[Q] Having trouble updating my Droid: Any Ideas? - Droid 2 Global General

I've gone through the search etc
Trying to update my D2G from Froyo to Gingerbread. I've gone through OTA which just fails, and have tried doing it manual to 4.5.607 and 4.5.608 and the only thing I get is this message in the BootLoader
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/BackupAssistanceClient.apk", 'bc0f1688b9da24ef0a989c560a7faac9a90db018", '9fc085780f84b2d09e965bd38952143674156c02")
.E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip

Any ideas?

looks like BackupAssistance is missing or doesn't match original
did you delete original apps? or freeze with titanium backup
if you used bootstrap you need to remove the changes it made logwrapper
I just sbfed back to 2.4.29 then updated
just need to back up data

or this one

So it's alright to go back to .29 from .330?

you can sbf .330 too, just many find .29 more stable
I've used .330 with no problems

I'll go with .29 since you recommended it-ish haha, just wanted to be sure that it wouldn't end up bricking the phone.

Also I can't get any of the files from MyDroidWorld even though my account has been made etc. I haven't gotten an activation email or anything

Can be hard to find I'll look

Got RSD already, was having trouble with my MDW account, thanks a lot for all the help

You can flash 4.5.608 via SBF now, though.

Where can I find that sbf file then?

If I were you I'd SBF back to 2.2 then download the Full SBF 2.3.2 and flash it. At least that is what I did.
Alright, maybe a stupid question, but do I have to root and go back to factory settings in order to flash this?
I have Fission 1.2.1 installed right now, do I have to go back to install this? Will I lose all data / saved stuff?

I read that the update isn't working because I deleted the apps and what not. So if I sbf back to 2.2 without the original apps in the system will it do what it did before when it failed when trying to update to 2.3.2?

I couldn't get mine to SBF back to 2.2 so I did a stock recovery and wiped data/factory reset and wiped cache. Then I tried to SBF 2.2 and it worked so I went on and flashed 2.3.2

Nothing is different. You can root the same way as before. Check on this section and there are threads on how to root.

Hey all. When the 2.3.2 update was released, my Droid 2 was trying to automatically download and update but it failed the update every time. Maybe because I'm rooted and I had removed several of the B.S. apps I didn't want. So I downloaded the full SBF and used RSD Lite to update it. Everything went smoothly. Now I have an issue where several times a day I'll get a toast entitled "Info: Download of update failed." If I go to settings > about phone > system updates I get a toast that says "An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete" followed by the download failed notification.
It seems like the phone is still trying to download the update even though I already have it. Any idea how to stop the automatic download? I already tried rebooting the phone with no luck. Any suggestions are appreciated!

My only suggestion is that your phone still wants to update. If you were to wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset I would think the problem would be gone.
You can Flash straight to this SBF. I started playing with roms after I got the update and basicly bricked my phone I was at the M screen or a boot loop just after and just flashed straight to 2.3.2 and it worked fine.

Quick ? for an expert as I have the Dinc and my GF just got the Droid 2. Since rooting is totally different I want to confirm things so I don't bork hers. She just got it so it has the newest update already and I have it rooted and bootstrap recovery loaded on it but to get it deoxeded to I just use this from MDW? Help
I don't know if I need to post this here or not. I somehow messed up my phone. I didn't use any sbf and or rsd lite before i rooted my phone. But I was upgrading a rom from rubix 1.8.6 to the 1.8.9 and messed it up. It was stuck at M icon forever then i started messing around with the bootloader and reading these boards. I tried flashing the sbf 2.2 and all that stuff, and couldn't get it out of boot loader. I then tried the 2.3 sbf and now it says low battery, corrupt file..... please help on how i can fix this. I am a noob when it comes to this and any help would greatly be appreciated.

You need to get a charged battery and then you can try flashing the 2.3.2 SBF again(Droid 2 only). The phone won't charge unless your phone has software on it so you need to find somebody with another D2 or a D1 or an external battery charger to get a battery with full or near full power. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804088 Read through this tutorial even if you are flashing in windows. It's got everything you need to know about SBF flashing (more for linux but the fixes at the bottom are for anytime you flash an SBF).
If you mess up an install it's always better to try and get into clockwork because unless you really messed up the install you can just get back in to clockwork and re-install and you should be fine. The best way to get into clockwork is to:
1.Shut off phone(battery pull if you need to and wait about 15 seconds so that it doesn't just boot up again).
2.(with phone completely off) plug the phone into the wall charger.
3.Now turn on your phone. (if you get the battery charge screen just press power again)
4.(wait a bit) Now you should be in Clockwork recovery.(if that didn't work try it a few more times.)

[Q] In need of assistance with ICS -> GB

I have searched but found no specific instructions on how to do this, other than use Odin and the firmware file from SamMobile.com. I have downloaded both of these but now I don't know what to do. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would give me the rest of the instructions. Thanks in advance.
follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348
simply use the sammobile .tar instead of the k0nane listed in the thread.
Also...fyi: I just did this the other day...if you get lots of "force close" go to "settings"..."privacy"..."factory data rest"
that should get you back to stock...2.3.5
if you want to get back to 2.3.6, you can perform "software update" for OTA from ATT.
I was having lots of connectivity issues with ICS leaks, so I went back to GB too.
Thanks for the quick reply! Giving it a try now

Thanks. I'm also going back to gb today cause of the threat of phones being bricked by theses leaks. I know our phone was not mentioned but it said possible others to. I just don't want to take that chance on bricking and having a very expensive paperweight.

Could you just use a nandroid backup to go back to GB? I'm thinking of going back to GB. The keyboard lag with Swype annoys me too much on ICS.

The only issue with using the nandroid backup to go from ICS --> GB would be that the modem is not included in the backup, and therefore would not be restored. I'm not sure the ICS modems will work once the GB nandroid backup is restored.
If anyone can confirm or deny the above, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
If your concern is the bug reported in the ICS leaks then a full restore to GB would be what you want to do.
Use the Sammobile tar.
This thread (as previously pointed out) has the instructions for flashing the tar. You should read it completely.
This post in the thread explains that you have to extract the files from the zip you DL from Sammobile and then flash the file ending in .md5 with Odin. Partial quote:

Using a nandroid BU does not install all of the original files. As pointed out one thing not replaced by the nandroid is the radio. To get back completely to stock using the Sammobile tar and Odin appears to be the best way.

OTA ICS update "The software update failed"

I have a stock rooted Atrix 2. I rooted it literally yesterday (10/9/12) using the once-click method by jimmy's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327741). I have tried to update to ICS with wifi 3 times already. My last attempt, I unrooted the phone, removed bootstrap and even factory reset it. I still get "The software update failed."
What am I doing wrong here? I know there are a few others who are having this problem, but with all the problems in one single thread, it is hard to find an exact answer.

You had the A2 bootstrap installed? That's the problem if you didn't remove the files from the /system/bin folder.. if it was the A2 Bootstrap from here, then do this:
-Go to manage apps and clear data and uninstall the A2 Bootstrap app
-Go to /system/bin and delete hijack and logwrapper files
-Rename logwrapper.bin to logwrapper (also in /bin folder)
-Reboot

You will need to re-root.. but just being rooted should not affect your OTA install. Also, if you do have root, go and check /cache/recovery/last_log to see why the install fails exactly.

I just flashed back to 2.3.5. then updated to 2.3.6. OTA and currently right now I am downloading the OTA ICS. If flashing back to 2.3.5. then updating to 2.3.6. to 4.0.4. I will try your method. To be honest, I am new to rooting and what not. I have done so lightly in the past, 2 years ago, but I'm back at it.
Okay I fixed it...on the 5th update. After flashing back to stock rom to 2.3.5 with RSD, then OTA to 2.3.6. then finally OTA to ICS 4.0.4! ICS is pretty awesome. I am really happy with it

You will need to get RSDlite and flash the phone again with 2.3.5 to STOCK. Then just update to 2.3.6 and finally 4.0.4.
If you are in ICS leak 2 you need to downgrade "ICS TO GB" with Jim's tool. It has the .bat file to do so in cmd or you can also use the same file and flash with RSD.

^That will cause soft-bricks. DO NOT use Jim's tool if you are on ICS leak#2 or soak test or final ICS (all the same).

Right... and that leads me to another point (not directed directly at you, of course): If anyone who has installed the ICS leak#1 ota package later flashes a ROM from the dev section based on Leak#2 or Final ICS, that changes nothing in terms of the bootloader - and you are still on Leak#1, and you may use jim's fxz/script package to downgrade to GB.

Hoping someone that has been successful can point me in right direction.

I dont have the update, but the interwebs says its real. http://android-jellybean.com/2013/01/motorola-photon-q-receiving-minor-ota-update-software-version-asa-14/ and unfortunately, its not JB. Which makes me wonder if we will ever get it. OTAs are usually few and far in between for non-prime devices.
VICODAN, do you still own your Q or did you go back to the shift? This may be the 3G fix we've been waiting for! fingercrossed.....
No Update here, Checked Seconds ago, will keep checking. Wondering if ota is blocked one Bootloader is unlocked?,
EDIT: Also wondering if there is a way/place to get it from Motorola/sprint directly and put it in..

No update as of yet.
I read this thread this morning after receiving my THIRD photon Q in a month. This one came with 77.8.10 asa-10 on it already, I have been checking for updates and nothing. According to Sprint website all updates should be received within 14 days of update release.:silly:
There is a chance that root can be removed as part of the update. If you unlocked your boot loader then you can just reflash SuperSU/Superuser. If you used a non warranty voiding method to obtain root there is a chance that loophole has been patched.
You can try installing OTARootKeeper to backup root, temp unroot the phone, apply the update, then restore root.
For the first Photon Q update you can also follow its old thread and read some of the issues people had trying to update it, very similar things could pop up with this one too.

If you have any custom recovery (CWM or TWRP), make sure you flash stock recovery back too before trying to download and apply the new update. People ran into issues trying to install the first update back in November without reverting back to pure stock status.

Yes, that's the one the OP was posting about in the first place

Totally read your first post wrong, my apologies
Not a problem at all, I skim things fast and misunderstand things all the time myself lol.
Just installed my update, running smooth!

I also just installed my OTA update. Not noticing any difference and still 4.0.4 of course. Still feels about the same to me.

I just got the update but haven't installed b/c I'm at work. [Q] I know I need to flash stock recovery but do I also need to restore my stock nandroid backup or with the update still install even though I have modded it some?

just installed the small update. one thing i notice is that the data connection doesnt die when a phone call is made like it used too (since it can do data during a call). So far, the data icon has not disappeared yet either which always really pissed me off as it always seemed to happen when i needed to look something up in a pinch.
PythonFanTN is spot on when saying to make sure you go back to stock recovery first. This update will not apply with TWRP 2.3.3.0. (likely any)
You need to restore stock, odexed, unrooted nandroid and the stock recovery.img before taking the update. Otherwise you will likely soft brick your phone or get stuck in a boot loop.

i was rooted and it updated without issue. i was using the root from the atrix forum that covered several devices. Unfortunately, it removed root and this method no longer works for me so i ca not re-root with it. hope something new comes out soon.
Yeah, being rooted shouldn't affect it, or at least it didn't with the first update we got past launch stock...but of course you'll be unrooted again after the update.

Revert back to 12.7.7

Just wondering if anyone has tried to FXZ back after accepting the Update?

Had to do this, but it wasn't intentional. I had to take out specific lines in the XML file to get it to work. The first few lines caused errors so I had to delete them and start at factory.img command to get it to work. I have the edited file if you'd like me to post it. I was messing around with my dev edition and something went wrong and likely I figured out how to restore to stock with the edited file.
What are the odds it will work with a consumer edition?

My guess is it should work. The xml file is the stock img, recovery, data, boot, etc for both the dev and consumer editions. I must say that what I did wasn't intentional and wasn't something I wanted to happen. If you are on the update and want to go back to 12.7.7 you could try this, but if something would happen to go wrong you could potentially brick your phone. It seems unlikely though as I thought I bricked mine and editing the file did indeed return me to 12.7.7 and I flashed the update zip from stock recovery as I had before.
Well I would like to see the edited file if you dont mind

I deleted everything down to the boot.img. The prior commands come up with an error that I believe is some sort of security or files out of place that doesn't allow you to drop down to a lower firmware. If you are going to try this my suggesting would be to try the full xml and see if you get errors. If you do then try the way I did.
I'll be curious to see how it works for you. This could come in handy to people if they accidentally cause a boot loop. Once the files for 12.15.15 are released they won't have to do this.

I can confirm it doesn't work if the update actually completes. Once the system partition is updated, there's no going back.

This is what I'm talking about further up in the thread. I was messing around and honestly can't remember what I specifically did but basically I updated to 12.15.15, bricked my phone into a boot loop, and assumed I couldn't do anything until they release the xml file for the update. I tried to 12.7.7 xml file and at first it didn't work. The first few commands give you an error basically saying some sort of security or files won't allow you to drop down to the old firmware. Unfortunately I don't know the exact wording of it. But I edited the xml file to only run the commands from boot.img down which I posted in this thread. Now I do have a dev maxx. I mean I could try it again, but I'd rather not as I have my phone all set up after having to restore to stock.

Sorry I can't give more specific details, as I said I didn't intend to do all this so it wasn't something I thought I'd need to remember. I don't post much on here to begin with but I thought what happened to me and how I fixed it could potentially help someone else.

That's cool I wouldn't expect you to try again I think you having a dev phone is what allowed you to do it anyway. I tried to fastboot the system image and it wouldnt take.

Okay, I thought maybe that had something to do with it. I wouldn't suggest trying it to people anyway cause I was really worried I did brick my phone.

Were you actually running 12.15.15 for a period of time, or did the bootloop occur during the update?
If you were actually running it, then my only conclusion is that the dev edition ignores the partition version check.
I don't recommend anyone on a consumer version try this.

Must be a dev edition thing then. Mine fails on system version checks for boot, recovery, and system. 2 of those 3 are apparently important.

Yeah it must be. Once they release the xml for 12.15.15 I might be willing to try this again to record the errors to see why I was able to do it. I don't want to do it now because I don't want to take the risk that it won't work.
