Yes, I went through this post. Here are my requirements in order
Good battery life
Future Updates
Camera
Application running stability
OS Stability
I dont want to spend much so Samsung Galaxy S2 or HTC Sensation is out of the picture. Spec wise I found the following
DS has 1GHz Snapdragon, O2X has 1GHz dual core Tegra 2
DS has 768MB RAM, O2X has 512MB RAM
DS fits my pocket perfectly, O2X is litle bigger
DS comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, O2X is pushing updates release further and further
DS looks fairly stable, O2X is buggy. Need a comparison of O2X with CM and DS stock ROM
What I am looking for is when Google releases Android 2.4 Ice cream Sandwich some time in Q4, I want to have it on my phone ASAP. If LG is taking so long to release GB updates I wonder how long will they take for Ice Cream Sandwich. I am a light user. Few calls, few messages, occasional gaming, occasional photography, occasional WiFi but a lot of music and apps. Which device do you think I should go for ? I am looking all this from Ice Cream Sandwich point of view. I dont want my phone to be obsolete by Q1 next year.

reading from your summary above, there appears to be no decision, I'd buy the Desire S, especially if I didn't already own one!

Yes. It looks good now. But in Q4, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming. I heard it comes with optimization for dual core and hardware acceleration. Desire S will fall behind then.

I had 3 O2Xs before I got so sick of them that I demanded a different phone. Got the DS instead.
Yeas, they're powerful, but my word the software is terrible!

That is what is preventing me from buying it. If only they had released the upgrade and it was better ! How does it look with latest CM ? On the other hand Sense 3.0 wont be completely supported on Desire S so it'l probably be last to get Ice Cream Sandwich.
if u have enough money,buy LG 2X.

I never hacked it due to it being dodgy.
So I have been reading the last 6 months about the supposed biggest update for Android ever = Ice Cream Sandwich. I have a few questions.
- What OS # will it be ? 4.0 ?
- What's approx release date ? This fall on the next Nexus device ?
- When will other current phones get Ice Cream ?
- Is it really going to be the mind blowing incredible update they it is ? Completely change Android radically with massive improvements and new ways of doing things ?
There was lots of hype last year before Gingerbread, saying it would be a big update, and change the look of the UI and be totally fresh. But to me its barely any different than Froyo.
Anything else ?
Sent from my EVO-3D waiting for Myn's ROM
wow, surprised that 71 people have viewed this thread, but none of them have a responded ?
I thought this site was for [H]ard Geeks only ? I am sure one of you knows something more in detail about the next big Android update ?
Ice Cream Sandwich will be Android 4.0.
It will bring a Honeycomb-style UI to ALL android devices - no more phone vs tablet OSes. This also means no more hardware buttons - they're going to be onscreen like Honeycomb.
The first 4.0 Device is expected to be the Nexus Prime, a most-likely Samsung phone with a 4.3ish" screen to be released in the fall of this year.
Some (possibly many) Honeycomb and Gingerbread devices will be upgraded to ICS.
That answer your question?
Most people are as clueless as you are. Not much info is known except it's supposed to be basically GB and HC merged for use on phones and the new Nexus one will be the first to start it off supposedly sometime towards the end of the year.

i hope that there won't be onscreen buttons, i hope there will be gestures..
swiping with two fingers down for home or something. so we dont loose any screen size for the buttons, on screen or not, they waste space on the screen
or maybe something like Zmooth in the market, where you got a small area to make gestures to simulate the buttons
i rly rly hope that they will implement something like this, and not just onscreen buttons..
So the Nexus-Prime will be the debut device for Android 4.0 Ice Cream.
If it is made by Samsung, curious how much better spec'd the Prime will be over the upcoming Galaxy S2 + ?
And I heard a rumor that Google wants to release this new Nexus earlier than the normal Christmas time, but try and compete with iPhone5 with an October launch ? Do you realistically see that happening ?

i definitely hope it will be released around the iphone5 time..
and hey, the nexus one was the better twin of the htc desire, the nexus S is the better twin of the galaxy S. why shouldnt the nexus prime be the better twin of the galaxy SII+?^^
I'm reading some stuff about ICS and i think that this release it will have the following specs optimized:
-Jit
-A new UI that fits on smartphones and tabblets,
-An optimized kernel
-A new way of interatcion with market and the other produtcts of google.
Will it support duel-core smartphones..? And if so, anyone knows how it will do it?
hope we'll get it soon
i wait it so long
One answer to all the questions you asked, no one knows
sent from my bolt
Google has not given any information about ICS. Guess they will hold an event to give all ins and outs just like they did with Honeycomb. Rumours are by the way that there are multiple ICS devices coming out at the same time in fall/winter. (LG, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony)
I hope that the on-screen buttons are not a design requirement for devices running ICS. It would be frustrating to not be able to get CM8 on my Tbolt.
I hadn't heard about the hardware buttons being gone, that's a shame...would it be the soft touch screened like I have on my DInc (which I wouldn't classify as hardware like say, on the Droid X) or just button screens drawn in the actual viewed screen?
So the Dual-core processor isn't a minimum hardware requirement .. thank god !
Hi there, i have few questions.
1. more theoretical, but anyway - do you think that android 4 would be able on desire s? official or custom?
2. do you think, that it would be possible to make somthing like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194058
but for desire s and volume button as shutter button?
3. What is by your opinion the biggest disadvantage of desire s?
going to buy tomorrow, hopefully first choise was optimus black, but desire s would be better, i thik
Desire S is 100 times better than optimus black. Android 4 (or 2.4) Ice-Cream Sandwich is more likely officially to come on DS than Optimus Black. Custom would be available ASAP, courtesy of CM7.
IDK about the shutter........
No disadvantages. It's perfect for me. Perfect size, unibody build, excellent ROMs.
One thing - the eMMC chip on HTC phones may cause bricking, due to a instant battery pull and re-insertion.
2. It's possible in CM7.
I hope that Ice Cream Sandwich will be opensource as Google promised. In this case people will port it to any of older devices. And Desire S too.
At the moment I have an HTC Desire and a Galaxy Nexus.
I love the OS on my Nexus and the extra bits on ICS, but I'm not fussed on the handset. Meanwhile I'm not that interested in Sense, but I love the Sensation as a handset.
What I want is raw ICS on my sensation. I want the ICS web browser and the recent tasks features of ICS on my Sensation.
The camera on my Sensation takes better photos and videos than my Nexus does, but my Nexus can take photos at once and take further photos wirthout any delay. Again, this would be great on the Sensation.
I intend to sell my Galaxy Nexus and stick with my Sensation. I was just wondering if anyone thinks any of the above is possible? Will we ever see a raw ICS ROM for the Sensation and will I get those features??

The port isn't finished, many things won't work correctly till we get ICS source from HTC, or maybe they release ICS early for Rezound or XE.
i just want to as if Samsung Galaxy Fit is capable of Ice Cream Sandwich operating system?

I was thinking about the same but is there any developer out there who might wanna use up sooooooo much of his time to port CM 9 to this device?
I doubt that....
I bet someone in the mini/ace/(insert phone here) department is already working on ICS for their device..ohhh the agony..someone call 'em devs..we're not making any progress here..

Decide for what? Ice Cream Sandwich is still not available for our device yet you're deciding to choose and what to use? lol. ICS far much better than Gingerbread as it's a combination of Honey Comb and Gingerbread in terms of performance and UI.
if you meant changes, mainly the UI which is kind of similar to Honey Comb but slightly different and ICS works in any devices that can run Gingerbread even on such a small screens smartphones. the ability to use front-facing camera as a lock screen and other stuffs like that. just google it if you are that interested about what's new on ICS

GingerBread is 2.3 and IceCream Sandwich is 4.0 so it's obvious that IceCream Sandwich is better.....
For the changelog, go to the link below.....

alright. just inform me if ICS is already available to our hand set. Thanks
I don't think anyone is going to do the port for our phone, FIT looks like its the ugly one on galaxy line lol.
in 4 years maybe
It may be still possible, look at the X8 and X10 Mini sub forums here on XDA, they are already having an ICS port. as well as the LG Optimus One, it's almost like the Galaxy Fit. We just don't have any devs available and one that would volunteer to work on a port for our device.
It's just really sad we only have a few developers working for our device, it's also sad some like Praytush have move to a new device as well so he won't be able to make ports and stuffs for us anymore (maybe ?)
