Heres what im thinking of:
Droid/Milestone
Xperia x10
Acer Liquid
HTC Legend
What do you guys think? Also no Nexus One please.
HTC Desire beats them all tbh
It's hard to give advice without you saying anything about what you want to do with it, what carrier you're on, etc.
For me, presently HTC's so far ahead with their phones, all of the other manufacturers are all but irrelevant. I'm glad they're out there doing their thing and all, but HTC is the only one doing it with the style and polish I'm looking for, especially over the last 6 months.
Also, if you're not planning on replacing firmware on your own, don't get a phone w/o 2.1 like Acer's Liquid. If you do want to root it and use custom ROMs, buy something where that's possible.
Well im on ATT in the US, I want it mostly for Music, Android (apps), Web browsing, Very Good Camera, Occasional Videos, and of course Calling.
Those are the things most important to me, also is it me or is the Desire pretty much a nexus one with HTC sense?
This is true that the Desire is pretty much a nexus one with HTC sense>
What's your issue with the Nexus One?
Anyone here come from a Vibrant or other Galaxy S device? If so, what are your thoughts? Would like to know how the screen and snapppiness is compared to the Vibrant. I would like to pick up a Sensation when it gets root so I can get custom ROMs on it (not the biggest fan of developer skins, I may just wait for Nexus 3 if it is made by HTC) and was just wondering how it stacks up to my current phone. Thank you!
I came from a Vibrant. I hadn't even been looking to upgrade but I did. The battery life is fat better for me. The build quality is better and 2.3 official rather 2.2. Oh and Sense is the ish!

I had a rooted vibrant with ffc mod. I picked up a sensation two days ago.
My opinion is sense is cumbersome. I replaced the launcher after the first day. I would call the overall feel of system response comparable. Like the galaxy this, at times becomes a bit laggy and slow to respond. The rear camera certainly takes better pictures. As far as videos, i find the 720 recording to be slightly better as well. I did a handful of 1080s over the 4th and thought, neat! and then changed it back to 720.
I think 6 months down the road after a few system updates, root and home brew roms this thing will feel like an entirely different beast.

I still think it'll come. HTC said the same thing about Sense 3.0 last year. Besides, the One V can run Sense 4...so can the Sensation.
"Considering that a phone like the Sensation (which features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage), can’t run Sense 4 smoothly, it’s better this way."
Wow, are you serious? CAN'T RUN SENSE 4.0 SMOOTHLY!? I call BS, the new One series has specs close to the Sensation and your telling me it cant run smoothly? smh. And i thought they said 4.0 was supposed to be lighter? da fuq.
thats why theres roms

**Update**
We've just received this written statement from HTC
"HTC Sense brings a variety of new software enhancements to HTC One, some of which utilize the latest hardware innovations, meaning not all functionality can be introduced to older HTC Devices. With that said, we are looking to bring a Sense 4 software update that includes as many of the enhancements as possible to a variety of our new devices."

its all for marketing purposes so you can buy the new phones
I remember them saying that Sense 3.5 would only be usable on dual core phones which was not true at all Had a Mytouch 4g running a Sense 3.5 rom with no bugs and great speed
plus its time consuming for them to update "old phones"
Plus, remember that the new camera features are a big part of Sense 4, which probably requires hardware that only the One series has (what they refer to as the "latest hardware innovations"). They would have to take that out before giving Sense 4 to our phones, which would take time away from the more important task of getting the One series ready for sale.
HTC never said themselves that the Sensation can't run it smoothly, that was just the website's assumption. It doesn't necessarily rule out us getting Sense 4 eventually, but I would not expect it to come anywhere near, and certainly not before, the release of the One series.

Yeah I remember that part, HTC said something about special imaging chip that allows to capture images during videos. I think that requires specific hardware.
Still they can upgrade software part of other things that dont depend on hardware, like new Sense launcher , themes etc.
Other option is that HTC probably knows that devs gonna port it anyways so they might as well let community to tinker with it
i don't htink so...it will come this summer or later but it will....
IMO
It will come with everything in 4.0 except the 25GB dropbox and new camera features.

Sensation specs close to the One? What have you been smoking? lol...it has much newer chipset technology, and will sh*t all over the Sensation crappy chipset....
the_scotsman, you just ninjad me...
Krait > Scorpion by far, just look at the Nenamark2 results:
HTC Sensation: ~44 FPS (avg, trying to eliminate custom roms).
HTC One S: 59.4 FPS limited by 60 FPS, i.e. this test does not utilize this chip's full power.

You're as excited as me to dump the Sensation for a One X, right?

As i saw on some videos on youtube. One V has 3.6 Sense, it looks the same as the 4.0, but there is no 3D effects in Sense launcher, that's the only thing i saw that is different than One S and X.
Let's start trolling on HTC like Desire users did

OMG I cant run sense 4.0 on my N95 or my samsung d500 or my sony tv nor does my iphone. do you hear my complian about that..No and i tell you why
personally couldnt care if my sensation is running sense 4.0 sense 3.0 or sense 2.1. what i want is a phone i can make calls on and send texts.. have a screen that doesnt have a green hint on it when it comes to take a picture..
companys make money by bring out new stuff on there new phones what i think HTC is doing wrong is not fixing the problems with there old phones before bringing out a new phone..
Im sure some smart Dev with bring out sense 4.0 oneday for the sensation but are you really going to bycot HTC for wanting to make money....
I have the opportunity to trade my Nexus S plus a difference with a month old HTC Sensation.
While I love the Nexus S in so many ways, I'm like a kid and the mirrage of a new toy is always appealing. Also dual core CPU, also bigger screen, also more RAM, also better camera, also the HTC design, which I personally like.
If I do I plan on rooting and flashing ICS. Is this easily achieved? I had a quick browse on the Sensation dev forum and while there were some ICS roms, development seemed rather timid.
What are your thoughts?
I would say go for it, flashing was easily achieved and loads of fun to
And bout the roms, there are plenty, also ICS ones.
I'm currently running Android Revolution HD + faux kernel, which is an ICS rom.
Its all working like a charm
How about the screen? I've read that although bigger, it's not got the same quality as that of the Nexus S. Do you own/have you owned a Nexus S? What are you basing your opinion on?
I'm not trying to be rude or anything I just want to be properly informed.
i might pick up one of those things soon (i'm feeling serious G.A.S!!!), so i just want to know if this phone will see a lot of roms, considering the camera chip... if you think it'll slow down the development significantly, please leave a reply and explain yourself, i'll be very grateful. i'm coming from a desire z, is there anything i have to take into further consideration before buying ? cheers
For sense roms.. no. For AOSP roms, it's possible. Maybe in AOSP roms the ImageSense chip will just be ignored/disabled. I don't see it as a huge hinderance though, just a camera hinderance.
Debateable question. Currently loads of older phones still haven't got fully working camera on asop roms. It will be a 'long' time before the one s has a fully functioning cm9. For the while the no sense roms are sweet. The only difference is the settings....and a few other bits.development will kick in.there are devs working on it. As for the one s...its a beautiful piece of phone. Dont be put off by your asop wish...I love cm...but be honest the no sense roms are great till it arrives. If not Lee Droid is coming soon..so tweaks ahoy..

It's not because i need an aosp rom, i'm more concerned about longterm-upgrade-ability. If HTC decides to not include the imagechip technology in newer iterations of sense, would it be left behind?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA
Well they just developed it... I don't see them already leaving it behind especially with as beautiful the pictures turn out with if. I used it through the weekend and I'm very impressed with the quality. It my be a bit before it gets worked into rom development, but I don't think they are gonna drop it any time soon
