[Q] low microphone gain revisited - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone found a workaround to this issue in regards to cm7/9/10 based roms?
I flashed almost every combination of rom and kernel the last 4 days, and while i love flashing new stuff, i'm about to throw my phone out the window.
Here's what I've noticed. The march 2012 baseband with newer cm7 nightlies to help a bit but its still no where comparable to stock rom/kernel, not to mention bluetooth issues with the new baseband.
Singh-ui (cm7 based) lists in the change log a mic gain fix which seems to work decently well.
I'm guessing there are no apps out there to boost mic gain? I tried looking around but nothing. Anyone one else with any observations to add?

They only thing i can add is ive flashed damm near every rom/kernel amd have never experienced such issues. Ever. Same baseband as you. Very odd.
Sent from G2x running BuROM v0.2 (root; mod stock 2.3.4) w/ faux's GB kernel 014b2-ext4.

Interesting, for me on old bb, people had a hard time hearing me, on new one people can hear me but it picks up bg noise really bad. I recently bought a pair of headphones with a mic, Skull candy brand, and the person who I have a really bad time with raves about the new clarity with the head phone/mic combo.
Edit for what it's worth I am I'm temansk (if I spelled it right) cm7 w/ faux 52.

Hows the experience on the Inspire? Any issues?
Just wanted to find out if its worth going through the process. It seems a little more involving than other rom installations.
Works great. Sound sucks. I missed the nicer camera app so I switched back to stock rooted oc
Ill hold off for now then till the sound is fixed. Thanks
The tinny sound may be fixed by Turbonium if his thread is right. I will be testing it tomorrow.
Other than that I love it.

There is nothing like CM. Smoother than anything and fast. I just applied the sound fix and its as close to stock sound as I can remember. I forsee that fix being cooked into all Inspire kernels moving forward.
Which version would be the best to use? I think theres like 2 or 3 plus the nightlies?
I'm using the nightly #7 and it rocks, though there is no support on nightlies (can't file bugs), they seem to be as reliable as a stable build. If this doesn't convince you, RC 1 is also available which works just as good. BTW sound has been fixed here, I just tried it and it works as stated. The only thing I miss from a Sense based ROM is the Connected Media app to be able to watch videos on my HDTV and the Camera app, but I can live with CM7 without those apps.
I'm using RC1 and it's amazing.

I got the buggered cwm from another rom and almost didn't bother fixing it to get cm7.
glad I did. After flashing the latest nightly and the sound fix this is with out a doubt the best rom I've used and in general the best android platform I've used. Snappy, smooth, and as a galaxy s defector GPS and everything else simply works. Hard to believe this is an unfinished rom as its still in RC status. The guys building this thing obviously know wtf they are doing.
I recommended any one who has an inspire flash this ROM.
Sent from Inspire 4g CM7 nightly 8.
I second this. I have no clue as to why it would be called RC if it feels like premium quality software.
I flashed it a couple hours ago.Im gonna give it more time but I really want to go back to Coredroid. It feels about the same on the speed and smooth factor but without the sense I kinda feel like I was back on my captivate.Sense has me sold I think.
I see a lot of posts here about CM 7, so are people just flashing CM 7 that's for the Desire HD or is it one specifically for the Inspire? Just wondering because I ordered an Atrix and I don't see as much development going on for it when compared to the development for the Inspire. But maybe that has to do with the locked boatloader. I'm going to test it and out for a day or two and if it's not up to my standards, I'm going to exchange it for the Inspire.

The Desire HD one, I am using Nightly 8 with TurboniumX's audio fix. Works like a champ.

Best ROM

Hello everyone, Im a noob here and with this new hobby. Im not a noob to the whole aspect tho, I did alot with DTV and DN then FTA so I have some knowoledge. I just rooted and installed S7 rom, then like a noob locked it out but figured out how to fix. So my question being a noob is what does everyone consider the best ROM for the infuse and why? And youre opionion on best apps to install once freed up? Glad to meet everyone here and thanks for all the reading I have done over last 3 days, it saved me and my phone LOL.
The new bionix is a infuse based rom but the ports coming in are awesome as well try the new darky rom!!

thanks everyone, I probally will try them all after everyones feedback, like i said im new and running S7 and hate resetting my gmail and reloading all my apps after re-installation. This way i can read and investigate all roms peeps suggest before I make the leap. S7 is ok i guess but was expecting so much more, right now got my eye on Bionix, but all your inputs helps a noob like me out greatly. Thanks
im running the new bionix i like it so far
Cool can you tell us why what you think the advanages are?
I'm running Infused v2.2.3, it's a great rom that gives good battery life. Unforunately, the developer has stopped work on it (he's supposed to be coming back once AT&T GB releases). But it's a solid rom.
CM7 or Darky. Darky is likely the best i9000/Captivate/Vibrant ROM, if you really want an Infuse based ROM, the only one I've used is Infused and it's pretty good.
AT&T's lastest leak: KK2 with Entropy's kernel for root.
I've removed most of the bloatware and did my own theme with pieces from this theme and that theme.
I get 14-18 hours on a charge. WiFi, Bluetooth & Data all work and are fast.
Only problem is video being broke.
I'm enjoying the Infused 2.2.3 also. Very stable, and greta battery life.
MIUI is awesome some bugs semi broken bluetooth havent tried the darky or some of the other newer roms tried dlev was alright infused was ok. Would wait for ICS before flashing something new.
Miui is my favorite. Works better than anything I've tried.

I've tried a lot of the roms out right now, I kept going back to Infused from gtg465x because of it's stability (I like to know for sure that I'm getting my calls and messages) but currently I'm very pleased with the mosaic ROM. It's really a great balance of stability and style, with just enough customizable options to make it feel unique. Also my wife has an infuse and she is a big fan of the Doctorz ROM (they just released version 9 that apparently fixed some of the glitches that v8 had) but I am steadily turning her into a regular flasher...of roms. lol. Anyway shealso tried the black one and it was very flashy but had lots of Italian glitches, currently she's tuning the GingerReal2 and she loves it.
Bottom line is...a matter of preference. I like stability with a dash of flashy, some people prefer flashy and don't care if some stuff doesn't work...others don't care if there phone is as boring as a rotary from the 80's as long as they can count on it working properly.
Hope this helps and have fun flashing!

VictoryRom v1.7 working best for me. No issues of any kind. KK2 does NOT have broken video like previously mentioned. My videos and youtube work great. I flashed it over a fresh install of gtg's unbrick.
i am also trying to find the best rom, but they all seem to have small problems that aren't necessarily dealbreakers, but slightly annoying to deal with every single day. I have been running cm7 for a while, and it's awesome, but I want my bluetooth audio back. i might be wrong on this one, but I think all the captivate/i9000 ports are going to have that "first call" bug. I was looking through all the leaks, and they seem to have widespread weirdness, which is what i would expect from a leak. I guess what I'm looking for is the latest version of android I can get without these bugs. should i go back to stock?
infused 2.2.3 with E's daily driver.
A lot of roms are not based on the infuse, those will break your bluetooth; thats a deal breaker for me. I would like to try some of the others and I have heard some really great things about them, but need the bluetooth for my car.

KK2 builds should get your bt audio working. Anyone with bt audio in their car should avoid MIUI and CM7...they will never get the bt working on the Infuse.
Bluetooth works fine for me.

[Q] Low quality calls on SINGH-UI MIUI-2.1.13

Hello!
I've searched for something similar to my problem, but haven't found it, so here it goes:
I've been playing around with a few ROMs these weeks, especially MIUI ports, and I am really liking the ROM as a whole.
The only major PROBLEM that I have is that during a voice call the person on the other end of the conversation can barely hear me. They say the sound is clear, but the volume is very, very low. If I use a headset it's even harder for them to hear me and I have to keep the microphone really close to my mouth (I've tried several headsets - not any bluetooth ones, though).
Here's some info that might be helpful about my phone:
LG-P999 (even though I guess it's obvious, since I'm posting here)
ROM port:
G2x-SINGH-UI
Baseband:
M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 (JUL 15 2011 10:00:00)
MP:TRULGE_08.09.02R_MDM
Kernel:
2.6.32.49-cyanogenmod
Build:
MIUI-2.1.13
This behavior was the same for two other MIUI roms that I've successfully run on my phone (G2x-SINGH-UI v1.12.30 and MIUI_P999_2.1.6_ELP). Stock ROM and CM7 had no problems (although CM7 always started a call with the call volume at max, but that was on my side of the conversation - currently I'd like to fix the problem so that others can hear me).
Sorry if I'm too wordy, I just wanted to explain everything clearly.
Thanks!
Roms based on cm7 have this issue miui and anything that is 2.3.7. Some people claim they have no issues but many more claim they do have the issue. Nothing you can do except switch back to an old version miui like mid October or something.

[Q] Most stable Gingerbread ROM

Hi i was wondering what the most stable gingerbread rom is right now for the G2x? I was using eagleblood's ics rom but I want to be able to use camera, browser and internal storage for music (I dont have an external sd card right now). but yeah tahts my question. I heard the one from lg/tmobile isnt the best
Stock or custom? Cm7 I feel is the best, but some might disagree.

My wife has EaglesBlood GB on her phone, and she says it's really stable for her. On occasion, it freezes up on AC power, but other than that, it works really well.
And, like mt3g said, CM7 also works really well. Although others complain that it's buggy for them, but that's just the nature of these phones: what works for one phone, doesn't work well for another. Trial and error is your strange bedfellow.

Ya but you have to use the new baseband zip file owain created. Its in the op oh his thread.

If you want something easy to customize, I recommend Hellfire Phoenix over EaglesBlood because its based on the newest CM7 source, which includes a lot of fixes and more tweaks.
Now if you want a stock look (along with that better stock battery life), I recommend Bionix Reloaded v1.4.1 because its heavily tweaked for better battery life, and gives you all the stock Tmo apps like Wifi Calling, DLNA Sharing, etc.
The kernel is important too, and I always used Faux's kernel without any problems. In fact, using Faux helped solve some, as people running other kernels weren't able to play games such as Draw Something.
Sent from someone's Galaxy Nexus running AOKP + Franco
I like CM7, but have been running Hell Fire Phoenix for a LONG time, and love it.
Specific reqs
My wife is a medical professional and is sometimes "on call". I bought our phones a year ago, and didn't switch from stock 2.2.2, because no ROM/kernel (if I'm using those terms correctly) seem to be able to fix the Black Screen Of Death. So now I wonder the same - which ROM and or kernel is the most stable? She loves the stock LG camera, doesn't use BT nor WiFi calling - she NEEDS STABILITY!!! I know I can search thru the dev forum, but there are many posts, some by zealots. I'm looking for opinions from people who have tried many. It could be that the new LG V21Y will be good for her....
She doesn't need to customize - she just wants a phone that is working every time she pulls it out of her purse.
I vote for LG's stock 2.3.4 with new baseband.
My wife has not rebooted her G2x since updating to the new V21y/2.3.4. It's been at least a month for her w/o ANY complaints. She used to ***** at least daily about needing to pull the battery or reboot. Call quality is much improved, but what really impresses me is the speed and accuracy of the GPS now (not sure how much that matters for your wife). Battery seems to be at least as good as when I run the latest CM Nightly with Morfic's Trinity ELP kernel underclocked.
I too keep a nandroid backup of the new stock rom on my G2x. I find it the most stable of anything I've tried. Recently I've been on Hellfire Phoenix w/ either Morfic's ELP or Faux's 50b6 kernel. I've also been through all the recent Cyanogenmod releases lately.
Benefits of the stock ROM...
-No black screens of death
-Great battery life
-Clear in-call sound
-Quick GPS locks
-Minimal force closes
Compared to CM-based ROM's I mostly miss the brightness controlled by sliding across the status bar, the status bar toggles, the CM themes, and the "render effect" that allows me to pick the hue of the screen. I like to run the red one (least bright) when I just can't stop using the phone at night.
I am beginning to play with the rooted 2.3.4 (Thanks kwes1020) in hopes of regaining some of that custom functionality that I miss from the CM-based builds...
Appreciative lurker, first time poster
This thread looks like the best one to get my questions answered. TIA.
Brand new G2X (got the $30 T-mobile Walmart plan), running 2.3.4 on the March 2012 BB, kernel 2.6.32.9 (if that matters)
Basically I'm looking for something stable, though I am interested in customization.
Features that are important to me:
Battery Life, speed, GPS, WiFi Calling, Bluetooth streaming (but dont care about Bluetooth calling), fast camera
Based on all my reading in these forums, I think I should be looking for a GingerBread ROM that allows some neat customization. CM7 7.2 Stable seems to be the most recommended right now. Is that right?
Also, though I have a couple years experience with Android, this will be the first time I root a phone and install a custom ROM. I was planning to use the video tutorials at theunlockr.com to start the process. Having watched all those, it looks like there are 3 steps:
1. Root: http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/03/how-to-root-the-t-mobile-g2x/
2. Flash Custom Recovery Image: http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/03/how-to-flash-a-custom-recovery-image-on-the-t-mobile-g2x/
3. Load Custom ROM: http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/03/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-t-mobile-g2x/
However, I saw in another thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761772&page=2 ) that "There is no need to root your stock Rom if you are using NVFlash to flash CWM."
So, is this a newer method or the same thing that unlockr.com is instructing me to do?
I know that's alot, but thanks for any advice...

Well, I rooted my phone for the first time about 3 months ago and I used the unlockr method. As long as you follow step by step instructions everything should go smoothly, I screwed it up and had to reload stock rom, but that just made me understand the process better.
As for which ROM to get, I tried various ones Eaglesblood, Hellfire both ICS and GB and I found that the one I liked the best was Hellfire CM7.2 supertweaked. I couldn't do ICS because I actually want to watch videos on my phone and it was too laggy. However, Hellfire ran smoothly and the battery life is amazing compared to stock. I have had this phone on mostly standby for a whole day and it was still on 60% battery life. There are no problems with wifi and camera is good. I am not sure about bluetooth since i don't use it, but the news is that there will soon be fixes to any bluetooth issues.
An extra piece of advice, if you are going to root your phone and I recommend you get the Auto Memory Manager and FasterGPS app. The former is better than app killer, which are bad for your device and the second will immensely increase GPS lock on time.

Thanks for the quick response. So, did you do the 3 videos in that order? That is my plan. And I will look for the Hellfire ROM, thanks.

A confused G2x owner has a couple of questions.

Hi guys. I just picked up a used G2x off of craigslist, assuming it was going to much better than my Optimus T...not so much. The phone is great, but it's got two major issues I can't stand:
1. it randomly reboots all the time. Drives me insane.
2. The phone apparently makes a lot of odd noises (according to my girlfriend), i'm going to just label this bad "call quality".
My phone is on 2.3.4 official rom, v21y software, and has the March 2012 baseband.
I've been digging through piles of threads, and most of them are from last year. I can't find anything that suggests how to fix the random reboots. I can't handle it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
As for the bad call quality, I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776843
and there's three possible basebands. I think I'm on the latest one (March 2012), but is there one that's better for call quality or newer?
Any help with these two things would be great. I'd just like to make this thing useable for a couple months til I get the S3.
Thanks,
Gunnar
PS: I already did a ton of searching, so please don't give me the whole noob speech about using the search button. Thanks.
Did you do a factory reset?

There is no fix for it. It just happens. Some it happens less with, some it happens more with. However, I've been able to minimize mine and actually haven't had it at since I've went to CM 7.2 Official with Faux123 Version 52 Kernel. This works VERY well for me and I really like the phone now once all of the problems are eliminated. This entire setup works on the new baseband too so no worries there. Not sure if you are rooted and into flashing ROMS but that is the setup has worked best for me. I tried stock and then Weapon G2x but none of them remedied the problem until I flashed CM 7.2. I still had it occasionally with other Faux123 Kernels but since the release of Versions 51 and 52 I have not has one single random reboot or shutdown.

Well... If you did a search.... *ducks* Sorry.. J/K
Like others have said, you'll find sanctuary in using one of the CM 7.2 ROMS that are currently available. They are GingerBread 2.3.7 ROMs, that are upgrades from stock 2.3.3 / 2.3.4. Since you are on the current baseband (March 2012) I would decide if Bluetooth Calling is valuable to you. If it is, then DO NOT UPGRADE to a CM7 / CM9 ROM. Bluetooth Calling breaks when you use any of the CM ROMS with the new baseband (unless this has very recently changed).
Alright, I guess I'll give CM 7.2 a shot once I get up to college and get moved in tomorrow (along with that kernel you mentioned). The thing is, eventually this phone is gonna get unlocked and sold on eBay, so I just wasn't sure if I could fix any of these problems or if I should just get rid of it now...
I don't bluetooth calling, so that isn't an issue.
Does CM 7.2 alleviate any of the pops/bad call quality? And as for that Faux123 kernel, I found the thread but I can't find version 52, only 51, is that good enough?
Thanks,
Gunnar
If you go with hellfire phoenix it's cm7.2 based with extra goodies baked in.. and it also already has faux kernel baked in.. Im running it right now and it's awesome... Although I did flash faux 048 kernel today, had some weird issue with wifi on and my phone overheated in my pocket and shut down on faux 052 kernel. Never happened till I had wifi on. Now running 048 and it's smooth as butter..

no, no reboots or anything like that. just overheated that one time.. the 048 kernel is on this page, post #4044.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420972&page=405
just remember to go to settings-applications-developement and check stay awake while charging.. this prevents the overheat issue while charging that faux kernels have.. enjoy!! oh and you will also need the new BB fix if your on v21y..

no, no reboots or anything like that. just overheated that one time.. the 048 kernel is on this page, post #4044.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420972&page=405
just remember to go to settings-applications-developement and check stay awake while charging.. this prevents the overheat issue while charging that faux kernels have.. enjoy!! oh and you will also need the new BB fix if your on v21y..

What does BB fix stand for (I'm guessing baseband)? I feel like such a noob when it comes to android...I can flash an xbox 360 and do anything I want on iOS...but seriously Android is the land of the unknown.
It's flashable .ZIP that you to flash with any G2X rom to make it usable with your baseband version. For instance, I have the march 2012 baseband and if I don't flash the fix I get pops and feedback during a call.
This thread has combined them all into one post:

Thanks.
