Why do you care? 768 MB of RAM are there with one purpose only - to be used
;"http://www.rt-embedded.com/blog/archives/linux-memory-consumption" - A nice Article about Linux RAM management said:
Assuming there are no memory leaks, the reason that memory report tools report low amount of free memory is because the RAM is considered to be wasted if it isn’t used. This concept may require some time to digest, because conventional thinking may lead to the conclusion that an efficient system is a system with a lot of free memory. This is not entirely correct. In Linux case, the kernel tries to utilize the most of the RAM to improve the system performance. Keeping the cache means that if the kernel or a task needs the same data again, there’s a good chance it will still be in the fast cache in memory.

Taskkillers are not recommended to use on Android - there are a lot of threads about this If my memory recalls right it is mentioned also in the sticky Guide for Newcomers by wnp_79

I use androids built in task killer to kill some apps when they are not responding. But I don't use them in general use

hmm, I am far from the conclusion that we are making something terrible when killing apps (the important one are popping back on immediately after killing)
but I am absolutely against this automated so called "advanced" task killers that can kill random stuff, like your launcher for example (this happened to me in the past and I was very curious why my launcher just restarts occasionally ) or freeze the device

Good so far. I charged it over the night powered off, wiped the battery stats in the morning. battery dropped 15 % for the past 16 hours. Performance is great. Reaper governor, 921 MHz max, 184 MHz min, UV all to -50
But I had disabled all the monitoring stuff so only time will tell. (my target is to get back my 5 days - As far as I remember it was with Tiamat 1.1.3 and the next version were not so good, but I am not sure)
P.S.: is it just me or on this compilation of OC/UV beater awake and sleep governors cannot be set simultaneously (for one profile)?

Exciting to hear, and certainly more legitimate than the dumb 780mhz hoax.
Edit: LOL, Z҉A҉L҉G҉O̚̕̚'s picture is hilarious.
Don't be expecting much out of it.....
"increases application execution speed by up to three times"
That REALLY is NOT that hard to do. You will note that they do NOT say 3-times across the board! It means that they found at least ONE glitch somewhere where something was running slower than it had to, and in THAT CASE, it results in a speedup with a factor of 3. Note that this particular speedup might result in a SLOW DOWN somewhere else (if they are morons). Second, this "Myriad" doesn't make me feel at all warm or fuzzy -- it feels like proprietary locked-in type nonsense. You know, they kind where this group of douchebags is trying to take over the entire platform by intentionally introducing proprietary incompatibilities.

major performance boost or no, work like this is what makes Android great. This is the OHA at work to get the most out of every device and I, for one, am very pleased at this (pre-)announcement.

No it isn't. This is just some proprietary junk. If it were OHA at work, you'd see contributions being pushed back to the AOSP, which I guarantee you will NOT see here. All this is is a private fork of AOSP/dalvik that those douchebags are trying to SELL.
Myriad whosawhatsit is a founding member of the OHA, folks. I don't know what, precisely, this "Dalvik Turbo" is -- but I //do// know that Myriad was one of the companies involved in developing Dalvik itself. They specialize in virtual machine development.
I //suspect// that this is some special JIT process. But they then turn around and claim that the memory signature impact is low as well. So... who can say?
Sweet deal, buuuut.....
this should be interesting, it seems to me that we have an influx of tools, mods, scripts and hacks and no real new roms. I guess its in part due to the fact that too much is coming out too quick for it to all get implemented. We'll see how it goes.... Hopefully in the next couple weeks we'll see this and all the overclocking hacks integrated into some cool new roms.
So if the processor isn't REALLY being pushed to 780....why does the heat increase? And if lowered, it decreases in temperate. How about the actual increases in speed...I have x2 G1's, and have physically used SuperD 1.8 on both, one at normal 528, the other are 700. Simple actions like moving through the app drawer (that both have 150 apps), the 700 moves much quicker, and isn't choppier. I've been playing with all sorts of actions on the G1, such as the launcher scrolling, playing video, etc, and the one clocked at 700 out performs every single time.
So you're saying everything I just mentioned is in my head? I'm not saying its a monumental increase, but there is a clear difference.

No need to speculate about this as we will see one way or the other next week at MWC. Also guys lets not drag the OC debate into this thread as it's OT and there is enough flame in the thread dedicated for it.
I miss some facts for the "turbo vm".
it could be:
- optimize code (3x faster only with special benchmark...)
- jit compiler (longer startup times)
- jit + store the compiled code (seen on IBM mainframes)
- hot spot compiler (like the actual sun jvm)
I get a

hi guys i just flashed my G1 wit the hero rom but it lags a lot and the applications don't load fast so how would i speed it up i have 2.1 firmware.
I assume you have King's or Eugene's Eclair hero/espresso?
If your comparing it to a Donut rom then thats why you might think its slow. Also having 200+ apps open if too much so you should get a task killer. If you dont have a swap partition then that might be adding to the slowness. The 2.1 hero from King is as fast as a donut so unless you have alot of widgets it should be fine.
Question in a development forum + Not enough research done + Ignorance of Search bar = Junior Member.
Whts done is done. So u cud flash one with a 10mb hack. Try a 1.5 sense, cuz the eclair has no gpu acceleration as of yet so perhaps thats why you are finding it slow. Use a taskmanager to frequently close running applications. overclock to the max using a market app such as overclock widget or setcpu.

Same processor and same RAM, why would a myTouch be any faster? I'll put my overclocked G1 up against a MT3G any day of the week.
That leads me to my next point about making a Hero ROM faster. I would definitely install SetCPU, overclock it, and decrease the CPU usage at which it will upscale it's speed. That dramatically increases performance.

But if you have thres hold too low it will scale when not needed. If battery life is a concern you want it to 50-65. If you have a 2600mah bat then go ahead and try 20-50.Dont make it 528 all the time either, use 128 while sleep and 128-528 while on charger or batt.

class 6 sd card, 96mb swap and MLIGN's.
Kingklicks is quite fast, but I dont think it is as fast as MLIGN's. Definitly not trying to say who is better or does more work. Hell, MLIGN only does the hero ROM and older firmware at that.
So I have seen a few roms released in the last week, but I keep thinking to myself "When will there be a rom that's targeted to optimize battery?" If one of the awesome devs could come up with something that does just this that would be amazing.

HOW?!?! I get a max of 12 to 13 on heavy usage.
If anyone does do this, I find that I get great battery life now after trying the CDMA/GSM fix (cant find the link).
Might wanna be something to look into for future ROMs. (From what I remember, the glitch shows the phone as looking for GSM networks while it's connected to a CDMA network. I followed the instructions to correct this and it's had a positive impact on my battery life. Getting near double the life now).
You guys are on 3G aren't you? I don't even get 2 hours on 4G with medium heavy usage.

8-14 on moderate use to heavy is all you are going to be getting. I doubt you'll see a rom aimed only at battery life. Find a rom with sense removed (there are a few of them) or asop and further remove junk you don't use especially the social network **** and enjoy.

You really don't even need an app from the market like the guy suggests in that thread. If you just dial *#*#INFO#*#*, then go to Phone Information, then scroll down to 'Set preferred network type' and select CDMA auto (prl) from the list.

what software is that use to show the CPU and Battery usage.

Actually that CDMA/GSM fix, can it be applied through a rom? I'm pretty sure that's a built in phone setting where you have to dial through the keypad. Regardless, think of it this way. Processors and memory run off of voltage. The more it's in use the more power it will take. Now undervolting and underclocking the CPU is an obvious fix but also the memkiller settings. The more memory that is in use the more power is being taken up. This is why AOSP has better battery life than Sense under the same circumstances. With a more aggressive memkiller you can further increase battery life. I am going to build aggressive settings in my next release of my rom but for custom settings you can always get Autokill from the Market, assuming your phone is rooted of course.
I'm getting FANTASTIC battery life on the latest Fresh ROM.

Haven't tried setCPU, though it does look nicer.
And SystemPanel, which is excellent.

Has setcpu been updated with native evo support, or are people still rocking N1 settings?
You get OC Widget by searching "overclock widget" in the Market. However, I don't see the need for it since the EVO automatically scales the CPU clock, and we can't overclock.

And SystemPanel, which is excellent.

You get OC Widget by searching "overclock widget" in the Market. However, I don't see the need for it since the EVO automatically scales the CPU clock, and we can't overclock.

I guess i should have tried spelling out overclock instead of OC (DUH).. lol, and i have heard that, and have no doubt that it is true, but some people are claiming it has given them some improvement in battery life... Maybe its just a placebo effect, but i am gonna run a few tests and see what i can come up with....
I read a post on another forum from a guy that sounded like he REALLY knew what he was talking about and said the same thing you did but with some pretty big words and tech talk to back it up. But hey.. its free, and i like trying new stuff... even if its so i can see it for myself that it doesnt do anything.
Am I the only one that realizes overclock widget and setcpu don't work on our phones? I have tried both on 3 different ROMs and checked through a adb shell the cpu usage while the phone was asleep and neither one works no matter what I set the programs to.
Awesome, I've officially made it >24 hours on a single charge! (Though I did plug it into my laptop for 3 minutes to transfer some stuff)
Started the monitor with a little less than 90%, and now I'm at 8%

Using the GPS for 15 minutes drained it the most, compared to other apps.
We've all had our SGS's for a while now, and I was wondering how people are feeling on particular combinations of kernals and mods. I recently upgraded to ICS and I love the features, but I'm missing the good battery life I had with the Adrenaline Shot Gingerbread mod. So, given any combination of platform, kernal, undervolting levels, etc, what have you found makes for the longest battery life?

I think the best ics rom is code name 2.0 in combination with the new hefe Kernel because of the battery life. If you like a lot of customization but want to keep a good battery life I recommend beam rom. (Battery life of beam is actually almost on par with code name) But I happen to look for apps to customize rather than within the rom so I use apex beta for the jelly bean looks and gestures rather than the cm9 themes for instance with codename and it doesn't take a toll on battery. The other thing to point out tho is the on screen issue. Code name is great for battery when its on standby mode (screen is in sleep mode) but like any other rom in ics or gb its pretty lousy when the screen is actually on so that's where apps like screen dimmer come in handy because they dim the screen beyond factory limit and save battery even during when the screen is on. Also remember to calibrate any rom and let it drain then recharge it all the way and bla bla bla if you don't know these steps you can look it up in the q&a forums.

I'm honestly surprised that an ICS mod could get more performance than a GB mod. I shall try your combo!

OP really any of the ICS flavors with hefe kernel added will be good.

No I don't think so, from personal use I know that some Roms have 70% before rebooting the phone but once I restart it, i notice it drains to 30% or less. This usually happens on a newly flashed rom. Calibration fixes this issue for me at least.

Sorry i thought you meant on ics specifically. Battery life wise valhalla black by far is the best for battery it could probably last 3 days on one charge. Im not sure if theres a better froyo rom but it would make sense. The hefe kernel would be the best for gb or ics

Can I be on the approved advice giver list? If so here's some advice. Everyone has their own idea of what the best combo is for them. All of these best threads are kinda useless. It's like asking 100 guys who the hottest looking actress or model is. Your gonna get at least 50 different responses. Just try different ROM/kernel combos for a few days each and see what one best suites your needs.

What you are seeing is not calibrating the battery. You are deleting the battery stat file. All that does is start over with no stats in the file. Draining a lithium ion battery to a dead state decreases the life of the battery more then it will help it.

Well, this is a forums where we discuss things. So I figured I'd ask people what they like!
Anyone have an opinion on Gingerbread mod/kernel combo's? I'm trying to use a Sony MN800 with my phone (for motorcycle riding) and ICS apparently has problems with the MN800 bluetooth functionality.
The hottest-looking actress really isn't that far off as an analogy. You may assume that each of our phones act similarly, compared to other SGS4Gs using the same software, but that simply isn't true. There have been plenty of cases here that I've seen where the majority of users couldn't replicate an issue a certain user or users have experienced, which typically means that the discrepancy is in the hardware. Statistically, you should be fine, but you should also take advice with a grain of salt.

I guess expediency is the name of the game for me here, to be honest. I don't have days and days to try out the best combinations, as I am leaving for a weekend trip in a couple of days. I wanted to see what people have had amazing success with, so that I may stand a chance of having my phone be my motorcycle music player all weekend .
I've just set the governor to Smartass V2 in Codename 2.0 + Hefe, as I've heard that's a good one for battery life. What about battery voltage adjustments?
I think its safe to say -50 on each level should be safe. Not sure what kind of bike you have but maybe a hidden power outlet and a charger cord tucked away.
For anybody that has tried AntonX's Barebones - I believe would tell you that is your best bet to play it safe. I use it one of my phones with LightningZap with great results... it is my 'safe' phone when I need everything to work properly.
Hechoen - I'd take your advice any day.

Thanks for the input! However, I'm not quite sure what -50 on each level means for Codename 2.0. The interface in Codename 2.0 is a voltage slider that starts at the default of zero and increases (to seemingly huge numbers). I don't see a way to gauge what the real voltage levels are and whatnot, so as to set lower levels.
Here's the Hefe Kernel values -- they are 25 mV lower than the stock T959V values, yet still 25 mV higher than the I9000 (Galaxy S).
My phone has been pretty happy at an additional 75 mV lower, O/C to 1200 MHz, smartassv2 with target awake frequency at either 600 MHz (as-compiled), or occasionally I've been messing with 400 Mhz. Every phone is different, so what works for me may not work for you.
Code:
unsigned int freq_uv_table[FREQ_SIZE][3] = {
//freq, stock, current
{1400000, 1400, 1400},
{1300000, 1375, 1375},
{1200000, 1350, 1350},
{1100000, 1325, 1325},
{1000000, 1300, 1300},
{900000, 1250, 1250},
{800000, 1225, 1225},
{600000, 1200, 1200},
{400000, 1075, 1075},
{200000, 1000, 1000},
{100000, 975, 975}
};

Hello,
I am using Viper Rom and Sultan Kernel, when I try to play a game after few minutes the phone stucks and restarts.
I try to underclock 1080 Hz but that doesnt fix the problem.
Does anyone know why or how to fix it? Is this Kernel or Rom problem?
What kernel do you suggest me so to play without any problems?
help me please
thanks in advance
Is your phone overheating? If it isn't it might be the game's compatibility problem.
Try this, use ondemand, sio, no swaps, overclock to 1188.
Give thanks and feedback if it works.
i think that vipers is the worse rom for games try hyper non sense and you will see difference, i also get reboots while playing games, but with hypernon sense never get problem, you can install a lot of apps and customize it yourself without a lot of bugs.

Maybe is kernel problem?
Can someone with HtcSensation on Viper who can play without problem can tell me what kernel to use?
I think most likely its the game compatibility.
I've played NFS most wanted once.
after 1 hours of gaming, phone got extremely hot, rebooted itself.
Since I rarely play more than an hour, this is the only time it happened.
How long did you play?

You have a lot of background apps that use cpu, I can't play nfsmw, without 1080. Because my device get hot, I also use games for 1 hour.
Inviato dal mio HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e usando XDA Premium HD app
Maybe there's too many background apps. And your minfrees are too low. They stack up then minfrees cant handle all of them, causing starvation then reboots.
Because I like flashing my device wont stay in the same rom for longer than a week. So I really don't know how laggy a device can go.
I underclock both GPU and CPU to the state it wont get too hot.
hey there, lack of enough space on ram/swap causes that. there are a lotta background apps simultaneously running, that's why. close'em if u can, otherwise, use a swap drive (sd card swap/cache swap ~ prefer cache one if u don't use a sense based rom, because sense is heavier than AOSPs, so that it'll need more space). because I'd got that problem as well, took it over though.
by the way, if the game u mentioned is GTA Vice city, then am gonna tell u that it is not compatible with Adreno 220 GPU chips, tht's why jumps out causing a reboot.
although that lack of RAM did not cause me to reboot, it just hung so I could not do anything except a manual Reboot. (I mean pulling the battery out )

Your phone probably can't handle GPU overclocking or you're undervolting. How much did you undervolt and what did you set the 2D and 3D GPU speeds to?
Also, in order for the phone to turn off due to heat, the CPU would have to get hotter than 76°C. Water boils at 100°C, so if the phone was indeed over 76°C then touching it would burn your hand.
First, it is not game problem beacause it restarts with any game I play for about 5-10 minutes.
I try to play after I restart my device (so to not have apps running in background) but it happens the same. Also sometimes restarts without get hotter. It is so strange.
I try to underclock Gpu 2d 3d, and clock at 1.188 Ghz without undervolting at all but it happen the same thing.
I try also with AOKP rom but still happen the same....
I will give a try ashkan-khatar solution to swap drive and I hope it works. I don't know what else to do.
thank you all anyway

i found ur solution i think...
dont make that swap i said, make a hard swap, in this way:
download and install miniTool partition wizard home edition, then copy all your sd card to your pc and delete your sd card's partition using that program and repartition it with maintaining 512mb for swap, i mean in case your sd is 16gb, then create 14243.01mb fat32 partition as Primary, then define 512mb Linux Swap as Primary again. then put your stuff on the sd and re-insert it. afterwards, go here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630095 and download v2.3 of the script and flash it in recovery, my phone has got really fast since then!!!
of course i don't think whether it's a good idea on sense roms regarding speed, but give it a shot! i'm really satisfied with my phone now!

EDIT: again it's me mate u know, actually since i want everything on my device to be perfect, i don't wanna see some1 having such a horrible problem!
anyway, i tried to drive my phone crazy up enough to see whether it misbehaves or doesn't, in this way:
I overclocked to 1782MHz, selected Performance governor and opened up TTPod and played music. then opened such a heavy game like Modern Combat 4 and started to play (My kernel was Sultan r20 whilst).
it was smooth at first, but then after about 5 min, suddenly it got stuck and rebooted on its own. {I was freakin' out at that time }
In fact, I used to guess that it was because of overheating [since it had happened before, in AnTuTu]. In summary, I tried once more (I think after several times of rebooting, do not remember accurately indeed) with exactly the same situation after a while. But this time, it did weird! :S As it got stuck, but didn't reboot, everything was stuck while the phone was completely unusable at all, neither rebooted, nor let me to reboot it. So pulled out the battery and booted into recovery and after sometime chilling with it, now my phone has got Super XE 4.1.2 Build 9 with its own Kernel, and now when I tried at the temperature of quite above average I think, but it worked like charm! :-O It did NOT even lag a little at the music playback! Thus,
Conclusion: "I" THINK the problem relates to the kernel. Try out what I said and inform me.

Watchdog detected an error and reset the SOC. I'm not really sure what caused the error, but there was some audio stuff above the the error have to do with q6adm, (this is just a guess) so maybe that's what Watchdog means by Q6. Do you have any sound mods installed?
If we can't solve this then the best thing to do is a fresh install of the ROM you're using.

Thank you too android1234567 for trying to solve my prob. I don't think has something to do with sound because I didn't install any sound mods and I don't use the music player Or something else to play sounds in background, bu it is very strange error :s
I will try fresh install of the Rom and of your kernel.
I will leave all default options and try again.
hi again! LOL
believe me I've been trying to find wt's causing that weird problem, and finally i deduced that it's somewhat related to the rom, and on the other hand, when u overclock GPUs, I mean both 2d and 3d, the phone will go up in temp too sooner than normal, and at the higher temps, the cpu will overheat and while the max freq is about 1.7GHz and used in the time, so it'll cause reboot. change 3d to 266mhz n 2d to 200mhz then tey again, i hadnt got any issues even with 1728mhz max using sultan kernel.
besides, i do recommend u to install super XE 4.1.2 build 9

that pretty "thanks" button's waiting for u in case I helped
