[HARDWARE] Download mode - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Heavily inspired by this thread I noticed that there are two suspicious holes near the sdcard slot of the doubleshot (see attached image).
Plugging in RXD and GND from a TTL adapter while having the phone connected via usb I get
Code:
Jan 25 19:44:42 parsip kernel: [1240789.640065] usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 77

Looks promising. I will dig into this as soon as I can get some free time.

Very interesting, great find!

For what it's worth, just be careful not to get stuck on Download Mode = Hard Brick... my one hard brick was a Sensation stuck on download mode, which I had replaced via warranty.
--
Sent from my typewriter

Do you remember how you did the brick?

Flashed radio via bootloader... even though md5 sum on download checked out, file was still corrupt somehow, which placed phone on an eternal download mode.
--
sent from my typewriter

From what I recall, everything pointed to JTAG as the only possible cure

Do you still have the phone? I would like to attempt unbrikable mod on an htc device but I do not want to risk a working phone
EDIT: sorry I did not remember you said you had it replaced

I've got several htc devices, atm only a couple older models that could be risked, but in a month or two I might be interested in risking a mt4g or my mt4gs...

well what r u seeking to unbrickable mod? And how recent must the device be?

I would like to be able to boot from usb or sdcard but I haven't read enough to know if it is possible. I assume this will be heavily dependent on the chipset but not too much on the phone model, i.e. pyramid and doubleshot should behave in the same way. My post was on the lines "if you have got a device that you have to get rid of I can put some time on it and try to see if anything good pops out of my soldering iron".

That's entertaining, and a fun attitude. I got a chuckle out of that.
The Nook Color boots from SD first, then internal memory - making it virtually unbrickable.
Wonder what it would take to make that happen for this device?
I'm not sure what makes it that way on the Nook Color, but I do think it got documented in the Nook Color sub-forum here at XDA, at least in part.
To my knowledge the Nook Color is the only Android device that does that (maybe the new Nook Tablet, the NC replacement, but haven't looked into that one yet) - but with what you're learning about download mode and the quest a few others are on to find a way to S-OFF without the rev method we'll at least find out if it's possible or not.
If it is, that would be fantastic - i'd love to have a native linux install on the device itself and run a ROM from the sdcard when I wanted to (cart before the horse, I know).
I'm glad to see people running off in different directions with the low-level programming of the device itself, splitting the searches up is covering a lot of ground.

I don't understand what is happening here at all... What's download mode? What would the benefits be? Who would use this & why?

Download mode give you direct access to the phone's mobile partition which contains the boot.img, recovery.img, etc. just stuff like that. I have a Motorola Triumph which has an unlock bootloader (download mode), and it makes it near impossible to brick, and way easy to install a custom recovery. You don't even need to be rooted.

It's VERY likely that I'm totally offbase and don't understand exactly what you're referring to but I DO know that the Viewsonic GTablet will boot from the external microSD card if the ".zip" file is named "update.zip" and there is an empty folder in the root directory named "recovery". It's almost like when Windows senses a system disk on bootup but the GTab won't give you an option where you want to boot from. It just assumes (I suppose) that there is some problem accessing the internal card and/or your recovery program and allows you an opportunity to flash what you need to by writing it directly to the micoSD card. It responds a bit like an "HBoot" ".zip" & just launches it without user input. Now I have NO idea what differentiates the two methods but it sure seems to be hardware activated. It IS something tho that someone that TRUELY understands what calls the system is making might want to look into for something usable "android-wide". Just my 1/50th of a dollar.....

Any phone with either in-built mass storage support, or custom kernels or having required modules (for stock kernel).
I think you need to find and load the modules yourself before using the application.

I am expecting modules for DDLF2 rom.
Hello there. I'm on galaxy sl xwlf2 rom with custom kernel.
And I have the otg cable that would be really fun, if otg would work
looking forward to it
edit: on my phone there is no such folder like MODULES under system/lib
@ Samsung users:
1. Kernel must support mass storage mode.. Ask your kernel devs in your forum about it.
2. Some models of samsung does not have power to the usb bus, so even if custom kernel/modules are there, you cannot use OTG without powered USB hub.

Ya we have mass storage support by default. But we dont have USB OTG feature in our mobile. If samsung mobile is not able to supply power to external usb storage device then is this hardware limitation or software limitation???

But still there is no output from ur app. When I say that mount then its still saying that "no device found". How...???
I have attached log file for more reference.
Is it possible to get this working on the epic 4g touch (Sprint version of the Samsung galaxy s2)? I know the international version and other us carriers support it natively

Can u tell me exactly which samsung devices u have tried successfully??? Which kernel version they have??? I talked with one of our kernel developer. He told me that to work usb otg the phone must have that driver & supporting kernel. Phone with supporting usb mass storage is insufficient to work this app. You should mention this in OP.
Edit :-
For reference I have attached dmesg file. One is for when external power source is connected & another is for when external power source is not connected. Interesting thing is that in dmesg I found 'usb otg' word in last 2-3 lines of both dmesg file. But I dont understand its meaning.
Works perfectly
firstly i would like to thank the following making this app possible:
DooMLoRD - For the original idea and implementation.
shardul_seth - For creating this app.
thanks to you 2 users can enjoy using their external storage devices on their phones.
I am currently using this app on my galaxy note n7000 with criskelo 11.1 rom and speedmod k3-11 kernel. works perfectly fine. tested it on my fat32 32gb memory stick and no lag. also tested on my 1 tb external hdd and no lag there either. i cant say thanks enough. keep up the good work.

Hey vishal, your usb_storage module is failing.. Let some kernel dev on your phone model take a look and correct the module, or incorporate it in kernel itself..

[Q] Defy+ bootloder not loading - stuck in OMAP USB Boot Mode

My Defy+ phone seems to be stuck in the TI OMAP "USB BOOT Mode". I.e. plugging in the usb cable to a linux box I see the following system log when pressing the power button on the Defy+:
17:18:05 els-d93336 kernel: usb 3-2.2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 22
17:18:05 els-d93336 kernel: usb 3-2.2: not running at top speed; connect to a high speed hub
17:18:05 els-d93336 kernel: usb 3-2.2: New USB device found, idVendor=0451, idProduct=d00e
17:18:05 els-d93336 kernel: usb 3-2.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=33, Product=37, SerialNumber=0

17:18:08 els-d93336 kernel: usb 3-2.2: USB disconnect, address 22
The defy+ enumerates as a TI OMAP device and disconnects automatically about 3 seconds later.
I believe this means the actual defy+ bootloader does not even get started so I have no chance of flashing a new SBF image using the liux
Obviously, I am anable sbf_flash tool or the RSDLite tool under windows as the device is not recognized a a valid device.
Any ideas on how to get the defy+ unstuck and get the bootloader to load?
Thanks.

ALPS MT6517 (iPhone 5) USB Installation

Hi, I have an iPhone 5 clone which I cannot connect to my pc. (Win 7 64/32 bit) When I plugged it in, it detects as "Unknown Device" in USB controllers category in Device Manager. I've tried a bunch of MTK 65xx drivers, ADB drivers, Install from disk (.inf file), even tried Pda.Net but still can't install the usb drivers.
I've also tried to power it off then press Volume + then plugged it. (SD card removed, battery cannot remove because it's soldered) It detects as MTK USB Port but it never detects as MTK 65xx Preloader as to what I've searched.
I am so frustrated and I really really want to connect this to my pc so I can start flashing on it.
I hope you can help me with this guys.

Besides manually update the driver.
First, you have to disable the mandatory use of signed drivers in Windows.
Why? The driver you are trying to install (or update) is not signed and windows by default only allows the use of signed drivers.
Search a tutorial on "how to install an unsigned driver Windows 7"
I send you some, but I am the translator of google lol ..
I had a similar problem for the driver and the solution I gave you, solved my problem.
The best of luck, a big hug!
I managed to fix my problem yeasterday following br0adband advice in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62651329&postcount=1159 sorry I forgot to close my thread(if I can figure out how). Thanks for that helpfull tip though, I'll keep that in mind for later driver issues.

Looking for kernel module cdc_acm (ttyacm/ttyacm0)

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to get support for an USB CDC ACM device on my OnePlus 6 with OxygenOS 9.0.9.
If I plug in the USB device it is correctly detected but the driver is missing. (On my linux box, the kernel module cdc_acm is loaded and I can connect via the device /dev/ttyACM0).
I did not find an offered kernel which supports my goal. So I suspect such a kernel does not exist. Perhaps some kernel provider could add this support?
Or would it be possible to compile the module on my own? Any help or link welcome!
Thank you very much.
