Glass lifting issue - HTC Inspire 4G

I returned it like 2 times now and the stupid thing is just falling apart on me every time. What have you guys done to fix it?

Just noticed mine doing this a day or 2 ago, the corner by the home button. It cant really be seen but you can feel it if you push towards the corner or push home decently hard.

Have not had this issue at all.

I have noticed that sometimes when push home button area. I can feel the glass "re-seat" back to where it should be. It's not much movement, but just enought to feel it pop back in. Love this phone, home it lasts another 14 months

This has scared me quite a bit a few days ago, I thought my screen was starting to fall off (it would "re-seat" when I pressed close to the home button, like bdaman80 said)... then I simply removed the sim card cover, and placed it back.
It's probably not the case if you had to return it, and its falling apart for real, for that I have nothing else to say other then, either take it back again, or search ebay for screen replacements to fix it yourself (some even come with the tools necessary).
Godspeed my friend!

I'll wait for it to get fully fubarred first.

Mine is doing it by home button too. Any danger of it coming off totally?

I don't see it coming off completely. Me and a couple of my friends have had the same issue with ours and mine has been doing it for about 4 months now. It hasn't got any worse.

Oh ok good to know! This is the second one because volume switch on the original broke (trust me. It made clockwork interesting with only volume down.) so I didn't want to have to try to send it back. Worse case scenario, I have to buy a new screen and put it in myself. best case scenario, it just bugs us all for the next 15 months until renewal time haha

Mines lifted from the search button just a lil

This.. (Corner by the Home button)
I got mine a few days after launch and it started doing it about a week later. There were a bunch of threads shortly after launch about it. Mine has not gotten any worse - and the bottom of the screen is even shattered now, has been for about a month. I don't think the screen is going anywhere...

Got mine in November. Haven't had an issue with it. Hopefully I won't.

My glass hasn't shown any signs of lifting. Have you tried a mild adhesive (NOT SUPER GLUE) to get it to stay?

Though today I did press near the search button and heard a....crack? Might have just been me but I certainly hope my glass isn't lifting.

I can feel the bottom left corner of mine had a little more give than I would like it to.

I think what I heard was the bottom cover through my case. I inspected the phone and it seems fine.

Dust Under the Screen

Well, guess what? My MT4G is about five hours old and there is already a spec of dust under the screen. On the phone with T-Mobile right now to do a swap. Why can't HTC figure out this dust issue? How hard is it to glue a phone together?
Update: T-Mobile had no problem swapping it for a brand new device because it was so new. Even after that dust under the screen is covered under the one year warranty.
I would just return it, I doubt that many have this problem.

A new one is on the way. I'm hoping this is not like my Nexus. Either way, that's what warranties are for.

Are we talking about extended warranty here? If so, sorry to burst your bubble, but the regular one year manufacturer's warranty will cover this also -- without having to shell out that extra $6 a month
I had grey specks under my screen and I made her the exchange the phone.. the sales girl (a teen ager!) said she didnt see anything, but when I showed it to her in the sun she said "I would never notice that" (like I as being anal! LOL!)
It was the WHITE version...
I've seen other reports of this too. Best to inspect well upon receipt or in store before leaving.
Mine appears to have an issue with the FFC - it looks to be off center to the right. Works fine, but a QC issue for a phone the caliber of this and not impressive for HTC.

I had a single spec of dust under the screen, upper left corner. the girl in the store saw it as soon as I showed a white screen. exchanged it for a new one right in the store, no questions asked.
manufacturing defect? I guess. hope the screen doesn't have some gap that allows in lint because I carry the thing in my pocket all the time.
yep...got a mytouch 4g/hd today aswell. didnt get a chance to play with it until now, about 6 hours later. Smack dab in the middle was what i thought was a dead pixel. upon further inspection its a particle of dust or whatever. super super annoying. i have to exchange the phone and hope this one doesnt have this problem.
any way of removing this foreign particle w/o voiding anything?

Mine is the same, but it doesn't bother me.
I got my mt4g yesterday. First thing I did was look for dust under the screen. Had another mt4g on the way within an hour of getting my first one. The bad part is I got my phone direct from Tmobile so I have to wait for it to arrive. On the brightside they did free express this time.
Anyone got any images showing this? I dont see anything on mine but its only a few hours old and I got it late at night and I'm so tired I'm not even inspecting it that much at the moment. Will go over it tomorrow.
i use to work on LCDs. Basically the clean room wasn't that clean when they were putting on the polarized layer. There is not anything practical you can do to fix it.
Anyone know who the OEM for the LCDs are?

I never buy the extended warranty but I do get insurance. Considering how many times I've used it, it's been worth it.

No this is a QC issue. There are gaps between the metal bezel that surrounds the glass and the rubbery material that covers up the sides of the phone. The dust/lint that got under my screen was definitely from the device being in my pocket.
I solved this by getting a nice case from T-Mo ($35 but it's sexy) to cover the exposed area. Haven't had a problem since.
I was going to get a mytouch 4g to play with until the nexus s came out. I played with one at t-mobile store and nothing really impressed me. After reading the mytouch 4g thread it sounds like HTC is still making crappy phones. Sounds like the same N1 issues all over again. We used hairdryer to heat up the glass then press the screen back down. I had to do this will all three of my N1's.

Crappy phone? It's one of the best Android phones out right now. There are a FEW people having issues. Happens with every cell. Guess the MT4G isn't for you. I'm loving it!
I also have found a spec of dust it doesn't bother me but I'm worried that it'll get worse over time

I have the tiniest, most annoying lint particle underneath my screen. As of now it is located far left. Seems as if it could make its way to smack dab in the center of my screen though. Kinda sucks but its so tiny you only notice it in full contrast to a white background if you really focus.
a single grey speck of dust in the top right corner, near the clock. Thought it was a dead pixel, but its there even when the phone is off. can only see it if I look really hard into that spot

both of my thunderbolts did leak light on the bottom under the soft keys. It was like little dots of white light.
I guess I got lucky. My tbolt hasnt had any issues really. The only place i can see light is when i tilt my phone down, i can see it under the buttons but when looking at it from a normal angle i cant see it at all.
Same here. Only when I tilt and look down under the keys.

Thanks for this post. I went ahead and did this, it was a small light leak on my phone around the bottom so I just used the silicone around the bottom and used a little bit extra around the corner where the search button is and then just sat there putting some pressure on that section to hopefully seal up the screen a little better. Now it looks perfect and I have no leak, so I don't need to worry about dust getting inside!
Thanks dude!
I think i will be trying this out sometime this weekend.
Mine has the aforementioned light towards the bottom edge of the glass, although it doesn't really bother me enough to do something like this to fix it.

I think its important to mention to look from the screen direction towards the buttons, not from the bottom of the phone towards the buttons.
Mine also shows two lights when I do that, but nothing on the bottom edge where the OP solution would fix it.
I would bet this voids your warranty

Glad it worked for you.
As for warranty, it could possibly void your warranty but only if the tech sees it. You dont want to tell them that you did this! I did it on my 1st thunderbolt and then noticed that I had a dead pixel on the screen. I exchanged it for a new one without issue and the tech didnt notice that i had done anything with mine. I was careful not to get the silicone into the speaker grill or buttons so the fix actually looked stock. If I handed you my phone you would not know that I had done this fix unless I told you what to look for.
Personally I think that they should have done this at the factory to begin with.
I know for this some people might rather return the phone, but everything else seems to be perfect for me. GPS seems to be working good, no dead pixels, etc so doing this was alot better than putting it back to stock S-On, unrooted, and getting another and possibly having the same problem or more.
Why bother. The phone has to be tilted any who.

HTC Sensation problem?

Okay this is really not big deal, but just though I'd tell you guys and ask y'all have the same thing on your sesation phone
When I press the screen hard, but not like its going to damage the screen, when I do, the screen or the back cover casing don't seem to be tight enough that its like loose.

They made the battery cover just a little higher than the battery because after years of using your phone and charging your battery, the battery begins to expand. Its to accommodate the expansion of the battery after a year or so of using your phone. Be happy to hear it!

Are you sure? It would have to expand quite a bit.
I've put a piece of paper in mine for now, fixes the problem nicely and doesn't affect signal or wifi strength (I was worried it might).
It's a bit ridiculous but I rarely remove the back.

You can leave the paper in it for now, but ever 4-5 months or so, pull out the battery and spin it on a flat surface, if it spins, your battery is swelling, which usually comes with age. I'd say after about 1 1/2 years you can buy a new battery if you really need to, but for now, your good!
I'll keep that in mind for the future then, interesting.
Yup I have the issue also. Actually after reading this thread, I wouldn't say its an issue but perhaps a manufacture glitch. Guess we just have to deal with it.
Had this issue with my sensation. When I pressed the bottom right of the screen it creaked and clicked like there was a gap or the battery cover wasn't on the whole way. Funny thing was this started a couple days after having the phone and didn't do this at first. Just exchanged today and new one has no probs atm
Actually for me, the only creaking sound I hear is when I press the buttons on the bottom, especially the home button. But I have to press it kinda hard and towards the bottom left.

Starting to hate this phone build quality...

On my second one it continually manages to get huge specs of dirt under the screen.
The screen its self is starting to become unglued, when I press certain parts of the screen I can feel it lift and raise.
The most outer part of the camera glass wiggles when I put my finger on it.
I've already replaced it once due to a dead pixel, what do I do now?

Mine's being very sturdy. I do have a bit of dust under the screen, but it's almost unnoticeable. Beyond that, I've dropped this phone from about 2-3 feet onto concrete or stone 3-4 times and I don't have anything more than a few superficial dings on the corners, and a small chip in the screen at the bottom (it doesn't hamper performance in any way imaginable so I don't care). I do hate the battery door. THAT was a horrible design flaw.

I suggest you find a case that can cover that chip if at all possible. I can tell you from previous experience that is where you will get a cracked screen from. I've had two htc phones where I got a chip on the edge of the screen then dropped it and ended up with a cracked screen.

Nice tip that does make it a little easier, now what about the sim card cover it can be even worse, any tips on that one.

[Q] i think my screen is defective.

My screen looks amazing, all the colors look well saturated, etc no ghosting that i know of. but there is one issue.. whenever i press on the right bottom corner the digitizer actually presses on the LCD and makes that weird magnitized look when you would press on a new TV LCD or laptop LCD.. if you have a laptop or new tv you should know what i mean lol. This exact thing happened on my old HD7 with the same size screen. i seem to have problems with phones with 4.3" screens lol. ive had every mytouch phone from htc and the g1 and none have had this problem. even my atrix didnt have this problem and its a piece of poo.
Does anyone else have this issue? i mean its not a HUGE issue since you never really press down the right bottom corner but still. it bugs the crap out of me knowing its there. i would hate to send it back and wait weeks without a phone too =/ i bought it from ebay for $270 used with scratches lol so i wonder if they dropped it or something.
another weird thing is when i take it out of the battery case the problem is even worse because the phone case is kinda loose so the screen pushes into the case? i might buy a case mate case and see if it stops the problem..
also, where the problem is.. the screen colors are still perfect. its just when i press in that area. id be fine with it if the problem didnt get worse. it did on my HD7 though
Just the way its made unfortunately. Case isn't gonna make a difference. What worked for me (not completely. gone but significantly reduced) was put a little piece Of paper in the case is that corner and ever since I haven't seen it. You have to press pretty hard to see it. Hope that helps.
