Why would you put a stock DESIRE HD ROM on an INSPIRE just to hope that HTC will think you have a DHD and give you the update for the DHD? Well they won't anyways. You do realize a stock DHD ROM is not 100% compatable with the Inspire? They do have slight hardware differences.
Gene Poole has a rooted version of the new DHD ROM with adjusted drivers for the Inspire in the Development section. If that is what you want in the end then just install it. Here is the link.

Only problem with that is, other users, like myself, have gotten a bootloop after installation. It will boot, but will constantly loop on the "HTC - quietly brilliant" screen. Last I checked, there was no solution as of yet. If Gene Pool can figure out what is causing it and correct it, I will most likely try flashing it again.

If you really want to run this stock base, I would go into fshami's Sens 3.0i thread and ask Wild Child if you could test his soon to be released stock version of this base. It has all the S's- smooth, stable, speedy, solid..... I'm sure he wouldn't mind another good tester.

Desire Hd and Inspire 4G Roms...

I switched my Atrix for the Inspire ealier today and since my wife and kids are in bed, I finally got a chance to play with it. I got it rooted and everything but when I got to look at the available roms to flash, they mostly say "Desire HD and/or Ace Roms" before I had the Atrix I had the Evo and the roms were always listed what phone the rom was for
With that said, can someone please tell me if all Desire HD Roms are compatible with the Inspire or is it a select few?
And is RA Recovery available for the Inspire or is it just Clockwork?

If you check the Inspire 4G Android Development there are a lot of ROMs based off Desire HD ROMs but ported using a different kernel for the Inspire. Remember, the Desire HD and the Inspire are basically the same devices except for the sound drivers which is why the Roms need a proper kernel. For instance, if you were to flash a Desire HD rom it would work except it would probably have no sound; you would have to flash an Inspire 4G kernel with working sound. And to your second question I don't know what that Recovery is so sorry! Hope this explained things a bit haha.

Not exactly sure what your trying to say. If you use a DHD rom from the DHD threads then you are going to have to apply a sound fix. If you are looking for a stock rom just grab Cleard,TCP or DILLIGAF from the inspire dev section.
Well I did the long superoneclick process that fixed sound and now I want a kernel that's overclocked and not sure which are safe to flash I came from a cappywhere I could flash almost anything and never really brick lol.

I'm using the tcp rom and lee droids kernel. Be aware that you may need to reflash your radio to get gps working. Then flash kernel

[Q] Still says Desire HD after flashing stock rom :(

I to go get a new phone so I need to return it to stock. My buddy helped me and flashed the stock rom. Everything seems good except I have no audio and it still says Desire HD. I tried searching but couldn't find the answer. Can someone please guide me on what the heck to do. I'm about to break this phone lol

Problem is I don't have root anymore. I really just need to get a new phone is my goal lol
You could search for Shortfuse + SuperOneClick here at XDA.
SuperOneClick will give you Temp Root on the Inspire...probably long enough to fix the issue and as soon as you reboot...the root will clear and nobody will know the difference.
I know SoC gives root long enough to enable sideloading on the Inspire...worth a shot.

I tried but couldn't find a link. And I can't download anything from the market so I may be screwed in that. Will AT&T care if it says Desire HD?

Edit the build. Props. In system folder. Use root explorer, gotta buy it tho

Market doesn't work for me for some reason tried to fixed it but no avail.
It sounds to me like you unrooted it but left the downgrade ROM on it. If so, you'll now need to get the official HTC RUU (Ace Cingular US) and run that to restore it to stock AT&T.
Get it here:

Mine does too, but I'm basing my advice on the fact that the OP mentioned that the audio didn't work either.
Even HTC sync sees my phone as a Desire HD, but the "about phone" info shows "HTC Inspire™ 4G"
Phone is still bone stock (aside from apps) BTW
and??lol
it says desire hd by default, its like that.
But you can change it too.
I got mine from at&t two weeks ago. And when it was stock, straight out of the store, under phone info it read Desire HD. You will be fine. Pinky promise.
I got a new one and it actually says Inspire lol

ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6

I don't know why some may say ICS on Sensation is lagy, but I can say it is smoother. I love everything about the update. If you have a Sensation 4G, the ICS update is well worthy to update to. So, the update is not available in the US, it is worth rooting and the whole 9 yards, be advised! Getting ICS on Sensation 4G is a wreck of work, but there are a lot of helpful threads to seek into before attempting anything. I'm rooted/CID/Firmware ready to flash and I love ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 Being on Sense 3.0 Gingerbread can't compare! So, thanks to all of the helpful threads and Developers and last but not least XDA!...CHEERS!

Even that wasn't hard. Unlock your bootloader which is almost fully automated, flash su, done.
arent mikes firmwares rooted already? so no worrys about that
ics wokrs like a charm
flashed it 3 days ago, my batt is at 12% !
Can only agree, even for a novice is not that hard to do at all, just have to follow guide (there are quite few around) to the letter and all goes well.
From what I've read is people who cut corners and miss important steps that often have problems with their phones.
Many thanks to everyone here on Xda for their hard work bringing us goodies!
Ok I just wanted to clear up what seems like some confusion that everyone is having. To flash the ICS and Sense 3.6 OTA file all you have to do to a stock Sensation or stock Sensation XE is to S-off your Sensation first then write Super CID to your Sensation. That is it really, you have to S-off because branded Sensations will only flash ROMs that have the correct security clearance for whatever carrier that the branded Sensation is from. You need Super CID so the OTA file will pass the cid check during the flashing process. You do not have to be rooted as being rooted has nothing to do with being able to flash a ROM.

I have not had a HTC phone in years, Mytouch 3G to be exact. I read the treads before I even think about flashing, and boy did I see a few with bricked phones soft bricked/ hard bricked, and lots that was confused. I'm a good guy and I just hate when somebody destroy something they care about. So, with that said, I hope to put precaution in those who are fast to act and slow to read. Thanks to all of you for sharing your thoughts about ICS, my feelings are likewise

Sorry, but I just had to add, coming from a Google flagship phone/dev phone without any third party security and bloatware, it was a one step thing just root and flash. So, I'm proud to say I felt like a nube coming back to HTC

Desire S - Kernel / Radio / Hboot

My wife´s Desire S has the following combination:
S-Off, Rooted
Hboot 6.98.1002
Android 2.3.5
HTC Sense 3.5
ROM EngeryROM
Radio 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M
Kernel 2.6.35.14-RCMIX-SAGA-V1-gf17016b-dirty
ClockWorkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
Strangely enough it "hangs" now and then. Im not so familiar with the Desire S, unlike my own Sensation which I know very well if it comes to tweaking.
Is any of the above configuration not recommended? Some other suggestions maybe?
Thank you in advance!

Absolutely nothing wrong. I've noticed these kinds of problems usually come from not doing a full wipe. If you did then the only thing I could recommend is a different ROM, perhaps endymion?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Also, make sure you're not running overclocked (some ROMs have it set by default).
Thanks guys! Other ROM would be nice but haven't seen a full working ICS ROM for this device yet.
Don't know if it's overclocked, what is the stock CPU speed for Desire S? 1 GHz?

What's the recommended procedure for this phone before flashing new ROM? For my Sensation, there's a SuperWipe zip file that clears all necessary for new ROM installation. Is that available for the Desire S?

I'd suggest that you have a read within the INDEX thread (see my signature) where you find a whole load of general guides that will get you started.
Easiest way to prepare phone before installing ROM I'd say would be to install 4ext recovery and use wipe all (except SD card) option, from within the wipe menu, and then flash ROM.
Not essential but you could change the revolutionary hboot your wife has at the moment for a eng hboot. Doing this makes it alot easier to return to stock s on if needed for any reason

If you mean do any of the ROMs come with 4EXT, no they don't, but they'll all work with it.
You need to flash the recovery 4EXT seperately to ROMS, easiest route is to use the app from the application from the market it's well worth paying for the version as you get quality support and regular updates.
