Weather Widget Not Showing Current Location... - HTC Sensation

Over the last week or so the Weather widget and app show my Current Location to be 'United Kingdom' rather than the city I am in.
I have tried refreshing many times, updated location on Google Maps and even reflashed my rom but still no luck. Has anyone had this problem and know a fix for it?
Many thanks.

Have you already clear data from Google Maps, Clock Widget, Weather, HTC weather sync provider and Weather Provider? After you delete all of these data, then try to update your location in google map by GPS and mobile data.

Tried everything suggestd but still no luck. Added the clock widget from Beautiful Widgets to see if this would make any difference but this widget just says "Null" instead of "United Kingdom"

Did Google map detect your location while using GPS and mobile data?

Yes Google Maps shows my exact location with no problems (GPS and Mobile Data).
Ive done what invisiblebm has done and change the weather provider to Google in BW and now the widget is fine but it still shows UK on the weather lock screen

I'm having the same problem and I've done all the above steps too.
If you open the htc weather app and press more details online, it will load the web browser with correct location.
Therefore, I think the problem is kernel/rom related.
Btw, I'm running the Virtuous Rom with the 1.6 beta6 Brick kernel.

Since ARHD 4.1.7+Bricked v1.5 I have ever got the same problem too, but after I tried a solution from above reply that I have wrote. It's works fine for me.

I think you may be right. This only started happening to me when I moved from ARHD 3.6x to ARHD 4.1x. Is Virtuous Rom with Sense 3.5?
Im wondering if the problem is Sense 3.5 releated?

No it uses Sense 3.0
I'm going to try stock kernel and see if it makes any difference.

Think it may be more Rom related that Kernel. Ive been using Bricked 1.5 for a while now and it always use to work.
Please report back though if you find stock fixes it. Does yours always show the country or does it sometimes report the correct city? Mine seems to be very intermittent...

Now this is really strange. I've tried this on both stock and bricked kernel.
I followed all the steps in post 2. I had to go outside to get gps signal in google maps, and it showed the correct location in weather widget.
However, when i go back inside, the location is back to United Kingdom. It seems as though a constant gps signal is required in the background.
This was never the case on the stock rom.

I only changed the weather provider in BW. As far as im aware you cannot change it for the HTC app.

Something very weird is going on. Im at work at the moment and it's showing the correct location but I know as soon as I get home tonight it will change back to United Kingdom. Perhaps its a problem with Accuweather?
If it is rom related then I guess the only way to test this theory is to go back to stock and see if this makes any difference.

Spoke to soon......just changed back to United Kingdom after a refresh!

Think I may be getting somewhere here.
With WiFi connected weather shows as United Kingdom - with WiFi disconnected weather shows correct location.
Can someone else test this to make sure...

I do have a nand backup of the stock rom which came with the phone. Contemplating whether to give it a try!
EDIT:
Just saw your post now. When you disconnect the WIFI is your data connection then turned on?

Yes once WiFi is disconnected the mobile data comes back and correct location is shown.

Yea the same happens with me, with the data connection it reports correct location.

How strange. I cant say I have ever noticed this before - Im sure I would have as I use WiFi all the time so I wonder if it is a recent bug.
Well at least we got to the bottom of it!

Yep... I'm having the same problem. Seems like something similar happened a few months ago.
I too, am having that problem. If I tell it to cancel update, and then go to the old (un- updated) 5-day forecast screen, then to "more" tab, it does bring up the accuweather page in Opera - so the internet connection and the accuweather site are up. I looked for some sort of connection setting for this, but can't find any.
Weather update
Having the same problem here. I have data and wifi connections.
Same issue here.
Same here on Tilt even did a hard re-set as wasn't any posts and did change some files last night, the other strange thing is my Dash updates and it's AccuWeather too.
Yeah same here, will not update through wifi or data connection

yup, weather is ka-put!
Me too, i am using weather with custom cities, i remember custom cities weather is gathering weather information from a different server, maybe this server is down. Is someone is trying to use weather OEM?

I tried setting the Server URL in the Weather Database Editor to:
Code:
http://htc.accuweather.com/widget/htc/forecast-data_v3.asp?ac=TR2cra9U&locCode=
with no success.
but this is the stock ive the "fixed" version , dont work,
ok i look out window and see weather for moment..
It is working again now.
OK... I managed to get mine working again.
For those of you who don't want to wait for the not2advanced.com server to come back up, try this: Open Weather Database editor and choose, Edit and Options. Change the server URL to:
Code:
http://htc.accuweather.com/widget/htc/forecast-data_v3.asp?ac=TR2cra9U&locCode=%25ls
(Note: That's an Ls, not Is or 1s)
proxy not2advanced.com is working again now too!
weather updated works ,)
proxy not2advanced.com seems to be down again...still not working for me

[Q] Weather Widget shows wrong location on my new TF

I just got my brand NEW Asus TF 16GB from Amazon. I did the update first.
Then I noticed that it displays the wrong location in the weather widget.
I have GPS, Wifi and Google location tracking enabled.
Anyone else got the wrong location with this Tablet? Any way to get it work properly? I have not tried a different location either.
oh and google map app shows the correct location so I guess it knows where it is. Strange...
I know I can set it manually but I would like to know if it can be fixed to work in auto mode.
Any how this is a great site full of TF information.
Thanks in advance...
VeeKay
yeah, I hope there is a fix for this.
Mine also pinpoints me fine on the map.
But, weather widget says i'm in a small community, two cities away.
And a search to enter location manually, finds my city no problem.
Of course I prefer to leave it on AUTO.
Tap the weather widget and you can set your location manually, or force it to refresh.
I manually set mine to my location, then turned it back to automatic and it's been fine since.
Thanks for the tip
I tried that but unfortunately it didn't work. It goes back to the wrong location
I all of a sudden started having this issue. When i'm at home it says that i'm in a city that's more than 40 miles away which I've never even traveled near with my TF.
I've tried deleting the widget, checking google maps, and still it puts me in the wrong location.
This started happening less than a week ago.
Mine has said "Asahi ku" since I got it... I have no idea where that is.
Does anyone have an alternate GPS program installed like Locus?
I uninstalled that and it looks to be working fine now.

Ok I spoke prematurely.
If I go into Google maps, it places me in the right location but for some reason, starts out in the location 40 miles away.
The Asus widget seems to be broken.

I've done that i've pretty much tired everything. i know its not a gps problem cuz my navigation works fine and it shows im locked to 11 satellites.. i guess i will have to use wireless network connections untill i can figure it out.
HD Widgets works 100%. I had same problem with Go weather on ICS.
Another app you could try is be weather, it has some good, configurable widgets and nice full screen video in the main app. Also tracks your location. Am using with virtuous 1.3 ics.
thanks for the tips i went with HD Widgets and it works fine i disconnected wireless networks and just left gps on and it works. ill be closing this thread now thank you guys

[Q] Location services not working properly after JB update

My stock AT&T HTC One X has developed a very annoying issue after the OTA update to JB.
Location services in the HTC weather widget constantly displays either "Current location" or else displays a city name that is within 10-20 miles of my actual location. Refreshing the widget either does nothing, or occasionally says "Unable to connect to location service..." Google Maps and Navigation nail my location exactly without any issues whatsoever, so I highly doubt I suddenly developed a hardware issue. Before the JB update, everything was working normally. And again, I'm running 100% stock unrooted One X.
I've done extensive searching, and have tried every bit of advice I could find: uncheck automatic time zone, uncheck fast boot, delete and reinstall the weather widget, clear Google framework cache, etc, etc, etc. In an act of desperation, I downloaded the official RUU last night and reflashed. After setting up my phone, I have the exact same problem.
To add insult to injury, my friend was here with his identical stock AT&T One X with the OTA JB update. Sitting right next to me, his phone displays the correct city and weather data.
Any other ideas?
I am desensed but it doesn't look to me like you went to apps, all apps, weather widget, clear data.
If you tried that already or that doesn't do it, I'd have no other ideas.
I forgot to add.. Can you not specify your location etc. within the widget settings? You must be able to, I hate depending on Geolocation for weather settings. It wastes battery by checking GPS every so often to see if you're still in the same location. I guess if you travel a lot this is useful...
In the weather app, go to Settings, and see if the option "My current location, Update my location in real time" is checked or not. Try it either way (mine seems to work right, whether its checked or not).
Also, try simply restarting the phone. I've had the Weather location be incorrect after flashing a new ROM, and restarting the phone fixed it.
The Weather widget reads the location info from the cell tower, not GPS. So the reading of the location is not related to Google Maps or Navigation.

Yes, I have checked and unchecked everything, and have restarted dozens of times before and after reflashing, and after trying different ideas. As to exad's suggestion: yes, I can specify a location, but I travel more or less constantly within the state as well as frequent trips.
Problem solved!
Turns out it wasn't a software issue after all.
In a final act of desperation, I did a warranty exchange at the local AT&T warranty center. By the time I got almost home with my new (refurb) phone, I realized the location services still weren't working properly as I drove through 4 different cities in the metro area, and my location stayed the same.
So... I had a flash of inspiration, detoured to my neighborhood AT&T store, asked them to change out my SIM card, and that fixed the problem!

[Q] GSM-based location

Hello,
My problem is that the phone does not locate its approx. right position when signed in gsm network. There are some applications which need this info e.g. weather apps. or apps relating to public traffic.
I do not want to keep gps or wifi on at all times and consuming battery life in an intensive way.
Earlier this function worked fine with HTC one V. But today it does not work with HTC One SV. Is this problem about settings or hardware malfunction? Is it a known issue anyway?
thanks for help,
Steven
HTC One SV
Android 4.1.2
HTC Sense 4+
HTC SDK 4.65
It's not a known issue, no. Everything's fine on my SV, also on my girlfriend's. Also, it should work flawlessly out of the box; you shouldn't need to alter any setting for GSM location to work.
Maybe there's an issue with your provider?

Are you sure about it? If you enter google maps with no gps on the phone is able to find your position?
Browsing internet I am begining to convince myself that Android 4.1 does not include mobile-cell-based location.

Sure. It ticked all the option except for gps. But it locates position only with gps. Google map, weather app etc do not work with gps off.

Yes, i am sure about it. If i run GMaps with an active mobile internet connection, it is able to pinpoint my location without any issues whatsoever. I'm running the stock version of HTC's latest firmware, no root, no S-OFF.
