The specs are really awesome, 1GB of RAM!!!
Also winmo & looks pretty slick, I was thiking of getting a android phone end of this year. But with this coming up I am not sure what to do. When are they going to come up with phones that can boot multiple OS system. (could have tried palm pre OS too )
The only other phone I heard coming up which would have better specs than this is the HTC scorpion.

Wait until it's time to upgrade, then ask again.
It makes zero sense to think about this now. A lot will change until the end of the year (lots of Android phones coming out and LG will not be the only company making WP7 devices).

And here is an HD 2 running WP 7. http://www.winmo.nl/windows-phone-7-series-draait-op-de-htc-hd2/
There are no phones currently out with WP 7, M$ is just testing chassis requirements . It seems the base requirement is going to be a 1 Ghz processor. By the time WP 7 is officially released in 3Q 2010, believe me there will be a bunch of phones from HTC, LG, and others loaded with or upgradable to WP7S.

That page you linked to is unlikely to be legit, there is no confirmation that the HD2 is able to run Windows Phone 7. In addition, I'm not sure they're going to offer upgrades, because phones like the Toshiba TG02 and K01 are launching with 6.5.3 with no indication of an upgrade.

The site is legit, it is the Dutch Engaget or Boy Genius Report, whether the pics are legit or not, who knows, but all the US rumor sites are picking up on them and the general concensus is that the HD 2 has the hardware to be upgradable
http://www.redmondpie.com/htc-hd2-to-get-windows-mobile-7-upgrade-9140128/
Yep, the HD2 specs will be able to handle WM7.
I completely agree that the specs meet the requirements, but the question is whether it will happen (either due to the efforts of HTC or the community here at XDA).
I don't mean to **** in your cheerios or anything. But that site says IF that phone is the RUMORED LG Apollo then it will probably have 1gig ram etc. All that article says for sure is that it's a WM7 phone. I won't hold my breath.
B4 winmo 7 came out, the choice was too obvious, get Android (unless you want break the promises you made to yourself and get an IPHONE). Now my contract finishes beginning of Q3, and I was thinking of getting HTC desire. Now back to confusion, LG 1GB vs HTC desire 512Mb, Android with 20,000 apps Vs Microsoft WiMo. Hopefully we will get more info about winmo 7 soon.
Motorola XT720 Motoroi.
That's what I'm going to buy as my next phone
Bye HD2...

Dear Experts,
I have a question regarding the 2 models HTC Touch Pro 2 & NOKIA N97
What will be the best mobile between the above 2 options taking in consideration that i don't care about the nature of the operating system, however what i care about is the business use, stability, robustness & the most important is that it can sync with my outlook contacts, calendar and other office documents.
Awaiting for your reply ASAP

Touch Pro 2 definitely
You shouldn't even compare!.
Touch Pro 2 is an enterprise device where as N series is in the Entertainment segment.
Dear Friends,
Thanks for your advice, and I will be waiting for the official release in order to buy it.
Last but not least about HTC, the company used to produce a new model with some new features or enhancements every few months which will effect the existing model or models.
Do you consider that HTC TP2 will sustain at least for 2 years and what about the rumor of the HTC touch pro 3

I am in the midst of the same decision , you say you don't care about the OS, but I think that that is the entire basis of the decision. Symbian or Windows Mobile. In it' s original pre-release specs the N97 would blow the TP II ( also pre-release specs ) away, but as it gets closer to release , Nokia is really stepping down the specs.
N97 cpu -434Mhz TP II- 528Mhz
N97 Ram-128 Mb TP II- 288 Mb
N97 Internal storage 32Gb TP II 512 Mb
I think it all comes down to which OS you think you can get along with the most.
I fear the advice where will be as biased as if you find a nokiaDeveloper forum and ask there
people who don't pref touch pro 2 would not be likely to spend that much time in this forum

You answered your own question there mate.
I used to have an N80, so I know the N-Series are good. But my friend has an N96 and to be honest, I was dissapointed when I played with it.
I predict, as Denco has said, that the N97 won't be all that is hyped up to be and that the specs might be a bit exaggerated at the moment.
Go for the TP2. It will have an official WM6.5 ROM released for it in October and it's power and features are that of what other PocketPC manufacturers are going to be trying to match for the next year or so...

More than agree
Go to a Volvo dealer and ask wich is better between Ford and Volvo...
NOKIA N97
No questions asked. This coming from a die hard fan of htc phones. Current TP owner. WinMo is awesome but is not and will not be a good OS for some time.
Respectfully
I would never think on changing WM for Symbian or any other, at least by now...perhaps in the future Android could be a good option...
There will always be a newer model avail every year or so. If you hold off on buying because of that you'll spend your life waiting for the next model. I say go with the TP2 for one simple reason......HTC!
Second the TP2 as the hot device out now...check out the excitement over in the Rhodium forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=488
I think you should go for neither, either wait for the Palm Pre if they can release it anytime soon or the new iphone i would assume both are about a month or so away. If you cant wait then go for the N97 for the simple fact that Nokia innovate and progress with their products, where as HTC create one product then put limitations on the hardware and then unlock these limitations and then sell the same product as new product. Pretty much almost all the new features on the TP2 derive from software upgrades and not hardware upgrades.
The N97 does actually give u more hardware for your money and with the advent of the Ovi Store (once its up and running properly) you will more than likely be able to pick up software to fulfill all your needs.
I would personally wait for another manufacturer to release an android phone or a windows mobile phone and go for that instead. Check out the Samsung i7500 or some of the upcoming LG phones.
Maybe too many htc fanboys here to give an unbiased opinion.
The symbian operating system will be totally limited to what it will allow you to do, there is very little room for modding.... really it's just tweaking, Nokia for sure has prevented access to the system files with newer Nseries phones, so there won't really be a whole lot of that....
Blows me away seeing how much can be done with Windows Mobile as far as changing the functionality of the phone....
But the N97 is a sweet phone, and I do plan to own one!

Comparing these stats is meaningless. Diferent O/Ss will require diferent compiled exe's and diferent processors run diferent architecture which will also compile as diferent size exe's. Also, you cannot directly compare one clock speed with another unless they are the same manufacturer and based on the same architecture.
The only way to compare across such diferent devices would be in every day use i.e. open a word document, edit it and save it (see how laggy it is/isn't) or show a video and see how well it shows etc...
If you want outlook syncing then nothing that im aware of beats WinMob but, what would you expect from an O/S thats by Microsoft for a MS product? I can't comment on the Nokia syncing, never used one.
edit: HTC's internal ram has always sucked (as have many WinMob devices) instead, relying on expansion SD/Mini-SD. If you need such great storage, the best way I know of at the moment is a 16gig Omnia with a 16gig card in it (total 32gig).
imho...
Office integration on Symbian is much better these days. Though you may need to upgrade the Office software included to get fuller functioning.
One thing that still annoys me on Symbian, is lack of support for Outlook Catagories. I just don't understand why they don't just add it...
If you like to play and tweak OS etc. the go HTC.
If you like Social Networking stuff, Go Nokia. they are really making a big push on services support in this area. Good widgets for Home Screen etc.
If you want a decent camera/video recording go Nokia.
If you like high res screen, for HTC.
On a similar rant. I just don't understand why HTC can't just put decent camera hardware on thier devices...
Also, on the warranty side, Nokia are excellent (at least in the UK). You get 2 years. Any trouble, just pop into your local Nokia Repair Shop. They also tend to be geared towards actually getting repairs done for a 'reasonable' cost if it's not a warranty issue, with Parts being readily available.
This was not the case with HTC (a year or 2 back). May have improved now.
There is a grid by Steve Litchfield (allaboutsymbian, so slightly biased...) which I find quite fun.
It's at : http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/grid.htm
Me, I think I'm pinning hopes on the TG01 at the moment. But getting frustrated that I don't see a real release date/price. Might be tempted by the Omnia HD or N97.

Same here, thats why my current is an Omnia I900 and its, not needed, replacement which arrives Friday is a Acer M900 - both 5meg cameras.
Dont hold your breath on the TG01. They just announced the good news, its processor is being upgraded to 1.3ghz, the bad news is that its not even going into Sampling until the end of the year. Phones reaching the shelves were scheduled for "sometime early next year" ... dont forget the inevitable delays
Hard to pick as I'm pretty unimpressed by both the N97 and the TP2 and wouldn't even think of getting either. If Windows Mobile, then the new Toshi phones - particularly the announced one with the capacitive creen - OR the Samsung Omnia HD (but that's Symbian).
If you ABSOLUTELY must to pick from between these two models, get the TP2. Nevertheless, to get a decent multimedia / camera phone, I also recommend getting a cheap, second-hand Nokia N95. Or, if you want gaming, an iPhone 3G or an iPod Touch 2G. The best of the two (three) worlds.

I read about that, but I thought it meant that there would 'also' be a faster version coming later with current release plans for June/July. Did not think it was 'instead of'. What's Toshiba playing at? If it's true, then I'm guessing they are still having some problems with it and decided to postpone...
Can someone point to something definate regarding the delay ?

Despite the difference of CPU or some other hardware... WM is much better than SB(Symbian, SB-->means "****" in chinese ^o^ )
I was looking around today for a reason to stay with windows with all of the newer hotter Android phones coming out, and came across quite a bit of info on WM7. I cant verify any of this as "factual", however there are many confirmed comments that lend to the validity of this info. Below are a few pics of the WM6.5 vs. WM7 screenshots.
Apparently this was supposed to be all slated for this year but I think we all know MS takes their time doing anything. Look how long we had to live w/ vista before we got windows7...
I have been using it [windows 7] for several mos, and have to say that they are redeeming themselves now. So if the lighter, faster, less hardware abusive windows7 is any indication of the new direction for WM7, then I think it will keep some of us here for a while.
Combine the better OS w/ the new mobile technologies like snapdragon, tegra, etc, and I think that we might be on to something.
The photos and other info can be seen @ http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/windows-mobile-7-exclusive-screenshots-and-analysis
I feel like if that's WM7 it's a fail. I hope it's not. And what makes me think it's a fake is why have Battery and volume bars on the bottom. If i were batterey and signal than I'd beleive it. And why are there 2 different styles of those bottom bars.
It looks like nothing new but a erskinned WM6.5. I say it's a different buildof 6.5. Mebe 6.5.2?
Android > Windows for the moment.... Graphically Android owns, windows will have to put out a spectacular GUI for me to buy another WM equipped phone.
Just give me WM6.5.1 to play with for now; WM7 is just to far out in the future

+1. I will stick with my TD2 for now. Android port should be coming soon to it. My next phone though will definitly be an Android specific phone. Especially if WM7 is a fail.
I am stuck right now
The 3 things that have been keeping me from Android are
1. Carrier availability (cant get 3g on ATT w/ Tmo devices)
2. Past resolution (most droids are HVGA)
3. Processor speed (waiting for 1Ghz)
I would love to have android if it would meet the things that I need. For the time being I am trying the current Raphael Android ports.
Maybe something will come out around xmas that I want. Hate to leave my network, but oh well.

Those things are coming soon. Well probably not to AT&T but WVGA 480x800 with 1Ghz and well android goodness. Just wait 3-6 months. Mebe even sooner. I'm waiting for a device that is nice (equivilant to the original Hero) with all the above mentioned.
Mebe look into the Acer Liquid. It is just like the neotouch but is supposed to run android. But rumor has it that it runs an Underclocked Snapdragon Processor. (800Mhz)
The Moto Droid is looking nice. Hopefully it will be open enough that maybe it will be added to the device base here (highly unlikely methinks).
I am loving the CM7 ROM for the Glacier and wouldn't mind keeping it for as long as I own this handset. As someone curious about the new Windows OS however, I was wondering if it's possible to create a version of the ROM for this phone. I noticed the HTC HD2 seems to be able to run Windows Mobile and Android just fine. Is it just a lucky fluke that it's hardware is compatible with both OS builds?
It is definitely possible for an WP7 ROM, but highly unlikely. The reason the HD2 got so much love is Because WinMo sucks arse cheeks. As a stock phone the MT4G is a great phone, but most of the people who frequent this site want the latest and greatest so that is why you see a lot of ROMs for android.
I can't speak for everyone on this site, IMO it won't happen.
The HD2 was also shipped with windows mobile to begin with, while maybe not the same versionI think it is frowned on a bit less than if you were to take a open device and put a closed os on it. That would be pretty much like buying computer parts real cheap putting the computer together and then stealing (pirating) a copy of windows 7 to put on the hdd, rather than buying the license properly.
So what I am saying I guess is it is not wither the hardware can handle it,which I see no reason it couldn't with driver tweaking. It is more the legality of it and that pirating is not allowed here!
I appreciate the reply. This is actually the first generation of Windows Mobile that even has me interested in taking it for a test drive. All of the previous versions reminded me of a poor version of the desktop OS.
My only interest in it s the gaming aspect, Android continuously disappointments me with the gaming options.
the only reason why HD2 is able to do WM7 and android is because, WM7 has the same type of architecture setup and the android is running off the SD card via Linux overlay. and honestly i used the HD2 for a bit for android and its a bit of a mess. they might come out with WM7 on MT4G but i dont think gaming will be any better on WM7.

Just wait until the PSP Androids take off...
No way MT4G will get windows rom.
The reason HD2 got Android and WP7 running because it is exactly the same phone as Evo and HD7 so porting was relatively easy. MT4G has different processor then any current WP7 phones and this processor is not supported by WP7.
I myself would be very interested in a windows phone port. just so I can change to WP7, watch some netflix, then switch back to android when I'm done.
I doubt it. U might have to pick up an HD2 if u want to dual boot Windows 7 and Android. U can find them for cheap on craigslist these days because most users who don't hack their phones, seemingly can't see the potential in HD2s. They are very good phones once u stray away from windows 6.5 IMO
I think the reason why the developers spend about 5 months trying to make the port to the HD2 was because one windows mobile is obsolete, second the fact that Microsoft and HTC were not going to update HD2 to WP7 because of Microsoft's lame excuse of the fact that the device had to many buttons BS! and lastly when the HD7 came out everyone was pissed to the fact that the HD7 was an exact replica (hardware) of the HD2's. I have WP7 on my HD2 it runs perfect with no bugs at all, but coming from android IMO is a bit boring OS as its not open source as android.
Now WP7 on the MT4G will never happen. I don't think developers such as Cotulla will try to spend months once again on trying to port WP7 to another device I think they were just trying to prove a point and they did

This is super true
I honestly had no idea of how much support exists for this device until my Uncle asked me to put Android on his...
I was like ... I don't think I could do that, unk..
But it was actually pretty easy, almost too easy. Makes me want to grab one for a cheap tinker toy to fit right nicely into the tiny gap between my MT4G and my NookColor.

I would agree partially. I have an HD2 as well as the MT4G. MDJs CM7 runs flawfless on the HD2! I will never flash any other rom for it unless he has updates. Its so smooth and snappy you would never believe the HD2 wasn't an Android device. The beauty of it is that, with MDJs CM7 rom, the HD2 battery life puts the MT4G to shame. 1-2ma battery drain on standby! Best backup phone ever!
You can get a home screen app on the market that "trys" to simulate a windows 7 fone but is lacking in features =\ BoL
Im using 3GS right now and will either upgrade to a WP or IP4/5, I am sick of Android feeling like its still in a beta stage and freezing, closing apps, lagging no matter what phone. Anyway back when I used the focus the UI was amazing! But it was missing features...IOS is great! Time for some new features though imo, has WP7 been upgraded to more features? And how long will those updates last for the current WP's? What in your opinion is the best WP? And ultimatly what do you think is better? Hopefully Apple announces what IOS5 will be like. I really like WP7 but it felt like it needed time to get more features and some Apps were not optimized properly(ebay) but wow! That os is like butter! If it keeps getting features I may have to go WP! Especially if IOS5 is the same old, But for now I guess I gotta stay IOS.
maybe you should wait until fall or september, then both iphone 4s and major updates for WP7 are released, that time you can make a better comparison.which phone to buy...
The Fall Update to WP is a pretty big one, and new hardware will come out with it so I'd wait. The OS as it is, is to me the best designed out there, and the features people have been aching for are almost all coming with Mango (the fall OS update). Its going to be pretty nice, but ultimately up to you what you like most.
you've already pointed out that ios is complete and mature, try a friends phone around christmas and see if wp7 updates are all they're claimed to be...
the iPhone/iOS really is matured. You know where the saying comes from "There is an app for that".
I am still missing a lot of apps I was using on the iPhone, which are not (yet) available for WP7. But I really like the look of feel of WP7.
Wait for Mango if you like simplified device working more or less without any trouble
and you don't miss some basics. The UI is consistent and very easy.
For more sophisticated and better equipped device look somwhere else.

IMO the UI on Wp7 blows iOS out of the water. It's simple yet still highly functional. I keep making my older and less technical users go to WP7 devices. They all seem to love it and I see them on their phones all the time - I'm sure their productivity is tanking lol.
Ignorance is Bliss, as they say.
But I'd wait until Mango and IP5 is our and make a more informed decision.
Right now WP7 can't hold a candle to iOS, but the update will be big. Unfortunately it's months off so you'll have to use a phone that has 30+% less functionality than your 3GS and many showstoppers (and lack of Apps) if you upgrade NOW.
I'd wait.
Wait for iPhone4S/5 and WP7 Mango update, and then decide. You might look into Samsung Galaxy SII as well, it's very fast. Maybe more device coming out with Dualcore/Quadcore that improves Android. WP7 is still in beta stage imho.
I've been using wp7 since October when I replaced my 3gs, and I've missed nothing so far.and that's been very honest, the thing is all I use to use on the iPhone was Facebook eBay satnav n a few more apps so the 300k appstore didn't matter to me. You've gotta think about the features and apps u need. Upgrading to wp7 guarantee u mango update regardless of the handset you choose.
Wp7 Focus
wp7 for sure, the metro UI is amazing.
I just bought a WP& phone, will post what i think of it, just hope the app market kicks off and MS add more functionality and that it becomes moddable

Functionality is more than coming:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084161
Marketplace is already pretty good considering dev's cant create certain apps yet (Mango SDK will have all the 1500+ API's available, many of which will be used to create these lacking apps).
If you are looking for heavy modification, it may not be the platform for you, but people will definitely be modding it. Just not the extent WM & Android users are probably used to.
I went with the iPhone4, Im still gonna wait and see how WP7 goes and see what Apple does with IOS5, then I can make my Dec with what I want, but Ive heard from a lot of news sources that WP7 is doing pretty bad in sales and that its really not catching on at all, hopefully it dosnt go the way of the Kin phones...
As some have already said, I would probably wait for the Mango update and iPhone 5 before making the decision. I got a WP7 and I really enjoy it, but I think to make a fair choice, you should wait to pick between the two.

They are doing it as quickly as possible. Its a major change at Nokia, it doesn't happen overnight. Nokia is planning for a late 2011 release of their first phone(s), and they are planning a whopping 12 devices (rumored so far) in 2012 running wp7 (including a dual core N8 version with a 12MP high optics camera). They will be using both qualcomm chips and SE dual core chips according to forbes.

There will also be some pretty nice second gen phones from Samsung, HTC, LG ect so people should have quite a few nice ones to choose from.

I am planning to buy hd7s should I buy now or wait for new devices with better hardware
Thanks in advance
I think it's a good time to buy a wp7, mango comming out (soon) And new hardware hmmmmm I think there will be some phones with a qwerty keyboard but thats it no big hardware upgrades
better wait
IMO, it is better to wait until mango comes out and some more phones with better hardware. Though WP7 is good enough, it is still yet to get so many features. Being Mango the biggest update, we need to see how much level , does it take the OS. And regarding hardware, all WP phones are just as per minimum hardware requirements by MS and no phone yet which makes you say WOW.
I own focus now and i do like it.
Currently my plan is to wait until Mango and possibly any new phones and take the call b/w a WP7 and iPhone 5.

Will it support 3G in India? Nokia has plans for WP7 in India. I will say wait and see what they have to offer.
It is good to wait...most probably the new mango device will be come out during september or october,by ZTE....if you want go for nokia, you may have to wait until end of this year...
I'm pretty sure new devices will have a big difference with current devices, don't ever buy the device now, because they still using qualcomm 1st gen 1ghz snapdragon processor.
Furthermore, new devices most probably will be equipped with front facing camera,Gyroscope, better processor, better camera, higher ram, better screen and etc...so it is good to wait since it is not too long from now.
Don't choose the way like me,feel regret to be the first adopter of WP7,software flaws can be fixed...but hardware never...think twice
You can always wait my friend, there'll be always new better hardware.
but now, (at least here in europe) WP7 is an epic fail, and they are cleaning the stocks of WP7 phones. I got mine operator free (LG) for 199€ some months ago, it was more than 400€ worth, some had something like 640€ price (maybe due the 16gb storage). I wanted the Trophy for 149€, but it was actually out of stock.
Maybe they got remplaced by some new Android Galaxys clones.
If you wait until mango, maybe the prices will rise again (althoug I don't think so)
I read somewere that the WP7 operating system doesn't support dual core.
If its right, than I think there won't be better hardware until WP8 or Windows 8
If you buy right now a tegra phone, maybe you'll regret it, because news are coming, with 3DS-like screens, higher res displays, Windows 8 based phones and on and on...
You'll wait forever.
The only thing to do, is what I did, get a WP7 as cheap as possible, and hope that mango will bring some new features, and that our phone will be W8 upgradable...
yea, somehow agree with you...buy the phone as cheap as possible...because you might just want to try out the whole new OS,but it does not means it works perfectly for you.
Remember,is buy the phone at a cheap price,not sign a f**king cheap contract,never sign a contract.
If you want something last long,I reckon samsung galaxy s 2,its product life at least 1 or 2 years.Just like galaxy s
don't wait
buy an android I was once a windows mobile guy, android is better and there is more device to pick from. Microsoft mess up big time with this one.
thanks
Thanks everyone for your replies I think it makes sense to wait till September
What Im doing is getting a new contract and getting S 2 then im going to sell it when nokia releases their wp7 device and buy it pay as you go. I make actully make money if my contract is cheap. However I like to change my device every few months.
Saved me from asking the same question. My contract has just run out and I have switched to a sim only deal. Still very happy with my Hd2.
I so badly wanted the HD7 bu have now decided to wait until I see what happens over next few months Instead of getting bogged down with a long contract now.
