What do you think guys? Will this work? Is it safe to use? Can I use it to remove bloatware ? Which console app should I use?
Temp root + s-on = only stop bloatware from running on one boot. When you reboot, you'll lose temproot, plus all it's changes since nothing can be saved.

What if I install titanium backup and freeze some apps? or I need S-off in order to install recovery?

Your bloatware will stay gone if you freeze/delete with TB. This is a good option for people who just want to remove bloatware.

Even with s-on? That doesn't make any sense since you need to write to /system to freeze apps.

interesting. I've been too lazy to root (I did one click my Nexus one),but I do have Titanium backup purchased from my n-1. I would like to remove bloatware without rooting the sensation. Keep me updated.

Freezing apps is not done by writing to the system partition.

I can confirm that this mod works for the MyTouch 4G. I've tested it, and was able to remove some of my unwanted apps.
Yes, I can reboot my phone, and the apps will not appear again.
Please read the warning as you will no longer recieve OTA's once you do the MOD.
I am in no way responsible for any damage done to your phone.
Instead of force removing I put them on freeze. Will that stop OTA as well?

Running Visionary will prevent root period until you remove it. If you remove apps then you have to go back to stock by way of fastboot. If you freeze, then just restore what was frozen and remove visionary. Then you should be good.
Ok but my question wasn't answered. Let's say I don't restore the apps and I keep visionary with my phone rooted. Will I still get the OTA?
myTouch4G (Glacier)
How would this work with a full reboot (no fastboot)? No writes or deletes can be done on the system partition. Unless, Titanium is freezing the app, in which case the app wouldn't even appear in the app drawer. It's still there however. Have you checked with Root Explorer to determine whether they exist in /system/app after reboot (fastboot off)?

He said it blocks otas, you won't need them since that's the point of being rooted....You can get rooted otas from devs here, which is what xda has done for years.

He said "force removing" will block OTA. I'm talking about just "freezing" them. I understand being rooted will get rooted OTAs from the devs and that's faster then actually waiting.

I removed VISIONary, Fastboot off, did a full reboot, checked /system/app and can tell you that I no longer have the apps tha have been removed in my phone.
OK, thanks for the reply. How does even make sense in light of the fact that any changes to /system are only reflected in the cache, and NOT to the system partition on NAND locked devices?
I have another question. After force removing the unwanted apps. Does the space that was being used by the apps return to the device?

The bloatware apps exist on the /system partition. Your installed user apps go to the /data partition, so the answer is no.
Oh ok cool. Thanks for the fast reply.

Perhaps you missed the point that both G2 and MT4G are both write-protected so the only chance of getting OTA for those handsets (at least for now) is official T-mo update.

I'm sure he means AFTER perm root is found (if it is), not currently.

I used Titanium to freeze some apps (hate faves popping up all the time). After doing a full reboot, they were still frozen. I could not find a few like Yahoo mail, which keeps on popping up.
It seem that available memory went up as a result - over 1gb rather then just under.
I think I will stay with this rather then forced removal through the terminal emulator.
I hope this is in the right place, I just got the Sensation after a turbulent 1 1/2 yrs with my OG MyTouch3G. Does anybody know how to restore my backup with no root access on the Sensation? TIA
You don't without root..... i am taking this as an opportunity for a clean load of apps...

mybackup or mybackup pro from the Market is your answer... GET IT!
If you have access to your old phone, here's what I did:
Pull all apps from /data/app(-private)
Clean out what you dont want anymore
Download Android Commander
Make sure USB Debugging is enabled
Go to the directory you pulled your apps to and check what you want installed

I backed up all of my apps on my G2X using Titanium. Once I installed that SD card into my Sensation, all of my apps magically disappeared. I didn't think it would happen without Root but it did. I really didn't want it to since I like starting fresh with new phones so I had to do a reset. It did work though.
Thanks for input fellas, I'll just do a clean install of all of my apps.

I am considering temp rooting my phone so that I can remove/freeze some bloatware, but I am not certain how it will work. Given that temp root goes away if you reboot, will the frozen/removed apps be unfrozen/reloaded it time I restart my phone? Does it make a difference if I use Titanium Backup to do this or is there another method that makes the freezing/removing permanent? I am not ready to fully root and S-OFF my phone since I am already on my second unit and I need to make sure I wont be sending this one back as well.
I want to remove bloatware as well.

So anything you have done requiring root will stay that way (in this case freezing apps) after you lose root when you reboot?

Are you sure about that with temp root and s-on? Irc, you need to write to something to freeze apps and have them stick.

Go to settings->apps->all apps and disable them. You might have to uninstall updates first

This works with most apps except AT&T ready2go or whatever it's called.
If you want all the AT&T stuff off root, get titanium backup, back up the apps, and then freeze or delete.

TB will attempt to delete in Chuck Norris mode, often unsuccessful. If you are rooted there are multiple ways to delete the ATT bloat including some scripts. Check the developer forum.

Do you plan to root ur device ? If yes then when u install custom Rom, carrier bloatware is removed or if you want to be on stock while rooted and remove blootware then you need flash mod
From beast called HTC One X
This is my first android and it took me a week and a half to decide to root and unlock and man am I glad I did! It gets rid of the att garbage and gives you a number of options and upgrades. Root your phone and unlock bootloader, all the direction and help you need is right here.
Thanks for the info to disable them.

Is it possible to root the stock ICS rom (1.27 hboot) without wiping all of the phone's data? I was going to root my wife's sensation and install a custom rom, but she's been using it for almost a year on the stock un-rooted rom and she'd like to backup all of her apps as well as their data with titanium backup before hand so they can be restored on the new rom. All of the rooting methods I've seen all require a factory reset or wipe so I was just wondering if there was a method to achieve this that I have overlooked. Sure am glad I unlocked and rooted mine way back before the ICS update, heh.
I back up with titanium backup pro, you can do a batch restore of the apps and data with that. Also you can save files to computer and restore from there. What exactly is she not wanting to lose.? If it's files just put them on the computer and then restore from there, if it's applications titanium backup will take care of that. Hope this helps

I know all of that, that's what I want to do. The problem is that Titanium backup requires root. How can I backup her apps and data if I have to wipe the phone to get root in the first place? I just need a way to at least temporarily gain root so that I can run titanium and create the backups. Then I can unlock, s-off, flash a custom rom, install titanium and restore the backups. All of the methods of rooting that I've been able to find require a factory reset/wipe so all of the data and apps would be gone, making it pointless to run a backup.
Oh I understand now, try my backup from market it does not require root. Sorry I misunderstood. Hope this solves your problems.my back up will do the job. Simply search in market for My backup.
