Can someone explain how to save original rom from Milestone XT720 ?
Thank you and sorry for my english.
It may be easier to download the ROM image directly from Motorola using these links

I didn't have this idea, thank you for the link.
I came to ask the same question, I have a S/W version that is not found on that site.
My S/W is: STR_U2_05.1F.2
My carrier is Wind Mobile in Canada
I just want to ensure that I can flash it back if I have any issues with Dexter's 2.2 rom.
Also does anyone know if the network name will stay the same without an original Wind configuration. ie. right now it says "WIND Home" or "WIND Away" to tell me if I am on their network or roaming.
I am also looking for the default stock Wind firmware

It's the SIM and the network that tell the phone what to call the network. I'm using Dexter's 2.2 ROM from the US Brightpoint sbf (I'm on WIND but when I tried to flash to the Korean sbf from my stock WIND ROM, it just constantly FC'd). As of now it's showing me "WIND Home".
I am also a Wind customer. I previously messed up the bootup files on my phone, so I had to flash it. I used the Cincinatti Bell ROM, i believe, from the site with all the SBFs (sorry, don't have it with me ) I can confirm the ROM works identically to the previous WIND rom, with some small differences. One notable one is that the system's voltage seems to be higher (usually between 3.9 and 4.0), when the stock ROM seemed to read a bit lower.
I am going to install Dexter's rom over the reading week, how has your experience been with it so far, Iced? Great to know that it will work on our phones. Did you have to re-add the APN after the flash?
Sorry, I used the Brightpoint ROM. Not the Cincinatti Bell one!

Nope, didn't have to deal with that at all. As far as my first day with this ROM, its been good and bad. I had the same Facebook contact sync issue happen to me (not super important, already have to numbers I need in the cloud, sync is just slightly handy for a few things), and that my text scrolling would not work at all in any textbox (very useful in my opinion). The biggest issue would have to be Google maps taking a nosedive. It has a "Login Failed" error just after you open the app and it becomes sluggish and unusable after that. Had to uninstall after it started to FC and slowed my whole phone down (Went from 28ishMs to around 10 or less Ms according to my taskmanager). Might re-flash my phone or redo Dexter's nandroid backup if this keeps up and start fresh and clean again, didn't have a lot of luck with my Titanium Backup. Beside all that, great being able to use voice search, native apps2SD and the other FroYo goodies
Hello all and especially to any that can help,
I recently purchased a Droid X from a co-worker who had upgraded to a Droid Razr (carrier Verizon, Android 2.3.4, model MB810). I found out later that the phone had already received the .621 OTA update and was unrootable (someone may have found a method by now).
I did 2 days of researching before I attempted any changes in the phone and found that although a reversal of the .621 update was impossible (again the info on this may have changed), the Milestone X's sbf could be used. I downloaded the flasher program and 2 sbf's for the Milestone X, tried both and liked the larger one better. The phone now reads as a Milestone X (carrier Alltel, Android 2.3.5, model MB809).
The question I have is "what is the best custom ROM to use with this device"?
Cares and Don't Cares:
1) Carrier: I won't be placing this device on any carrier's network - Wifi and Bluetooth are good enough for me. I will be using a hack I found on these forums to be turning off the carrier radio later. This also means I won't be needing this device to have any phone functionality. This is basically going to be used as a mini-tablet replacing my 3 Craig tablets (#1 broke, #2 has damage to a daughter board - I think a chip burned out, #3 is refusing to reliably boot, made #1.5 from parts of #1 and #2).
2) Bluetooth keyboard connectability: The only program that hints at this is Bluekeyboard JP and it mainly uses Apple products. I have a Freedom i-Connex keyboard I would like to use and maybe others in the future.
3) Multiple mounting points: Currently this device only offers 2 points, even after rooting: a fake CD-Rom, and the sd-card. If there is a way to create a folder/directory and make it USB accessible, I would love to know how. I use my portable devices as reference file storage.
4) Reduced bloatware: I won't be needed phone software (see #1) and I don't need the prepackaged games nor social software (they cause more trouble then they are worth to me - namely see the news about TWD - texting while driving - accidents, social website enabled stalking, and other physical and informational damage). Also, other than program(s) to backup the installed ROM/RAM (Nandroid?), no prepackaged backup program (seen that most people prepack Titanium, I like Astro file manager better).
5) I know this one may be next to impossible to get; WINE: emulating a whole OS just for 1 program is wasteful. I would love to have a mobile copy of "DC Creator" (character and gadget builder) from Mike Love for DC Heroes and Blood of Heroes (Mayfair Exponential Gaming System program, I updated the dc_data.dat file to include new powers from Blood of Heroes and the Web, file is now over 70k).
6) ICS: I know that people are working on this one for this device, several problems to go (like the camera), and a thanks goes to them for even attempting this.
During my research, CyanogenMod 7 and 9 kept coming up. If I read my info right, these are not actual OS updates but instead mods that give some next gen functionality to the current roms (Froyo gets Gingerbread mods, Gingerbread gets Honeycomb/Ice Cream Sandwich mods). I haven't tried either yet so I don't know if any of these would help me or load my system down more.
My thanks to the whole device hacking community for enabling us to get the most out of our devices (whether it be android, iOS, PSP, PS2, ..... you get the point).
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get as much info to whoever could help as possible.

Miui or cyanogenmod9
this roms are perfect
Thank you for the information. I'll dl both next time I'm near a high-speed connection (dial up at home sucks, thank you CenturyLink for avoiding my area for yet another year).
Hmm, MIUI appears to be only useable if you are upgrading from Froyo - I'm Gingerbread and I don't know if it will revert back to Froyo - remember this phone has already received the infamous .621 OTA update. It was probably a fluke I found that the Alltel SBF worked. So MIUI appears to be out of the question.
The Cyanogenmod 9 links I found appear to be dead when I checked from work (blocked?), but I also found no information on requirements. I see that you need both that and the Gapps files to use this.
Has anyone else gone the path that I have to SBF and root my device (Verizon Droid X Gingerbread 2.3.4 -> SBF -> Alltel Milestone X Gingerbread 2.3.5, rooted) and applied a custom rom afterwards?
Anyone have complete instructions on how to install CM9 for the Droid/Milestone X ->still a noob here<- that has taken the same path as me (and any further information on getting the camera working, last update looks to have been in February)?
Thanks again for any help.
Anyone know of a stable download link for Cyanogenmod 9?
All links I have found are either dead (404), 'server down for maintenance', or access denied (403).

Has anyone tried this rom yet?
This ROM and not tested but by what a discussed in DFT, this ROM v5 has the following problems on all devices .... but everything is a matter to prove you
Here the deficiencies found by me:
1 - When taking a picture with the camera with the flash on at night, the image is dark (like no flash), but if you turn off the flash photography is normal and this is devido the flash has a short duration.
2 - Activating the WI-FI sometimes fails and you have to disconnect and turn again to return to work without problems.
3 - Sometimes the xap file implementations fail, but this problem is sometimes .....
PS: Sorry for my bad English, Thanks
I just installed it and noticed two things right off the bat. This doesn't include the latest updates from Verizon. The phone still prompts you to update everytime you sync with Zune. Also, internet sharing doesn't appear to work. Everytime I try to enable it, it gives me an error. It worked in v3 and in ansars rom for me.

Happens with Ansars rom too. That one is on 8773 (Tango). The update is for HTC drivers that these roms dont/cant have. I have not found a way around it besides every time I connect to Zune, I have to watch, then hit cancel.
The WI-FI is an issue too, WHen you enable it, it some times does not work, just shutting it off and turning it back on fixes it for me. Same with Internet sharing.
Seems like all the Custom roms for the Spark_W have that issue... I'm still on Ansars rom, it's working great over all, I have not found a reason to change.
same issue - I could not get Internet Sharing to work (mifi). It worked when I rolled back to earlier versions of this rom. Is there something I am missing to get it to work on tango build?

I think it's just botched in the Spark_W version of this rom. It wasn't an intermittent issue when I tested it, it would never work despite reboots, wifi state, etc. If you need internet sharing, try one of the other Spark_W roms.
I haven't looked into the problem too much, but if he used Verizon's new wifi driver but just added the internet sharing policy (because I tired to do that too in my own rom testing), it fails.
Now, I was looking at taking a wifi driver from another phone/carrier setup that has the fixed driver and internet sharing, but I haven't been able to find a stock rom of any HTC WP7 that has internet sharing enabled.
I mean, I was able to drop a wifi driver into the phone from the HTC Titian and GSM Spark, and the Spark_W was able to use both drivers, so I think the wifi driver could be fulled from a different phone to make Internet Sharing work with fixed MAC address issue.... I just need to find a driver that is already working and don't have fast enough internet to go around footballs rom threads to find one.
I'll have another Spark_W soon, after I repair it, I'll finally have a phone to test crap on without taking my primary Spark_W down (this is one reason you haven't heard/seen be doing much lately.. its just a pain to take my phone down!).
If I were to figure out a fixed wifi issue, I was planning on sharing it with all rom devs because this issue is probably not just on Spark_W.
Is there an alternate download link? FileFactory claims this file isn't available for download.

Your Zune Pass should also work on your phone. Mine does..
Cheers..
Rom is working great, however I have one questions.
how come when I unlock the phone, its always at what I was doing last? I would prefer it to just be on the home tile screen, at the top. If I lock while scrolled to the bottom, its still down there when unlocked.

it does work on my phone... just I use it on my ZHD, and my wife and daughter have there ZHDs on it too so I cant add my phone as the 3device limit (im on the old ZunePass plan so I can have our three computers on it as well) I prefer it on the ZuneHD as I have docks everywhere, and in my cars the premium car kits going to the AUX, and it sounds good. I don't like leaving my phone laying around jamin tunes.
Question, great rom but for some reason, downloading xaps in IE will download but it will not do anything when I touch it, it used to install it. Any idea on how to fix it ?????
Hello everyone,
I have GPS problems with the latest release "Slim-xt925-4.4.2.build.4-OFFICIAL-3648".
GPS is not available with GPS status or GPS Checker apps and I can't locate myself on maps.
When I run maps for the first time after installing Slimkat with CWM 6.0.4.4. (from my original rom "JB 4.2.1 vodafone-en" which is adapted for SFR (french provider)), GPS works well. But when I change gps parameters, or just change gps function with the widget controller, GPS doesn't work anymore.
I've got the same problem with other roms like CM11.
By the way, this release of Slimkat rocks in every point. Stable, fast and well build. Love it. Except that GPS issue. Don't know what to do.
I've read that it works with "dirty flash" or location could be blocked by "privacy protection" app. I also read a topic about the same problem but for Samsung galaxy S4 and peoples are talking about flashing the "pit". It's something I never heard before on XT925 flashing method. It may just belong to samsung flashing method. Or not.
I try to find a solution on many XDA thread and on other forums but nothing appear clear or understandable to me.
If someone have any clue about that GPS issue, it would be a great pleasure to read you.
Cheers.

I'm with same problem..... Still didn't solve that....
It was a bad commit on their last stable release. If you would read the Slim thread, you would see that they are aware of the issue and are working to fix it.
Given the age of this phone, I simply wanted to ask a question on the last, best ROM that brings this phone to the most recent Android version, and provides security fixes? The newest ROM I can find is the Carbon ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/myt...ent/rom-carbonrom-mt4gs-april-8-2015-t3077527 based on 4.4.4, and is newer than the Virtuous ROM I have been using on this phone (4.0.3), as I believe that one of the most recent ROMS that supported TMobile wifi calling (although I'm now on Google FI). I don't use this phone as a daily driver, but I do try to keep it updated, and available as a spare.

Even under the circumstances (lack of activity on the Doubleshot forum - RIP), the question remains very subjective. I still keep my Doubleshot/"media player" up-to-date as much I can, and post the new builds, but it seems I am the only one here that is doing that. So the questions intent (instead of army of one) reads to me as the best over time. Still, it depends on what your needs are.
If you need the latest security patches, there seems to be only one choice. If you need maximum functionality of the device, you would be locked into stock or stock-based (e.g. MikTouch), if you don't care about either but want a balance of performance and features, then there are a myriad of ROM's out there still (TBalden's CM10.1 still leaves a special spot in my heart).
Mind you, the latest available still is not infallible. There are currently two vulnerabilities that can act as a vector for QuadRooter, and one of them may not be fixed (I patched the file as per the guidelines, but it is still picking up on that vulnerability) without having to upgrade the kernel (I attempted a build with a 3.4 kernel, and I'm running into includes/undeclared problems I don't know how to fix). If you use only the Play Store (that is, only verified apps), it's not a problem, but I wanted to share the latest detail at any rate.
