Hi,
I was wondering how you would root a htc desire s hboot version 2.0.0002 with S-ON. Another question I had was on htcdev where I would like to unlock the bootloader on my phone the 'S' model isn't listed. Would it come under the desire or other phone models? Thanks
take other phone models since its a desire s and not a plain desire.
if you got your bootloader unlocked u need to downgrade the bootloader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318919
and continue with
http://revolutionary.io/
i didnt tried anythign of this yet but thats what id like to do with my desire s as soon as i got enough time
if youre happy with s-on you could go for the zergRush thing for temproot right after youre done with unlocking the bootloader with htcdev.
hope its correct. ive just started reading yesterady in here
€ or search for the superoneclick. same thing as the zergRush but much more easier to use

OK Thanks For Your Help
is it dangerous to do this?
im no pro in flashing and all this stuff but as long as you follow the instructions there should not be any prob. if theres any high risk in bricking the device or anything there will be an extra warning i guess.
oh and one big nogo i learned by my friends phone.... never ever pull the battery
and you lose the warranty by unlock with htcdev.
Ok thanks is it reversable when the bootloader has been unlocked? Thanks
I have now unlocked the bootloader so how do i root now?
if you just need root, check this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390496
if u want s-off u need to downgrad the bootloader and go for revolutionary like i posted befor
€ and always edit your post if u need to add something . dont double post like you did
u just can re-lock your bootloader with htcdev but u cant go back to the normal locked. not 100%sure about this

The point of installing a rom is that they can be smoother and more customisable, they also get rid of a lot of the branding **** that comes with the pjone.
As for sim-unlock this has nothing to do with s-off or routing, you can pay to get it unlocked from ebay, Idid it yesterday and it cost me £3.99, so very reasonable.
would this be ok? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNLOCK-CO...ultDomain_3&hash=item3cc0e2889b#ht_3192wt_952
and what is a goldcard? I am new to rooting
Looks ok, I used this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unlock-Co...ssories_RL&hash=item2c611a04e1#ht_2693wt_1344
what is a goldcard? Thanks
goldcard allows you to flash RUU files with a different CID to your device.
what would you say is the best rom? Thanks
Hello folks,
as I don't' want to start a new topic I do hope to get a straight NO answer here
I got:
- Android 2.3.5 & Sense 3.0
- Build 2.10.401.8 CL156318
- HBOOT 2.00.0002
- Rooted with SuperOneClick
- Done Unlock with HTCdev
Is there a way to install a Custom ROMs without downgrading HBOOT?

Hello,
I'm new to android and have been reading a lot. But not everything is clear.
With AlphaRevX you can s-off the desire s.
If you have 0.98.0000 and use AlphaRevX, will it still be 0.98.0000 or will it be upgraded to a higher number?
The desire s (gingerbread) can't be really rooted yet, only gingerbreak.
But to install a custom rom you don't need to be rooted, you only need s-off and goldcard?
Does anyone have an idea when htc will release a s-off tool or s-off bootloader?

The bootloader version number will be changed after alpharevx, to 6.something, to stop accidental bootloader down grading.
Ginger beak is the exploit that we use to achieve root, So it can be rooted!
You don't need gold card.
You're right in saying that you don't need root to flash custom, just soff and a recovery, CWM or EXT4
But you do need root to take the recommend pre custom backup
I don't see htc releasing unlocked boot loader to this device till at least late september as the schedule they've announced initially involves sensation and evo3d only

Thanks a lot, it is much clearer now.

I didn't know that.
So the only purpose of the goldgard is to downgrade the bootloader?

Yep, a pre-backup (a Nandroid backup) always helps and makes you feel slightly more secure when flashing!
Goldcards - I'm afraid that I'm not 100% sure about that.
A quote from @paulobrien @Modaco, "A GoldCard is a special SD card which, when inserted into your device, allows you to flash RUU (ROM Update/upgrade utility) files with a different CID to your own device. For example, if you own a T-Mobile branded device, this will allow you to flash a generic ROM."
As I don't own a network locked device I've never had to use one myself, so my knowledge about them is pretty thin.
Thanks, mine is also not a branded device.

Well since u went the revolutionary way ur all set to go as you got the best thing u can get, s-off. Plus I wouldn't even try goin the HTC route since I'm pretty sure it voids ur warranty(since they'll keep track of who uses it). And with the the revolutionary way, you can revert back to s-on if needed to send for warranty repair or sum
So go out and start flashing! (Well, roms ofcourse)

You can change it anyway if you're S-OFF - you don't need to unlock the bootloader
Any ideas how cos iv tried a few ways now with no luck

It only voids your warranty if that (unlocked bootloader) was what caused your phone to malfunction. All other warranties on the phone stay the same.

It's already S-OFF, which means the bootloader is unlocked. It's simply called two things - S-OFF and unlocking the bootloader are the same process/thing.
Cheers guys but I still can't change the dam splash screen

hi..
i am all stranger to HTC world.. i have been using galaxy s, s2 and ace.. things were easier when it came to rooting and flashing custom roms.. or at least there was less terms.. 3 days ago i bougth Sensation XE and since then i have been reading every page but the more i read, the more i get cunfused...
so, what i want is basically trying new kernels, OCing, using apps like setcpu or titanium backup etc.. in order to do these rooting the device was enough with the galaxy devices.. but here there are lots of terms..
here is what i think i understand;
S-off= this means unlocking the NAND part to be re-writable i guess.. the funny part is; i want to root the device and i guess i have to S-off the device but it says in order to S-off the device you must have alredy rooted it? or i am wrong?
Hboot version=i think this is very important since we have to choose the methots according to this... mine is 1.27.0000
super CID= no idea what this is.. but i assume it has no important role on rooting..
and there is the bootloader unlock option= htcdev.com is doing it but they say if i do it my phone is out of warranty.. it is just a 3 day phone and i dont want to lose the warranty... and i also have read some post about it not being a complete unlock.. so any method other then offical HTC ones would be better for not losing the warranty (i am sure even if i lock it back when its necessary, HTC will still have the records of me unlocking my device and wont let me use the warranty) ..
and there is this guide on the development section, it is really helpfull but the date of it tells me it was before ice cream sandwich update and 1.27.0000 hboot version and some of the instructions confirms that... so i guess i need some other method to root my device ... (after everything i am not even sure if the rooting is excatly what i need)
long story for short; i am lost among the terms and instructions.. especially after i tried to S-off my device in order to root and learnt it needed to be rooted first in order to be S-off .....
so please help me with the terms and instructions..
thanks ..
Okay, root is not needed to s off.
S-off disables the security on your bootloader.
Supercid means you can flash any piece of software no matter what area or network it was intended for, as each one has a cid code that restricts the software to the network or countrys phone e.g. unbranded sensations cid is HTC__001 and Vodafone would be VODA__xx. Supercid changes your cid to 11111111 which means everything that is protected by any cid code will work on your phone.
Back to s-off, using revolutionary tool is pretty easy as long as you follow the instructions correctly but will not work on hboot 1.27 so it requires downgrading using an ruu or eng. Hboot 1.17 or finding another method to s off 1.27, once s off using revolutionary all you have to do is flash a custom recovery and then flash superuser and voila your rooted. But you can also s-off, install custom recovery, upgrade firmware to 1.27 and flash a prerooted custom Rom which obviously does the trick. Just make sure to keep a track of what firmware you are on and make sure it works with what your doing and the Rom you're using. Oh and htcdev unlock is not necessary as you can flash a firmware with a unlocked bootloader plus revolutionary also unlocks bootloader. And as far as warranty goes, once s off or bootloader is unlocked your warranty is VOID.
Hope this helps

Fİnally! everything makes sense thanks a lot..
so the first step is to downgrade to a firmware which i can S-off and unlock, then to get back to pre-rooted version of my current firmware..
so i assume just like i can downgrade, S-off and unlock, i also can upgrade, S-on and lock back when i need the warranty?
Almost firmware contains the radio and Hboot etc, to obtain root you just first s off on the downgraded firmware, then upgrade to an unlocked firmware that is for ics. The firmware for ics is 3.32 which contains Hboot 1.27 but of course you cannot s off on this version of Hboot. Then flash a pre rooted ROM once you have gone back to ics firmware using a custom recovery. Once s off, you will not lose it when upgrading to a new firmware. But to s-on is risky but if you manage to do it without semi bricking your phone and then flash a locked bootloader HTC will never know you've voided your warranty as long as your on an unrooted Rom. I will pm you a great link for doing this and explaining as I know this is confusing. I won't post it here because its on another forum.

So I bought a One S from craigslist about 2 weeks ago. The guy said it was a dev phone. At the top on the case is a tag of numbers and letters printed on the phone. When I first boot the phone it has a HTC splash screen along with the text
"This build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal action."
Booting into the bootloader I get this:
*** LOCKED ***
VLE XC SHIP S-OFF RH
CID-11111111
HBOOT-0.90.0000
RADIO-0.14.31.22_2
OpenDSP-v10.1.0.31.0221
eMMC-boot

HBOOT
<VOL UP> to previous item
<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select item
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
SHOW BARCODE
Also it came with CWM 5.8.1.5 already installed. I tried to use Hasoon's tool to install a more recent CWM but it wouldn't work.
I tried to unlock the bootloader using the htcdev site and token and that didn't work.
I was able to flash it with the UTB ROM using the existing CWM and it works but I cannot gain root access even though supersu is installed and I add apps to its list.
Any ideas on how to get root access?
Looking at your HBOOT version it seems like the device is on early software. You're already S-OFF, so you can try flashing the official TMO release ROM and follow the guides on XDA to root.

You could talk to the devs in the development section (as soon as you have your 10 posts) und help them to get s-off with providing informations maybe.
yeah man that would be a great idea, PM some and see if you can help them as for getting the bootloader unlocked, Unless HTCdev isnt working, there isnt much else yet.
why does it not work ? what errors does it give ?
hmm seems that I'm lacking some knowledge ^^
Is there any necessesity for unlocking the bootlaoder if the device already has s-off? Thouht that s-off would mean no security and full system access.
S-OFF means the NAND partition is writeable, When its S-ON this partition is locked (Security ON ), so with S-OFF we can customise even further, Flashing Radio.IMGs and lots more,
With unlocked bootloader we can do things like install a recovery and flash Root.
the perfect scenario would to have S-OFF AND Unlocked Bootloader.

nope usually when using an S-OFF tool, such as revolutionary, It will unlock bootloader at the same time..

well it doesn't give me any errors, and says unlock successful, and just acts as if it went ahead and unlocked, but when i boot into the loader it still says locked. weird.
hmmmm..
maybe theres a command you can use in adb ? Im not sure..
I know the command to relock is ''fastboot oem lock'' maybe ''fastboot oem unlock'' might do something lol.
i have no idea as with most things in my life
Firstly I declare myself a noob for asking this but I want to be sure of what im doing before I do it.
Basically I want to run a patcher for a perticullar program on my phone however it needs root access to run.
Now my noob question is, what exactly do I need to do (is it just S-Off?) and can somebody send me a link with instructions on how to do this for my device.
I have a stock Sensation Z710e running ICS via OTA download on O2 (UK)
Android Version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense Version: 3.6
Software Version: 3.32.206.12
Any other info needed for definative answer just ask and i shall provide.
Thanks in advance for your help.

two ways for you to get root
1.SOFF then one click root ..guide link in my signature
or easy way ..but probable (very slim) void of warranty
2. HTCdev unlock (chk this site unlock bootloader)

You cannot gain s-off the normal way, kong story. You news to unlock bootloader via HTC devlock. This because u have ics stock, and therefore hboot version 1.27000. Them root and Them you van s-off via juponut...... something Luke that. Search and u will find.

Just a few quick questions:
1. When i boot up holding the volume down key it says S-Off however it still says locked at the top. I have managed to run the patch that needed root access so i'm guessing the phone is rooted fine.
2. Would it saying locked at the top pose a problem if i wanted to run a custom rom in the future and
3. Could i run a rom for the Sensation XL i.e overclocked processor and beats audio on my sensationand if so where would i find the rom?
Thanks Again

you can use the KGS tool (EDIT 3) in my guide for flashing the juopunubear hboot

first start with ARHD..as it has pre guided guide on how to flash it
