Odin not working? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

So I rooted my phone with SuperOneClick, then tried installing CyanogenMod, but it kept failing. I read somewhere that reflashing the original kernel via Odin could help, so I tried that, but it failed. So I restarted Odin, tried again and it got stuck at "SetupConnection". Eventually I just restarted the phone, but that was a terrible idea, as now I can only see a screen saying a ROM installation went wrong, and to use Kies to fix it. BUT I can still get into download mode, but Odin is still doing the same thing.
Anyone know what's going on?

Your posting in the wrong section homie.

Download Mode Error

Having a rather annoying problem.
I decided to give the ICS leak a try, and did as instructed: Cleaned the cache & system files in recovery after making a backup, booted into download mode, used Odin to install the ICS Leak. Everything was working flawlessly. Booted back into download mode to install CWM Recovery. After about 5 minutes of nothing happening, my computer BSOD'ed on me with a memory leak error.
Here's where the problem started; I rebooted my phone, and the download mode was different, the "error" version:
"ODIN MODE
Product Name: SGH-I727
Custom Binary: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I've looked into it extensively, and tried several different methods. The first thing I tried was uninstalling the drivers on my computer, restarting, installing the drivers again, and reisntalling. Than I tried using the stock tar file for Odin. BDOD occurred with the same error.
Tried switching USB ports and USB cable, and doing the above again, but the same BSOD occurred.
I've also tried just flashing the stock Kernel, and again the same thing.
I've tried about 8, maybe 9 different methods. I've never had a BSOD on this computer (Asus G73SW running Windows 7). I'm not sure if I'm just having really bad luck, or doing something wrong, but I could really use some new recommendations on what to try. :/
Thanks!
Try a different computer. I can't see any reason ODIN would cause a BSOD. Has to be something on ur machine. Try killing everything on startup and disable any AV and give it another try.
<insert witty signature here>
I made the silly mistake of not checking the md5 when flashing ics. Got the same error. I had an incomplete version that was malfunctioning. Dont worry, its fixable. First off, use a different pc.Download the ics one click and flash again. Once running flash root with odin. The important thing is to use a different pc (its probably not odin)
Also, this is a dev section. Odds are this will be closed. Next time post in general or Q&A.

[Q] (Q) Downgrade frm CM 9 back to gingerbread and bricked [Resolved, please delete]

I tried going back to gingerbread using Heimdall 1 click and it gives me a kernel error and failed. Now phone won't boot past the rogers logo. Any suggestions? No samsung screen. No green battery indicator when plugged in. Heimdall does detect the phone, and I've tried all USB ports and cords at my disposal. I use a mac so no access to odin. This is the first brick I haven't been able to get myself out of. Any help you would be appreciated
I am a gt i9000 owner, but can you get into download mode?
Sent by Santa Clause
If you can get download mode, then flash a gingerbread stock rom, even if it means you will lose root still do it, then flash a new rom of your choice, if you can get into download mode then you haven't got a brick

Been bricked more than once...you have?
Embarking on a fresh new ROM without educating oneself can be very frustrating....since your on a Mac..with in the one click you say it reading your phone...can you get to download mode?
Pull battery
Plug in USB to phone
Hold both volume button
Pop battery back in
Do you see...the yellow Android digging?

I can get into download mode.heimdall detects my phone. I tried both qksters and adam outlers 1 click. neither would take. If I upgrade heimdall version (as it tells me its out of date) it wont get through the initial connection to the phone. if I use with out upgrade it continues to fail on kernel download.
This is my second brick (first one was when trying to root it on my mac) First brick was fixed through odin at my work. Unfortunately I don't want to wait till monday to have a functioning phone

Hummmm..ok
Let's step back here does out prompt you for drivers?
....you might have to make a stop at your office..
Try different USB ports, I used heimdall yesterday to go back to gingerbread (so I could get the boot loaders) and I had the same problem as you, I finally got it to work with a different USB port and even then it kept failing...but I just kept trying and eventually it went through
(Pull battery, place battery back in, hold volume up and down, plug USB in-should put you in download mode...even if you can't see anything on your screen you can still enter download mode)

DOesnt prompt me for drivers. It detects my phone and says ready to flash. I see the download mode screen. so its not completey screwed. Just can't get past the rogers logo.. I only have two USB on my macbook.. tried both quite a few times guess i'll mess with it some more. see if I can get it going. Thanks for the tips. ANy others ideas would also be appreciated
Alright, here it is:
I encountered the same problems yesterday, heimdall doesn't work when flashing back to stock from ics, from what I've found, you must use gtg's ultimate unbrick, the pit repartitions everything and also resets your binary counter (cha-ching! ). Once completed, your phone will reboot and be stuck at "...installing default apk files..." for a few minutes, don't panic, let it run its course. From there on, you can do the usual root/flash cwm deal. .

Agreed. On my desktop (quad core 6 gb ram, watercooled blablablabl) can't run heimdal nor Odin to save its life.
My netbook (single core atom) took me back from CM9 with Odin like it was nothing.
My 7 year old laptop (running Ubuntu) works great using Heimdal (just run the .jar file as an executable)

No ... understood..no worries...there are some many that have never flashed or much less read anything regarding flashing are having so many prob`s...when this ics it's still bring birthed...for the infuse.
Instead of going to the dev section and doing some home work...understanding the basic info....they see ICS and have pictures of Sunday treats....in their mind...having no clue about the current ROM they are on now...Then the questions pop up...from individuals...after wards yelling SOS...But hey it's their phone.

I've flashed lots of roms and never had any issues. Also looked through the forum and know the basics about getting back to stock. I'm no expert, but I have a decent idea what I'm doing. I do appreciate a forum you can ask questions though and have people help out when your stumped. I did what i could from the tools I have at my disposal here, and ran into some problems. I'm not yelling SOS, just asking for some tips as what I have tried hasn't worked. All the same I do appreciate everyones opinions and help they provide. THat's what makes this forum great.
why would you need to heimdall if you are on a rogers infuse? Isn't that for AT&T phones only?

[Q] can't get into download mode

hey gang. have a samsung galaxy s2 i727 (at&t).
tried using the odin 1-click to install ics, but something happened, everything froze, and now i get the dreaded "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
kies won't read the phone, and i'm not sure how i can get into download mode to try and flash the original rom with Odin as some other threads are directing me to do. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Have you tried rebooting the phone with the charger attached?? That always puts me in download mode

i was able to get back to stock using odin 1.3. i'd much rather be on ics, but the 1-click odin isn't working for me.
i'll have to look around to see if i can get a tar of the rom.
thanks!
I went through the same thing. I just flashed the rom as soon as Odin recognize the phone and done deal

When the phone boots to "firmware encountered an issue message" you still in dl mode try the ics one click again or just push a custom recovery and flash a rom
Edit: if possible be sure to ALWAYS check md5 to ensure proper download. That goes for anything you flash to your phone

Yup - figured out the DL mode thing. Just had a bit of a panic at first as the screen is pretty foreboding and it was my girlfriend's phone.
I went from, "Give me your phone, dear. I'm going to upgrade it and be your hero" to "Stop yelling. I didn't break your phone. Just give me a minute to figure out how to fix it."
My problem with the ICS one-click is that the program said it was done, but the phone just hung on the "downloading ROM screen" for 20 minutes. Now that I know how to fix the soft-brick, I want to try it again. The lady, however, doesn't seem too eager to hand over the phone. =]
Wait until she goes to sleep. Shell wake up to a surprise.

[Q] HELP PLEASE: Need help with what I think is a soft bricked phone

Hi, can somebody please help me?
I tried to use Odin to return from a custom rom to a stock rom and after following the instructions to do so, something happened and now im getting the following:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I727
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (1: counts)
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
firmare upgrade encountered an issue.
Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again
and now my phone only boots to this message
.
I am using ODIN 1.85 and it seams like it can read my phone but gets stuck on <ID:0/004>Setup Connection...
I was following this instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
I have read similar theads but found that they get CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO and CURRENT BINARY:STOCK, tried to follow those instructions but im guessing its not working because its not the same issue
is there a way to fix this? please help... don't know what to do

Hey guys, I dont have the exact problem, but i do think my skyrocket i727 is also soft bricked. Ive been researching allot since i dont know too much, and i dont wanna risk my phone dying on me. Any help will be greatly appreciated. While at work (currently deployed, so i can't go into an AT&T store) i used my friends charger to charge my phone. Ok, i put it were all the sockets are, that i always use and have not had any issues with. And it didnt charge, so i plugged it into my friends laptop. I see on my phone the blinking battery, and continue to use my gtalk. Had to step out to work, disconnected the charger and continued on with my day. A few hours later i took my phone out and noticed it kept on vibrating while the screen was black. Took the battery off put it back and nothing. Then took the battery out for like 2 3 hours, and again nothing. It will jus go to the 1st samsung logo, then to the second and go black, then vibrates every other second. I'm going crazy because i dont have a memory card and am soo terrified of losing my pictures and videos. I have read and have had the guys i work with help me, and one friend downloaded the Odis program, but before i use it, i just want to make sure theres nothing else I can do. Again ive read the steps, understand them, but will it delete my pictures?? I apoligize for the length of my thread, just trying to give as much detail as possible. I have never tried to modify my phone, so its still in its original form. Please help. Thank you in advance. Have agreat day

last time this happened, after 3 hours of waithing on this message, my phone I guess crashed because it started to disply the original message I posted.
What should I do?
its been 30 min now... should I wait? should I unplug the phone and start over or should I just close Odin and start over?

Ya you need to figure out what has happened. Are you sure you have Odin setup correctly? you have the file in the right Box (PDA I think). Every other box unchecked except auto reboot..?

You extracted the TAR file from the zip?
yes, I followed all instructions posted on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398 and even reinstalled the drivers before beginning.
its still stuck there...should I just unplug the phone and start all over or should I close Odin?

Yes I think you can safely disconnect. You don't have Kies running in the background? And your phone shows up in the the upper left small window of Odin?
yes kies is not even installed and the phone does show up in the upper left corner of Odin

HELP with Soft Brick

So I have an old Infuse that my kids use and it went crazy the other day. Not sure what happened. Long story short I keep getting a boot loop at the ATT screen. This phone is not rooted and I'm not sure if it was on Froyo or GB. I've flashed every return from brick I can find on XDA. I'm using Odin and I'm pretty familiar with flashing/rooting etc. Can't figure this one out. The only thing I can think is the boot loaders are not the correct ones? Not sure, I keep seeing GTG's ultimate unbrick but all the links I get to it don't work. this is the only thing I haven't tried. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit to add: After I flash in Odin it goes to reboot then does the open update, verifying update, installing update, successfully installed update package.
Copying media files it says failed to mount/sdcard, can't mount /sdcard your storage not prepared yet please use UI menu for format and reboot. ??? I think that's the problem. How do I fix??
Just search in the stickies for bootloaders. That will solve your problems

Copying media files it says failed to mount/sdcard, can't mount /sdcard your storage not prepared yet please use UI menu for format and reboot. ??? I think that's the problem. How do I fix??

Tried everything and no go. Not sure where to go from here. Sure seems like a hardware issue.

You mentioned it's boot-looping at the Samsung logo - perhaps there's an issue with the power button.
Here's a couple of threads that may be helpful:

It goes past the Samsung logo screen then to the ATT Rethink Possible screen then keeps looping on that screen over and over. It charges normally also.

I would try flashing just a kernel (not the whole unbrick package). I have been in a similar situation and after trying everything imaginable that's what ended up fixing it for me.

This happened to me earlier. What I did was-
1 Went to full stock using heimdal one click, After completetion, U may stuck in bootloop in at&t as you said
2 Flash efs.zip found in the link below using odin. put efs.zip in odin and untouch any other setting and flash, (Ur imei may be previously corrupted so u got bootloop). This doesnot do any harm. So flash with confidence. If ur device doesnot show up in odin after u flash with heimdal one click , reinstal drivers with kies mini
Link for download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729838
3 Now u'll be out of AT&T bootloop if ur imei was previously corrupted.
I was in similar situation. And this solved my proble.
Hit me thanks if I helped you :good:
Thanks for all the advise. Still not working. Tried everything above and much more. Different things I do give different results but pretty much the same in end. Either sticks in recovery or boot loops one way or another. Really don't see how this could be related to software but you never know I guess.
