ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 - HTC Sensation

I don't know why some may say ICS on Sensation is lagy, but I can say it is smoother. I love everything about the update. If you have a Sensation 4G, the ICS update is well worthy to update to. So, the update is not available in the US, it is worth rooting and the whole 9 yards, be advised! Getting ICS on Sensation 4G is a wreck of work, but there are a lot of helpful threads to seek into before attempting anything. I'm rooted/CID/Firmware ready to flash and I love ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 Being on Sense 3.0 Gingerbread can't compare! So, thanks to all of the helpful threads and Developers and last but not least XDA!...CHEERS!

Even that wasn't hard. Unlock your bootloader which is almost fully automated, flash su, done.

arent mikes firmwares rooted already? so no worrys about that
ics wokrs like a charm
flashed it 3 days ago, my batt is at 12% !

Can only agree, even for a novice is not that hard to do at all, just have to follow guide (there are quite few around) to the letter and all goes well.
From what I've read is people who cut corners and miss important steps that often have problems with their phones.
Many thanks to everyone here on Xda for their hard work bringing us goodies!

Ok I just wanted to clear up what seems like some confusion that everyone is having. To flash the ICS and Sense 3.6 OTA file all you have to do to a stock Sensation or stock Sensation XE is to S-off your Sensation first then write Super CID to your Sensation. That is it really, you have to S-off because branded Sensations will only flash ROMs that have the correct security clearance for whatever carrier that the branded Sensation is from. You need Super CID so the OTA file will pass the cid check during the flashing process. You do not have to be rooted as being rooted has nothing to do with being able to flash a ROM.

I have not had a HTC phone in years, Mytouch 3G to be exact. I read the treads before I even think about flashing, and boy did I see a few with bricked phones soft bricked/ hard bricked, and lots that was confused. I'm a good guy and I just hate when somebody destroy something they care about. So, with that said, I hope to put precaution in those who are fast to act and slow to read. Thanks to all of you for sharing your thoughts about ICS, my feelings are likewise

Sorry, but I just had to add, coming from a Google flagship phone/dev phone without any third party security and bloatware, it was a one step thing just root and flash. So, I'm proud to say I felt like a nube coming back to HTC

[Q] Android 4.0 ROM for HTC Sensation?

Hey devs,
Found a few threads from the HTC Desire department where they are talking about Android 4.0 and making a 4.0 ROM for the Desire...
Is that also possible with our Sensation? I mean, we have better processor, GPU, screen etc. Haven't found anything about this in the Sensation department yet.
Thought I'd ask
Greetings!
Why can't you report stuff on the XDA app yet?

Root or wait for ICS update?

Hey ya'll I'm coming from a rooted Mytouch4g that I did a warranty exchange with, got the Sensation last night I've been reading we will get the ICS update next month.

I guess it depends on your comfort zone ;-)
There are many ICS ROMs based on "leaked HTC ICS" that work well. Until the official HTC ICS comes out we don't know the delta.
I, personally, would root, but I haven't had an unrooted device in two years lol. I'm on gingerbread still, because every ICS rom I've tried hasn't been as stable or fast as my modified cm7. It's really up to you, but if you've had your last phone rooted, chances are you'll root this one too lol, it's just a matter of when. Anyway, welcome to the sensation forums and good luck

Nothing wrong with rooting, it's possible to unroot if u have to send it back for defects, why not
Thanks fellas...I guess what it is is that I didn't succeed in getting S on once I went back to stock on the mytouch before I sent them both back lol o well seems rooting is easier on this phone then the gfree method for the mytouch and that was pretty easy itself

[Q] anybody got android 4.01 roms?

Hello. I'm semi-bricked so I cannot use android 4.03 roms. They just don't work for me. I loved arhd 5.01 because I thought it would be awful but it isn't. It has epic speech recognition problems though, it just says unfortunately voice search has stopped. It says this for each of the voice needed applications. Does anybody have any other 4.01 roms? Preferably sense but I don't mind
You could try hypernonsense, so smooth, fast and stable.
Is it android 4.01 or gingerbread
Please stop flashing your phone until you know what you are doing. I would think after all of the trouble you had previously after flashing firmware being stuck with s on and your phone being in an unusable state you would have stopped messing with it.
Go back to stock and leave it alone. You are eventually gonna brick it. You need to do a lot of reading so you are not asking for help all day, everyday.

Yes I flashed it. I think you should :
1. Flash 3.32 fw
2. Wipe data/ factory reset
3. Wipe cache partition
4. Wipe davlink cache
5.Flash virtuous 4.0.0
6. Reboot
Then if it work you can flash addons, kernels

Should I update?

Just manually checked my wife's HTC software update, and it finally has the Android 4.0 ICS Sense 3.6, I d/l'd it, but havent installed it yet. Is there any reason I shouldn't update, say if I decided to root it anytime in the future?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
It will be best to root before update.because it will be a whole lot easier with the hboot version you have now. You should be able now to use revolutionary and if you update, It's likely you will no
longer able to use it depending on your hboot. Revolutionary supports certain hboot versions and some ics might not be supported. This is my understanding and I was also told the same thing. So I rooted on revolutionary then updated to 4.0.3 and custom Rom .of course its possible to root after update, just more difficult in my opinion. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Hope this helped out a bit.

Let her use both devices and make the decision. My wife is still running stock GB on hers and sees no reason to change it. Don't push her and be held responsible for any changes she does not like.
There are certain apps that you'll have bugs and compatibility issues with on ICS, but most of those should be ironed out by the developers over time.
Definitely s-off before hand either way. That way you'll have the ability to easily downgrade if she doesn't like it...

Is it worth rooting new sensation xe if jelly bean is on its way.

Im still undecided on whether to root my sensation xe and flash a stock ics rom considering I'm not the biggest fan of htc sense or should I wait for the jelly bean update and carry on using launchers like Nova right now. thanks in advance.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using xda app-developers app
IMHO I`d s-off & root... Make sure you have got a correct RUU so you can restore everything for warranty purposes.
I think... The sensation will probably not get Jellybean officially, but the Ville C2 definitely will. All current Sense 4 ROMS for the sensation are based on Ville C2 RUU.
You will need s-off/root/4ext to install this.
Just root, you can use CM10 which will be working well soon.
Android 4.0 is going to be getting old hat (already) and sense 3.6 is old hat compared to Sense 4... So really, you have to root.
Unless HTC decide to make a Sensation update with Sense 4 & Jellybean (hell will freeze over...), or Sense 3.6 & Jellybean? Doubtful
Root root root
Yes. Root it.
First off, you will still be able to get the official JB release. You will just have to flash it manually intead of getting it OTA. (And for that matter you will probably be able to get it here before you would OTA)
Plus, once you are rooted you'd have more JB variants available to you anyway.
Root! It likely will be available here BEFORE the upstate is released, IF the sensation gets a official update At all! If not you will likely have it available for you here! Thank God for xda and it's Genius developers! You must root before you have all these wonderful things available to you! You won't regret it for a second! I sure don't. I'm running android 4.0.3, sense 4, firmware 3.33, all thanks to xda! They made me love my device Again! By rooting your making your device truly your own! Customization on the deepest levels! You will love it once your rooted and s off. It's great ! You don't like something , just change it to what you do like. Rooting gives this freedom! Best of luck! I have A feeling if your waiting for official jelly bean you will be waiting a long time if not forever. Root and soon it will be available!

Especially if you plan to wait on HTC for a JB update. 'Cause you could probably try Key Lime by the time they release one on JB. And thats if you're pretty lucky.
Where are you getting the info that Jellybean will be official? I have not seen any such statement
I just assumed if the phone can handle sense 4 and ics we should be in line for jelly bean at some point..but I just don't think I'm willing to wait now...HTC usually supports a phone for 2 OTA's then abandon it and leave to the user.

I doubt that the Sensation is going to get 4.1 at all from HTC.
If a more recent device like the Amaze did not get any promise of an update to JB from HTC, what is your basis for assuming that the Sensation is getting it at some point? Just because it is capable of Sense 4 and ICS doesn't mean HTC HAS to give it Sense 4, let alone 4.1.

To find the correct guide you need to know your boot version. In order to find this version you pull battery, put battery back in and press power and volume down at the same time and hold until the phone boots, on that page it will have the information there on your hboot. Once you know what that is then you can find the correct guide example - guide rooting s off for h boot 1: 27.... , then you follow that specific guide for your h boot version. Hope this has helped.
