ChaCha BOOTLOADER unlock [Help & Info Thread] - HTC ChaCha

HtcDev bootloader unlock for ChaCha
INFO: unlocking the bootloader will NOT give you s-off but you will be able to root your device and install custom roms.
You will not be able to flash hboot or radios and your device won't be network unlocked.
http://htcdev.com/bootloader
Tutorial here written by theq86: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432199 for people that need help with the process.
Report back if it worked for you guys or if you have any problems.
Use this thread for all your discussions relating to official bootloader unlocking rather than making hundreds of topics for the same info or problems.
That way anybody needing help can come here and ask rather than digging through many pointless posts.
AFTER YOUR UNLOCKED
Once you unlock your bootloader grab yourself clockwork mod from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15560528 follow the directions to install.
Read the instructions carefully.
Download the file and place in the root of your SD.
Turn off your phone and remove battery.
Replace battery and hold volume down and power until the bootloader opens.
It will scan for the file you placed on your sd root and ask if you want to update
Say yes by pressing the button it says to confirm.
When finished reboot.
NOTE: Delete the clockwork mod file from your SD root or it will keep trying to flash it when you try getting into the bootloader. Do this by either card reader or with a file explorer on your phone.
TO GET INTO CLOCKWORK MOD (CWM)
Power off your phone and remove battery
Replace battery, hold volume down and power, bootloader will open.
Select recovery.
You should now be in clockwork mod.
TO GAIN ROOT ACCESS
download super user package here: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip and place on your SD
Boot into clockwork mod and choose install zip from SD
Then select the zip location for superuser file you placed on your sd and select it and confirm.
When done click back then reboot system.
You should now be rooted.
To check if you are, open your app drawer (all apps) and you should see a superuser icon.
You also install custom rom's this way (choose zip from SD etc).
Good luck!

For any info on any aspect of your ChaCha be sure to check Alex C's 'everything ChaCha' page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17396419
He's done a great job putting all the information needed in one place.
Whether you need help or info about battery life, s-off or custom roms that should be your first port of call.
PS. please don't make tons of pointless threads without actually searching current ones for an answer or you'll just make your forum a jumbled mess.

The RUU Updater is giving me a "model ID" error (possibly due to me having S-OFF/SuperCID via the XTC-Clip) - gonna try extracting the rom.zip from the RUU and applying it manually from the bootloader.
EDIT:: Manual application by extracting rom.zip and booting into bootloader got it to apply. Us people who are S-OFF via the XTC-Clip might need to do this to get it to apply. YMMV.

Can anyone confirm if this is also valid for the AT&T version of the Cha Cha, the HTC Status?

Awesome, guided.

unlocked ;-)
just follow the instructions

Will allow us this Unlocking free unlock-sim too?
Thx.

Unlocking the bootloader will NOT s-off your device.
You will be able to root and flash custom roms.
You won't be able to flash hboot or radios.
Your phone will not be network unlocked.
Your warranty will be voided, for any software related problems at least.

hi!! Is there any way to get it S-OFF, other than with the xtc clip ??

Why is that important to get it S-OFF?
With the bootloader unlocked you can flash custom ROM and have root access.

Not right now mate.
But it may be easier to find an exploit now.

I've a problem with the HBOOT update needed by Bootloader Unlock, it need 1.54 update, while i'm on 1.18 and Software Update don't show me any update possibility.
How can i proceed to update to 1.54 ?

You could try updating to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447330
Then try again.
You may have to create a gold card.

Ok, can we get a little help with the rooting process and custom Rom install after unlocking?
I don't think that we can apply the same process as for the S-OFF devices.
Edit - Found some useful info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449681&page=2

[Q] Unrooting back to stock

Hi. So this is what I have done so far..
1. Unlocked my bootloader using HTCDEV which unlocked my bootloader but kept S-On.
2. Then I flashed my recovery with 4Ext recovery.
3. Installed SU using that. Now I have super user privilages.
In the end, I have unlocked, rooted bootloader with HBOOT 2.00.0002 and S-On. I have taken back up of my current ROM.
From what I understand,
1. My phone is completely rooted.
2. To install a new ROM, I need to go to recovery in booloader and install from SD card.
3. I can revert to my old stock ROM using the back up I took earlier.
Please let me know whether I have got it right till here.
I went through beginner's guides and needed few things to clarify.
1. Will installing new ROM overwrite RUU ?
2. If yes, how do I back up RUU or Rom.zip before I flash with new ROM ?
3. Even though I restore back to my stock ROM. Will my super user privilages remain ?
4. If yes, how to remove them ? How to unroot ?
5. Can I restore to stock's recovery ?
In other words, can I COMPLETELY restore it back excluding unlocking? Please guide me with respect to Desire S.
Installing RUU will comletely restore your phone to stock, removing root as well. So basicly there is no point in backing it up.
Please note that when you unlocked with htcdev.com you will have to flash boot.img separately after installing any custom rom for the phone to boot.
Anyway, there are so many guides on this forum that unswers all your questions, don't see a point to start the new one here.

Thank you. And sorry for the new thread. I went through the guides. Just needed to confirm. These RUUs, are they fixed for a particular model and country? For example, this link provides some RUUs for Desire S for different countries. So RUUs for all the Desire S phones in that region are same, officially ?
Aah, this thread solved the problem that I've been thinking!
When I am going to sell my DS, only need to install correct RUU and it is fully stock again?

[Q] Possible to root on Sensation XE ICS

I am really a noob at rooting, though there are easy steps. However this confuses me. So if anyone can find a very good guide for rooting my Sensation XE running on ICS, that is noob-friendly.
EDIT: All I need to do is to downgrade my HBoot version to 1.17.xxxx - but I want to find the easiest way to do that.
EDIT2: I unlocked my phone's bootloader. Doesn't help with S-Off though. :/
I will have to wait for Revolutionary to update their tool so that my phone can S-Off (since my phone is 1.27.0000)
May I can downgrade my phone back to Gingerbread, but how? And it looks risky, will that can brick my phone?
I'll press the Thank button if your post is helpful enough.
I have found this to be a very useful guide with ICS https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KEQCpmcLGjbkeLmVU0mpLSwZvjNqLSAmNBqyKMus3Ag/edit?hl=en_US
You may also want to check youtube for the unlockr video tutorials, they typically refer back to xda, but will help if you need a visual reference.

Maybe you will try to use Unlock Bootloader from htcdev.com but I can't make sure because I already S-OFF before rooted. But if you find a way to S-OFF you may would like try method above which I use.
I hope you have been s-off before update because unrevoked won't support it right now. If it show LOCKED on bootloader, this is how I root my Sensation XE.
1. Unlocked the phone using htcdev.com account since no other's method seem possible right now. But if you device already unlock you do not have to do this.
Go to hTCDEV register, click "Unlock Bootloader" and follow the instruction.
2. Install custom recovery, since htc recovery won't flash/install flashble zip correctly. For this I use "Android Recovery Manager". Reboot the phone after unlocked process. Connect the phone with usb cable. Open the Android Recovery Manager > Start > ** Download a recovery ** > HTC Sensation > ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.0 (Pyramid) > follow the instruction on the software. If stuck when device reboot to flash hboot but not yet flash it because can recognised the FASTBOOT(Android Recovery Manager waiting for FASTBOOT). Take out battery, reconnect usb and boot to FASSBOOT.
3. Flash the supersu, as the Android Recovery Manager finish flash the ClockWorkMod you have to install Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip. If fail retry flash 2-3 times, but I am just done 1 time, before on GB I flash two time because fail at 1st time. And now you rooted and reboot your phone.
Try at your own risk.
Summary :
Download Android Recovery Manager and Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip, place the Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip on sdcard. Unlock the phone on htcdev.com, install custom recovery with Android Recovery Manager and flash the supersuser.
* use Superuser version 3.0.7 because the lower version won't support ICS. Use link given and download the right version.
I am using this method on Sensation XE, so try at your own risk. I will not responsible to anything happen. And please do make sure you backup your device first.
# Just hit the thanks button so I and other's will know this method also work for you ;p

[Guide] Root Official ICS ROM HBoot 1.27.000 Easely without S-Off

Good day my dear friends,
Boring Intro------
Yesterday I was trying to root my wife's HTC Sensation which I upgraded to Official Middle East ICS 4.0.3 hboot 1.27.000 and I found this way by pure luck-----
I installed CMW and did the rooting while the device is S-ON
I'm not sure if this is a new method or was done before but I thought I'd share it to return some of your favors in this great forum.
I need to thank Mr.hasoon2000 because we will use his tol from the HTC One X forum.
Requirements:
1. Download the HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit V1.0 from this link, Thanks Mr.hasoon2000 I hope you don't mind me using your tool here.
2. Download the latest CMW recovery , choose the latest for Pyramid (The Sensation) in *.img. Here is the CMW 5.8.0.9 link.
3. Download SuperSU 0.88.zip, thanks Mr.Chainfire or from this link [23.04.2012] SuperSU v0.88.
Step By Step Method:
1. Copy the SupperSU.zip file to your SD root.
2. Extract the HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit V1.0 to the Disktop.
3. Connect your Mobile and make sure you're in the charging mood and your check USB development or debugging option.
4. Run the One X.exe application.
5. Install the HTC drivers.
****If you unlocked your Sensation's bootloader from HTCdev.com then skip step 6 ****
6. Register in HTCdev.com website, choose Unlock Bootloader, choose your device and follow the instructions. ~This May Void your Warranty~
7. Rename the CWM recovery to CWM5827, then copy it to HTC One X All-In-One Toolkit folder/Data folder/recoveries and replace the one inside.
8. Flush the CWM recovery using the toolkit, horray you installed CWM.
9. From Commands choose Boot into recovery and from CWM flush the SuperSU.zip.
10. Congratulations, You're Now ROOTED .
Note: Sorry for My Bad English.
I would like to confirm the information above. Just rooted an unlocked EU version of Sensation XE running the 4.0.3 and hboot 1.27.000. Everything worked as supposed.
Kudos TheSnakeX!
This is how u do it on every Hboot. OLD news
And u dont have to use that ONE X tool.
Just HTCDEV unlock your phone (this whill void your waranty)
Download CWR in PG58IMG.zip
Extract the recovery.img from PG58IMG.zip
open command propt and do a "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Reboot your phone in recovery and flash SU
Done your root
I would thank all of you for your thanks and replays
I want to remind you that I said that I'm not sure if this was old news or new, but I can see that people are benefiting from this method.

just a question:choosing unlock bootloader from htc dev,I lost my warranty? Thanks
Not entirely. The HTC's disclaimer is interpretable. At least this is my take on that: if unlocking the bootloader you mess up your phone by overclocking it, they will make you pay for any repair. But if - let say- some buttons begin to malfunction they will repair under warranty because that would be manufacturing flaw. This will change of course ASAP someone will come with some straightforward noobproof method to undo the unlocking ;o)
My device just verified that my sensation has been rooted. Thank you, it's working on hboot 1.27.000
Htc Sensation Vodafone Turkey
Now ICS with S-On it only way for S-OFF and Root must be first is unlocked boot loader by office HTC_Dev so you may lost your warranty. Is it correct ?
Unlocking the bootloader might void your warranty.
Yet, I bricked my sensation long time ago, it was rooted and S-off. And when I took it to HTC care they replaced the motherboard on the warranty, which means that if they discover that it was unlocked (soft brick) they will not repair it otherwise they will.
If for example there was some other problem in your phone, and you still can log into your bootloader, then I think using the same method from HTCdev, you can relock your bootloader and reflush the RUU package.
For now we can root RUU ICS roms while S-ON using this method. To make it S-Off you need to see this thread [S-OFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF by Mr.globatron

This error occurs if you had your mainboard replaced by HTC. It causes an IMEI <-> SN missmatch or something similar.

HTCdev Unlock bootloader
HI,
I wonder if someone can give me confirmation for peace of mind..
I was reading through the small prints in the htc unlocker, and it says that all personal data and installed softwares will be erased to protect personal data by carring out the unlock procedure.
The very reason I wanted to root the phone was so that I could install clockworks and the likes that allow me to do full backup of the phone (and remove bloatware), and those software's requirement are that I am rooted.
IN order to root, I will lose everything installed on my phone? What about apps i have purchased through the market?
Does my google account somehow remember that I have purchased it before, and allow me to download the same apps again without charge?
Or is it that the unlocking procedure does not mess with my installed apps and all personal data?
I hope it is the latter, otherwise it means that people are going ahead with unlocks at the cost of hassle incurred from setting up your phone again....
Someone have simple answer?
Thanks
Finally found a way to get rooted, thank you very much!
Great Job and credits to all who helped get this to work.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Now rooted thanks to you!!!!
Many thanks
Can you install custom roms after applying this method?

Once you've unlocked the boot loader and installed a custom recovery such as Clockwork or 4ext, you can do what's called a nandroid backup which basically takes an image of your phone - software, apps, data, the lot - which means that if anything goes wrong you can just restore that and it'll be exactly how it was when you backed it up.
Rooting your phone in itself shouldn't mean that you have to re-install any apps. Rooting just means that you give yourself full access to your phone's system. However, if you decided to install a new ROM, you would then need to replace your apps and one of the most popular and best ways of doing this is with an app called Titanium Backup - there are others, but this is what I use and it's never failed me.
I have no knowledge of z4root. I used a guide on here somewhere to root my phone, via something called Revolutionary.
Hope that helps. :thumbup::thumbup:

no, unlocking bootloader doesnt unlock most partition (you cant flash firmware), S-OFF unlocks all partition (its like actually owning the phone)
so should i bother with the htc bootloader unlocker or just go straight to s-off?

I'd go straight to S-OFF because with the newer version of JuopunutBear S-OFF you dont need to have htcdev unlock
The JuopunutBear download is here and the guide you need to follow by ganeshp is here
Thankyou both very much,i shall continue my quest tomorrow as its a bit late to start all this now.
Here let me do some explaining for you. when you purchase your device it comes with the security on or what is referred to as S-ON. It also comes with a locked bootloader. Now what that means is that as long as you are S-ON you only have read permissions on the internal storage partitions of the device. The locked bootloader will not let you flash unsigned software to the device and it limits the fastboot and ADB commands you can use with the device. When you S-OFF your device you gain read and write permissions to all the partitions. But even after you S-OFF your device you still have to flash a unlocked bootloader or what is commonly called a eng Hboot to be fully unlocked as you can see by the above explanation.
Now to cover the difference between HTC Dev unlock and S-OFF via JuopunutBear. When you use HTC Dev unlock you gain write permissions to your system partition, recovery partition, and your boot partition. But unlike when you are full S-OFF and you just simply flash the ROM as one package via recovery. After using HTC Dev unlock you have to extract the boot.img and flash it via fastboot commands, or you can install 4EXT recovery and the 4EXT Recovery Updater app then enable Smart Flash to flash the boot.img. Now because you do not gain write permissions to all the partitions you can not flash splash screens, radios, or firmware packages when you use HTC Dev unlock.
Now to talk about root, when you root your device you essentially fully open up the line of communication between the OS and the Linux kernel. It allows the OS to have more access to hardware and to a certain extent software. This allows the user to get the full potential out of the device. Now to root the Sensation you just need to flash Superuser or SuperSU via recovery and then install BusyBox from the Google Play store. Now I had originally plained to go into further details and tell you what both are for but I will not right nowcause my stupid phone erased the original much longer post I had wrote when I went to another tab o my browser.
Go to Recognized Contributor malybru's stickie thread " A great starting point for all new Sensation owners" here in the Sensation General forum for links to everything you need to know.

Bugger! my HBOOT 1.27.0000 is not supported by revoloutionary what do i do now?
MikeDVH said:
Hope that helps. :thumbup::thumbup:

confused in how to instill leedroid 2.2.2

I have at&t inspire 4g and I unlocked the bootlaoder by EasyAceRootTool and I have read many guides how to downgrade to 1.3 and how to get s-off and eng-off to instill leedroid
and these are the sites which I tried
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-leedroid-android-rom-on-the-htc-desire-hd-inspire-4g/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
http://androidforums.com/inspire-4g...ally-downgrade-root-inspire-4g-desire-hd.html.
I attached the information about my at&t inspire 4g in the attachment files
You don't need S-Off to flash a custom ROM; an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery is sufficient. More details instructions in the Ace Think Tank thread linked in my signature.
EDIT: why did you start two threads within a couple hours??
thanx but

I'm lost cuz I read alot in many sites about how can I flash a custom rom and I faild to do it cuz almost pf the sites I read them . there are many missing files.and I'm new in theses things
plz
1- I have downloaded this rom and I want to instill it in my fone leedroid 2.2.2 in my fone
Can I download it
if so plz tell me the steps to do it
2- how can I make my fone works in another carrier
I will be thankful for you
I will delete the other thread
Like I said. Read the Ace Think Tank thread.
Hint: you need to flash a recovery from fastboot, then flash a ROM from recovery, then flash a boot.img from fastboot. And for carrier compatibility, you need to read the manual S-Off portion.
Inspire 4g update problem
Hello, I have an htc inspire 4g running OS 2.3.3 Gingerbread and I want to root it so I can flash custom rom but I need to downgrade the firmware first or else it wont work.
Other problem facing me is this that I need to flash in pd98img but when unfortunately bootloader is locked in my opinion because it is not detecting the img file.
When I tried to unlock the bootloader it says hboot update needed.
I need to know that how can I update the hboot of HTC inspire 4g.
I would be really thankful if I get a solution

Run a RUU that supports bootloader unlocking. If you do this with a PD98IMG.zip you need to put the file in the root of the SD card and name the zip exactly that.
Thanks for the reply.
I really appreciate it but please can you provide me with the link of the RUU because I was unable to find such RUU after several attempts.

Your RUU depends on which DHD software version you are running. If you can't find one you need to make s gold card and flash another version's RUU.

Why are you trying to get S-Off? I'm not willing to help other people with the manual S-Off method because I haven't done it personally and it's a method meant for advanced users who don't need help anyway; if you need help I advise that you stick to just unlocking your bootloader.
ADB and fastboot are two separate things. You can fastboot flash the boot.img without bricking the phone, yes. My signature has instructions for flashing the boot.img.
If the battery level fell, it fell...flashing stuff takes a lot of power. If you let it hang on the splash for awhile I could see it dropping 90%.

If it takes more than a minute, you probably didn't flash the boot.img.
Because I didn't understand the question. And still don't. With an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery, the procedure for flashing all ROMs is the same.
thanx

Another Problem
Hello, Now I am facing another problem.
The AAHK says that I have to downgrade my radio through flashing PD98IMG.ZIP but my bootloader is not detecting the file.
The effen-manual says that I have to relock my bootloader.
Now I am not sure that currently my bootloader is locked or unlocked? or else should I have to unlock it first through HTCDev and then relock it?
Please it has been 4 months I am trying to root but I couldnt find a solution.

AAHK is retired and unsupported. Just unlock the bootloader and fastboot flash a recovery. Then flash a ROM from recovery.
