I lost my root it seems after flashing a T-Mobile RUU, How do i get root back?
If you are still s-off just flash a recovery from bootloader. If you are s-on then read one of the root guides and start from the beginning

ya i got it back. had to reflash clockworkmod and then flash the latest super user, thanks though
I am really a noob at rooting, though there are easy steps. However this confuses me. So if anyone can find a very good guide for rooting my Sensation XE running on ICS, that is noob-friendly.
EDIT: All I need to do is to downgrade my HBoot version to 1.17.xxxx - but I want to find the easiest way to do that.
EDIT2: I unlocked my phone's bootloader. Doesn't help with S-Off though. :/
I will have to wait for Revolutionary to update their tool so that my phone can S-Off (since my phone is 1.27.0000)
May I can downgrade my phone back to Gingerbread, but how? And it looks risky, will that can brick my phone?
I'll press the Thank button if your post is helpful enough.
I have found this to be a very useful guide with ICS https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KEQCpmcLGjbkeLmVU0mpLSwZvjNqLSAmNBqyKMus3Ag/edit?hl=en_US
You may also want to check youtube for the unlockr video tutorials, they typically refer back to xda, but will help if you need a visual reference.

Maybe you will try to use Unlock Bootloader from htcdev.com but I can't make sure because I already S-OFF before rooted. But if you find a way to S-OFF you may would like try method above which I use.
I hope you have been s-off before update because unrevoked won't support it right now. If it show LOCKED on bootloader, this is how I root my Sensation XE.
1. Unlocked the phone using htcdev.com account since no other's method seem possible right now. But if you device already unlock you do not have to do this.
Go to hTCDEV register, click "Unlock Bootloader" and follow the instruction.
2. Install custom recovery, since htc recovery won't flash/install flashble zip correctly. For this I use "Android Recovery Manager". Reboot the phone after unlocked process. Connect the phone with usb cable. Open the Android Recovery Manager > Start > ** Download a recovery ** > HTC Sensation > ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.0 (Pyramid) > follow the instruction on the software. If stuck when device reboot to flash hboot but not yet flash it because can recognised the FASTBOOT(Android Recovery Manager waiting for FASTBOOT). Take out battery, reconnect usb and boot to FASSBOOT.
3. Flash the supersu, as the Android Recovery Manager finish flash the ClockWorkMod you have to install Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip. If fail retry flash 2-3 times, but I am just done 1 time, before on GB I flash two time because fail at 1st time. And now you rooted and reboot your phone.
Try at your own risk.
Summary :
Download Android Recovery Manager and Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip, place the Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip on sdcard. Unlock the phone on htcdev.com, install custom recovery with Android Recovery Manager and flash the supersuser.
* use Superuser version 3.0.7 because the lower version won't support ICS. Use link given and download the right version.
I am using this method on Sensation XE, so try at your own risk. I will not responsible to anything happen. And please do make sure you backup your device first.
# Just hit the thanks button so I and other's will know this method also work for you ;p

ok so i just got this phone a few hours ago... so far ive used the HTC tool kit to unlock, flash CWM and gain root. fastboot says im still S-ON though but im unlocked and can confirm i have root access so is it safe to flash a custom ROM? my H-BOOT is 1.45.0013 & sw # is 1.63.531.2710RD. ive read that i can flash GB roms no prob but just wanted to make sure so i dont screw something up. thanks

Yes, it is safe to flash a ROM. Unfortunately, you'll have to extract the boot.img from the ROM's zip file and flash it through fastboot, however, since S-ON does not allow flashing the kernel through CWM. There are several stickied threads that show you how to do so in the Android Development section.

I've looked all over the forums, but i can't find an answer, could someone tell me if i can root my phone using SuperOneClick?

HBOOT - 2.00.2002 (PG8810000)

It was originally like that, haven't done anything to it
Your HBOOT says that your phone is S-OFF, which means you have full access to it.
On the other hand, not knowing your OS version, I'm not sure you can root using SuperOneClick - since it only works for Gingerbread.
Since you have S-OFF, just go and find "root for S-OFF users" thread in Development and do what is written there.
Download a rooted custom rom (usually a custom rom is rooted) then flash via recovery. You'll have your DS rooted.
Sent from my Desire S
Since your DS is already S-OFF you don't need SuperOneClick. You can root by flashing SuperSu from a custom recovery. You may already have a custom recovery installed by the person who S-OFFed your phone. If not it won't be too difficult to install a custom recovery. I recommend you 4EXT touch. You should also make a nandroid backup from the recovery of your current ROM before attempting to flash an alternate one. Titanium backup is also very useful in order to be able to restore your apps and their data after flashing a ROM. The pro version in worth the money.

Since your phone is S-OFF, you can flash a recovery with fastboot from your PC. It may not be necessary if a custom recovery has already been flashed to your phone. Check your recovery before proceeding to flash a custom one.
Once you have a custom recovery installed, your can flash SuperSu from this recovery to your ROM. You'll then have rooted your current ROM and will be able to make backups before trying to flash alternate ROMs. At minimum you should make a nandroid backup from the recovery ; it will allow you to come back to your current ROM in case your not satisfied with the alternate ROMs.
But take your time and read the stickies in order to be sure you understand what you are doing before proceeding further.

Not necessarily at all. Regular bootloaders, even when S-OFF, don't allow fastboot commands. If you try executing it on phone that was S-OFF-ed with XTC-Clip, for example, it'll fail.
For that the bootloader has to be re-engineered (or engineering bootloader flashed).
why exactly do u want to root your phone? do u want to flash a custom rom or do u want root access for the heck of it?
if u want to flash a custom rom then i suggest you go through this thread

i thing best for u is to unlock ur bootloader flash r ecovery and superuser , flash a custom rom and follow this guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318919 good luck
Hey folks, forgive me if this is the wrong section but i could not find a section dedicated to the XE, only the standard sensation and XL.
I've done some serious looking arround and there are so many guides & tools across the various guides i'm confused. Some require htcdev, some don't and other stuff.
What i'm looking to do is simple
Permanently root the my phone with NO custom recovery (but the option to do so later cause it will be rooted) so i can still receive official updates because the HTC Sensation XE is scheduled for a android 4.1 or 4.2 update
My basic phone stuff is:
HTC Sensation XE
Android 4.03
HTC sense 3.6
Softwarenumber 3.33.401.154
Hboot 1.27 if i recall correct
What's the easiest way to do this.
Rooting procedure for sensation and sensation xe is same...

you can use htcdev unlock method to unlock the bootloader or
use this guide to S-OFF
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
Every guide, rom or tweak for the 'normal' Sensation will work fine on the XE, as it has the exact same hardware. The XL has different hardware though.
That first link already "confuses".
first it starts talking about doesnt need htcdev unlocked bootloader, 2 lines below it sais it does need it. Then it links to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614617
I am registered on HTCDev.com but my device isnt listed, only the normal sensation (eu). I suppose i can pick that one? Then even further down that thread it talks about a new version that only requires temp root, or even a wire trick
see where i'm getting confused?
I'm on the stock rom (and plan to remain that way), no s-off (i was rooted when the phone had android 2.3.4 but flashed the update before i rerooted so i lost root). I'd rather not unlock the bootloader to void warrant and just gain s-off to be able to install superuser from the android market, cause i know thats the tool that actually grants aps root access
Actually if you have done htcdev then use the guide you mentioned
But if you haven't done htcdev then use the guide i linked to you
About temp root it must be done in order to have success for S-OFF
In any case follow the guide to the letter
Edit:you said that you were rooted when you were at 2.3.4 android
That means you did S-OFF with revolutionary method
Are you sure that you aren't still S-OFF;

So i should first try the HTCDev method?
Confirmed i'm no longer S-OFF, the update to ICS 403 failed because of the CWM recovery that got installed. I had to reset to factory settings in order to flash it, but after restoring i forgot to root again and straight updated to ICS so lost the root.
I've read the juonuptbear guides and thats the whole point of confusing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614617
under requirements:
* Be rooted (have superuser and/or an unsecured boot image installed)
aint that the whole point of gaining S-OFF to GET root access? How can you be rooted before. The HTCDev only unlocks the bootloader, it doesn't give root access. I didn't say i've done HTCDev, i'm registered to do it but havent done it yet cause my device wasn't listed and was unsure which one to pick.
Then there's this
but it's always recommended to follow HTCDEV unlock way as the wire trick there is easier

See my whole confusing thing? I need simple instructions
As said i only want root access with no custom recovery so i can continue to get phone updates. If there's a non-stock version of like CWM that will let me do that well either is fine.

it means that after htcdev unlock method you have to be rooted which means installed also custom recovery in order to use this S-OFF guide
so you don't need that in your case
so you have 2 options
use htcdev and leave it as it is or
use ganeshp S-OFF guide(i haven't seen anywhere for installing custom recovery or maybe i am so blind!)

because the guide you posted requires htcdev unlock method
also the tool that provides, you are using it to install custom recovery and then use root
i mean that you can't use the tool to root your device without installing first custom recovery
so proceed with htcdev unlock method
Well since i linked a few guides, would you be so kind to link me the one i need to do what i want to do. Then in this case best solution is my way of soff.. Guide Link in my signature..
In the pre-requisites of the unlimited.io official site you can skip the htcdev unlock part.. As this is special case..
1. just follow the guide to the letter... Then once soff is done.. Do the one clock root tool that's all
(the reason I quoted to do HTCDev unlock over this method is because the wire trick is kinda easier that way.. But you don't want HTCdev unlock and custom recovery so.. Just do what I said)
