anyway, at least I have one solution and I am partially happy with it.

I'm assuming when you say it "keeps current" you have been using a current widget. The camera flash puts a heavy load on the battery. On an older battery, it may look like it's fine at idle or doing simple tasks, but it can no longer handle the tough tasks.

[Q] Just another restarting issue. Insight please?

Alright so I picked up a Sensation 6-7 months ago from my T-Mobile dealer. Ever since I picked it up, I took a break from the flashing/rooting scene.
In May/June, when the official ICS update was released, I installed it to see how it ran before I went full force into the rooting scene once again. Ever since I downloaded it, my phone will restart at random times. It's starting to become very frustrating especially when I use my phone for mostly business purposes. It ONLY started this AFTER I installed the official ICS update.
So onto the next step. What I've done soo far is as described
-tried different batteries
-formatted several SD cards, with no luck
-formatted the phone twice
-I always do hard resets at least twice a day
-done several tests on apparent rogue apps to see if there was a difference
Alright, so now I ask of my XDA family, obviously this has been a problem ever since the ICS update. I haven't done any rooting on this phone in case I DO happen to get it replaced since its still under warranty
The ultimate question is this, will rooting fix this issue FOR SURE or should I play the safe route and just get a replacement Sensation with it still being under the one year warranty? What would you guys do Im this situation? Any other suggestions to try before deciding one of these options? Don't wanna go through with the rooting if I just have to unroot it take it back to the T-Mo dealer days later.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

tried this ?
Thanks for the suggestion, but it wouldn't necessarily be a battery issue if it just started doing it once ICS was installed? Or could it have been a coincidence that it started rebooting when I did the update? Does the housing wear in after a certain time causing the battery connection to loosen?
Thanks.

I also use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622683 (third post down) as I was in the same boat as you. I ran out of idea's to why my Sensation was always rebooting no matter what I did with countless different ROM's, Kernels etc and found that this battery_fix solved all my problems. Not had 1 reboot since Hope this helps
So just a little update. Ever since I tried the credit card trick, my phone hasn't restarted once. Roughly 2 full days. Done several things that I did before that would easily make the phone restart. Opened many apps at one time, drained the battery down to 3 percent and still no restart.
I'll keep testing this method for the next couple days but so far it seems like its been a good work around. Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction ganeshp!
