[Q] Still says Desire HD after flashing stock rom :( - HTC Inspire 4G

I to go get a new phone so I need to return it to stock. My buddy helped me and flashed the stock rom. Everything seems good except I have no audio and it still says Desire HD. I tried searching but couldn't find the answer. Can someone please guide me on what the heck to do. I'm about to break this phone lol

Problem is I don't have root anymore. I really just need to get a new phone is my goal lol

You could search for Shortfuse + SuperOneClick here at XDA.
SuperOneClick will give you Temp Root on the Inspire...probably long enough to fix the issue and as soon as you reboot...the root will clear and nobody will know the difference.
I know SoC gives root long enough to enable sideloading on the Inspire...worth a shot.

I tried but couldn't find a link. And I can't download anything from the market so I may be screwed in that. Will AT&T care if it says Desire HD?

Itll always say desire hd, its just like that its the same phone.

Edit the build. Props. In system folder. Use root explorer, gotta buy it tho

Market doesn't work for me for some reason tried to fixed it but no avail.

It sounds to me like you unrooted it but left the downgrade ROM on it. If so, you'll now need to get the official HTC RUU (Ace Cingular US) and run that to restore it to stock AT&T.
Get it here:

its says desire HD in stock form out of the box I believe, so changing it to inspire 4g will be wrong(I'm 99%sure it says desire HD stock). Pull build.prop from factory ruu and see what it says

My stock Inspire says, HTC Inspire 4G. There is also a small TM to the right of Inspire, for trademark.

Mine does too, but I'm basing my advice on the fact that the OP mentioned that the audio didn't work either.

Even HTC sync sees my phone as a Desire HD, but the "about phone" info shows "HTC Inspireā„¢ 4G"
Phone is still bone stock (aside from apps) BTW

and??lol
it says desire hd by default, its like that.
But you can change it too.

I got mine from at&t two weeks ago. And when it was stock, straight out of the store, under phone info it read Desire HD. You will be fine. Pinky promise.

I got a new one and it actually says Inspire lol

That sure seems like a lot of trouble compared to the iPhone restore,, Someone should make something so we can create a backup of everything on the phone before we start to modify it and then if we ever mess the phone up we can then just restore it.. Maybe one day huh
So lost
Ok I have downloaded s-on , do I put that on the sd card?
I wasn't successful in unrooting based on the link you provided. The settings simply stated that I do not have permission to change from S-on to S-off...anyone else tried going back to complete stock?

I'm already rooted running CM7 so I wouldn't be able to test this out.
Does anyone know of a reason this wouldn't work ?
I have a stock Inspire headed my way today and one way or another it is going to be rooted within an hour or so of it getting into my mitts !
Is there a SBF for the Inspire so I can reload the original ROM should things go south ?
To perm root this phone, the hboot(bootloader) has to be downgraded to take advantage of an exploitable one to get S-Off(nand lock) so radios and roms can be flashed. Gingerbreak only temp roots and doesn't attain s-off.
Search for the RUU, it's what's needed restore the stock unrooted rom.

Downloading the Stock now, thank you !
Should have searched before asking.
Going to give it a go as I haven't seen anything written about it. Figure as long as I have a stock to get back to it can't do much harm, that and it will wipe the SD card which is handy as it is a used phone. I go through a few and some of the things people leave on their old phones amazes me. Can be amusing though !

HTC Rep: OTA Gingerbread by end of the month

Hey guys, not sure if this is already common knowledge or not, but our HTC rep stopped in today and said that the Inspire 4g was going to be getting Gingerbread OTA in the next couple of weeks. She seemed pretty keen on this stuff as she herself was running a rooted Inspire 4g and complimented my Evo running a Shift port.
Anyways, have fun in Inspire land!
Sweet! I hope she is right.
I hope so too, my fiance has a stock Inspire 4G and I'd love to see that with Gingerbread. The rep seemed pretty up on new tech.
..
The Gingerbread OTA for the EVO that was released today has been rooted all ready....... So I don't see a problem with a locked bootloader.

Was it rooted before it was put on the phone or after the ota update was on the phone. Because its easy to root a rom when its not on the phone, but its hard to s off a phone that has a locked bootloader.

Thats the rooted rom from the update. What worries us is if some one does the ota update and is now stuck with a locked bootloader and no way to s-off. Which could happen on the inspire.

So similar to the way Apple operates? Shouldn't we always have the ability to flash signed roms/ radios like we do now?

Werent we all stuck with locked bootloaders when we bought our phones? And arent we all running rooted with s-off now??
That makes absolutley no difference. If the update comes, and the bootloader is replaced in the process with a signed one(I know they said they wouldn't, I haven't read about the evo update, but usually a locked bootloader is no big deal, a signed one is- if there's people making a big deal about it I'm assuming its signed)
then there's a good possibility you can never really flash a rom/kernel again, unless the bootloader is cracked. If anyone thinks that deb's will always get around this, look at the atrix. Ya it may get cracked eventually, could be years though.

Technically, no.Some devs put FOTA KILL in the roms to disable the service responsible for OTA's so the devices cannot receive them.

Well I am wishing that HTC will stand behind what they said about not locking bootloaders. I hope...... that they had the OTA in the hands of Sprint way before they made that statement.

It's pretty cool for inspired ace users too, seems like there's people who like there roms as close to stock as possable and as soon as we get an inspire based gingerbread we can use that as a base to build off of, without any problems like tinny audio or speed issues.

ROOT Sensation

Alright I am a noob, I have legit looked everywhere but all I have been able to do is find noobproof rooting methods and those won't work for me!! I had an LG optimus one and I rooted it simply using the app Gingerbreak, flashed a whatchamacallit recovery thingy......and installed cyanogenmod. I forget exactly what I did. See I am really new to all this. Basically can someone tell me what is so different between rooting an optimus one and a sensation? and can someone direct me to a post that DOES have a simple way to root, or at least take the time to write one here? I would appreciate it EXTREMELY MUCH.
Thanks!

I was like you just yesterday but lost my virginity last night ( as far as rooting goes). It's super easy to do. Check on YouTube there are vids that show you step by step how to do it. I didn't want to root my sensation before cause I didn't know anything about it. But last night I just did it and my current rom ( android revolution HD 3.6.1) is beyond amazing. People who don't root have NO idea what they're missing. It's a must. Anyway you have to use the revolutionary method to get S-off. Getting S-off doesn't mean you're rooted it "just" mean you have an unlocked boot loader and you can achieve root. But yeah check the vids on YouTube just type how to s-off and root sensation and follow the exact same step. When you're all done, check on YouTube again how to flash a rom, you will b a pro in no time!
Thanks!! yeah I did root my optimus one like I said and flashed cyanogenmod but my phone stopped receiving texts as soon as I did...I thought it was the fact that I rooted it, but in fact it was cuz I didn't pay my phone bill for two months so i was afraid of rooting after that for fear that it might happen again. But yes, so,
where does busybox and superuser fit into all of this?? I recall when i rooted my optimus one superuser appeared on my phone...and I had to download busybox separately. Is busybox necessary for flashing certain roms??

You can download both from Android Apps. Sometimes when trying to download an app (eg.Titanium Backup) it will ask if you want to load busybox or superuser. It is not very difficult.

I can't get over how simple rooting and flashing a custom ROM really is.
Took all of twenty minutes including downloading all the files, I'm now S-OFFed and running ARHD 3.6.1 with the recommended radio and my phone is absolutely flying - Quadrant benches of 2800+.
And as above, if I ever need to go back to stock I can either restore the backup I made when flashing the ROM, or flash a stock RUU and job done.

Why would you put a stock DESIRE HD ROM on an INSPIRE just to hope that HTC will think you have a DHD and give you the update for the DHD? Well they won't anyways. You do realize a stock DHD ROM is not 100% compatable with the Inspire? They do have slight hardware differences.
Gene Poole has a rooted version of the new DHD ROM with adjusted drivers for the Inspire in the Development section. If that is what you want in the end then just install it. Here is the link.

Only problem with that is, other users, like myself, have gotten a bootloop after installation. It will boot, but will constantly loop on the "HTC - quietly brilliant" screen. Last I checked, there was no solution as of yet. If Gene Pool can figure out what is causing it and correct it, I will most likely try flashing it again.
