Google Voice Not Working - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Google voice will not work with my skyrocket. I've cleared data, reboot, reinstalled, pretty much everything and no luck.
When it asks for voicemail service, i choose google voice instead of my carrier.
It then says "error - change to a new provider?" and if i choose yes or no it says "forwarding number change failed."
I really do not want to use ATT visual voicemail. Has anyone else encountered this error?

Mines says the same a long as you change it on your computer in your google account it will work.

9016 voicemail fix thread for Cyanogen Nightly Update users

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Just thought this would be a good idea for all of us having voicemail problems.
Post solutions and comments on developing a fix here instead of clogging up the cyanogen thread.
PS the spiicytuna method posted on page one of cyanogen does nothing to fix the 9016 issue.

Call the number included in the text you get. It will ask you if you have a sms voivemail phone or smth. Press one for no, and you stop getting the texts.

Tried that. You get a new text telling you to call a certain number to retrieve your voice mail.
Blacklist the number?
One way around it
Well. It seems you can go to Sprint and block the text message at the source. Just log into your account and add them to your block list.
Will have a voice mail sent to me and see if it works. I've read in other forums that it can take a month to work.

Update: Blocking 9016 did NOT work. My VVM updates, but I still get the annoying texts.
Any suggestions?
im not sure what that 9016 issue is but i do have a voicemail notification issue so i will speak of that
the sms you receve can be avoided while messing with ur settings in google voice online... when u click edit on ur mobile number there are options to uncheck sms notifications as well as transcriptions.. mess with ur settings and that fixes that issue, now onto the annoying one...
the way that i have figured out how to temporarly remove the icon is to flash whatever the latest nightly build is using rom manager and the use the option to wipe and adding the google apps, i then wait for my phone to reboot and let rom manager do its thang then as soon as i put in all my gmail information i wait till the menu starts to pop up then quickly press menu, call settings, voicemail number then change that *86 to my 10 digit phone number then press okay then i quickly change my carrier to google voice then go through all of those settings quickly till i click finish then press okay even though i may get that error that says something like my carrier doesnt support google voice or whatever it is then i go back to the carrier option and even though google voice is already selected i click google voice again and it tells me that my number has changed... no more voicemail notification UNTIL i reboot my phone, so any new fix that maybe come out involving any other issue i choose to ignore if it means that i have to reboot my phone... also a good thing to know is once u have success of finally getting rid of the icon whenever a new build is released just install it using rom manager once again but this time DO NOT select the wipe option and rom manager will install the latest build without the voicemail icon and all ur settings will be good to go right after the install however the same rules still apply, one u reboot it will come back, so after installing the latest build just dont wipe and dont reboot after all is said and done...
even though some tard thinks me mentioning *86 as the issue is me "wasting bandwidth" i feel that that is where the issue is.. this is the only rom that i have to change the carrier settings right off the bat instead of defaulting to our sprint voicemail... im not saying im *****ing about the issue in any way but this is an issue ive been having so i thought i would mention that...
now onto things ive tried that never worked....
ive tried just keeping my sprint number as the default but that never works, my only solution has been changing to google voice quickly...
ive called myself exactly 10 times and left myself voicemail messages, then after installing the latest nightly ive change to my voicemail number to sprints and deleted all 10 msgs and that did nothing...
ive gone into the application settings and deleted the phone data cache then quickly change to google voice without success, even after changing the settings i quickly pulled my battery and then started my phone so that it would default to googlevoice and still nothing...
since rom manager has worked for me as a temp fix ive tried doing all the same stuff using ar recovery doing all wipes and whatever else is possible without success, rom manager is the only one that works for me so i just stick to that...
and for those that say the google voice is too hard to setup its really not, just quit being lazy and do ur initial setup through google.com/voice and get urself a number and play with ur settings in there and when ur done with that then start the tutorial up top
i never had this issue until went from a cm6 nightly to zenfx2.2 to update my prl then I nandroided back and now i get these texts every 5 min
I think you guys should think of using Google Voice... Unless I am misunderstanding something, this is a Sprint VVM problem right?

Google Voice is the ****! Use it, enjoy, problem solved!
Man thats some good weed!
I don't like Google Voice... It doesn't give me anything I want. I shouldn't have to get Google Voice to fix a silly problem.
//not complaining about text messages, just Google Voice.

My phone keeps saying "fresh" over and over again and won't turn on. I am running stock froyo android CM6.0.
Can you help?
Maybe I need to update my PRI.

Problem with google voice is that it sometimes disconnects for no reason. I was using it and had to change because it kept dropping me and people would tell me my voicemail did not work.
I'd be cool with G-Voice if it did not do this.

This is just an educated guess and not a statement of fact, but having run the Fresh ROM in the past, it sounds like at some point you flashed your phone with the Fresh ROM, and then maybe flashed back to CM6 but forgot to wipe everything?
When the Fresh ROM boots up, it does indeed say, "Fresh!", so if you're stuck in a boot loop with that ROM's data, you could hear "Fresh!" repeatedly and your phone not start up.
I would go to recovery, do the full factory reset wipe, wipe cache, dalvik cache, and then do your nand-restore or reflash of CM6, google apps, etc.
I hope that this helps.
Thank you for your time,
I would try to just wipe the dalvik and cache first and only do a factory reset if that doesn't work.

I may try it again, as I did not mind G-Voice. But it had happened a few different times. Now I admit I have not tried it since I went to RC2 and the 8/24 nightly.
I'll try setting it up again and see what happens.

Please help with Google voice

I had Google voice on my fascinate and loved it. I tried to set it up on the charge and I get a message that says my network does not support Google voice. Is there a workaround? I sure do hope so. Thanks in advance!
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
I think you need to read the message again -- assuming you're seeing the same message as the rest of us, what it actually says is "Unfortunately your network carrier is currently not supported for automatic voicemail configuration," not "Your network does not support Google Voice."
In other words, all that message means is that it can't automatically program your voicemail -- but you presumably have already that done since you're coming from the Fascinate. That's why there's a "Skip" button on that step. Skip it, as assuming you're using the same phone number as on the Fascinate, it's irrelevant for you.
(Unintentional double post apparently, oops)
Try to set it up through 3G/4G, not wifi.

Then when I go to access my voicemail I still get that same message. Sigh......

So even once you skip that and go all the way through the set-up screens, you're saying that whenever you run the Voice app the same screen comes back up?
you have to activate the google voice since Verizon wont do it automatically...look at the google voice help but I think its #73 on the dialer..send...should here it click and hang up..its done

Google voice help!!

Hello all, yesterday my phone automatically updated Google voice app, and now my calls (all) are going directly to voicemail.. I've disabled the (do not disturb options), (enabled them) jus to see if that would help, and nothing.. I've wiped the data and even uninstalled the app through titanium backup, and nothing again! Still going to voicemail.. any ideas, or anybody came across this problem? Please help... I'd like some ideas before I use the master reset.. I dont even think that would work, considering "uninstalling didn't help... thank-you in advance

You could definitely try contacting Google at the forums. Have you tried using your computer to edit settings? Or just on your phone? You should also check whether your phone is disabled in Google Voice on the computer. Once when I updated, it disabled my iPhone 3GS, and I had to re-enable it. Go to Settings in GV on the computer, and check the list of phones. There are check boxes to enable phones. Hope this helped!
Why not delete everything related, download from Market and start from scratch. Go over your comp settings.
Another tip
Hey, just forgot to say: try adding an extra phone, or deleting your current phone and then re-enabling. Also, are you in the US? Because GV was malfunctioning in India, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong for me. Mostly India, because that's where I visit more. If you aren't in the US, you should check your calling balance, too. If it runs out, it sometimes just fwds to vm. Hope this (also) helped!
Kool thanks for the feedback.. ill chec online settings.. and I did delete it and it didn't help... its gotta be a setting somewhere...
Sent from my MacRom MR8 using xda premium
I finally figured out the problem.. after going thru all the settings and having no luck.. it was as simple as a dial string.. it was *720 and that stopped the forward of my number. Thanks for the replys tho. And jus incase anybody had this problem in the future, its jus a dial string.. that (*720) is for cricket only.. each carrier has a different string

(Q) native email app

ok so o hope this is in the right spot. i have a rooted SR on stock rom, unlocked on t mobile and all of a sudden i am having issues with the native email app not sending yahoo mail. i did nothing, down loaded nothing, no weird reboots nothing. all i get is that the email could not be sent and moved to my drafts. i have deleted and reset up my email and still nothing. i also rebooted my phone and nothing. has any one had or having issues or is it just me and my phone?
Try removing the account and setting it back up using the "other" option instead of choosing yahoo.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
sounds like you're not getting internet to the phone or the outgoing settings are wrong. verify internet. and check the outgoing mail server settings haven't changed on yahoo's end.

How would I go about doing this? It's seems all the other functions that require Internet work fine. I also have no problems, well few problems receiving email. I have it set to push and for the most part get email regularly. It's just the sending that's become an issue. It sends every once in a while but usually get the error.

I just tried "other" and it won't let me set it up. I Googled the settings but they must have changed since March? I can find any settings newer than that, maybe some one has some newer settings they can provide?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
ok it seems there is a new protocol on the yahoo servers, adding "android.imap.mail.yahoo.com" and some other changes. if i set it manually it works. the only thing is that i need it to be pushed not poled. the only option in "other" is to check every 15 mins. how would i go about getting the automatic email set up to recognize this new change and let me set up my email as push?
Try adding it back under yahoo and see if there is any option to modify server settings. I don't think you can choose manual set up like with other but may be able to modify settings after its added. If not, could try the yahoo mail app in the playstore it may have a push option. I don't have a Yahoo account so I've never used it but might be worth checking out.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Luckily I remembered I have a friend that works for yahoo, son had some inside help. Guess it was a spamming issue. Seems that if you reply to the same person too many times in the same email thread the system makes it as spam and requires a captcha for sending. Well since a phone can't see that, it fails to send. So now I have to wait 24 hours to reset and see if that fixes things. Thanks guys

Email exchange issues

Hi all,
Just got the nexus 5 and live everything about it except one thing, the email app. I can't tell if it's exchange services or the app itself, but "unfortunately email has stopped" keeps popping up randomly and will not stop. Another wrote thing is that the so manager will not let me wipe data (screenshot). Things I tried:
*rebooting
*deleting the apk through titanium, wiping data and reinstalling
Any ideas? I really need exchange email for work and it's driving me crazy.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Seems you screwed up something with titanium so do a factory reset and flash back to stock and test it out then and see if it all works fine. After that then do some changes slowly to see if it comes back again to narrow it down?
I have this problem with my Nexus 5 as well. It's been this way since I got it. Really, really annoying. This has been an ongoing problem for a while. I wish there was a fix....

I just wiped, flashed factory image and factory reset the phone and still getting these crashes and it is still not letting me wipe data from the app manager...
Any other suggestions? Right now, I'm going to try to delete the exchange accounts but it's not even letting me delete accounts!! I'm going to try to switch to ART to see if that helps at all, and will give an update.
Any other email clients for android that support exchange?? I'm lost at this point and I really tried everything I know before posting.

This is total stock? As if factory image?
I don't think there's much you can do to fix the problem. There are a lot of people in the same boat. If you search Google, there are several posts about the same issue. Last time I checked, there's no fix.

Yeah, factory image and it still didn't work.
I just ended up flashing twrp and cataclysm ROM and that fixed it.

I'm using Touchdown (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nitrodesk.droid20.nitroid) from Nitrodesk.
Works perfect for my needs
Had battery drain issues with the stock exchange app, so I switched to Touchdown
Hope this helps for you as well
EDIT:
Just read your later post that you switched ROM
cheers
I m experiencing another issue..!!
I get couldnt sign-in error!!
Any solutions for this!!
Dont frget to press the THANK button!!!
Just an update, the new ROM solution was working for a few hours but starting to have issues again with "unfortunately email app has stopped working" errors.
I think it has to be how my exchage accounts are setup:
- One gmail account on IMAP
- 3 Exchange accounts on push notifications and sync all mails
Outside of that setup, nothing special. Anyone experiencing the same?

One last update (unless it creeps up again). I switched the syncing of emails to date back 30 days instead of "All" and that fixed the "unfortunately email has stopped" messages completely. The HTC One email client never had that issue so I assumed that wasn't the problem but I guess the email client on this phone is a bit more sensitive.
Ok, the problem crept back up again... the error message keeps coming back, and in the app manager, the "clear data" button is greyed out so you can't even start over unless you remove all the accounts.
I would like to ask anyone that has working exchange accounts (multiple) on the native email client share their setup and the app versions etc.
