Was there any other WM Phone that competed with the HD2? - General Questions and Answers

1ghz Proc, 400mb ram etc.
I always thought WM was actually a very good OS, its just the specs that the phones had couldn't match the OS's needs.
Imagine a WM with Dual Core 1ghz, 1gb ram and a great wvga screen, it would be great! No slow downs, no crashing, lots of multitasking.
WM could have been much more imo.
So was is there even a WM that has better specs then the HD2? Or was that the last one of its kind?

Before moving to a android phone I was looking for a phone similiar to hd2 because that was on tmobile. As far as I know that was the latest and greatest of wm. I too liked it very much.

That was the first thing I wondered when I got my first android phone. How great the hardware and screen would have been compared to the HTC 8525 I had used before. I think the HD2 was the most powerful US carrier subsidized WinMo phone. If there are any others I would think they would be European models. With WinMo each device has a license for the OS, bought by the OEM. For this reason it would be illegal to load WinMo on any current android devices, but it would be interesting.

Buy --> HTC HD2 or Motorola Droid or Nexus One or SE xperia X10?!?!

well..changing new phone soon~ and these r two giant monsters which i kept my eyes on it.
hd2, winmo 6.5, big screen, terrific snapdragon, and bla bla bla. well, i'm a diamond user so i've already getting used to WinMo. it attracts me because of its fabulous 4.3 screen and its processor. well, rumor says it can be upgraded to winmo 7 though.
droid, android 2.0, 16M colours and 3.7 screen, a lil higher resoloution compare with hd2 but lost in the side of inches, 0.6'. and heard that it's using a so called newer technology processor, Cortex A8. 550Mhz processor but the speed is almost same with the iphone. One big holding back is the Android which i'm not familiar at all. oh ya, the crystal talk attracts me too.
So, can somebody tell me the good and the bad between this two? XD kinda in dilemma though.
share ur information and comments here!

well guys, added another ANDROID phone in between choices now~
the NEXUS ONE. well, kinda appealing to me..=)
really kinda bored with WinMo as HD2 is using wm6.5 which i'm using now in diamond too. the only attractive thing is the super duper big screen, while going off to android, i'm a little skeptical as i really never ever hold an android-based phone.
ok~ sony Erricson X10~ another rumor-said amazing android phone~ a very high resolution-screened phone and high megapixel. but, wonder it can be upgrade to eclair or not...
hard choices..>.<

billy.
Stay with HTC!!
I would choose Leo or Rhodium
this two articles about the Motorola Milestone (Droid) might help you in your decision:
http://smartphoneblogging.com/2009/12/review-motorola-milestone-droid-android-2-0/
http://smartphoneblogging.com/2009/12/review-motorola-milestone-droid-hardware-impressions/
I have written both reviews, and especially the android 2.0 review should give you a good impression of what android offers on the Motorola Droid.
I wa using windows mobile devices since the mda magician, and switched to android (htc hero - i wrote a 5 part review series about the switch to android: http://smartphoneblogging.com/tag/htc-hero/) and didn't regret it. Android is really a great os, and if you get an htc android device you have xda devs support too, so you could also consider getting an htc hero or wait for the nextgen htc devices. I wouldn't get an HD2 at this point, because wm just isn't competitive the way it is right now, and nobody knows if wm7 will change anything.
I'm sure the Android OS is great but I believe it's some what restricting in allowing the user to go above and beyond the typical customizing.
If both are supported by xda, then that variable can be excluded.
But the variable that has everyone curious is the fact that WM7 is coming and the HD2 is in the lineup of devices that get a free upgrade to what might some are anticipating is Microsoft last chance in keeping there 8% market shares alive.
This might be an apple and oranges like comparison which typically means one of two things:
1) very easy choice
2) very hard choice
I would go to the HD2 world of things. Keep in mind with the fact that this device being fresh on the market simply means patience is needed before everything gets ironed out by the fantastic chefs here in this xda community.
Good Luck with it all.....
Lot could depend on your carrier & location. Even if you buy unlocked, it may not have 3G like the HD2 in the States right now...
I'm crossing over to the Nexus ONE!

Would you consider adding the X10 to this list?
I am considering all the above phones too, but my preferance for now is the X10.
It would save me starting what would basically be a replica of your post......
could anyone layout in terms of usage as well? i'm an engineer who basically deals with attachments from email (ms excel, word, powerpoint, pdf, etc) - maybe a bit of editing would be a plus =)
HD2 looks nice with the big screen + integration with microsoft, kinda lean me over to it but supposedly there must be 3rd party apps that can go with android, is there? how bout iphone?
love the part on phone tweaking too...so, any suggestion guys?
thanks!
-phone noob-
sneasel.. depends on wat u need actually.. n i dont really know whether android has those 3rd party or not as i'm winmoer XD but seems like hd2 suits u though.. =)
yup!
...and im officially a HD2 user! ;D
Dont go for any wm devices
look man ill put it straight. windows mobile have no sense of ownership of there own brand. They are lazy bunch of ppl out to make profits out of ****ty operating systems. I would recommend you to go with android operated systems cuz they are so much better, refined and have a sense of ownership not of what they create n you can see that on how well there operating systems look and operate. PERIOD
HTC systems are great but they are a waste when they're with windows mobile.
hurmm...from the looks of it, you are quite right, htc do have a great system...on android, i've never used one, so dont know anything bout it...since i got HD2 on my hand, hoping cud put in android to try em...
well...is like they say, what suits one, that will be the best~

LG running Windows Phone 7 Now what to buy ??

Just saw this Video.
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_handset_running_windows_phone_7_caught_in_the_wild-news-1477.php
The specs are really awesome, 1GB of RAM!!!
Also winmo & looks pretty slick, I was thiking of getting a android phone end of this year. But with this coming up I am not sure what to do. When are they going to come up with phones that can boot multiple OS system. (could have tried palm pre OS too )
The only other phone I heard coming up which would have better specs than this is the HTC scorpion.

Wait until it's time to upgrade, then ask again.
It makes zero sense to think about this now. A lot will change until the end of the year (lots of Android phones coming out and LG will not be the only company making WP7 devices).

And here is an HD 2 running WP 7. http://www.winmo.nl/windows-phone-7-series-draait-op-de-htc-hd2/
There are no phones currently out with WP 7, M$ is just testing chassis requirements . It seems the base requirement is going to be a 1 Ghz processor. By the time WP 7 is officially released in 3Q 2010, believe me there will be a bunch of phones from HTC, LG, and others loaded with or upgradable to WP7S.

That page you linked to is unlikely to be legit, there is no confirmation that the HD2 is able to run Windows Phone 7. In addition, I'm not sure they're going to offer upgrades, because phones like the Toshiba TG02 and K01 are launching with 6.5.3 with no indication of an upgrade.
i think
that hd2 will be your best mobile

The site is legit, it is the Dutch Engaget or Boy Genius Report, whether the pics are legit or not, who knows, but all the US rumor sites are picking up on them and the general concensus is that the HD 2 has the hardware to be upgradable
http://www.redmondpie.com/htc-hd2-to-get-windows-mobile-7-upgrade-9140128/
Yep, the HD2 specs will be able to handle WM7.
I completely agree that the specs meet the requirements, but the question is whether it will happen (either due to the efforts of HTC or the community here at XDA).
I don't mean to **** in your cheerios or anything. But that site says IF that phone is the RUMORED LG Apollo then it will probably have 1gig ram etc. All that article says for sure is that it's a WM7 phone. I won't hold my breath.
B4 winmo 7 came out, the choice was too obvious, get Android (unless you want break the promises you made to yourself and get an IPHONE). Now my contract finishes beginning of Q3, and I was thinking of getting HTC desire. Now back to confusion, LG 1GB vs HTC desire 512Mb, Android with 20,000 apps Vs Microsoft WiMo. Hopefully we will get more info about winmo 7 soon.
Motorola XT720 Motoroi.
That's what I'm going to buy as my next phone
Bye HD2...

One main thing I was looking forward to in my new phone is high speed processor, 1Ghz. Motoroi is slow too I already have Xperia.

Not really. The HD2 is a wonderful phone for people who prefer Windows Mobile, which is infinitely more versatile than Android IMHO.
Don't make comments like that, as if your words are based on a general consensus.
OT, the Vibrant is essentially the Samsung Galaxy S. It has a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 and is has one of the fastest GPUs on an Android phone.
There are issues with the build quality, since it's plastic and a little glass, and the design looks reminiscent of an iPhone (actually a lot like the iPhone), and there is no flash on the camera.
There is also the issue of Samsung having a bad reputation for updates and fixes, and in my opinion TouchWiz UI is utter rubbish.
However, if you buy the Vibrant you can install an alternate launcher, and the thing is certainly capable of long video playback times on battery and playing and recording 720p HD video, and outputting it to your TV, so go for it.

I said versatile, and you're being vague, what does "doesn't even come close to Android" mean? In terms of the stability and UI, I have to agree with you. Android has never rebooted or crashed on me or made me do a soft reset as WM does.
However, tinkerers who are comfortable with the Windows OS and it's libraries, programming and dependencies instead of Android's Linux/Java kernel-engine build love it to death because of the sheer versatility. I love the idea of a little hand coded file server running on my WM phone to set up as a hotspot via WLAN.
It depends on who you are, basically. People who love simplicity and power will take Android, and people who love absolute power - no matter what the cost of usability and stability is - will take WM IMHO.
Ha no look this is pretty much seeing how many ppl know about the Vibrant cause I am trying to find out more or just make it better known. The Vibrant apparently is better screen quality as the hd2 but is android definitely check it out plus 16gb memory..slim and all touch. I wanted to know more bout it but ended up explainin more than anythin

What is the best phone to buy NOW or till the end of YEAR??

Hello all.
I what to buy a new phone, and I want the best. But I don't know what to chose and need some help.
I have one HD2 (Super phone for me) and I always used Windows Mobile, but recently I try'd Android on my HD2 and I must say I'm realy impressed with it.
But now comes Windows Phone 7, and for what I read, i'm not impressed at all with it, maybe in 1 year from now Windows / becames usable for me (Flashalolic).
So my question is what is the best phone I can buy now or in the next 1 or 2 month?
Thanks for any help.
if you already have hd2 there is no reason to change phones. for me its the best. you can benefit fromwm world and from android world... if you wamt a good querty slider phone you could go for dezire Z or milestone 2 both are premium phones. desite z only has 800mhz snapdragon but its the 2nd generation of snapdragons. it consumes alot less energy and still is fast. but since your asking me shure its 1 year since hd2 came out. but its still an amazing phone. wouldnt swith it for any other phone. then again i only have it for a week
You are right, HD2 is one amazing phone and I only switch for another one that is as good as my HD2.
It seems that since the release of HD2, there is no other "super phone" around to beet the HD2 as "The Best One of all time"
hardware wise, the desire HD. new second gen snapdragon chipset + 768mb ram makes it just a killer. then it has srs sound and dolby mobile and all this.. its the ultimate phone right now i think.
but its new, and the community is still not that large as the one of the hd2. and community is, what a phone makes a super phone.
in the end, the hd2 IS the best phone till now, and will be till phone manufacturers finally realize that they need to go a step further with the hardware.
im not upgrading to a phone wich got almost the same hardware as my hd2...
You are absolutly right, and the Desire HD is one excelent phone right now, but I think that it's not mutch better that the HD2. It has better hardware and a new OS, but still is almoust one HD2 with little upgrades.
As stated many times before, there is no such "best phone"
What is best to me may not be for you.
Said that I agree with the comments above regarding Leo, same or even better specs than new devices and the chance to boot WM/Android and soon WP7
I won´t really make an upgrade till something really amazing comes up...
to me the samsung fascinate is the best right now, it got flash and an awesome video capturing capability, while the G2 is good, but their video taking capability need some serious fine tuning.
I'm talking more in terms of Hardware, and not the OS.
Since the HD2, there is no phone much better then the HD2 in terms of hardware.
That is what I want, I phone better then the HD2 in Harware.

the samsung galaxy S got a better processor.
the DHD got much more RAM, and a better processor/chipset too.
the QSD8255 chipset of the DHD is almost as twice as good as the QSD8250 from our hd2... so hardware side, the DHD is the absolutely best phone right now.
as much as i know, the graphic performance is a bit better on the humminbird processor of the galaxy S... but its not that much (BTW, the hummingbird is the same processor as the A4 in apples iPhone 4 and iPad)
like i said, if u want the best hardware, go for the DHD, if u want the most open (with still awsome hardware) device, get the HD2.

[Q] What is the best platform to upgrade to Android?

Considering to buy a used WM6.x model for the android upgrade. Which cooked rom is the most complete at this point of time?

Do you mean which WM phone is running Android the best? I'd say definitely the HD2 (Leo), as its hardware is more than ideal for running it and the popularity of the device has given it a lot of developmental attention. Just about everything on the Android ports is working as it should.
However, if the HD2 is out of your price range, ports for the older devices such as the HTC Touch Pro are more or less complete.
With all of these (barring the Leo) it's important to recognise that the Android ports will never run as smoothly as WM does on the phones, nor as smoothly as Android does on phones which were designed to run it. For the same price as an old-ish WM phone you should consider a second-hand Android phone. Things like the G1 are going for barely anything these days and in my opinion they provide a much better Android experience than a Diamond or something similar.
was thinking of hunting down a used WM6.5 with at least a 1000mhz processor. Any recommendations is appreciated. Just hoping the model is as popular as the TyTN II in terms of development attention.
