Last best ROM for this phone with most recent security fixes? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Given the age of this phone, I simply wanted to ask a question on the last, best ROM that brings this phone to the most recent Android version, and provides security fixes? The newest ROM I can find is the Carbon ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/myt...ent/rom-carbonrom-mt4gs-april-8-2015-t3077527 based on 4.4.4, and is newer than the Virtuous ROM I have been using on this phone (4.0.3), as I believe that one of the most recent ROMS that supported TMobile wifi calling (although I'm now on Google FI). I don't use this phone as a daily driver, but I do try to keep it updated, and available as a spare.

Even under the circumstances (lack of activity on the Doubleshot forum - RIP), the question remains very subjective. I still keep my Doubleshot/"media player" up-to-date as much I can, and post the new builds, but it seems I am the only one here that is doing that. So the questions intent (instead of army of one) reads to me as the best over time. Still, it depends on what your needs are.
If you need the latest security patches, there seems to be only one choice. If you need maximum functionality of the device, you would be locked into stock or stock-based (e.g. MikTouch), if you don't care about either but want a balance of performance and features, then there are a myriad of ROM's out there still (TBalden's CM10.1 still leaves a special spot in my heart).
Mind you, the latest available still is not infallible. There are currently two vulnerabilities that can act as a vector for QuadRooter, and one of them may not be fixed (I patched the file as per the guidelines, but it is still picking up on that vulnerability) without having to upgrade the kernel (I attempted a build with a 3.4 kernel, and I'm running into includes/undeclared problems I don't know how to fix). If you use only the Play Store (that is, only verified apps), it's not a problem, but I wanted to share the latest detail at any rate.

Nice thread, maybe you can list what's available (making difference between A700 & A510) splitting by 2 categories : Acer ROM based, AOSP ROM based
Cheers
new user here, so what's the best ROM for A700s? alot of people seem to be on the iconian but it seems the developer is gone, so I guess it should be the cm10.1 version by pawitp?
don't plan to do alot of gaming on it, mainly for magazine reading & web browsing since i've amassed a whole lot of unread zinio magazines which I've subscribed using the free codes they've been generously giving me over the last year.

Not sure what happened to vorbeth and iconian. Most of the roms have been around for awhile, and not a lot of issues.
pawitp has the CM which gets updates.
There,s a rootbox version, and Iconian. Iconian runs Acer build.
As with running Acer builds, we're dependant on Acer to push updates, which unfortunately doesn't happen often. However, in my opinion, there's less incompatibility issues with games. Just my opinion. This is why you don't see a lot of updates on the roms. Example, I'll push my first update since release. Audio improvements for folks that appreciate good audio. A little theming, and custom Acer ring.
I'd say flash them all, and see what works best for you. You usually know within a day or so, if you like the rom.
You are right, I flashed them all. Somehow stock is faster than CM & Iconian but your ROM is the best Thanks
I flashed CM10.1.3 RC2 to my A700. Has been working well and I really enjoy the new features I gained coming from stock. Most importantly for me CM gave me a higher touch sensitivity which drastically improved my user experience and was the main reason I switched to CM. It can have some lag tho.
I was thinking about flashing the kiteman V4.1 kernel to see if it helps with the lag, but I need to verify if the "Very High" touch sensitivity option will still be available. If anyone can advise it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I was thinking about flashing the latest Evil Alex ROM because I have read good reviews. Again, most importantly I need to verify whether touch sensitivity will be increased comparable to CM10.1. Perhaps Moscow Desire or boringest you can inform me?
I would say pawtips' CM 10.2 worked best for me so far. The performance is great and feels far less sluggish than stock, which I had before. Also not having all the branding stuff from Acer also improved the device a lot

i just do some experiment,
replace CM 11 /system/bin/rild with CM 10.2 rild
adding build.prop line with:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/libhuawei-ril.so
rild.libargs=-d /dev/ttyUSB2
one hours trying A701 playing rock music album from Apollo, check on off powerbutton every
5minutes ,
Screen-off problem not occurs yet
but another problem with 3G
*A701 can see network, but 3G Data not connected (3G icon signal bar full)
*set DNS > No network DNS: blank , ip : blank
*wifi works fine
hope someone check CM11 rild file for us A701 users
You should ask @pawitp

Hey A700 users. I'm helping a friend and offered to patch up his A700 from what appears to be stock Android 4.1.1 Build Acer_AV051_A700_1.052.00_PA_CUS1. This does not appear to be the 3G model. I don't see anything in the ROM for mobile networks, and what appears to be the SIM slot next to Micro SD looks like it has a glued in plastic tab in it, not user removable without a bit of force.
So, looks like I need to unlock bootloader, install TWRP/CWM, and choose a ROM which is where my question is aimed. I'm wanting to choose a ROM that is mostly up to date, but also does not have any hardware issues. It appears that CM 12.1 has issues with HDMI which I would like to avoid.
I'm looking for in priority:
1) All hardware working (no workarounds, or other things I need to add as a "if this happens go here and do that" kind of stuff)
2) Stable
3) Up to date.
It appears a lot of ROMs are not seeing much activity which is understandable due to the age of the tablet. I'm keen to just flash this once onto something that is a good daily driver and be done.
After some additional digging I'm thinking about CM11: https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_a700
It's strait forward, I know CM well enough....
I still have my old A510 wall mounted for home automation on CM11 4.4.4 . But the problem is that I can not install newer applications. Any way to get newer version of android on it?
FYI, I just installed our last Android 6 build (https://builds.unlegacy-android.org/aosp-6.0/picasso2/) to my A700 that I'm giving to a relative, as I believe it is rather stable. It's the last stable Android version for this device (Android 7+ has various graphics issues), and it uses kernel 3.4. It can be used with an up-to-date TWRP, such as: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/a51x-a70x-aka-picasso-2-recovery-twrp-3-1-1-0.2678284/.
I'm sure there was a thread for it here, but I just can't find it now...
I upgraded my A700 from latest official CM11 to above mentioned unlegacy build. Unfortunately since then I'm experiencing massive audio distortion so that I had to revert back. Is there anything I missed or anyone with same experience?

Hello! I have my Desire S for more than 3 years and it's really wonderful that it has fresh updates thanks to you guys! Great work! Maybe one day it'll be Lollipop also on our device
I've been using cm-11-20141006-UNOFFICIAL-saga for about 2 weeks, it had "no camera" error, some lagging, but it hadn't "mic error", wifi, gps problems or something else and all in all it was good for a daily use. Then I decided to flash the latest build - cm-11-20141020-UNOFFICIAL-saga and from the start it has problem "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped"
I will test your new builds as possible and very glad to help you.
com.android.phone
Installed the latest version of CM11 works, but again an error "com.android.phone".
com.android.phone

There is ver.2 for testing
During development MoKee for DS, I do not know how Ruling solved the problems on warning no text context during flashing Rom and Calling problem on his ROM development. I remembered he has the same problem on version prior to date 08/08/2014.
So far CM11-2014-10-24 is providing users with fast responsive, smooth and stable, however, it is still contained some bugs considerable minor for me in comparison to the mentioned functions. On top of that in SuperSU, list of managed apps which require SerperSU granted is easily shown up when open SerperSU of which none of CM11s for Saga has provided even popular CM11-MoKee 2014-08-09 which provides users with responsive, smooth and rather stable is still not provided this feather which I consider as important as other. If the ROM is not providing the feathers as it is supposed to be, there should be some bugs preventing that feather to normally function. However, considering the machine itself is also far from perfect when using ROMs that it is not orginally assigned for, bugs is not avoidable; besides ROM software itself has to be developed to suite many kinds of apps from various developers. So developing software for variety of favourite is a hectic task. Android phones, for me, small ROM with small algorithms with less complexity should be a good ROM since it provides a direct access rather than going around. I have been testing many kinds of ROMs including sens, JB and Kitkat for a while and decided to stick on Kitkat rather than sens or JB. For old machine like Saga, if users could ignore some minor bugs and battery drainage in comparison to sens or JB , Kitkat is considering a good choice of ROMs around. I mainly used MoKee by Ruling after Devin Kin stop his development and found that the ROM still has some bugs such as list of apps allocated by SeperSU did not shown up and occationally lag and hang up. I found this version of ROM kindly developed by Kylon and sHAKajaada has suite my needs. Thank you very much.

It is working by itself, there is no need to fix, calling can be heard on both sides. Kylon has compiled with his fix though. The problem, I have so far is Wifi Ap, I could not figure out how to enable it, because Kylon has disable WiFi Ap.

The feature on SuperSU of which I mentioned that app permission list is not function on CM11-MoKee 2014-08-09 now is working perfectly after updated to new version of chain fire. This problem should be related to SuperSU itself.
Installing CM11 on HTC Desire
Funny thing my answer seems to go to a different thread, but nevertheless...
In the "Unofficial CM11 for Saga [06.10.14]" thread ManishGade described a blank screen after installing CM11. That may happen when boot.img has not been flashed, especially if there's a stock ROM there.
Moving from stock ICS 4.0.4 to CM11 on HTC Desire S:
1. Unlock bootloader (HTCDev etc)
2. Download cm-11-xxxxxxxx-UNOFFICIAL-saga.zip
3. Replace upload-binary (inside the zip) with patched version, or you'll get "set_metadata_recursive" error (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532300)
4. "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", with 4EXTRecovery_v2.1.3RC4 (none of 1.0.0.6 I found worked for me - the screen stuck on "HTC", that's why the trick with upload-binary was needed) - http://www.4ext.net/get.php?f=4EXTRecovery_v2.1.3RC4.zip&device=saga
5. "fastboot flash boot boot.img" with boot.img from the CM11 package
6. Go to the 4ext recovery (battery out/in, VolumeDown+Power, Recovery)
7. Wipe data, clear caches, install the CM11 zip package.
Regards,
Thanks I installed it last monday.
When my waranty on my desire ran out I installed Cyanogen 7.2 even though it is old it is brilliant. Last Monday I decided to install CM11 unofficial for Saga. Also a Brilliant Rom!

Need help finding a ROM for my OPO (maybe)

I've spent literally days and days reading through threads about various ROMs, I'm hoping someone who has more experience with OPO ROMs than me can point me in the right direction - looking for a solid ROM with these features baked in:
Good ad blocker
Privacy guard
Best or close to best battery life
Can set system font
Solid : doesn't crash or have nasty wakelocks / memory leaks - want a phone that spends most of it's time nicely SLEEPING when it's in my pocket
Most of the ROMs I've looked at seem to be missing one or more of those basic features? I was thinking CM 12S will be good, but then was reading about layers and they were saying the CM theme engine is not so good in terms of security or efficiency compared to the layers theming system?
I like CM 11S pretty well at this point, but I realy want to get behind (support/use) a great ROM that comes with something like AdAway pre-installed because I want to see good ad blockers included (built into) more ROMs and I want to support that. It's deeply discouraging to me when I can't find a great ROM with ad blocking baked in. Same with Privacy Guard - I don't think any ROM should come without Privacy Guard or equivalent baked in!!!
Thank you so much for your help/advice - believe me, I HAVE searched and read many threads, but I expect there are thousands of other people who have had their OPOs for weeks or months longer than me and can give me some solid advices!
Please resist the urge to simply tell me "Just try ROMs for yourself bro!" - I have done that before (on my Galaxy S3) I probably tried about 30 - 40 diff ROMs on that phone. At the moment, I look and read when I can, but before I flash I'd like to know if there are least a couple that at least have those basic features, and if not, I wonder why?
My best guess at this point is, I will need to stay with CM 11S and ad Xposed? I used Xposed a couple different times, but most recently it broke - the device still works, just Xposed was no longer compatible once it got an OTA update... I haven't put Xposed on my OPO yet as I didn't have much time for making backups/restoring re-flashing the phone in case it gets messed up because I have my kids over spring break for the next week and a half.
The only issues/missing features I'm currently experiencing with 11S are: haven't figured out how to set my system font (or perhaps my old type of font file is no longer compatible?), don't have adds blocked in apps yet, and I want to change the color of my clock in the status bar. I will go ahead and read through threads about putting Xposed on OPO - hopefully it can be added on 11S without causing any glitches?
Oh, and my [stock/unlocked/rooted CM11s] phone is not yet working for LTE - I have Walmart Family Mobile and I recently read that they have begun supported LTE. Sometimes it's just 3G and sometimes it's H+. I will call their support sometime over the next couple days because so far all I did was move the SIM card from my S3 to the OPO and perhaps it's not properly "provisioned(?)" for LTE yet? I say that because I watched one video on Youtube where a guy had to take his OPO to the AT&T store and put his SIM card in another LTE phone, then when he put the SIM back in the OPO, LTE started working on it.
Try Vanir-Exodus, there's a link to it in my signature. It has all those features except setting the system font (which I think you'll have a hard time finding as a stock feature in a ROM anyway), and the battery life is fantastic. Plus, it's mostly original development unlike a lot of the other ROMs out there which just cherry pick commits.

I was all set to try Exodus - but then I read some users mentioning some problems, and I think there was some important feature(s?) I wanted missing, so then I thought - oh, well I'm actually mostly happy with 11s.
The only things missing from 11s for me ATM are 1)haven't found how to change the system font yet,Adaway doesn't seem to block all the in app ads, and it doesn't come with Xposed "baked in".
If Exodus comes with Xposed pre-installed, then wouldn't that let me change the system font?
Basically I want to: set different system font, make the status bar clock green, and not give up Privacy Guard or Profiles - and of course not have to use a ROM with poor stability or poor battery life. My purpose is for the phone to be most enjoyable and useful to use, not to try a different ROM each week and find lots of bugs/glitches/wakelocks/missing features. I went through that with the S3...

Honestly, I haven't had a single issue on Exodus. It doesn't come with Xposed pre-installed, but I'm not sure any ROM actually does. It has Privacy Guard, and it has Profiles. Battery life is excellent and it's as stable as they get.
Blisspop, or basically any ROM with CM themes do let you change the system font (it's part of themes).
like Team Nocturnal's latest ROM. Smooth, no bugs other for me. Never tried to set the font as of yet.
Every 5.1 or higher ROM I've tried had been buggier than EVERY 5.0.2 or 4.4.4 ROM I've tried.
I'm really hoping that some 5.1.x ROM comes out soon without apps crashing, graphics glitches, or wakelock problems.

Which ROMs?
"Setup"? You're not suggesting that I should try without choosing a more reasonable DPI or give up on using the system font that I always use, or put up with ads or wakelocks, are you? Those are what I see as "basic and essential features".
I do "clean" installs and the only app I restore using Titanium Backup is "A Better Camera Unlocked". I use features such as Profiles, Users, and (hopefully) the ROM's built-in AdBlock (otherwise I use AdAway).
If a ROM requires that a third party patch be used to fix wakelock problems, then I'd consider it an "Alpha" at best?

No I'm not suggesting that at all. I use a custom DPI (370). I use Adaway. I don't use a custom font though. Keep in mind that certain DPI's can and do cause major issues, so you might need to tweak that a little. As far as wakelocks go, no, I wouldn't consider them an Alpha at all. Wakelocks can be found in stock ROMs from the major OEM's, and isn't always caused by the system, quite often they can be caused by third party apps, and apps from within the gapps package.

So, I have a Pixel 3 which I bought hoping that sooner rather than later I would be able to install a custom ROM and have a Google-free device.
As I'm new to flashing ROMs etc, some questions are in order:
1. I've been searching the XDA forums and it seems there aren't yet that many ROMs for my device. Any recommendations? Everybody says Lineage is a stable ROM, but as of now there's only an unofficial build. What are the issues of going for the unofficial? Should I just wait for the official or try another ROM?
2. I'd like to, if possible, not install GApps. Would microG enable me to: (a) use my bank's app? (b) be able to remotely lock and/or wipe my device in case it gets lost or stolen?
I think that's all for now. I had not used Android since 2012 and though I'm enjoying the control I have over my device and availability of FOSS apps, the privacy implications of this close relationship with Google is really bugging me.
Thank you for any help and clarifications you can offer.

Question Best custom rom for stability?

Hello there, i recently unlocked my bootloader and i'm ready leave MIUI for good. Therefore i was wondering which custom rom is the most useful for my personal use.
I rarely play games and the ones i play are light-weight and not demanding games. I usually browse social media and watch movies.
I don't need many extra features, stability is the most important thing for me.
So i'm looking for a ROM that's close to stock android with a few nice features, that's stable and hopefully battery-efficient.
Thanks in advance.
If You dont play games and want a stabile room go for Arrow OS ,If you want customization go for dot Os ,Cr droid.
I have the same user profile as you: looking for a stable ROM, with OTA updates.
So far as I've read the internet out there, most people go for Xiaomi.eu (for MIUI like experience) or ArrowOS (for a more pure Android experience).
But, of course, there's plenty of other options.
I'm more willing to go for Xiaomi.eu, but I would like to hear other users' experiences too.

ArrowOS version 07-09-2021 in the best one regarding smoothness and stabilty, however latest builds (from 07-23-2021 included) aren't good, scaling governor was changed for the worst, and since they switch from stock to their own vendor it have some relevant bugs.
tl:dr: ArrowOS 07-09-2021 build, both official or vanilla. Also LineageOS once it will become official can be a good choice.

Could you elaborate a bit and share your experience?
Cr Droid has some bugs when I tested , arrow is good but not the best , I recomand Dot OS 5.1.1 it's more stabile , now I'm on Pixel Extended and is working grateful .

My phone comes with Xiaomi EU , and is not grate ,you can go if you want but is the same ****t experience from MIUI ,go for Dot or arrow because MIUI EU is not good .
Edit: is very heavy 5.2GB and not good for games ,and has a very resorce consuming UI .
ArrowOS get worse with every OTAs so no, I won't recommend ArrowOS for now.
LineageOS as listed in its thread has its bug and with only one OTA so far, I can't judge if is good long run yet but with my past experience using it on other phones, it has been great. Still, those are by different maintainers so only time can tell.
From my experience, the best one in terms of stability is CrDroid, i can't find significant bugs on it.
I have 0 issues with ArrowOS no idea what are you people talking about. If about the CPU governor scaling it's intended and i dont see any issue with it, battery life is about the same and it's more fluid. Furthermore it's only matter of time and every custom ROM will be based on OSS vendor so better get used to it.
Can you explain how exactly it gets worse with every OTA?
As long as ROMs keeps get updates, there's always chance getting bugs or issues when update, so there's no "Best custom rom for stability".
Don't update if the ROM is working well makes the ROM stable.
The most stable ROM is the ROM that don't get updates. Everything is always the same. Bug is the same, issue is the same, security vulnerabilities are still there. So stable .

Personally, I am a power user and the first problem I encountered is how difficult to install Viper4AndriodFX on ArrowOS and only to learn that the "sound feature" is in conflict with it. Most roms don't have such "feature" and when I report such feature is in conflict with other sounds apps, they simply reply "not my problem". Imagine microsoft telling you drivers not working on windows because of a "feature" isn't their problem.
Now, moving on to my first OTA, not the scaling update but the one before that. The first problem I notice is it broke one of my google app, I had to reinstall and reboot 3 times to get it working again. I also do root my phone, if is not obvious enough from the previous paragraph. While the ota did reinstall the magisk but that's that. My bank apps and whatever apps stop working (detecting root) even though it was fine before OTA. Fortunately, google app start updating plenty of apps (not the banks ones), I don't know which apps are the main culprit but it start working again. Now that's a problem, do I have to reinstall all the apps every time I do OTA?
Now, moving on to the previous OTA, the scaling update one. You say is intended but with my experience so far, I call that bs, more like when they syncing with kernel source, they replace the value from that kernel source. Furthermore, "governor" exist for a reason and if you gonna interfere with the job of "governor", why have "governor" in the first place?
Now, looking at the bug reports in ArrowOS page, other device is experiencing "NFC" issues. Now that a big one, I don't know about your country but my country has been utilizing contactless payment for years. While it isn't this device that is bugged but it does worry me.
If you do not have any issues, doesn't mean others don't. It could be just that you don't use your phone extensively like others or you not a power user. Last but not least, you are not the only user and I do appreciate if you don't ridicule others' users feedbacks just because you don't have issue yourself. This statement also apply to @pl1992aw.
All your "issues" (except CPU governor which is not issue or a bug) you have mentioned are related to third party mods (Viper4Android and Magisk specifically).
Also FYI - NFC and Gpay works without Magisk, i use it daily with 5 different banking apps (Nest, Santander, Paypal, Revolut and Gpay). So maybe next time before you blame the ROM try using it without mods?
Also you just discovered why majority of devs ignore bug reports coming from users which are using mods, including ArrowOS. https://blog.arrowos.net/how-to-report-a-bug/
WHAT NOT to report!
Bugs which are present in unofficial builds or anything that is nit downloaded from our official download server.
Asking about device support, unlocking bootloader, getting TWRP installed and similar queries are not encouraged.
Bugs on a device which has root priveleges from SuperSU, Magisk, Magisk modules or any other rooting methods that exists etc.
Issues which suggest feature requests.
Issues which suggest supporting a new device which we do not own.
Bugs which arise after replacing default apps.
Bugs in devices which occur in third party apps.
Bugs in devices we do not support anymore.
Bugs in ArrowOS experimental builds.

Ha ha ha I'm tagged.
I'm not sure which part you thought ridicules other users' feedbacks.
Maybe this part?

This part is mainly talking about updates of anything in general.
Example: Windows 7.
Windows 7 don't get updates anymore. Everything is always the same. Bug is the same, issue is the same, security vulnerabilities are still there. So stable.
When one updates from Windows 7 to Windows 10, there's many compatibility issues and many complaint from users.
So is Windows 7 not stable? It's still stable as it is and nothing changed.
So is Windows 10 not stable? It's still stable as Microsoft keeps fixing it and update it, but never Best stable, never exist.
Is it forced to update Windows 10 from Windows 7? Yeah maybe when it just came out, but not now. You can choose not to update. Some banking ATM is even still using Windows XP because of compatibility issues, but they also take the risk of vulnerabilities and bugs.
Is Windows the Best OS on the market? Well, maybe, at least from the coverage; maybe not, there's still whole bunch of complaint every time there's update.
What's the whole point? The whole point is that this kind of topic is dynamic.
When there's update with issues, "This ROM is bad".
When there's update that fix all the pre-existing issues, "This ROM is good".
When the new update brings other issues alongside with patch of pre-existing issues, "This ROM is bad".
Question - This ROM is good or bad?
Answer - Subjective and dynamic.
Be prepared with updates. This also applies to MIUI. How's the opinion when people update from MIUI 12.0 to MIUI 12.5? Why do you quit using MIUI?
I do appreciate if you respect one another users' positive feedbacks just because you don't have positive feedbacks.

Like I have said, you are not a power user or use it extensively like others, your experience is different to others. So, is the power users experience less than that of your experience?
Can you not ridicule other users' experience? Or is your experience more important than others?
Lastly, you seem to selectively read some of things as well.

I've been using Havos OS on previous xiaomi redmi 5 plus... and I think its the best out there... (big fan).... buuuut....I always end up finding some minor bug in ASOP/vanilla based custom roms.... and Havoc isn't official yet for the x3 pro.. so I've install Xiaomi.eu rom last week and I guess that the best rom you can get for POCO x3 pro right now...it's basically same as stock miui rom except you dont get all the anoying ads..and will get all the goodies from china based xiaomi rom

can't go wrong with it.... I've been using it for 5 days now.. you wouldn't even notice its custom rom until you check "My device" in settings...
-it comes with MIUI dialer which enables call recording... (which was kinda important for me)
-no ads.... all bloatware removed...
-some stock 'MI apps" (files/email/music/video app) can be disabled (I strongly suggest not to root uninstall them if you don't want issues with future updates)
-minimal preloaded google apps (can be installed from store if needed)
-can be updated easily with a dirty flash from what I read from the website
-also chances of having bugs are minimal since it's basically the same rom as stock miui rom
NOTE: first boot takes a while after flash...be patient....if its more than 15minutes...then its a bootloop. Mine took like 7minutes for initial boot; it will be laggy during the first hour of use as its processing stuff in background....but after that performance should be back to normal
