My wife has been due for an upgrade since Aug 2011. I can't decide what to get her. She has the HTC Eris now and I have the Charge. I have been looking at the Samsung Stratosphere or Charge. Maybe even the Bionic. I would like to try out the video chatting to see how that works. What do you guys and gals think?
Thanks,
Brad
The only one I'd look at right now is the Galaxy Nexus. Don't get me wrong, I love my Charge, but there's no reason to get one now with everything else out, and the Nexus is a true Google Experience phone.

So I have a bit of dilemma.
I have 2 months left on my contract with Verizon and this Eris.
I can get an employee plan with AT&T and T-Mobile for around $30/month on any other Android.
I wanted to wait till Motorola/Tegra 2 phone this holidays, but it looks like the Eris is not going to stay well till then.
I'm not sure what to do. Here are my options -
1) I really like the Galaxy S phones, but the GPS issues are killing me, I'm not sure if they are ever going to be fixed. Plus Samsung upgrade path, I don't know if they will get either get android 3.0 or beyond.
2) I liked Droid X, but the lack of any custom ROMs till now have lessened my interest in it.
I can probably buy a 2nd hand Galaxy S for around $200-250 if somebody sells and wait for the next best phone this year end.
there arent any galaxy s phones for 200-250 .... ur best bet is a good ol' hd2 w/ android
I have a few minor gripes with this phone, but no more than I'd have with any new android phone.
My battery is awesome. There is so much development and support for it. The screen is beautiful. Its fast. Best looking (even with my case)
The next phone I buy is gonna have to really blow my captivate out of the water, because it looks like ill be keeping this for a long time...
i also, did quite a bit of forum research before buying my captivate so i knew the minor problems "gps" going into it,nothing beats a good ole fashioned paper map, even with 15 days left on the return policy,i'm keeping this one

Yea definitely an excellent phone, I'm using Cognition 3 and I love it, I don't think I need the front facing camera at all.
Well the problem is I don't know what to get next. All devices are locking/signing bootloaders now:
Motorola
HTC
LG
Sony Ericcson
..
Anyone know what Galaxy S II will do?

Id guess the S2 wont, but who knows.
I think Ill probably just be waiting for the next nexus phone to come out. the current one is just a minor upgrade from the captivate. Theres obviously going to be a ton of support for it, and it will be out for ATT since they bought T-mobile.
I think even if i were buying a phone today, I might still go with the captivate over other android phones simply because its the most customizable.
To me its the ATT equivalent to the original moto droid.

My next phone will be a galaxy S 2...unless the bootloader is encrypted...then it will be a next generation nexus s or other AOSP phone.
Hey dudes. Well, getting the itch for something new. After having my Epic 4g for over a year (and the fact I'm a phone whore) thinking of switching from crapola Sprint to Verizon. Network has been crappy to say the least in the last months. I've tried a multitude of roms, themes, but can't seem to shake it. Be that as it may, anybody in the same boat?
Any suggestions on what to get? I've been seeing the Prime talk and all, but who knows how long that will be before it comes out. I was looking at the Bionic, being that I can't upgrade to the Epic Touch, and again the crappy Sprint network. Any other suggestions?
Jess
try out the thunderbolt heard its pretty good
I might wait for the prime... read that there was that Samsung event where they may showcase it. Doubt it'll be long before it comes out. They'd want to get it out before Xmas is my guess...
I know their are probably a bunch of these threads already out, your probably tired of seeing them so bare with me please, I'm a noob.
I was granted an "early" upgrade. I was on the phone with the rep and I had to pick a phone at that moment, I wasn't allowed to call back, long story.
Anyways, it was between the Nexus, Rezound and Razr. My old phone was Droid X and X2, customiztion was horrible, I swore to myself I would never go back to Motorola because to this day there are only around 3 ROMs out for it, hell CM is still not complete for it. I've always like the UI on HTC phones, don't know why I think it's a great UI, looks wise. I've never had an HTC phone for a long period of time to determine how the UI runs long term. And with the Nexus, you can pretty much customize it how you see fit, from what I hear? I haven't had chance to go to the store to try any of these so I'm basing everything off what the rep told me. So it be nice to get the "real" advice from you guys.
So I ordered the Nexus, I had the rep on the phone for an hour while I was Googleing information online. It was between the Nexus and Rezound. I don't know too much about these phones but at first I was leaning toward the Rezound because of the faster CPU, removable sdcard, the better camera, etc. But the Verizon rep who was an HTC user before recommended the Nexus, he said the phone feels like a different world, that UI is very sleek, clean and friendly.
Did I get the right phone? I know I have 14 days to decide but I really for once want to get a phone and not have to return it. So what are the big noticeable differences between the Nexus and Rezound?
Also, I was wondering about this:
- The nexus has an unlocked bootloader unlike the Rezound?
- Will the Nexus eventually have Sense roms out for it, I like the Sense UI and I want to get back into flashing a bunch of different ROMs. I haven't been able to do that sine the OG Droid b/c my Droid X is a POS!
- How is the batter life, my DX couldn't make it through the night.
That's all I can think of now, I appreciate everyones help and listening to me ramble on, I just want to pick the right phone.
Nexus, Rezound, or Razr?
I'm in a similar boat. I have a phone coming my way, but I'm not sure which I want... I have a Thunderbolt currently, running CM7, and I love the AOSP experience. I'm leaning towards the Nexus, but at the same time, the RAZR is absolutely epic, and the Rezound has a lot of awesome goodness. I hate Sense, and Motoblur (or whatever it's called currently).
I know the Galaxy Nexus has a couple of problems, but how severe do they actually affect the useability of the device?
To the OP: If you like messing with roms, nexus it always going to be the best way to go.
Definitely the Nexus. The rezound hasn't been rooted yet. The Razr is a motorola with a locked bootloader...enough said. The Nexus' issues are all software related and will be fixed with OTA's and custom ROM's.
I'm curious to see how many fools say SGSII in this post.
I got the Nexus today arrive a few hours ago. I'm going to play with this for a few days and make my final decision. I like ICS already, but for some reason I like the Sense UI on HTC phones. I'm going to try and hit up a Verizon store soon to check one out.
hi all, im in the market for a new phone and im really really confused as to which one to get???
ive just sold my galaxy s2, and was looking at either the GNex or Evo3D???
now, the evo 3d is already in my price range as i can buy it in the middle of next week???
or do i save a little bit more and get the gnex within the next say 4-6 weeks???
if anyone has had any experience with these 2 phones id really like some help as to which to get???
many thanks
darren
luckily I have both. I would say that the Galaxy S2 is actually better than the Evo 3D, so no point upgrading to the Evo 3D. The Nexus is probably the best one though, worth saving up for it
yeah, i think ur right mate, i havent had the chance to play with the galaxy nexus yet as no one had a demo unit when i went to look, but i been thinkin about it for the last few days and just had a chat with me girlfriend and she told me to wait for the gnex as well, and i think ur both right.
i loved the screen of the gs2 and really thinking about it i reckon it would be a downgrade to change from gs2 to evo 3d.
well thanks for ur reply mate and ill definately wait the few weeks and gonna get the galaxy nexus.
take care
