I have RZRecovery.img for our skyrocket - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have a custom recovery.img for I-727 (other than cwm for tmobile...) after providing boot.img to raidzero. He put together the below attached (actually I can't load a .img file to xda but it an be found on pg. 13 of below thread) recovery.img for our device. Please follow his thread to screenshots, it looks like a very extensive recovery. I am currently fumbling through flashing this .img to my phone to test.
Anyone w/more no-how would be welcome to help get us going with a recovery of our own...
.img for our phone can be found in raidzero's thread below on page 13.

nobody interested at all???...

When I click on the link it wont download.
Edit* downloaded

I want to test it but I'm not sure how to flash recovery with .img file to be honest. I'm reading up to figure out how to make it a workable .zip to flash...any helpers?

You can do it with terminal or adb Forgot the steps. Had to flash recovery.img for the mt4g that way.

I created an Odin flashable recovery tar using the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329477
flashed it via ODIN, got stuck in a boot loop trying to boot to recovery. Had go to back into download mode to restore CWM to it and it's back to normal. thinking this img might be no good.

Here's the direct link the OP was referring to:
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...cket-rec.img&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13246935626625

I will attempt to flash via instructions provided bye da_g to flash via adb and post a follow up. The dev for above .img seems very active and helpful if its a bad .img I will follow up with raidzero

flash instructions per Da_G
I posted flash instructions below provided by Da_G via pm.
I would also add that Johnsondr80 has replied to pm from me expressing interest in this recovery so I imagine between Da_G and the Doc this will be figured out pretty quick...
Like I said I received the instructions below from Da_G; so if it works please thank him and if it doesn't, yell at me but use at your own risk.
put the image on /sdcard/ , lets assume you named it recovery.img, so it is at /sdcard/recovery.img
reboot to CWM
connect with adb shell
type dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
I think p22 is our recovery, i am not really 100% sure as I have not looked into creating one yet. But that is how you would flash it (substituting the proper mmcblk0pXX)

Sweet. Have you tried it yet? Im waiting on my battery to charge in case things go bad again
EDIT: i tried with dag's instructions, when i type the command it comes back and says no file or directory exists?

does this device use samsung's retarded initramfs compiled into the kernel binary? I do not know how to work with those yet. So far all I can support are recovery.img made up of a ramdisk image and a kernel binary put together...
Interested to see how this goes. I'd love to see my recovery on another device

oh yeah, if you just wanna taste it, flash this from clockwork...
http://rzdroid.com/ftp/recovery/gingerbread/2.1.4/RZR-2.1.4-universal-runme.zip
it will not change anything, just run it whenever you wanna use it. It replaces the RUNNING recovery with mine, feeding off of whatever recovery;s partition table is already in place on the device. It's built generic, so if this device uses a funky graphics library I'll need that and make a skyrocket-specific runnable zip until it gets flashable

Using the update.zip method is for an old version of CWM - get yourself the .tar located here and use odin to flash it, you'll never need an update.zip (you'll boot directly to red CWM instead of stock blue recovery)

Well I don't have a comp to use odin w but I'll dl it then just do it at my friends later was trying to avoid that but thanks

[Guide] [Recovery] [Heimdall] Clockwork Mod 3.1.0.1 Purple Heimdall

Heimdall CWM 3.1 guide
On Gingerbread, only flash Clockwork and not the Kernel.
Hi. I'm here to post a guide to installing ClockworkMod 3.1.0.1 on your Epic with Heimdall. I'm doing this because me and some other people had our phones bricked by the 3.0.2.5 one click root and this worked for me.
Step 1: Download and extract heimdall from here: http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Step 2: Boot your phone into download mode by holding the 1 key and pressing power after either a battery pull or simply turning your phone off and connect it to your USB Port
If You are running Mac or Linux, skip Steps 3-5. Your drivers install automatically.
Step 3: Open Zadig.exe from /drivers in the extracted folder
Step 4: Go to options> list all devices.
Step 5: Select to Install the Samsung Android USB Composite Driver from the list.
Note: It may say it has an unknown publisher (or something similar), ignore it. I am 100% sure that it's safe.
Step 6: Download CWM from http://drockstar.devphone.org/EpicTools/cwm3.1.0.1.purple.zip
Step 7: Download Drockstar kernel from http://drockstar.devphone.org/EpicKernel/DRockstar.Clean.Kernel.EC05.v1.05.zip
Step 8: Put the zimage from /kernel in the CWM Zip in the recovery slot
Step 9: Put the zImage from /kernel in the Drockstar Clean Kernel Zip in the Kernel slot.
Step 10: Press start and it should work.
It's quick and easy. Should only take about 5 minutes from start to finish.
I am not responsible for bricked phones or Michelle Bachann, or Sarah Palin or the Iraq War or the deficit, but I am responsible for cute puppies and rainbows and butterflies.
Nice dude this is good

Thanks for the support, bro.
Purple looks so much better than the old orange/green. Credit goes to Drockstar. All I did was make a guide for Heimdall.
Well, I can confirm this will actually work... I was planning on releasing an odin tar version of the cwm bml8 kernel, for situations like that.
To clarify the issue, sometimes when bml8 is flashed with cwm, somehow that partition gets borked, and once you try to 3 finger into it, the phone won't boot normally at all.
The quickest fix to this, is using heimdall with the phone in download mode, as described in the original post of this thread. You can just flash the cwm 3.1.0.1 zImage to recovery, as described to fix it quickly, without the need to flash entire stock tar, and erasing all your data.
I will make odin tar flashes for both the cwm 3.1.0.1, and the Clean Kernel, that can be flashed with odin, for those that don't have heimdall installed yet.
Also note, that I had a lot of bml8 flash failures in testing, when the kernel was rather large, especially when pushing the limits of what the kernel could handle. This has been the main reason for me slimming down the zImage sizes for both cwm, and the Clean Kernel. Since reducing the cwm and Clean Kernel zImage file sizes, botched flashes have been very rare.
Plus, when gingerbread official is released, the *only* way to root it, will be to flash a rooted kernel with odin or heimdall, since the exploits used by one click root scripts have all been patched. As of official gingerbread for the epic, expect no one click root scripts to work with it... something I've posted already in the general section, but I doubt very many people have read.

if you flash this rom to your phone and then flash the stock recovery , then you can get the update over the air. go to system settings/about phone and you will see a menu item called software update (or something similar), click that and it will download the update to your phone. its only like 30 meg, but it will update the 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 and install the new baseband

[VIDEO] FP5 Update Zip + Rooting Stock

I felt this warranted its own thread, and is pertinent to development. So here's to my first thread in the development section!
As you know, the Charge is getting an update to its Gingerbread stock ROM, titled FP5.
I was one of the lucky ones to get it early, so I pulled it out of cache and uploaded it to Dropbox.
So here it is:
http://db.tt/feigCZuH
If you want to try it:
You need to be fully stock before you can use this. This includes being on RFS. Then download, rename to update.zip, place on root of SD, and flash on the stock recovery.
To Root (assuming starting at stock FP5):
Download the CWM flashable root zip, found at http://androidsu.com/superuser/ (its rude of me to hotlink it). Download the whole package for ARM, not just binary (get 3.0.7-efghi-signed). Put it on your SD card.
NOTE: Most of us Charge users have found that SuperSU (Chainfire's replacement for Superuser) is much more stable on this device. I personally recommend SuperSU, but if you want to keep using superuser, it's your call. Installation instructions will be the same, just Google SuperSU and download the zip rather than Superuser.
Then, get the CWM recovery, and flash it via Odin. Uncheck "auto reboot". Unplug your device and boot to CWM, mount /system, then flash the SU zip (I would wipe cache and dalvik just to be safe).
Your device will boot and be rooted, however the CWM recovery will be overwritten. Get root explorer and search for "install-recovery.sh" (in /system/etc) Change permissions, delete, rename, or otherwise maim the script.
Finally, reflash CWM in Odin. Your device will boot and be rooted, with CWM Recovery, with in the stock FP5 ROM. Feel free to debloat to your pleasing.
You want a video tutorial? You're hard to please.
http://youtu.be/DXSmONvpkSQ
the introduction is VERY off sync. Please don't turn the volume up and scare the crap out of yourself. Sorry, I can't make it available on mobile, something about copyright infringement.
I'll be making an Odin next week, since a user requested it. Just have to wait until I get back from vacation... EDIT: Odins are already available. None from me.

You most likely have to be full stock to use it.

OK, so first off thanks kvswim for getting this out there so fast
Secondly, I'm out and about for a wee bit, but once I'm back at my computer (mid next week) I'll get to work. I'm not sure how long it'll take, but I always assume it'll take a while.
I would also like to put out a request. The last update I did I went through and updated every theme in tweaktools along the way. That took a LONG time, so I was wondering if there were any interested in assisting the theme update process. This will obviously not be relevant until I have the base all finished up, but if you feel you have some of the necessary know-how and are interested feel free to PM me. Most of the themes were made by folks that no longer have the device, which is why I updated everything last time. If I get a few takers I'll make a thread to keep things all organized as far as who is doing what, that way proper credit can be given to those that lend a hand.
Also, no worries if there is no interest/time to help. I have no issue doing it, it'll just take a bit longer.
Carry on.
I can probably make an Odin of this next week if anyone wants it.
Also dwith, I can't help you at all with the themes, I would need to walk through it at least once first. Never taken apart a theme.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium

Yes, there are radio updates in this. However I can't pull radios only until next week, and even then I'll need someone to help me.

There's a certain file that checks if your recovery "needs" to be overwritten by stock, and all you need to do is change permissions on that file. For the life of me I can't remember what it is though.
I would imagine that would help you with your root too.

Thanks to XDA Member noobfordroid we now have the original Boot.img and Recovery.img files that we can use to further our development for this great phone. I plan on taking a better look at them later today, but until then you all are free to check them out! noobfordroid would of posted himself but he doesn't have enough posts to post a link yet.

I ported the cwm recovery and tried to push it to the phone but it is giving an error.
[email protected]:/home/shyamalapati/android/out/target/product/p8010# fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (6904 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.707s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: Not Support !!)
finished. total time: 1.713s
fails to write smh have u tried to manualy write the recovery image using root explorer on the phone just replace the file in the directory ?
I'm going to have to take a look when I get to my mother in laws. Has anyone tried asking a developer for the Pantech Burst? There may be a simple solution to the issue that we are overlooking.

EDIT: Also, maybe the recovery partition has a type of lock? Similar to S-ON maybe? I'm going to ask some Pantech Burst developers to see what they have to say.
From doing a few searches with the error it seems to come up often in Pantech phones (other brands as well). It could be the version of CWM or it could just be a locked bootloader issue, or just a bootloader issue. I'm not sure myself but I'm getting my netbook set up with Mint and ditching the VM so I can find out myself.

EDIT: My VM is up and running now and I'm going to explore. From what I've gathered so far we need to unlock the bootloader to be able to flash anything to the partitions, this can be done with "fastboot oem unlock" I don't know if that command is going to be that easy but I'm going to check it out! If that fails then were going to need to tackle the bootloader first, also for the recovery, Rootzwiki has been a great source, and they have a tutorial for everything we are looking into, there is a command but I can't remember it right now in fastboot that allows us to boot partitions without them effecting the phone. We should try booting the recovery to see if it works, if it works we may need to flash something in the recovery to unlock the bootloader. I might be completely wrong but hopefully the unlock command works.

yeah sounds right youve had an evo before idk when but if ur one of the early users of the froyo root method we had to unlock a bootloader using a certain comand in adb to be able to downgrade to an earlier 2.2 that was rootable before the one clicks came out ill try to find that old evo tutorial and find that command lol there was a video i belive with it and the rootz wiki is what my other link on the other page was supposed to send u to i guess i missed a couple of words in the URL on that other page lol good luck to you keep us updated im glad the flex has gotten a community like ours that can use examples to start from scratch
Command should be "fastboot boot recovery.img". User attn1 from the burst developers said if it boots the recovery we should be able to install it with the recovery. I can also use fastboot on Windows in case anyone is interested. Also can we get the custom CWM posted?

@noobfordroid could you please PM us a link to your cwm recovery ? wow @jsterrling someone from burst actually replied ive been trying for a while now lol hope we can get this up and going using the fastboot command and that the security measures on this boot loader are not insane like that of HTC

Btw any of you heard about the pantech discover coming out soon specs are close to ours but with better hardware like camera and display
Yeah, I actually joined the IRC channel and left a message, he was nice enough to reply back right after I got off of work. I'm probably going to be pretty busy up until Friday with work, I took a lot of time off for other reasons but I'm going to try to work on unlocking the bootloader when I can. Fastboot can be used in Windows just installed the Google USB drivers that come with the SDK and all is well.
We just need a custom CWM which I guess I'm going to start working on unless noobfordroid can post his.

Yeah they're showing some nice phones now and this has to be probably the best smartphone I've ever owned, camera aside. They just need to support developers but as soon as they do that ill be a pantech customer for life.

cwm recovery
The cwm recovery i posted above is not working. I followed a guide online to port that recovery. Can someone post any tutorial for posting cwm?
Looks like we need to consult the burst.developers. did it just hang at fastboot?
