Heavily inspired by this thread I noticed that there are two suspicious holes near the sdcard slot of the doubleshot (see attached image).
Plugging in RXD and GND from a TTL adapter while having the phone connected via usb I get
Code:
Jan 25 19:44:42 parsip kernel: [1240789.640065] usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 77

Looks promising. I will dig into this as soon as I can get some free time.

Very interesting, great find!
For what it's worth, just be careful not to get stuck on Download Mode = Hard Brick... my one hard brick was a Sensation stuck on download mode, which I had replaced via warranty.

Do you remember how you did the brick?
Flashed radio via bootloader... even though md5 sum on download checked out, file was still corrupt somehow, which placed phone on an eternal download mode.

From what I recall, everything pointed to JTAG as the only possible cure

Do you still have the phone? I would like to attempt unbrikable mod on an htc device but I do not want to risk a working phone
EDIT: sorry I did not remember you said you had it replaced

I've got several htc devices, atm only a couple older models that could be risked, but in a month or two I might be interested in risking a mt4g or my mt4gs...

well... let me know in case you will want to sacrifice one of those

I would like to be able to boot from usb or sdcard but I haven't read enough to know if it is possible. I assume this will be heavily dependent on the chipset but not too much on the phone model, i.e. pyramid and doubleshot should behave in the same way. My post was on the lines "if you have got a device that you have to get rid of I can put some time on it and try to see if anything good pops out of my soldering iron".

That's entertaining, and a fun attitude. I got a chuckle out of that.
The Nook Color boots from SD first, then internal memory - making it virtually unbrickable.
Wonder what it would take to make that happen for this device?
I'm not sure what makes it that way on the Nook Color, but I do think it got documented in the Nook Color sub-forum here at XDA, at least in part.
To my knowledge the Nook Color is the only Android device that does that (maybe the new Nook Tablet, the NC replacement, but haven't looked into that one yet) - but with what you're learning about download mode and the quest a few others are on to find a way to S-OFF without the rev method we'll at least find out if it's possible or not.
If it is, that would be fantastic - i'd love to have a native linux install on the device itself and run a ROM from the sdcard when I wanted to (cart before the horse, I know).
I'm glad to see people running off in different directions with the low-level programming of the device itself, splitting the searches up is covering a lot of ground.

I don't understand what is happening here at all... What's download mode? What would the benefits be? Who would use this & why?

Download mode give you direct access to the phone's mobile partition which contains the boot.img, recovery.img, etc. just stuff like that. I have a Motorola Triumph which has an unlock bootloader (download mode), and it makes it near impossible to brick, and way easy to install a custom recovery. You don't even need to be rooted.

It's VERY likely that I'm totally offbase and don't understand exactly what you're referring to but I DO know that the Viewsonic GTablet will boot from the external microSD card if the ".zip" file is named "update.zip" and there is an empty folder in the root directory named "recovery". It's almost like when Windows senses a system disk on bootup but the GTab won't give you an option where you want to boot from. It just assumes (I suppose) that there is some problem accessing the internal card and/or your recovery program and allows you an opportunity to flash what you need to by writing it directly to the micoSD card. It responds a bit like an "HBoot" ".zip" & just launches it without user input. Now I have NO idea what differentiates the two methods but it sure seems to be hardware activated. It IS something tho that someone that TRUELY understands what calls the system is making might want to look into for something usable "android-wide". Just my 1/50th of a dollar.....

Hi, I own a KingZone i8750+/Ativ S mtk6589 5.8" phablet (the hardware is the same as the Star i8750 and the Miz Z3). The stock rom is ok but I would like to be able to plug a flash drive to exchange data. Unfortunately the current kernel doesn't have USB OTG or (USB host) support.
I wonder if there is some kernel out there that can enable such useful feature. I remember I've seen on youtube someone that was able to plug a flash drive to his phone without any need of external power supply: that would be awesome.
Thank you
Mike
Hi, I have an iPhone 5 clone which I cannot connect to my pc. (Win 7 64/32 bit) When I plugged it in, it detects as "Unknown Device" in USB controllers category in Device Manager. I've tried a bunch of MTK 65xx drivers, ADB drivers, Install from disk (.inf file), even tried Pda.Net but still can't install the usb drivers.
I've also tried to power it off then press Volume + then plugged it. (SD card removed, battery cannot remove because it's soldered) It detects as MTK USB Port but it never detects as MTK 65xx Preloader as to what I've searched.
I am so frustrated and I really really want to connect this to my pc so I can start flashing on it.
I hope you can help me with this guys.

manufacturer: ALPS
CPU: ARM Cortex-A9

Hi
Im trying to connect easycap to my photon q 4G LTE xt897, and i have some problems. Nothing works and im feel totally stupid
Some details:
Sim mod
CM 12.1-20160319-NIGHTLY-xt897
Android version: 5.1.1
Kernel: 3.0.101-g1a2acd3
EasyCap with utv007 chipset.
EasyCap Viewer
And that does not work. EasyCap Viewer showing: No device attached.
Next i installed Usb Host Controller, and it shows:
Version number: 0.44
S3C USB Host driver NOT found!
Root hub is not present, USB Host mode not active or not available!
USB Host Diagnostics shows:
ANDROID API
Claims support: Yes
Classes found: Yes
Device detected: No
ROOTED API
Claims support: N/A
Device detected: N/A
KERNEL
Claims support: Yes
Device detected: No
I found this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/photon-q-4g-lte/development/cyanogenmod-12-1-photon-q-t3073781 and theres link to kernel. There is easycap in drivers/staging.
Now im stuck. Totally stuck, and dont know what to do next, to make this working...
Anyone, any advice?
