Take the back off and look at the copper contacts. Are they still intact and none are broken off? If all looks stable, try flashing a rom. If that doesn't work, back up and do a factory reset and reflash a rom. GL

You sure it's not your router? Some channels might not work with your device, router might auto select channel, manually change to different channels, have you tried on a different router,

I said my wifi is not turning on i didnt said it aint connecting my router, so connection is not my problem, read the thread carefully u'll know the main problem
ah i see, well the wifi and bt share the same antenna wich is the top antenna so if neither are working it must be this, check the metal pins in the back plate and check the plate above the camera. so you have warrenty??
Pins are perfectly normal n no i dont have warraty so yeah dunno what to do know
I also encountered this issue...
My case is the same, my Wi-Fi turns on - but stays on a loop. Turning on, scanning for network, turning off... rinse and repeat. But though I'm left curious about my case because my phone works when the case is off. which leaves me to think that the case is faulty in some sort of way. But to make it loop? that's odd on how the system works. This occurred to me when I was on the Virtuous Quattro ICS rom, I reverted back to stock, changed Kernel, changed Radio, Changed RIL, and nothing.
Then as I kept wiping with CWM, I thought to myself... if I'm wiping the system, how come CWM stays on it? And left me to wonder if all the people who have this issue is because there is some sort of cache or saved setting in one of the files that we are unable to wipe? and if that is the case, is there a way to actually wipe EVERYTHING off the phone? Or at least some script that can be written to wipe such information without damaging the phone? I'm at wits end with this issue, and for me, I hope it's the case. For I encountered this same issue with my Sensation when it was brand new (about 2-weeks old) and got to return it. I have warranty with my phone (the kind you pay monthly on the bill) so if a new case doesn't fix my problem, I may claim my phone lost or robbed, and get a new one. Though I think it would be the new Nexus, not feeling so confident about Sensation at the moment.
BUT! Please let me know if you find a fix.
To me it looks like a hardware problem though the antennas in the back cover n on the cell phone are perfectly fine but i have no idea wth is wrong with my device coz it fell from the 2 feet of height n it started to have this problem i mean seriously is sensation that delicate :/ i'm doubting the built quality of htc now
Must be. I mean why would it loop ONLY when the back lid is connected to it? I'd test out the bluetooth to see if it works as well but I currently have the Virtuous Quattro ROM installed and the Bluetooth feature does not work. *Sigh

I thought Bt wasnt working in Quattro. That's why I stayed away.
As for the fall, I have a tpu hyrid Aprolink case with a Seidio Active holster. Fell from a 3 feet drop and nothing was harmed. Do you have a case on your Senny?
But yes, try the BT connection and try there. Have you tried a factory reset of the phone?
I've been reading threads after threads and I see this person did a hardware fix, something I myself am not willing to try, but gave me some ideas.
This being the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204311&page=2
My idea is that if this person reset this chip by heating it up, I can probably do the same using the development tools and see if that works.
Exact same problem.
Htc Sensation XE two months old - stock rom - hasn't been rooted or modified in any way.
The following just stopped working for no reason;
Wi fi shows 'error' and wont turn on.
Bluetooth also fails to turn on
FM Radio app 'FM Turning On...' gets to 95% then says 'Turning off...'
On boot I'm getting this error,
'Process com.android.phone is not responding'
i've repaired my cellphone it was a hardware problem for me
I was having the same issues. Started reading this thread. So, i thought what the heck, i have 2 sensations, so i pulled the battery cover off of mine and put it on my wifes, the one that is not working, and what do ya know, wifi connected immediately!! Thank you to this thread!

You should visit a good repairing shop if you have any around you.
My Sensation XE has been two times in for repair for this issue. Wifi/BT doesn't turn on, it says "error" after trying to connect after a while.
Both times they changed the main flexboard, that's actually the whole dmn phone. It was offcourse free of charge, but turnover time is nasty and it's a pain reinstalling everything again....
I've seen this so many times here and other board that I'm inclined to say that the Sensation has a design flaw that makes it VERY susceptible to damage to the wifi. Even a small drop, just a few inches onto a table might do it......
I think we are going to se more and more of these issues from now on..

Two days ago my WiFi stopped working. WiFi simply won't turn on. I tap it to enable and it's working on it, but it takes longer than usual and gives me an error. Just says error.. the next day I noticed my Bluetooth had the very same problem. Won't turn on.
This happened a day after I got the new white back cover. However, I don't see a connection as the problem persist with the original back cover on. I tried reflashing my ROM to no success. I am also having the
Anker 1900 mAh extended battery.
Any other tips before I go on with a full wipe of phone and cache?

Ello m8,
Had a similar issue only my wifi was the only wireless function which wouldn't work, i'd click it and then wait, and wait, and wait and then it would say error.
Tried literally everything, I eventually admitted defeat and gave my phone back to the HTC rep who gave it to me, I got it from HTC for free in the first place as i work with phones all the time and they wanted me to test it for them, they replaced it straight away.
My advice for you would be to check my thread and see if anything that me and a few others have tried (oh and pray that it's a software issue) and if that doesn't work then bite the bullet, and unroot the phone by flashing an official RUU and send it back to HTC.
This is my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302347
Good luck and i hope you get it working again.

Hi,
Before you send it off,I had a similar problem with the wifi not working.
I opened the back and GENTLY lifted the two copper connectors just above the camera.
Bingo!
Wifi worked again.
Worth a try.

can you give us some basic information? such like rom & kernel version, wether you rooted and ade using cputuningtools or something like that.
if you are under stock rom(original samsung & all further updates over kies) and u have done nothing unnormally so far i would recommend use the warranty too; )

Agree. :good:
I'll wait for a few weeks or till the phone is usable for the kernel 3.0. :fingers-crossed:
If not then no other option but create a Rs.5000 hole in my pocket. :crying:
Same case with me... Bought the i9003 March 2011.
I'm on DDKP3 and around the same time as the OP, my touchscreen started to act strange... responsive only when charger is plugged in. Tried factory reset, but problem came back after some hours!
If this is a product-wide issue, then I guess sammy should replace it for free, even if it's out of warranty... too busy to go to the nearest service cenrter, will check later.
Till then, please keep me updated how it goes for you.
---------- Post added at 02:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 PM ----------
Just wondering, if a reflash of DDKP3 via ODIN or any custom ROM would solve the issue... please suggest.
I guess the sensitivity settings (or something like that) has changed without you knowing. Don't know if it is the same as s2 but in s2, sensitivity of the phone not plugged in the charger and plugged in has different settings. So maybe the settings for it in your case (unplugged) has changed but not on the plugged in settings. It's all in the kernel btw.

Maybe asking a kernel dev if the values changed or what not. If i'm correct then it's a software problem, if not then maybe a hardware problem.

Same problem!!!
It happened last week when my phone surprisingly started showing this problem. After unlocking the phone the screen becomes unresponsive. In my case it is just 1-2 secs after unlocking the phone.
It lasted for a day, I tried flashing different ROMs. I was on XXKPE when it happened. And than suddenly my phone started working fine until yesterday when this thing again happened and the problem still persists (I am still on KPE). I dont know what to do.
I think it can be some software problem as the screen and touch keys do work for some time before becoming unresponsive and even the logcat shows no problems for the touch screen. I am going to try more ROMs now. Will keep you posted.
Possible solution !!!
Friends, I think I found a possible solution for this issue. Though it seems to work for me... I have to keep the phone under observation for some days until I can say it's the final solution.
A similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695149
The possible cause for the touch screen going unresponsive seems not to be a hardware/software glitch; but environmental issue! And it doesn't depend on the ROM your'e running.
I noticed that most people from India having this issue say that this problem started in June, when the rainy season starts and it gets humid and damp.
In fact my phone showed this issue when it had rained for the last 2 days and it was very damp and humid inside the house.
You can do the following:
1. Take out the back cover, memory card, SIM and battery.
2. Place the backside of the phone near a hot air source (on top of a running CRT TV/monitor, hairdryer, laptop fan vent) for sometime.
3. Reassemble and check if the problem has gone away.
Do not panic if the handset gets a bit hot in the process!
In my case, I left it on the top grille of a CRT TV for a day which ran for 8hrs.
Do let me know if this works for you...
Flashing the ROM does not solve the problem

Touch Screen non-responsive Problem
I had the same issue and when i dismantlement the thing, came across a small batter. could this be the reason? Cos while charging this battery is not used but when running with battery, this small dry typed batter can be in use.

I can't get rid of it.
I've posted this in the CM9 Alpha6 thread but didnt have any response so trying here since it may not be ROM related. I'm S-ON and have been running A6 for 5-6 weeks and besides the battery drain and random reboots it was ok. Two days ago I tried the WiFi tethering for the first time and it work well for a few hours. However, suddenly it rebooted 3 times in a loop and went dead after the last reboot. I tried all combinations of pressing buttons (power, hboot, recovery...) , replacing battery, charger and so on and it just doenst power up and doesnt show any ligths. Connected to the laptop it doenst see the phone since is not powered on. The battery doesn't look swollen or defective and it was fully charged when the phone went dead.
I went yesterday to the TMobile store and tried with a new battery and didnt do anything. Also tried different chargers and USB to laptop, nothing, no response.
Any ideas why the phone went dead? Is it definitely gone? Should i add it to the collection of paperweights?
Thanks a lot
Also, is there anyway to wipe the phone's data? TMobile told me i can get a replacement but im worried all my data is in the dead phone ill be sending back
In almost ALL circumstances if you can't get in, they can't either. At least until it's sent back and you already have your new phone. Then HTC doesn't really have the time OR inclination to do forensic system analysis of every phone and will just go about replacing its guts & sending it back out as a refurb.
It having been a commercial "semi-flop" I persoanlly believe they will be happy when they all die and we all shut the hell up about ICS & JB. LOL

I dont worry about TMo or HTC bringing ICS/JB for any of my devices, since that will mean again getting read of crapware, settings....personally i prefer any of the multiple ROMs and thats part of the Android beauty...
Now, since i got the replacement i have to worry about sending my old phone back and it ending up resold without being wiped....do you know any part of the phone where a screwdriver tip (or hammer) will ensure the phone memory is gone?
If you could get it to come back on even just to HBoot I could tell you how to fry it BUT it would just take it back to where it is right now but with the partition tables borked. I can understand your concerns but I honestly think you're worrying about something that won't happen. Even if they were to use the internal memory again (IF they could) they would do a partition repair & reformat before reinstalling the stock ROM. I would be concerned though about sending one back with physical damage. That COULD turn into a "GOTCHA". KWIM?
Judging by your description, I'd say your phone has a hardware problem. If no lights are coming on, and there's absolutely no response, it's either the motherboard or the display.
But nothing HTC can't handle. They should be able to fix it and send it back no problem. Very rarely will they send you a new phone. They always try to save the phone you send in.
For software, they can probably restore it using their factory special cable connection (forgot what it's called).
That being the case it would still be sent back out to someone else after the repairs. TMobile will send a replacement to a customer and the borked one is sent back to them in the same box the replacement came to you in. At least that's what's happened to everyone I know (including myself) that has gone thru TMobile instead of having to deal directly with HTC.
^^^^^^^^^^^^ +1 couldn't have said it better myself

Just as an update and to post my experience replacing the phone; since i had insurance, TMo sent me the a new phone ... in less than 24h !!!, seems if you report before 5pm you get the new phone in your hands the AM of the next business day, pretty good.
The phone came on a special package, with return labels, but without SIM, SD, battery or back cover, just the "carcass". Put the old phone sim and old battery in and i worked fine....then spent the next hour unlocking, recovery, flashing ROM and updating apps+data....done and my new phone is practically the same as the old was.
Now i have 7 days to return the old one in the same package or they will charge me $300....probably im paranoid about the data in the old phone, but after reading http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/08/apple-amazon-mat-honan-hacking/all/ i immediately went and added 2-step verification to my google account...
So in summary, very good replacing process from TMo (if you have insurance), and added extra security to my GAccount...for the rest, just crossing fingers that nothing bad happens in the future

So i've been trying to fix my wifi for the last few days, i've tried flashing the august update, factory resetting, doing This Guide, taking apart the device and it still won't ****ing work, i mean wtf? I was texting my friend and suddenly it ****ing shuts off and when it turns on it doesn't want to connect to wifi and does all short of crazy thing. No it's not a power button issue and no it's not hardware, the thing freezes constantly(and reboots afterwards). I don't know, this left a very bitter taste of android in my mouth, and that's disappointing for someone who has been in the ecosystem since donut came out. I won't blame the Nexus 5 it's a great device and it will always be a great device (If it's a hardware issue i wouldn't be this butthurt since this phone is 2+ years old).
Problem details:
*WiFi won't work. Data, bluetooth, GPS, NFC, cell network, etc works.
*MAC address stays at 02:00:00:00:00:00. When it briefly worked the MAC address was 00:8x:xx:xx:xx:xx or something.
*System has a 98% chance of freezing and ****ing up. Not power button issue. It then reboots after it freezes like ****.
*Everything else still works, i'm 99% certain that it's software's fault.
*Now it shows blank screenw with navbar and status bar present, but on the status bar it says 23.06 (its 23.10 currently), no sim icon and no battery icon. It did something similar when the issue first started
What i've tried:
*Smacking the device, jk. Clean flashing the august update.
*Wiping cache partition
*Deleted persist/wifi
*Doing the persist guide on xda
*Completely discharged and recharged it, WiFi works temporarily
*Using Pry-Fi. And wifi fixer app with a penguin icon.
*Pray to God 24/7
*Flashing AOSPA
What i will try:
????
It could be a hardware issue. I have two nexus 5 motherboards sitting in my junk pile that work perfectly except wifi either won't turn on or won't connect to any open or password-protected network. I have also tried different Roms, radios, and boot loaders. Once I changed the motherboard without changing anything else, wifi was perfect.

If you tried a complete clean install of a factory image, and it still didn't work, then it's probably an hardware issue. It really looks like it too, but I'm no expert. How would a software issue persist among different flashes? I'd say something fried on your motherboard, and now you have that issue with wifi.
It could be hardware. Both motherboards that I have came from phones that were never dropped or came in contact with any moisture.
This can happen suddenly, similar to the sudden death of the emmc chip on the Nexus 5.
The wifi and emmc issue is not that uncommon in Samsung s4 either.

Ok so this morning it works again, but the software still kinda buggy (random freezes). I can access the web via chrome and i can download some stuff in the play store, is this still a hardware issue? I'm still worried the wifi won't turn on again though. The MAC address seems normal too now
edit: Nope, shuts off again. But it works in safe mode.... .wtf?

The wiFi works again now, but the software is still buggy, the MAC address is normal and i can do things with wifi like i normally would. Is this hardware? I thought if the wifi hardware is dead it won't turn back on at all
edit: nope it shuts off again, works in safe mode
How long does wifi work in safe mode?

Random. Today it worked for a few hours (not in safe mode). And yesterday it worked for like 30 minutes in safe mode
I still think it's a slowly dying wi-fi chip. If it's not too annoying, I would live with it.

Do you think the oven method will work to revive it?
It might but the fix would be temporary if it is a problem with the chip lifting.
same thing has happened to me just now .. its a common problem i think
wifi is f*****d

Chip lifting....? What does that mean?
I define lift as a situation where the phone heats up and causes a chip to lift away from the circuit board, causing one or more broken connections at the solder points. The process of heating the circuit board in an oven is sometimes referred to as "solder reflow" by some people.
So my Nexus 5 (a couple months ago) has started to just randomly go black. I get notifications and stuff, and the backlight but no display. Not sure what to do or what part to replace. Would flashing/rooting help at all?
Appears to be a hardware problem.
Was the phone every dropped or exposed to water/moisture? Possible loose connection inside?
No way to tell for sure if the phone needs a new screen unless you are able to test the motherboard in another N5.

It's been dropped a couple times but not like any major drops or anything. Im pretty sure I checked all the connections inside and they were good. Im starting to figure out that the phone has to be off for a little bit then I have to charge it and turn it on and it works again
Sounds like it could be a damaged lcd or lcd connection. If it can work after being charged while powered off, could be battery or USB flex cable issue.

Ya I figured out I have to reboot it a bunch of times then it will work
I think it might be the battery because this is my dad's old phone so it's been in use for a solid 3 years.. I wish I knew for sure though
So I have discovered that if my screen is on for a while the task bar at the bottom starts to shift up and down
Have you found out more about this? I think I have the same problem. My phone never turns black while I use it. But when the screen is off/sleeping, it sometimes won't turn on again. So a force reboot fixes it. Sometimes this happens a lot, some times it works fine a whole day.

I could also mention that this happen every time I unlocked the lockscreen on stock ROMs, and custom. But nameless ROM for some reason got it to this point at least. If any one have black screen on unlocking the block screen, try nameless rom...

So what your saying is to try the rom and see if it fixes it? Can I have a link or something, I don't know much about roms

Maybe, I don't think so. My phone was useless, black screen on every screen unlock. But namelessrom took that away, so that tip about nameless was for those who have the same black screen I had earlier. But now I have the same black screens as you do. Anyway, if you want to try it out, nameless-rom.org

Happens with my nexus too. The screen goes blank randomly ..... But i have managed to deal with it.
Its happan to me also, with 4 nexus 5 of my family.
Is a firmware problem?
I'm trying to buy a new flex cable to see if it will help I'll update when I find out
You're replacing the USB charging flex cable? If you are, be careful with cheap third-party replacements as I have read reports of people having issues with charging, signal, or speaker functionality after installing the cable.

Ya so i sent it to LG finally and the diagnostic said that it was a flex cable issue which I was sure that it was anyway but I have a confirmation now
I've had a similar problem when my display suddenly started failing. First, there was colourful bands over the working display, then colourful static only and then black with backlight only. Bought a new phone, left it for a year and today after digging in the phone for a while I found a fix. The connection between the motherboard (the top bit) and the daughter board (the bit below battery with USB and connection to display) was somewhat loose and when pressed on, the display worked beautifully. I stuffed the insides with some tape to maintain pressure on the connection and phone works great.
Might not work for your problem, but it's worth a try if you're out of warranty and have tools to disassemble the phone.
