[Q] TMOUS Sensation 4G in Europe

I am travelling to Europe soon and can't really find out if the Sensation will fully work there. I am getting it SIM unlocked through TMOUS, but I am unsure about the actual bands it supports. I know it will work for standard GSM calling since where I am going 900 MHz is standard, but what about data? Will I at least be able to get 3G? Searched hi and low and couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. Thanks.
Paul
same boat
I'm in the same boat here. I leave for Ireland in the beginning of September, and hope to bring my T-Mobile Sensation (factory unlocked also). If anyone has any insight to this it would be greatly appreciated. 3G is a must now a days.
Go to gsmarena and look for the bands of the HTC Sensation and compare it with the Tmobile Sen 4g
just got back from spain/ibiza after a two week vacation:
i had a sim that ONLY did phone/sms and a friend had a sim that did data...but he kept complaining about the speed, so i'm assuming the speeds are edge-like. again, this was in ibiza and our choice of sims was limited...
HTH
gsmarena for htc sensations
that was a good idea hytl, looks like the tmobile version has two more frequencies on the HSDPA but everything else is the same. So our phones should work fine with 3G.
US Version
General 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 - For Bell (Canada)
European Version
General 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
Anyone know why the T-Mobile version doesn't pick up AT&T's 3G?(here in America) from what I've read online AT&T use's 850 and 1900, and gsmarena says it the T-Mobile Sensation can pick up those frequencies, but I dont get any 3G. actually I dont even get edge, I can just make phone calls and text, no data whats so ever on AT&T's network. dont know if i should start a new thread, but its confusing the hell out of me. Could it be a software lock? its not rooted or anything.

[Q] HTC Sensation 4G in Germany with UMTS/HSPA *solved*

Hey guys,
I currently own a HTC HD2 in the EU version, without branding.
On my recent holiday in the U.S. I've used the AT & T provider. So unfortunately I had to use only the GSM frequency band as used in the U.S. for UMTS / HSPA other frequencies. UMTS supports my phone with the 900/2100MHz frequencies.
I want to buy me now the HTC Sensation. On the german website of HTC is the following:
HSPA / WCDMA:
Europe / Asia-Pacific RegionT-Mobile U.S.: 900/AWS/2100 MHz
Quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
As in Germany for UMTS / HSPA is the frequency band is used to 2100MHz, which therefore nothing to prevent. Furthermore, although there is "T-Mobile U.S.". Does that mean that I can use with this device in the U.S. with T-Mobile as the provider UMTS / HSPA? Finally, use the AWS frequency band, so a combination of 1700 and 2100 MHz.
That would be great if I could use it in Germany and the U.S. UMTS / HSPA.
Furthermore, there is also the HTC 4G Sensation, but apparently only from T-Mobile U.S.. The internet is not exactly find them if this would also work with UMTS / HSPA in Germany.
GSM Arena writes for the HTC Sensation following:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_sensation-3875.php
3G Network: HSDPA 900 / 2100
When HTC Sensation 4G:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_sensation_4g-3922.php
3G Network: HSDPA 900/1700/2100
HSDPA 850/1900 - For Bell (Canada)
Here it looks as if the Sensation (without 4G) only work in Germany or the EU. The Sensation 4G whereas in Germany and the USA (with T-Mobile U.S.), because they use the 1700MHz.
In this forum someone writes from Greece, that the HTC 4G Sensation in his work with 3G (UMTS / HSPA). Greece belongs to the EU and uses the 2100MHz frequency band.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14253980&postcount=13
As you can see, it is declared not entirely clear and I would now like to cover before buying, to avoid a bad buy.
Best regards

Sorry for may incorrect sentence constrcution. For some I used the google translator
Nobody any suggestions?
I am quite interested in this question, too~
There are some news
I asked HTC (Germany), but they could not answer directly. They let my question escalate. This means, that they want to test it. So I had to wait for some weeks ...
Some days ago, I recieved an answer
They wrote the following:
We have heard back from escalation team and was confirmed to us that all the frequencies have been given are supported by the device. So you should be fine.
This was not an complete answer, but the person with who I had written could just say this, what they tell him.
But I´m not sure, if that means, that the:
- HTC Sensation works fine with UMTS in Germany (of course) AND T-Mobile US (in USA)
or that the:
- HTC Sensation 4G works fine in Germany
Does anyone has meanwhile more information?
I examine the tech specs of the HTC Sensation XE and found out, that it does not support T-Mobile US (seen at the network section). I mean, it not written down, but it supports the "AWS" frequency band, which is support by T-Mobile US.
Its soo confusing
Didnt bother about that really, but i am using a Sensation 4G in Germany and it definately has HSPA, the website speed is very fast.
On the other hand it is a US Tmobile Sensation 4G, so i think it will use the 4G in the US as well.

That sounds great !
Are you sure, that it is HSPA? there must be a "H" at the notification bar. To be sure, you can see it in:
settings -> phone info -> network
There must be shown at "mobile network type" "HS(D)PA"
Could you confirm this and which provider do you use in Germany? (and in the USA?)
Yes, i confirm its HS(D)PA, i made two screenshots for you (see attachments).
I am only using it in Germany, my provider is T-Mobile.
Originally it was a Sensation 4G which was sold in the US with a T-Mobile US SIM card.
Sorry for late reply
Hey guys,
sorry for waiting so long, but there are great news
As I found out, there are two versions of the HTC Sensation
- z710e (e for European), named "HTC Sensation"
- z710a (a for America, or Australia?), namend "HTC Sensation 4G"
The European version (z710e) uses for 3G the network frequencies 900/AWS/2100 MHz. This means, that it would work in the USA, but only on 3G with T-Mobile US. With other carriers only on Edge.
The z710a is seemingly splitted into two versions again:
- version 1: supports 3G frequencies 850/1900 MHz
- version 2: supports 3G frequencies 850/1900/2100 MHz
Maybe both versions are the same and are only mistakes by the trader.
Important:
The HTC Sensation 4G (z710a) is available with the frequencies (3G):
- 850/1900/2100 MHz (available e.g. at Bell, NextG, Telstra)
- 1700/1900/2100 MHz T-Mobile US edition (Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDDcgweV0B0 at 0:30)
Both are named Sensation 4G (model: z710a), but work on different network frequencies. All carriers Germany uses 2100 MHz for their 3G networks. So all Sensations (with no or with 4G suffix) will work in Germany, because they support 2100 MHz for 3G.
At least a summary:
- there are two versions of the HTC Sensation (z710e and z710a)
- the version z710a is called Sensation 4G (z710e without 4G suffix)
- whyever 4G, because it does not support 4G/LTE ...
- there are two versions of z710a again:
- version 1: supports 3G on 850/1900/2100 MHz (available e.g. at Bell, NextG, Telstra)
- version 2: supports 3G on 1700/1900/2100 MHz (T-Mobile US edition)
- all carriers in Germany uses 2100 MHz for their 3G networks
- so all models will work in Germany on 3G speeds
- not all models will work in USA e.g. at AT&T with 3G speeds
Finally I decided myself to buy a HTC Sensation 4G z710a and it works very fine
It´s from Bell (Canada), but it has no logo or branding. However it has a ROM with preinstalled apps from Bell and has only four system languages. So I cant choose the German language, but so I can improve my English skills
I hope, I could help you with my information
Best regards

[Q] Flash Radio to Sensation 4G for HSPA 850??

Is it possible to flash a radio that supports HSPA 850 band for the Sensation 4G? I haven't gotten the phone as yet but it has already been shipped, and I noticed it supports 900/1700/2100 HSPA but not 850 band.
Pretty sure that's not possible, you'll need the Telsus version of the Sensation if you want 850. You intend to use it on At&t you will need a Telsus version.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
So basically this is a hardware issue, theres no way of flashing a bell or telsus radio to a t-mobile sensation to get 850 band for 3g?

Yes it is a hardware limitation. But check your sensation data sheet if it shows 1900/850, 2100/900 MHz, then it is a world phone. It can be used.
I had similar problem with inspire 4g which has 1900/850 Mhz radio. It is incompatible for the 3g band used in India. I sold it back.

Inspire 4G vs. Desire HD

This is my first post so please dont slam me for it. I have been dealing with android phones since i had a G1 and im quite familiar with the superuser and Linux layout. I have rooted about 10-12 android devices in my time. Including unlocking and custom roms. I now have what i believe to be a HTC Inspire 4g and am having trouble defining if i have that or a Desire HD. Whats the difference in the two? Rooting, specs, pros and cons. Any response would be appreciated. Again this is my first post and i do appologize in advance if i posted in the wrong section.

A little searching would have found this information very quickly as its been discussed here and all over the interwebs. The difference is a revision differnce in sound (which is why patches are needed between the roms. And the 3g radio. Easy way to tell, if you get 3g in north america you have an inspire, otherwise you need the desireHD for 3g in europe. They cannot be changed to work universally.
I believe you can go off the model number. Pull your battery door off and look at the model number, then do a search to see which one you have.

The Inspire 4G will have an ATT logo on the back of the phone. And don't forget that Telus in Canada released the Desire HD also. It looks exactly like the European Desire HD except for the small hole next to the camera LED. This is a second mic for noise reduction and is not present on the European version. Except for the ATT logo on the Inspire 4G and the HTC logo on the Telus Desire HD, they are physically the same phone. Both are A9192. The European Desire HD is A9191. Under the battery cover you may see this: Pd98140 is for the Telus Desire HD, Pd98120 is for the Inspire 4G, and no clue what the European Desire HD is.

omg you just quoted information that answers your own question. so read what you quote first. no they are not identical, im not gonna repeat what was already covered a mouse scroll up the page. ^^
They do not have 100% the same hardware. The radio is different.

This is wrong. The Telus DHD is the same as the AT&T Inspire 4G and different than the Euro model. Telus uses the same HSPA frequencies AT&T does, and the Telus model also uses the newer audio setup that the Inspire does. The only differences I know of between the Telus, AT&T and Latin American models is branding and CID. In this case, model number does not tell the story.

Oh no I am not wrong. I have the Telus Desire HD. Physically the phone is the same as the Inspire 4G except for the logo. But from the outside appearance it does look exactly like the European DHD. Now what did I say that was so wrong? Everything I mentioned was 100% correct. You just basically rephrased what I posted.
it's a big difference, I can tell... If only I knew that when I bought my phone... I have Inspire 4G and I live in Serbia, so no 3g signal for me.... (
i tried for some time to get 3g working, thinking it's some kind of software problem, but no. obviously, US phones should stay in US, right?

AT&T One X; does 3g work in Europe?

A colleague of mine wants a HTC One X with Snapdragon S4 instead of Tegra 3. The One XL from Germany is currently over 600 euro's, but AT&T's One X is only 550 dollars (like 450 euros).
I was wondering if the AT&T One X will work on 3g networks in Europe? And if not, if the radio from the One XL is flashable on the AT&T One X to make it work?
So far I've found out that de One X on AT&T supports 3g on 850 and 2100MHz, but the networks in Europe are based on 900, 1900 and 2100MHz (at least in Holland, where he lives). That means the 2100MHz should work out of the box, but the 900MHz wouldn't. I don't know if that's enough for good coverage.
Does anyone know if there are differences in hardware between the AT&T One X and One XL in Europa or if that's purely a software thing. I've asked HTC, but they didn't know unfortunately
Thanks in advance!
According to the following website, 3G in Netherlands is on 2100 Mhz (as is most of Europe) and GSM 900 and 1800 MHz for voice/EDGE: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
You sure your friend is not confusing the GSM bands from the 3G ones?
The AT&T One X works perfectly on 2100 Mhz 3G. I just used it in Germany a couple weeks ago, and 3G data worked fine. The phone also works on 1900 MHz 3G (AT&T used both 850 and 1900 for 3G), if in fact your friends carrier uses that band.
Frequency support is set in hardware. You can't add frequency support by software alone.
If your friend wants to use the AT&T One X, he will need to get it SIM unlocked, of course. Folks on here have been getting it done at a couple online places for around $11.
