Firmware Update ASA14 - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Who have receive the new update ASA14? And have copied from cache to sdcard?
I don't see the update, my phone is up2date with ASA10.
...Tapatalk

I dont have the update, but the interwebs says its real. http://android-jellybean.com/2013/01/motorola-photon-q-receiving-minor-ota-update-software-version-asa-14/ and unfortunately, its not JB. Which makes me wonder if we will ever get it. OTAs are usually few and far in between for non-prime devices.
VICODAN, do you still own your Q or did you go back to the shift? This may be the 3G fix we've been waiting for! fingercrossed.....

No Update here, Checked Seconds ago, will keep checking. Wondering if ota is blocked one Bootloader is unlocked?,
EDIT: Also wondering if there is a way/place to get it from Motorola/sprint directly and put it in..

Will this effect root?

No update as of yet.
I read this thread this morning after receiving my THIRD photon Q in a month. This one came with 77.8.10 asa-10 on it already, I have been checking for updates and nothing. According to Sprint website all updates should be received within 14 days of update release.:silly:

There is a chance that root can be removed as part of the update. If you unlocked your boot loader then you can just reflash SuperSU/Superuser. If you used a non warranty voiding method to obtain root there is a chance that loophole has been patched.
You can try installing OTARootKeeper to backup root, temp unroot the phone, apply the update, then restore root.
For the first Photon Q update you can also follow its old thread and read some of the issues people had trying to update it, very similar things could pop up with this one too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966998

If you have any custom recovery (CWM or TWRP), make sure you flash stock recovery back too before trying to download and apply the new update. People ran into issues trying to install the first update back in November without reverting back to pure stock status.

I just got the update but haven't installed b/c I'm at work. [Q] I know I need to flash stock recovery but do I also need to restore my stock nandroid backup or with the update still install even though I have modded it some?
Sent from my XT897 using Tapatalk 2

just installed the small update. one thing i notice is that the data connection doesnt die when a phone call is made like it used too (since it can do data during a call). So far, the data icon has not disappeared yet either which always really pissed me off as it always seemed to happen when i needed to look something up in a pinch.

PythonFanTN is spot on when saying to make sure you go back to stock recovery first. This update will not apply with TWRP 2.3.3.0. (likely any)

You need to restore stock, odexed, unrooted nandroid and the stock recovery.img before taking the update. Otherwise you will likely soft brick your phone or get stuck in a boot loop.

i was rooted and it updated without issue. i was using the root from the atrix forum that covered several devices. Unfortunately, it removed root and this method no longer works for me so i ca not re-root with it. hope something new comes out soon.

Yeah, being rooted shouldn't affect it, or at least it didn't with the first update we got past launch stock...but of course you'll be unrooted again after the update.

I just got the pop-up too, and have no idea! ? Going to check Motorola's web site to see if I can find out. Not sure it's worth it for me to unroot!
Anyone know if there is a way to root 3.2.1 yet???
Got the update too, am I correct in thinking I need to unroot to install it on US 3.2 ?
I too just got the update notification on my 3G Xoom running the latest Tiamat Rom. Imma just chill and wait for Team Tiamat's crew to have it rooted. It's not worth a root users time to be on stock. Us root users are power users, and that's something you can't get with pure stock no root.
Point of the post: If you are a root user such as myself, just chill and wait for the devs to do their thing. It's only going to take a day or two if you look at the previous track records.

Agreed. This is what I am doing. However, I must say that the OTA nag every thirty or so minutes is quite annoying, lol.
Its probably nothing. First off its 1.5MB lol. I can imagine it is nothing amazing that Tiamat ROM hasn't already done.
And agreed, the constant notification is extremely annoying. There is a thread in the development forum about disabling the popup I believe.

I got to get in on this as well I agree why would anyone want to unroot for an update that you can get in a rooted version or may already of been done.
But will agree the popup nag is annoying especially since I let my lil daughter play on my Xoom and now I got to stop her incase she presses the wrong thing.
Like everyone above me has said moral to that story just wait it will all be handled
I think the update enabled the use of the SD card . I noticed a " d " folder in my file manager .

it is more likely security patch
Incoming noobness....
So, I have a Xoom on Tiamat 2.2.1 as well, and I just started getting this nag screen for the update.
Just curious, what happens if I update? Goes to stock and unrooted?
I assume if Tiamat comes out with an update, it should be an easy install through clockwork mod and I don't have to start from scratch again?
Because the bootloader is unlocked you'll just get an error if anything at all, so nothing to be worried about.
Too bad I don't have a locked bootloader xoom otherwise I'd do the update real fast just to pull the build.prop file since the build.prop file in the update zip is not actual text.
Apparently there's a way to just reroot but I keep trying to find directions and don't know what I'm supposed to do after I update to get it rooted again. Does anyone here know how to do it without wiping data all over again?

Yes, I can still overclock and it says that whatever program has been granted superuser permissions. I'm still on 3.2 and now the system update says that I'm up-to-date. I got an exclamation point halfway through the install, but everything's still working fine. What the heck should I do at this point? I think I'm going to wait a bit before installing this update...
for the record I'm on 1.73 still... not sure what's in this update
That's odd.. from other X & XL 4.0.4 releases they have used a 2.x.x.x release code and I'm surprised they would release another 4.0.3 version with 4.0.4 out.
I called HTC.
They couldnt tell me how to fix the error or what the update includes.
I was told to factory reset and try it again, which I did. The update still failed and I have to resetup my phone now...

I downloaded the update successfully on my rooted One X (with stock ROM). When I hit install, it restarts the phone and goes into the custom recovery screen... I don't really know what to do from there though... anyone got any ideas?

Only Singapore has gotten 2.x aka 4.0.4.
All other regions were recently updated to things like 1.88(previous Singtel), 1.89(Telstra), 1.91(Telus), 1.92(o2 Germany) and now 1.94(Rogers). There is probably a 1.90 and 1.93 somewhere. Eg maybe 1.93 is the soon to be released AT&T and maybe Vodafone Germany is at 1.90?
Only thing I can think that might mess it up, is that my phone was rooted, but i've done a factory reset already.
So the only other thing I can think of is that the update fails because my phone shows "tampered" from rooting.
You need to install a ruu(the correct rogers one). That will remove tampered warning.
I just downloaded the update. It's def worth doing it. My phone was rooted as well but had no issues with update. Multitasking issue for me seems to be fixed, well a million times better than it was anyways (Seems i spoke too soon on the multitasking, its a bit better, but after a couple apps its back to normal) no more reloading every time you go back to something. Also I used to find it slow going into text messages etc, and the contact list was slow to update especially when scrolling through, totally eliminated now. So much faster and less bogged down feeling.

Installing a RUU does remove the tampered flag. so run the stock ruu, flash the update then unlock the bootloader again then push the custom recovery. flash a root for cmw then you will be rooted again. If you want a custom rom from it, then do a system dump after the upgrade.

I would also like to keep root if possible.
I assume people catch the link while the phone tries to download it.
You can't manually flash a fota. You need to apply all the patch files against the original firmware intended to be updated.
It's a long tedious process, only a smart dev will be able to pull it off.
It was done to get 4.0.4 but is it worth the effort for this? This is likely equal to all the other regions recent 4.0.3 updates.
Why are you guys so eager to flash this? I'm sure there are better custom roms. This will update your hboot so beware. If s-off is achieved you'll be **** out of luck.

I'm also looking for a backup, but I cant seem to find a FULL recovery for the version just before this latest 4.0.4 update.
Like an idiot, I accidentally hit "factory reset" in my touch recovery mod without thinking and it wiped my stock backup. So now I'm stuck with a stock ROM with root. Using temporary unroot (voodoo OTA RootKeeper) doesnt allow the OTA update to work either: I just end up in the recovery screen saying that it failed, and selecting the OTA update from the download folder fails too - no error code).
I see the full backup for the latest version, but there are lots of problems with people using the latest nandroid backup because it doesnt update the RUU or HBOOT or something - either way, the radios are messed up.
Sounds to me like my best solution is to get a fresh stock copy of what we had all summer, then let the OTA happen naturally.
...but... I cant seem to find it. Everything is either an OTA to get to the stock version of last month, or a current full nandroid backup to the latest update, but with the old radios (the stock 2.35.531.7 710rd thread is what I'm talking about - it messes up the WiFi doing it this way).
So... anyone know of a 1.84.531.2 710RD complete refresh backup??? Any help is greatly appreciated.

There's few NANDROID's in my DropBox (check my signature) and RUU's as well.
Enjoy.
Thanks guys. I read through the Torxx thread and saw the wifi workaround side-post, but frankly it sounds like that'll be another situation where I wont be able to get OTA.
I installed TWRP and rooted around 2 months ago - so whatever was current around that time... (??!)
Anyhow, my main goal is to get back to OTA-compatibility and stay that way for this current update, and then the anticipated 4.1 JB update that might come in the next month or 2, then go back and see about rooting again.
I found a thread with a "stock" nandroid backup to the version I need, but the guy who posted it says that it's rooted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698861
Frankly, I dont see how that is any different from what I have right now (stock, rooted), and I cant OTA (I get the file but it errors on install). I think the only reason that this stock, but rooted, ROM above would work is that my previous deleting of the pre-installed junk apps is now preventing the OTA update from working, and this fresh install brings those back. Anyone know the answer on this?
If your looking for an RUU here's a whole bunch. Keep in mind you can only update with an RUU otherwise it won't run. Verify your H-Boot version first.

This is a bit off-topic, but I will ask anyway. If I have a rooted stock HTC one s (s3), when the OTA update to JB will be available iny country, I will get it but not be able to install it? I am interested in knowing when the OTA update is available so I can unroot, install it and then go back to a rooted device. Thanks a lot

bricked my phone
So I am pretty new to the community and have only rooted my phone for use of ARliberator. I recently took the MD3 OTA and the signal was crap, now I get the new update this am MF3 and it bricked my phone with the message "system software not authorized by vzw take to store" blah blah. I tried this using voodoo root keeper with out un-rooting first.
Guessing my only option is to flash back in odin mode or is there some recovery that I can try? I have everything backed up with titanium pro. how would I reload all of that after I flash?

How small ? The previous update that they pulled was just under 130mb as I recall. This one should be very close to the same size unless it's a firmware update only and the "premium suite" will come later.

ODIN back to stock OEM , then take all the updates before rooting again. Make a full backup in recovery before using Titanium Backup to restore. Restoring Apps + data with TB can cause issues.

So after trying about 5 times my phone booted back up and is working. The update did not go through but my phone is working as it was before. I dont know why the recovery wouldnt boot at first unless it was the update blocking it for a few minutes.
Might have made the rookie mistake since I didnt do the temp un-root with voodoo, but I was trying to be innovative and see if it worked with out it like it did with the MD3 OTA.

I tried just temp unrooting with voodokeeper, downloading and installing the update, and it worked and the phone loaded up phone and I was able to turn root back on with Voodkeeper no problem. I have two S3s, one is a mistake I made in getting a phone for a now ex that was supposed to pay their share of the bill, etc and didn't and I took the phone back. That's the one I experiment stuff with and tried it there with no problems. I'm afraid to do it without ODINing etc though on the phone I always use. The ex's phone never seems to have any problems with updates and re-rooting though.

Glad to hear that method worked for you. I just tried it again and I get to right after it shuts off and get past the Samsung screen with RECOVERY in the top left in blue, to the yellow triangle saying "you have unauthorized VZW software...turn off device and take to store..." with SECURE:KERNEL in red in the top left...i think thats what it says.
Guessing flash method is all that will work for me, owell.
Thanks again.
Go to odin flash valrec or whatever it is then flash clockwork mod...flash the superuserfix that's used to root and unlock the bootloader...

Possible brick: Uninstalled bmm, phone stuck at boot logo

Today, I installed PA 4.3 on system 1. When I opened bmm and tried to install it, it said wrong busybox version installed. So I uninstalled it and when I rebooted, my phone is stuck on boot logo. Any help would be appreciated? I am able to go to android recovery. Can I directly fxz the stock ROM using RSDlite or is there any other way to bring my phone back to life
Fxz to stock using rsd.. It'll solve it.. Tho make sure u use the right fxz file..
Sent from my ME865 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Also, take a few minutes to look around the forums since there is already a thread dedicated to questions like this. It probably had all the answers/information you need for your current situation. Look here:

If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
Your phone is AT&T, right?
Then make sure that u use right fxz
