Woops. .. Currently, our man on the inside says that’s not possible to use rule core apps with version 2.3 (Gingerbread) hence the need to push to the next iteration and version number, but not change the name. It's most likely to be one of the main reasons we’ve yet to see any major manufacturer gunning to get Android 2.3 handsetsoutthere.
“It’s to ensure compatibility with dual-core apps,” our agent explains before adding that “it will still be called Gingerbread.”
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
That’s right, in a move that shows there is some kind of cover-up of the mistake of the lack of Android 2.3 devices on the market (aside from the Nexus S) 2.4 will still be called Gingerbread, as the only new feature it adds will be this ability to support dual-core apps on a single-core device.

Remember when eclair came out? It was 2.0 and only came on the moto droid. They then released 2.1 also as eclair there was no cover up. Just not enough of an update to deserve a new name but enough of one for a new version #.
BTW there were a few devices shown off at the mobile world congress with 2.3 running on them. Your information seems to be false.

I know its possible on a windows phone but can it be done on a nexus s?

Just wondering if anyone is going to be working on WebOS once it becomes open source to port it to the Inspire.

Don't get your hopes up. It will be a beast of a job to port WebOS, and it will only happen on our phone if a very dedicated developer decides to work on it.
if you are interested in owOS I am part of a group that will be developing the OS and looking into manufacturing a phone to go along with it. If you are interested you can find a little more information at our site phxdevices[DOT]com
I'd like to see this too. I'm a full blown flashaholic android junkie now, but was a WebOS fan before I discovered my love for android.

Web oS is dead and should be buried!

Couldn't agree more.
ICS runs great on this phone.... go with that

I wanna see what windows is all about that's all before any forum Nazis start getting all up in my grill

I guess, it's imposible.
This is the weirdest request I have ever read.
Tapatalked from Desire S running Andromadus
Whys it so weird when you can get HTC windows phones ?also there is already a windows ROM called moonlight for other htc phones but can't find it for the desire . Also theres a windows 7 ROM on ROM manager . Not that strange then
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
Windows 7 ROM was only on HD2, the only phone which had the bootloader to boot into Windows Phone.
Never done for any "other phones", AFAIK.
Some reading would have cleared that.
To cut it short - don't waste your time and forum space requesting it. And the question would have been easily answered by typing "Windows phone ROM <your_phone_model>" in Google search.
Done that and as you want it cleared up I've flashed a windows ROM and am just testing it now so I won't apologise just yet for wasting you valuable forum space

I am sorry for wasting your time though ,I mean you could of spent it doing something exciting . Just out of interest what would you have been doing ?

Are you Pro Samsung, or are you Pro Android. I ask this question, because of Samsung's future plans with their Tizen OS. I'm sure everybody knows about this OS. But I'm not sure any of use fully understand what Samsung is going to be doing with it. And what it will mean for Android running on their devices in the future... I don't really see this OS being a threat to Android. But with Samsung's notable market share in the Android landscape, and uninformed consumers. Can it get a strong hold on some of Androids market share.

No it won't android has been out for a while and fixed nearly every bug and tweaked it and made it faster and tastier I think it would be a while until Tizen could actually go head to head with android and ios.

As I said I would be sometime till this OS to be the first, and no doubt Samsung will take it to the top

I'd love to have a phone with "easy" hardware, on which one could install Android, Tizen or Ubuntu at will, so one can try and choose the one wich fits better his own needs.
I'm not really interested in Tizen... I kind of wanted to see where people stand on the issue... Samsung has been the top Android OEM, but are we for Android, and just choose Samsung devices, or are we with Samsung, that just so happens to be using Android... And when the time comes, will we stick with one, or the other, Samsung with Tizen, or Android... I kind of also like to see what people think of Tizen... I'm not really sure what to think of the OS. I'll be staying with Android, I know that much...

More afraid of Samsung staying with Android but going the way of Amazon. They want the money from the ecosystem. Wouldn't be surprised if in the future you have to pick a kindle phone, Samsung phone, or Google phone depending on where you want your content and apps to come from. Google Play subscriptions / apps? Amazon subscriptions / apps? Samsung subscriptions / apps? etc
That's why we have XDA

Remember the viability of the OS is almost totally dependant on the catalog of apps. BlackBerry OS 7 & 10 were very functional and secure OS'es but lost their appeal in the market because of the lack of apps. The same could be said for Windows Phone 8 which is much easier to control on the corporate level than either iOS or Android. But IT groups are too scared to give out the phones due to app envy complaints. Tizen could be the second coming but if it doesn't have a catalogue of a 100k apps day one it won't go anywhere.
