You can't put a kernel on without root.
Rooting the device...well unlocking it specifically... will wipe all of your data.
i already unlocked it n now just wan root it... will lost evrrything?

I am about to flash a rom from SamFirmware with Odin to my Rooted Galaxy Xcover. Otherwise, everything else is clear but I need to now one thing:
Can I flash a ROM to the phone with Odin and keep my rooting and sd card partition?
Thanks for quick your replies!
You need Odin
The Firmware vom Sammobile
turn your device in download mode (usually power and volume down)
connect via usb, turn on odin
select firmware and hit start
thats all. your root and your data will be lost. so do a backup before

If you wish to stay on Android 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 then you can unlock the bootloader using the procedure at HTCDEV.com and then follow this procedure to install CWM recovery and add su-3.0.xxx.zip to root the ROM.
Beware that by following the bootloader unlock procedure at HTCDEV.com, HTC has you acknowledge that by using this procedure is could void your warranty.

After you unlock the bootloader and install ClockworkMod recovery, you can perform a full 'nandroid' backup which will create a backup of your current ROM before being rooted. This will give you a point to restore back to if you need it.

Can somebody please tell me is root required for installing CWM or by installing CWM on an unroot device you get to root your phone? Its very confusing, I read a lot of posts but they confuse me more and many of them have the same post copy pasted from the same source.
if your are on ICS rom then CMW not required to root but if you are on jelly bean rom then CMW is required to root, use SP flash tool to install CMW
Thanks buddy!!
