Upgrade! Should I get the Nexus, Rezound or Razr? - General Questions and Answers

I know their are probably a bunch of these threads already out, your probably tired of seeing them so bare with me please, I'm a noob.
I was granted an "early" upgrade. I was on the phone with the rep and I had to pick a phone at that moment, I wasn't allowed to call back, long story.
Anyways, it was between the Nexus, Rezound and Razr. My old phone was Droid X and X2, customiztion was horrible, I swore to myself I would never go back to Motorola because to this day there are only around 3 ROMs out for it, hell CM is still not complete for it. I've always like the UI on HTC phones, don't know why I think it's a great UI, looks wise. I've never had an HTC phone for a long period of time to determine how the UI runs long term. And with the Nexus, you can pretty much customize it how you see fit, from what I hear? I haven't had chance to go to the store to try any of these so I'm basing everything off what the rep told me. So it be nice to get the "real" advice from you guys.
So I ordered the Nexus, I had the rep on the phone for an hour while I was Googleing information online. It was between the Nexus and Rezound. I don't know too much about these phones but at first I was leaning toward the Rezound because of the faster CPU, removable sdcard, the better camera, etc. But the Verizon rep who was an HTC user before recommended the Nexus, he said the phone feels like a different world, that UI is very sleek, clean and friendly.
Did I get the right phone? I know I have 14 days to decide but I really for once want to get a phone and not have to return it. So what are the big noticeable differences between the Nexus and Rezound?
Also, I was wondering about this:
- The nexus has an unlocked bootloader unlike the Rezound?
- Will the Nexus eventually have Sense roms out for it, I like the Sense UI and I want to get back into flashing a bunch of different ROMs. I haven't been able to do that sine the OG Droid b/c my Droid X is a POS!
- How is the batter life, my DX couldn't make it through the night.
That's all I can think of now, I appreciate everyones help and listening to me ramble on, I just want to pick the right phone.

Nexus, Rezound, or Razr?
I'm in a similar boat. I have a phone coming my way, but I'm not sure which I want... I have a Thunderbolt currently, running CM7, and I love the AOSP experience. I'm leaning towards the Nexus, but at the same time, the RAZR is absolutely epic, and the Rezound has a lot of awesome goodness. I hate Sense, and Motoblur (or whatever it's called currently).
I know the Galaxy Nexus has a couple of problems, but how severe do they actually affect the useability of the device?
To the OP: If you like messing with roms, nexus it always going to be the best way to go.

Definitely the Nexus. The rezound hasn't been rooted yet. The Razr is a motorola with a locked bootloader...enough said. The Nexus' issues are all software related and will be fixed with OTA's and custom ROM's.
I'm curious to see how many fools say SGSII in this post.

I got the Nexus today arrive a few hours ago. I'm going to play with this for a few days and make my final decision. I like ICS already, but for some reason I like the Sense UI on HTC phones. I'm going to try and hit up a Verizon store soon to check one out.

(Q) Best Current Verizon Android Phone

Hey All,
I am a TMo user with a MT4G, but my wife doesn't like TMo and wants a verizon phone. I don't know much about their lineup and was wondering what is the best Android phone for Verizon.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks!!
I would say the Th-bolt
Of course many people may prefer different one, depending on what you really need and daily using ( features).
I'm going to go with the thunderbolt right now. I'm currently on ATT however so I don't really keep up with all the phones. The Arc is coming/ is out on Verizon right? If so, you should definitely look into that.
Amazing design, amazing screen, and an amazing camera. If I weren't planning on getting the Galaxy S 2 (and if i was on Verizon of course) I'd definitely think about picking one up.
Of course the Thunderbolt is a great phone too; if you live in a city where you can get 4G, you should definitely take that into account.
I still think if you can pick up a Droid X, go for it, I know people who will live and die for that phone
I like my Incredible 1 personally, still by far gets the job done.
Thunderbolt may be your best bet for the top of the line though at the moment.
Thunderbolt IMO
Thunderbolt if you're in a 4g area. If not the Incredible 2, while not a huge improvement from the original, looks pretty nice and is coming out soon.
Even if you don't have 4G currently in your area I don't think it will be long so keep that in mind.
Yeah, I say the Thunderbolt also. It's actuallu an HTC Desire HD with slightly altered appearance and is HTC's flagship phone.
I'd see when the Droid Bionic is launching if it still is
Im pretty sure the bionic has been scraped and moto is now gonna focus on the targa as its next flagship phone
I agree with you guys Thunderbolt is definitely the best option as of now
I did forget to mention the Thunderbolt only if you're in an area with 4G or getting it very soon.

[Q] Fascinate or Incredible 2??

I just found out the Incredible 2 is in my price range. From what I have been able to find, it has not been rooted yet, whereas the Fascinate has a great community. What would you do in my shoes. I will be purchasing in about a month -(I need a Verizon phone less than $100). This will be my first Android (going from Blackberry). I want it to be a good experience.
Assuming the DInc2 isn't rooted prior to my purchase, what should I get? What are the odds looking like for getting root, Gingerbread ota, or anything like that? I fully intend to have this phone for 2 years.
Thanks!
i would go with the dinc2, but im a huge htc fan.
I have a Mesmerize (fascinate on a different carrier) and I definitely recommend the fassy. The dev community is fantastic. We almost have a fully funtiinal gingerbread cyanogenmod which will be amazing, by the time you get the phone it will definitely be done. It is a phone that will stand up well against newer phones. The dinc is not bad, but as you noted, it hasn't even been rooted. There is no development at all. I've used both phones, and I say, if you want to make your phone awesome on your own, get the fascinate but if you want it to be good out of the box get the dinc.
Sent from my CM7 SCH-i500
Hmm...one vote for each...
if the inc2 is not rooted, i would go with the fascinate. If it is rooted, hands down i would pick the incredible 2 if you plan on rooting and romming it. I loved my original incredible and still use it even though i have moved on. It is a great device. IMO sense is a little better than touchwiz on the fascinate, but that is just me.
Well it isn't rooted yet...so that's the question. I don't know if it ever will be rooted.
I would go with the Incredible 2. The root is coming out soon and plus imo Sense is much better than Touchwiz.
I'd get the incredible 2 in my opinion it has a better camera, more ram , better build quality the only thing fascinate has better is an amoled screen
I like both phones a lot, but I would have to give the edge to the Incredible 2. The only advantage I would take the Fascinate for would be the sALMOED screen. It is truely stunning. But the Incredible 2's screen is also great (any screen on an Android phone would be a giant improvement over a BB screen lets face it). Slightly better specs plus Sense is much better than Touch wiz.
Fascinate........................
Thanks everyone! It looks like the bootloader is just about unlocked for the Incredible 2, so that is what I am going to go with!
Good choice.

Why did you pick the One X over Samsung S3 ???

You don't even know the specs of of the S3 and you have already pre-ordered the One X. You do know the S3 will be annouced on May 3rd right?
Well for me the biggest reason is...... The HTC Vivid. It was released on the same day as the Skyrocket and it has had ICS for over a month.. It was also released 6 weeks later than the S2.
The Sammy Att combo does not like to upgrade very fast.
Plus I always reserve the right to change my mind if the S3 is coming to ATT in May and is totally Bad
Ive had the Captivate and right now I have my Galaxy S II. While I love my GSII, Im tired of Samsung and the same square boring look. Then yesterday, I was able to play with the OneX for an hour and had me completely sold.
Im sure the GS3 has nice specs, but chances are you wont be utilizing them 100% of the time. Ill take the look of the OneX over a "potential" increase of hardware, and instead enjoy the beautiful screen and fast camera.
Im choosing the HOX or S3 simply because Samsung is and already has already taken too long to spill the beans on the S3, its like they are hiding nuclear weapons or something. And also its time for a new phone and I dont feel like waiting several more months for the S3 to be released. And the fact that it takes Samsung/At&t forever and a day to release updates to their phones. Another note I hate about Samsung is that they release multiple versions of their phones like the S2, S2 Skyrocket, Skyrocket HD, etc... lol
Edit: Im still using my old captivate simply because I wanted the S2 but then came the skyrocket and others then came news of the S3 so I couldnt choose until I saw the HOX at MWC then I played with it the other day in the local store and Im completely sold on it now.
I also had a Captivate that had to be swapped out 5 times for all sorts of issues.
The S2 has been great except for the camera buzzing sound(autofocus).
ATT is sending me another one now to swap. It didn't bother me too much,,, But I figured it should work correctly since its going to the family member I took the upgrade from.
For me, I'm tired of waiting for something good. I have been eligible for an upgrade for months... Don't want an iPoop and recent phones just don't do it for me. The S3 could be great, but the HOX is available now (relatively). At worse if the S3 is announced to be available really soon I could always take the HOX back. Plus, my last 3 phones were HTCs...guess I'm a fan of the quality.
Another reason, be it a dumb reason, is I hate their naming scheme. If someone asks me about the HOX I can say it's an HTC ONE X. If they ask about the skyrocket for example I would have to tell them it's a Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket HD. I would hate myself for even having to say it...

Do other HTC phones have all the stock skins? I noticed that while playing with the store demo. I think there were at least 10
I ordered it so I could flip it.
If I do decide to keep the One X, it will hang around till the GSIII arrives.
(unless the GSIII turns out to be a turd)
Gonna be funny if the GSIII turns out to be a monster on the 3rd, then my One X arrives on the 4th...

Keep the HOX and flip the iphone5
i have had the captivate and the note, the cappy was a bug from the start and had slow updates, the note didn't "feel" like an upgrade aside from the screen which as a phone was to big for me i guess as it was a pain. the note had last years hardware and felt cheaply made as well. i'm not saying the h1x will be a dream come true but it is different and i think that is what i need.
i remember my htc pure back in the day and it had great support and updates, and was well built. i have tried all the major brands a chance or two, if the h1x sucks then my next try will probably be a motorola as the atrix was really nice and i kinda miss it now.

You know, that was my intention at the end of last year. (I've been up for upgrade for a long time now) and Apple effed us with the 4S. Then I almost used it on the Note to flip. I'm glad I never got around to it, the 1X is much more exciting...

same here, stupid 4s...
i was going for the nexus but decided to flip the note for the int one x...then s4 stats came out...now i am sitting on almost a grand to buy the h1x for att. i really hope it's worth it, but if not, i have 2 more upgrades this year. it's so nice to have 4 lines and your the only one using them, especially when 2 of your lines only cost 10 bucks each extra and the people using them are giving 40 each, haha!
I haven't been terribly impressed by any Samsung devices to date. Even my beloved Nexus. I detest touchwiz. I think it is completely useless. Sense actually does some useful stuff to Android.
So for me, it came down to, what could Samsung possibly release that would make me change my mind about that? Short of a beautiful device with stock ICS, nothing. And I'd still be torn if that's all they brought. I've had stock ICS for about five months. I love it, but I'm ready for change.
The key points for me are speed, screen quality, design and support. HTC hit a grand slam in my book. My only hope is that devs pick it up and start to play with it.

I feel the exact opposite as you. HTC makes me yawn, (until now) and I *can't stand* Sense. Touchwiz goes away with a 3rd party launcher, Sense invades everything. I've seen the same horrid weather widget since my TouchPro 1 and 2 and Fuze days. Enough already.
What does Sense do that's useful? (I haven't owned an HTC phone since my N1)
Not being a **** or starting an argument, I'm actually interested.

I've been waiting for Sammy/AT&T to release the SGSII Skyrocket HD now for a while (they announced it Jan 9!!) and there still isn't even a date ... I don't like that the HOX doesn't have an SD card slot, but I may end up going for the HOX only because of the timing of the SGSII S-HD ...
And for those of you talking about the SGSIII, if it's announced in the UK May 3rd, take a guess of when it'll be available in the US? Not only will it take months (4+ if the S-HD is any point of reference) to get it here; it'll also be so close to the SGSII S-HD that it wouldn't surprise me if AT&T holds off on the SIII waiting for the inventory of S-HD to sell through (maybe that's what they're doing with the S-HD ... waiting for the current non-HDs to sell through).

It will take awhile for the US carriers to put it out yes, but we can buy the international version the day its released. (Most have done this with the GSI, GSII, and the Gnex)
I'm with you all on all your points, but I still can't take the plunge until i see what Samsung unveils. I mean, it's prior to the US release of the One XL anyway and it isn't like this phone is going to be sold out for weeks. The One XL does look amazing though, either of them is sure to be a huge upgrade over my stupid iPhone 4.

There will be less of a gap between International and US this time around than with the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II.

For me, Sense has more relevant widgets than stock offers. Petty and fully replicatible with 3rd party apps, I know, but that's it for me. Sense, although historically super intrusive and a data/memory hog, visually looks and feels more thought out. Holo (Stock ICS UI) is getting close but not there yet. Blur is also closing the gap but Blur and Touchwiz and all the other custom UIs are still pretty disjointed. And while I love Holo's sort of minimalist and simple design, I have found myself somewhat bored with it. It sounds odd, and I can't really put my finger on it, but I feel a tad bit disappointed for some reason with it sometimes- like I was expecting more nuances and eye candy...

GNexus to HTC One X - Should i go for it?

Hi Guys,
I currently have a Galaxy Nexus and i love it, but im tempted to go for a One X after playing with one in store at the weekend.
Anyone else made the same jump got any comments?
Should i go for it or not?
Seems like there's a few issues that are putting me off?
Any comments / advice offered appreciated.
Thanks
Paul
Don't do it, too much issues at the moment. Wait 2 months and see if HTC can get their act together.
I wisely asked a refund after my 3rd HTC One X. And seeing people complaining about a lot of different stuff in the One X section, I can only suggest they do the same and get a refund. This phone isn't ready for production.
Issues aside the one x for me is worth the trade off!

I don't think it is enough of an upgrade. Better camera, slightly better screen is about it. People will say the cpu and gpu are better, but my Nexus never shows any stutter or lag, so what is the difference? If you love sense, then maybe you should upgrade. But if you are just planning on putting an AOSP ROM on it, then I really don't see the point.
Htc has better pcu and gpu, and that should be not the reason to buy one x.
Because of the quality of the device Samsung is much better when it comes to quallty.
(I DONT WANNA SAY THAT HTC SUCKS. JUST SAYING THAT SAMSUNG HAS BETTER BUILD QUALITY)
wait
i've play with the one x myself, feel good, no lags but i'm a big samsung fan so i'm gonna wait till i get my hands on the s3, to caompare, then i'll make my choice
I returned my One X b/c of the multitasking issues...it was that big a deal. I'd hold off.
Nope. I was looking at the Evo 4G LTE (basically a CDMA One X with a memory card slot and LTE) and am no longer interested after getting my Galaxy Nexus. Why? Stock ICS is so much better than Sense. It's the first version of Android that I prefer totally stock. We have a real unlocked bootloader, while HTC's bootloader unlock requires you to void your warranty and flash certain things, like kernels, through ADB because it's not a full unlock.
Additionally, yes, the One X is undoubtedly faster, but it has a few build issues that I'm not going to type out (because there are several). Also it has extremely aggressive memory management, so it will kill any apps in the background and restart them as soon as you go into them.
Overall, even though I loved previous iterations of Sense, and although Sense 4.0 isn't really bloated, it totally detracts from the Ice Cream Sandwich experience. You feel like you're running on Gingerbread again.
Also you'll miss that cool RGB LED on the Galaxy Nexus that does every color
Thanks for the responses guys - i guess im just gonna hold off then, i DO love my Galaxy Nexus, but was just beginning to get that new device feeling... dunno why i get that
The Grass isn't always greener as they say...

Love for the HOX :)

I've been trying to trade my HOX for a GS3 for a few days now but I'm getting ahead of myself so let me start from the beginning. I started out with my GNex and heard about the HOX and how amazing it was so like any other android enthusiast I immediately set my sights on acquiring one. However it wasn't as simple as that lol I tried for months to acquire one, refusing to pay cash, to no avail. With a somewhat mild sadness I gave up in defeat and made my piece with my GNex. Little did I know a ray of "hope" was gonna shine on me by way of the GS3 lol after leaks, rumors and shady speculation I immediately fell in love with it but the HOX still had a place in my heart I just could not get the simple elegance of that contour unibody silhouette out of my mind. So pushing all those mixed emotions and thoughts aside I decided to pursue the GS3. After finally acquiring one, which was a feat in and of itself, I spent a week with it and I must admit I treated it like a dirty mistress lol my GNex got shelved almost immediately and I used it every minute of that week. As the week was drawing to a close I sat down and thought about what exactly made me love the GS3 so much. Was it the design? Kinda. Was it the name? Not so much. Or was it the software? I came to the decision that this was the sorce of my affection. After coming to this realization I returned the GS3 and took my GNex of the shelf and fell for it all over again with the buttery sweet allure of Jellybean lol After using it as my daily once again I came to a settled state of mind and convinced myself that I was content in my decision to stay with the GNex. That was until I decided to peruse the marketplace on a whim. Then to what seemed to be that of a dream inside of a looking glass I saw that someone was willing to trade their HOX for a GNex. The first thought in my mind was &#&%@&&#&@* yeah!!! Lol I then preceded into making a trade and within 24 hours I had finally received my long awaited love. All those repressed thoughts and emotions came flooding back like a tsunami. And now as I type from my HOX I can now say that I am indeed content with this beautifully crafted piece of artwork....that is until the next thing comes out lol

Amazing story bro hahaha... although this phone had a small introduction, from the second I seen it I was also in love. Had to have it. Once I got it, the nostalgia was unreal. I can't stay off of it, can't stop customizing it. I've played around with a JB nexus, I play around with my buddies lte GS3.... I just don't think they compare to my OneX. We do alot of modding and different roms.. my benchmarks absolutely tower over theirs, do side by side comparisons and mine is just way more snappy flipping through screens, in and out of apps, and going in and out of app drawer... not to mention the screen is out of this world. My wife accidently dropped it (never left a mark).... almost divorced her lol. So I came to my senses, rubbed her back and told her it was OK... I'm talking about my OneX of course hahaha.

I as well really was blown away when I first saw the phone make its debut in Barcelona at the convention. Being on sprint i was very disappointed that sprint had decided to keep the evo line going and not go with the at lease the look of the one-x. So after months of trying to decide of weather to leave sprint or take the move to att I finally took the plunge last Sunday and I have made the move. I absolutely love this phone, coming from my great OG EVO this phone rocks. The only and I mean only con I can say (at least for me) is the lack of the total 16gigs and sd slot. I mean can learn how to manage not having and SD but the fact that i don't have all of my 16 gigs (to be honest even 15 or so would have been nice) I kinda ticking me off, but not enough to leave this phone. Thanks again HTC for making a really good looking phone.
Awesome phone
Yea I know what ya mean. I saw this phone knew I had to have it. Tried every way I could to get my hands on it. Had an atrix 2 before and no one wanted to trade with boot. So I broke down and done early upgrade and just gonna try to sell my atrix 2. Got my case in today and hated to put it on this beautiful phone. But its clear so I can still see its beauty haha
OP, my story sounds a lot like yours. At the moment, I've got 4 phones (insanity)...4S (which will go to my wife to replace her iPhone 4), GNex (which I love), One X (more about it in a second), and S3.
Like you, it started by perusing the MP. Initially, I found a GNex for a great price in mint condition. I jumped at it and it's a wonderful phone. My only gripe is the speaker volume on calls. The tweaks that worked to make it louder when it was on ICS don't work anymore on JB, so it's become my backup phone. If only I could make the volume louder, it would be the perfect phone for me.
A week or so later, I came across a One X in the MP. Again, great price and mint, so I took a flyer and got it too. This was just before the S3 came out and I'd already decided to try the S3 since I had a S2 that was awesome. The One X was everything I'd hoped for. Beautiful design and that screen...OMG that screen!
So...then the S3 was available. I grabbed one from Best Buy off-contract. I love this thing! It's everything i was hoping for and more. I don't even feel the need to root it.
So then, I told myself a decision had to be made. I wasn't going to keep 3 phones (GNex, HOX, and S3)...that's just silly...right? So after using each of them for a week, I came to the conclusion that I'd sell the HOX, as I wanted to keep the GNex as a "play" phone to mess with ROMs and such and since the S3 was going to have such a big development community behind it it would stay also.
About 4 days passed after selling the HOX and I found myself missing it. So, the search began again for another one. Sure enough, another beauty popped up on the MP and I snatched it up. So, here I sit...3 phones that I rotate between. LOL...it's a sickness!
I won't lie, though. My go-to phone is the S3. But every so often I switch it up for a day or two and use either the GNex or HOX and get my fix. I'll keep the S3 for a while, but eventually (probably when the next Nexus phone is coming) I'll sell the HOX and GNex to fund it. I have no intention of going back to the iPhone anytime soon, though. These 3, along with my Nexus 7, give me all I need and more.
Since the One X came out, ive had (in order) Grey One X, White SGS3, Blue SGS3, Grey Int One X, Grey One X, Red SGS3, White One X. Yes, im crazy. Basically, even though I like grey much more than white, im happy im going to stick (and finally decidedly staying) with the one x. SGS3 is the phone I wanted to like, but all I enjoyed was the removable battery and microSD card slot (didn't use it for swapping but just for more memory). I think I just fell for samsung's blitz of advertising.

These 3, along with my Nexus 7, give me all I need and more.

all I understand is that you have lots of money
From beast called HTC One X
There is actually somebody local wanting to trade their galaxy nexus for a HOX.. hmm I don't know if I want to give it a go. All their constant updates and true jelly bean experience is kind if a win. But I love the looks of this phone. The touch screen feels amazing!

LOL...I wouldn't say that. I make enough that I can put away some play money. The problem is, my hobbies keep evolving. First it was my motorcycle and having to buy all the gear that goes along with that (in multiples, of course...gotta be ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at you and wet leathers SUCK!) Now, on top of that expensive hobby, there's this phone hobby that I've developed. Ugh.
The key is to make sure you take care of the things that matter most first. My car is paid off...my motorcycle almost is...my bills are all static, so I know exactly what I have to pay out every month. Little by little, put away money in a savings account and before you know it, you've got a nice stash to play with.
The phone hobby is really only expensive at the beginning. Once you've got a couple of phones, you simply sell one and move on to the next one. Now the overhead is low (you sell X phone for $300 and buy Y (new) phone for $400 so you're only out $100 total). The key is knowing when to sell the old phone (a window I've probably missed on the HOX...but I'll still get a decent amount out of it).

Software is software, we will get Jelly Bean in time. Screen, build, camera (DEF CAMERA) are way better on the one x. Dont downgrade yourself.

To be honest, I wouldn't give up my GNex for the HOX. The HOX is amazing, don't get me wrong. But the GNex is just so much fun with all the ROMs you can play with. The camera isn't THAT bad and if you use another kernel like Franco or Trinity, you can tweak the screen to be pretty darn good. One thing I love about the GNex is that it's nearly unbrickable. Unless you really screw something up, you almost can't.
I'd recommend both to anyone, though.

while I loved my galaxy nexus, AOSP was just too boring for me plus I don't really like the Holo theme all that much. I prefer the look and feel of stock sense... plus, this phone is dead gorgeous! yes, I know sold an open phone for a "closed" one, but all the roms over in the GN are just AOSP Jelly Bean... there were no real differentiators except some mods tweaks here and there.
Plus, I can't wait to get Jelly Bean Sense... I loved the changes in the notification drawer and the way notifications were displayed as well as the ability to have high res contact pics (synced with Google)

Thats exactly how I felt. Sure there 78 ROMS and 43 Kernels, but the phone is still visually 80% the same between all of them. ive been rooting/flashing my phones for a few years, and I gotta say that honestly, I have a 100% stock/unrooted 2.20 OTA One X and theres not a single want to change that (other than maybe ADFREE)

This. I'm running the rooted, odexed version of 2.20... the only reason I care to do root is AdAway and I do like to flash the occasional rom to check it out, but it seems like I always come back to stock 2.20.
Plus I can't stand AMOLED screens and how you can't see them in the daylight.

I was a DIEHARD SAMOLED fan, probably because of my bias toward Samsung (I love their TV's and have had them my entire adult life). But WOW, the daylight difference between these two is night and day. Big plus especially if you do alot of car-dock mode driving.
Funny thing is, is that I actually love AOKP/AOSP. I'm using CM9 on this HOX cause I can't stand sense. Only thing I want more on this phone are more kernels and OTG support. Then this will be perfect.
