Please help - Samsung Mesmerize

I am trying to flash cwm and am currently stock but everytime I try out says the sdcard/update.zip doesn't exist even though I thought I moved the file to the sd card I am probably doing something wrong like didn't send the file to the right place and the answer is probably a very obvious one but would still appreciate It if someone could tell me how to do this

Using the update.zip method is for an old version of CWM - get yourself the .tar located here and use odin to flash it, you'll never need an update.zip (you'll boot directly to red CWM instead of stock blue recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021

Well I don't have a comp to use odin w but I'll dl it then just do it at my friends later was trying to avoid that but thanks

Is there a ODIN file for the Rogers captivate froyo 2.2? Is it possible to flash roms without the ODIN file?
Do I just flash the JF6 Stock [email protected] Kernel anyways? I'm kind of stuck right now, this is my first attempt to flash and I've already hit a roadblock can anyone help please.
Read this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905042
I downloaded that file, but couldn't figure out what to do afterwards. I watched the mobile tech videos and it seemed that he was able to just click on the file and open the odin, while when I try to open it says "can't find application to open" after I extract it. Also I don't understand why I have to flash back to stock when I'm already at stock.

First download odin from this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Open it first and then point it to your rom image that you would like to use, you don't extract the file you have, it's ready to use as downloaded.
Please watch the videos again because you don't understand it yet and you're well on your way to a solid brick.
BTW using CWM with a .zip is easier then Odin IMHO, and can be done completely from your phone, no computer needed, it will also let you know if you have the three button recovery ( very important if something goes wrong ).
Read, read and read some more. Flashing a rom is not hard but it does have to be done correctly. If you want an almost guaranteed result you'll do the homework and learn something. I've only been here a while and rarely do I see a question that hasn't been answered 50 times already, your answers are here, go look for them and you'll pick up other things you will need to know when you decide to be a bit more adventurous with setting your phone up JUST like you want it.
Thanks for the information, it looks like I got lots of work to do.. The link you sent me has a broken Odin link on the other side, do you have a mirror or some sort so I can get the file? Also my final question is that since I have a Rogers Captivate I need to JL1 file not a J16 right? I've looked everywhere but couldn't find an answer to this... Thank you.

do you want to install a custom rom?? like phoenix or cog? if you are already rooted, just install clockwork mod and flash it to phone... then reboot into recovery and choose install zip from sd card... then select 'choose zip from sdcard'. then find the zip of the rom you want to install. I'm a rogers user and I've flashed all the latest roms (currently using andromeda 2.0). Never needed odin.
oh I see thanks, I've tried flashing Cognition via ROM manager with no success. I had Cognition on my SD card, installed and flashed the Clockwork mod and then selected "install ROM from SD card". From their it makes me select my ROM and then after I do it takes me to recovery mode. From here I select Reinstall packages and it says something like "Can't verify file" in red writing and aborts installation. I've always thought that maybe since I skip the whole "flashing ODIN" step that's why it's not working but obviously that's not the case. Do you know why it's not working for me? Thanks for the help.
are you running rogers 2.2 update? it has 3e recovery and will not allow zips to be flashed.
if that's the case, you will need odin3 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821625
then put a new kernel in the PDA section. I used the tar file listed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870760
then with your phone powered off, sim card and memory cards out (put back cover on so the battery doesn't fall out) hold 2 volume buttons and plug in usb... should go to download mode. then hit start.
boot up will take a bit while voodoo formats ext4 on your files. after that, you can go into recovery mode and flash zips from sd card

Another thing for CWM, the zips must not be hiding in a folder somewhere put them in the root and do not rename them.
Thanks for all your help, you guys give this site the reputation it deserves.

thank the dev's who make all this possible by donating to them if you can afford it!
I have a quick question with this current Kernel Can I flash any type of Rom.. even the ones based on the i9000 like Paragon?
ps: would I have to to flash the stock Kernel/modem if I flashed back to stock?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905042
when you flashed cog it would have put a new kernel on there. when you flash a different rom they come packaged with one the dev chooses. You can switch the kernel after with sgs kernel flasher or cwm

btw rnewton, how is andromeda 2.0?, would you recommend it?, I really don't see many differences with cog, maybe because I already had froyo(it is much faster though, great work dg), also whats your opinion on phenoix rising?, I just recently downloaded it Do you have any suggestions if I wanted a really fast rom? How many roms have you went through? Sorry for all the questions, I just dont understand all the technical information that comes with all the rom information, maybe I should make a whole different thread for this. Thanks for all your help.

I just did this about 30 min ago to flash a battery mod and it works like a champ. As usual hold both volume buttons and power buttons down until samsung appears on the screen the release the power button. You will have to select reinstall packages twice then it will take you to the green modified 3e recovery.
I forgot to mention that once you replace the stock recovery with the modified 3e go into rom manager and flash the clockwork mod recovery for the galaxy s i9000. This will place the update.zip file on your sd card.
So thats great news, thank you! The only question i have is step two how.to i make it a.read/write system? My.imfuse.runs.fine with.stock i just cant flash anything but.it.does turn on.... And i have flashed cwm multiole times still no update file?

Glad you got it long day bro. Pm me if ya need more help
infused infuse helping other infused infuses?
You can mount the system with a file manager such as root explorer. The update.zip file will be located in your internal storage /sdcard.

Noobs guide of flashing

Hi I got a problem!
I cant download step one file (AW4R9NXSVO) recovery.bin
I get the error message content not supported on the phone.
Please help!

I think you're referring to Krylon360's CWM Final recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374) thread, not a flashing guide, right?
Are you downloading it from the stock web browser or from the XDA app? Regardless, once you have it, I believe you need root access to your phone before you'll be able to put the file in place.
If you're just looking to flash your phone, I'd suggest looking at the Bible here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554)
Stock browser won't download it. Get one from the market. Its easier to just Odin the Bali kernel anyway. Will save you some headache and updating

[Q] Getting Infuse into CWM

First off, i'm sorry if there are posts on this. I searched this site and Google to find my answer. I tried flashing the Infused rom first, the flash didn't work, I was stuck in boot loop. I eventually used Odin to get back to stock. I decided to go with the SuperCM7 instead to try my luck with that. I am rooted and have installed CWM through rom manager(galaxysi9000 as im sure you all know. I'm trying to follow the steps on infinitybiff's post(directions for flashing....) Anyways when i try to go into CWM recovery, i'm taken to the standard android <3e> recovery screen. Should I try downloading CWM to my sdcard and trying that? Any suggestions would be great!
Just manually replace the recovery file.
Could you guide me through that? Sorry im a noob.

no soup for you.
sorry had to do it. Seinfeld was a good show.
Hahaha, yes Seinfeld was a good show. No worries got my phone up and running, now to try this flashing crap again... OK, update.zip is on my INTERNAL SD CARD and still not booting into CWM. On the verge of giving up.
Did you try to manually replace the recovery file yet? ROM Manager doesn't always seem to work for it.
My method :
Flash the kernel+cwm by sgs kernel flasher apps.
if your rom.
Froyo > Community kernel v8
GB > Infuse-GB 1.0 kernel

after you have the 2.3.3 rom you have to go to tmobiles website and use the lg update tool
http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/G2X-Driver/index.jsp
then in owains rom thread their is a downloadable zip to use ics roms and what not with the new baseband im running his rom right now with it and not many issues at all besides the issues already stated

i used this thread. the download Rom link is a stock 2.3.3 rom. if you have already installed the driver to your PC you can skip those steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644
when you have that stock rom use nvflash to put the stock recovery back on your phone. reboot your phone and go to system settings/about phone and you will see software update (or something similar), do that and it will update your phone to 2.3.4 and the new baseband
Oh yeah thanks for adding the Nvflash part totally forgot about it

are you trying to flash the zip from the link i posted? if so, it doesnt work that way
it works like nvflash. you unzip the file into a directory on your pc. pull the battery from your phone and hold down the up and down volume buttons then plug in your usb cable, then in that folder there is a flash.bat file double click that to run it. when it is finished, pull the usb cable and putt the battery back in a boot your phone

on your pc. it works like nvflash does. you dont copy it to your phone at all. the batch file will do all the work. it will put your phone to stock 2.3.3, then you put a stock recovery on it (again using nvflash) and then you can do an over the air update to get the new baseband and be updated to 2.3.4

if you flash this rom to your phone and then flash the stock recovery , then you can get the update over the air. go to system settings/about phone and you will see a menu item called software update (or something similar), click that and it will download the update to your phone. its only like 30 meg, but it will update the 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 and install the new baseband
