[Q] Low quality calls on SINGH-UI MIUI-2.1.13 - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hello!
I've searched for something similar to my problem, but haven't found it, so here it goes:
I've been playing around with a few ROMs these weeks, especially MIUI ports, and I am really liking the ROM as a whole.
The only major PROBLEM that I have is that during a voice call the person on the other end of the conversation can barely hear me. They say the sound is clear, but the volume is very, very low. If I use a headset it's even harder for them to hear me and I have to keep the microphone really close to my mouth (I've tried several headsets - not any bluetooth ones, though).
Here's some info that might be helpful about my phone:
LG-P999 (even though I guess it's obvious, since I'm posting here)
ROM port:
G2x-SINGH-UI
Baseband:
M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 (JUL 15 2011 10:00:00)
MP:TRULGE_08.09.02R_MDM
Kernel:
2.6.32.49-cyanogenmod
Build:
MIUI-2.1.13
This behavior was the same for two other MIUI roms that I've successfully run on my phone (G2x-SINGH-UI v1.12.30 and MIUI_P999_2.1.6_ELP). Stock ROM and CM7 had no problems (although CM7 always started a call with the call volume at max, but that was on my side of the conversation - currently I'd like to fix the problem so that others can hear me).
Sorry if I'm too wordy, I just wanted to explain everything clearly.
Thanks!

Roms based on cm7 have this issue miui and anything that is 2.3.7. Some people claim they have no issues but many more claim they do have the issue. Nothing you can do except switch back to an old version miui like mid October or something.

Muffed Voice Testing

I decided to put this in the developer forum because i really feel like this is a problem with the roms/tweaks and needs to be looked into.
If the moderators thing otherwise i am sorry then.
I have been getting complaints with friends over the fact that i come in muffed. When i plug in the headphones that came with the phone to talk they say there is a big increase in clarity. They say when i am muffled they really need to focus to understand what i am saying. I decided to try a few different roms and surprisingly the quality has been different. I have used the same radio in every rom test as follows:
Radio : 10.56.9035.00P_10.14.9035.01_M (This should be the newest TMO OTA radio)
Roms:
Android Revolution HD 3.0.1 (Initial Rom i had. Very Muffled. No dual core patch.)
Android Revolution HD 3.0.3 (Upgraded to this one wondering if it will be fixed. Same muffledness. Had dual core patch)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
Stock TMOUS 2.3.3 - rooted/de-odexed(This had almost no muffleness, was the clearest of them)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207410
Stock TMOUS 2.3.4 - rooted/de-odexed (This was almost as good Stock 2.3.3. Very hard to tell the dif)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226686
Superlite *v1.3* by HTCCLAY (Very bad muffling again)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229073
InsertCoin Sense Android 2.3.4 Stable 2.3.0 (Medium Amount of muffleness)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198684
http://insertcoinrom.blogspot.com/search/label/pyramid
In all cases the headphones preformed the same amount. They were pretty clear and really helped the muffleness except in the case of insertcoin. The headphones also seemed to have a slight amount of muffleness to them, the difference between headphones and mic was slight.
I have seen other posts about this issue but no clear explaination or dirrection in trying to fix them. I hope this jump starts stuff.
It seems the more modified roms are the ones experiencing the issue... but obviously this isnt the most comprehensive testing.
I did these test over the course of 3 hours with my brother. He stayed in his room in the house and i stepped outside on the sidewalk in the same place every time. Wifi calling was NOT used.

i tried ARHD and IC2.3.0 - no muffled voice from my end. in fact, it was crystal clear. IMO if you've plugged in your earpiece and it sounds ok on the other end, then there's a high chance its the set's microphone thats faulty.
i suggest switching back to stock rom (S-on etc) and see how it goes. if its still muffled, its time to go for warranty
Have moved this to the General forum (for the time being at least).
You'll need to find out if other Sensation users have the same problem. I haven't had anyone tell me they have trouble hearing me with any custom ROMs.

Well i have tried the stock roms and its been reported to sound alot better.
It would be nice if we had that multiboot thing going on our phones lol
And i didnt try S-On again because i heard it runs the risk of bricking....
I have the same problem except if I was to call someone, my voice to them would sound like garbage. Obviously its noticeable as well cause they will tell me they can't hear me and it sounds like crap.
For me,
Roms that have this:
Android Revolution
Senseless
Roms that don't:
Virtuous(currently on)
i had those "garbage" sounds on almost every phone i owned accept for the Nokia 5210 and below Its telco problem not the phone.
phones with garbage sound (that i have owned) : BB9800, iPhone2/3/4, Desire, E72
@yajinni - have you tried switching phone with your brother ? let him use the "muffled" phone instead. it 'could' be the way you hold it

Its worth a try i guess but if it does do that its retarded. I use android because i hate apple but i get the same issues as them? lol
Will test with more roms and will try Virtuous when i get the chance. Are you using 1.3?

Mute not working for Bluetooth on CM7 or CM9 ROMs

I just wanted to share something that I found the hard way.
The Mute is NOT working if you are using Bluetooth with a CM7 based ROM.
I actually am using EB 2.4 ROM and I was listening to a conference call with my Bluetooth headset with the Mute selected on the phone when I got an e-mail from a colleague telling me to mute my phone
This issue is already listed in the cyanogenmod project page as issue# 4439.
I just wanted to let people know of this bug and hopefully be saved from some embarrassing moments.
UPDATE:
The issue happens in all CM based ROMs that I have tested so far, including the beta ICS CM9 ROMs

Interestingly enough it does not work in CM9 either. Tried the build, love it but hate the missing mute function.

That's too bad. I was hoping it would've been fixed on CM9.
Oh well. Just need to keep being careful and using the mute feature of the conference itself, instead of the phone.
BTW if you don't have an issue downgrading you can go to 2.3.3 and the problem goes away.
A BT connect problem may arise (as for me) but still worth a shot.

I think I remember something about the CM team saying bluetooth will never fully work, they had to do a workaround just to get bluetooth headsets working in the first place. Also, you should update your Eaglesblood build, 2.8 has some nice new things.

I've seen the new status, I've not tested yet because I'm not sure if I need the new baseband with CM7.2 or not....
I'm affraid of trying to install the new baseband and mess up my current ROMs.
Thanks for following this issue.
Mute when on Bluetooth still not working
I am a very new and mostly very happy CM7 user with an LG G2X that was in desperate need of getting off of the stock ROM. I did the installation last night and just found out the hard way that my mute button does not work when I'm on my bluetooth headset. I came across this thread when searching for a remedy.
I'm not sure if my exhibiting the bug confirms that it still exists, or if there are other files/etc. that I need to upgrade or swap out. (i.e. radio, etc.) that did not come with my download last night.

Yeah. Before v21y I was running Weapon and now running stock 2.3.4.
Bluetooth mute is more important for me than a ROM

Actually just found out that blueant Bluetooth headsets can be muted by holding vol+ and vol- for 3 seconds... go figure.
You may want to check your headset manual too.

[Q] low microphone gain revisited

Hey Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone found a workaround to this issue in regards to cm7/9/10 based roms?
I flashed almost every combination of rom and kernel the last 4 days, and while i love flashing new stuff, i'm about to throw my phone out the window.
Here's what I've noticed. The march 2012 baseband with newer cm7 nightlies to help a bit but its still no where comparable to stock rom/kernel, not to mention bluetooth issues with the new baseband.
Singh-ui (cm7 based) lists in the change log a mic gain fix which seems to work decently well.
I'm guessing there are no apps out there to boost mic gain? I tried looking around but nothing. Anyone one else with any observations to add?
They only thing i can add is ive flashed damm near every rom/kernel amd have never experienced such issues. Ever. Same baseband as you. Very odd.
Sent from G2x running BuROM v0.2 (root; mod stock 2.3.4) w/ faux's GB kernel 014b2-ext4.
Interesting, for me on old bb, people had a hard time hearing me, on new one people can hear me but it picks up bg noise really bad. I recently bought a pair of headphones with a mic, Skull candy brand, and the person who I have a really bad time with raves about the new clarity with the head phone/mic combo.
Edit for what it's worth I am I'm temansk (if I spelled it right) cm7 w/ faux 52.

Cyanogenmod/Carbon Rom call problems on Galaxy S3 I9300

Hi all,
As im new here i couldn’t post this on the development posts so have had to drop this here for now. I know there have been other related threads like this but my situation seems to be more unique and more annoying :crying:
After rooting my galaxy s3 I have had numerous call problems on both cyanogenmod and Carbon Roms. It started with cyanogenmod 9.1 stable and experienced problems where there was no sound at either end of the call, sometimes I could hear the other person speaking but they couldnt hear me. Other times when i answered the phone I would hear them speak but there voice would be distorted, sounding more like a robot. Theses problem would usually be fixed by either me or them calling back.
Thinking this had been fixed on a cyanogenmod nightly I tried them... however this seemed to make no difference, even on the newer versions.
Fed up I moved onto carbon Rom (despite this being cyanogenmod based) and have had the same problems with even the very latest build thou the distorted sound just became more common, even after a whole month of use.
I have now moved onto the liquid smooth Rom in hope i wont have the same problem... if this fails then its back to the old stock Rom
Has anyone else had the same problem or heard of this before??? Any feedback would be appreciated =)
Many thanks
Distorted sound on liquid smooth to.... =(
Yes! I have been having the same problem I think. I have looked everywhere and haven't been able to find a solution let alone another person describing the problem. About one in every 6 or 7 calls has a bubbly distorted sound but the person on the other end can hear me OK. I'm running CM 10.1 on a GS3 i747m. Did you find a solution or find anyone else with a similar problem?

If this is any help and I know its late, but carbon ROM is based on many cyanogenmod parts (the MMS app, many features and I'm sure the phone app). If you are having problems going to on cyanogenmod the problem is likely to ocurr in carbon, AOKP or Paranoid android are less likely to have the same problems though.
You have to go back to stock rom .. eliminate binnary status.
and then take it to a Samsung service center.
I think the galaxy s3 is no damage on the hardware you
sorry i use translate.google
I can't agree. I have the same problem and need to reboot each time. I've flashed about 10 different ROMS. This problem only exists on cyanogenmod. I have no clue, but I've been looking for an answer for some time now.

[Q] Ongoing Bluetooth Headset outgoing voice quality issues - recommended ROM?

I am currently having outgoing voice quality issues while using a bluetooth headset (or in car/truck bluetooth) that I am trying to nail down with both HTC and Jawbone. I'm 90% sure at this point it's an HTC issue. I purchased an HTC One M8 on Verizon a week or so ago and immediately had issues with my Jawbone ERA. Voices sounded fine on my end but my voice on the other end sounded static-ey and overly loud - almost like the mic was too hot. I tried a ton of troubleshooting steps with both Jawbone and HTC and so far the issue remains. I also took the phone back and exchanged it for a new one and the new phone has the same issue. I've now tried 5 different bluetooth devices all with the same/similar result.
I found an old HTC One (M7 I think?) thread over on Android Central that seemed to be discussing the same issue:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one/309574-anyone-else-having-bluetooth-headset-sound-quality-issues-one.html
but no solution was found and it sounds like most people there just sort of gave up.
Sorry for the long explanation but one thing I wanted to try was using a ROM with a different bluetooth stack or system to see if that might point me to an HTC software issue vs a strict hardware issue. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm fairly comfortable with installing ROMs though on my old Droid, Safestrap certainly made it easier for me.
Thanks!
I had a ridiculous static with my jaybirds so I just ended up returning the headphones and ditching Bluetooth sadly. I don't think a ROM will change it

So there's no difference in bluetooth implementations between a Sense based ROM and say an AOSP or CM based ROM?

Well, out of curiosity I s-off'd the phone, perma-rooted, and flashed TWRP. I installed the GPE ROM, the Viper ROM, and the latest nightly of Cyanogenmod. Interestingly, the CM rom seemed to have MUCH improved outgoing bluetooth voice quality. The other ROMs all had the same issue.
Does CM somehow use a different bluetooth stack or something that would cause this? Honestly, I'd stay on the CM but I actually like some of the HTC features (like the duo-camera) and not sure I'd want to give those things up. Would it somehow be possible to use CM's bluetooth solution in something like the GPE ROM or even stock?

I'm on CleanRom and I'm also extremely sensitive to Bluetooth quality issues. I'm using both a Plantronics Legend and the Bose ear pieces and I hook the device up to a Pioneer DEH-80PRS in my car. I have to say I've never had a better Bluetooth experience. No complaints - superb quality - both ends

I'm now also on CleanRom and it is definitely better. My few tests so far weren't quite as clear as my CM tests but MUCH better than stock. This seems so strange to me. This is just a stripped down Sense ROM, like others yet a significant difference in quality. Both Viper and GPE had the same bad quality as stock. I wish I had the understanding/capability to truly root cause the issue as I'd love to have the freedom to use whichever ROM I choose. However, I do very much like CleanRom for now - the Verizon bloat on this phone was the worst I've ever had yet I do like a few of the Sense 6 features.
