Woops. .. Currently, our man on the inside says that’s not possible to use rule core apps with version 2.3 (Gingerbread) hence the need to push to the next iteration and version number, but not change the name. It's most likely to be one of the main reasons we’ve yet to see any major manufacturer gunning to get Android 2.3 handsetsoutthere.
“It’s to ensure compatibility with dual-core apps,” our agent explains before adding that “it will still be called Gingerbread.”
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
That’s right, in a move that shows there is some kind of cover-up of the mistake of the lack of Android 2.3 devices on the market (aside from the Nexus S) 2.4 will still be called Gingerbread, as the only new feature it adds will be this ability to support dual-core apps on a single-core device.

Remember when eclair came out? It was 2.0 and only came on the moto droid. They then released 2.1 also as eclair there was no cover up. Just not enough of an update to deserve a new name but enough of one for a new version #.
BTW there were a few devices shown off at the mobile world congress with 2.3 running on them. Your information seems to be false.

Link is working fine. You don't see it in the market because its not compatible with the Tbolt.

The link works fine. But it says that my Thunderbolt is "not a supported device."
The link is broken because of the http and https mashed together at the beginning. If you remove the https it works fine. It is definitely disappointing but I imagine they'll add support for the TB eventually.

Based on the permissions this app requires, it probably reads the build.prop file to determine which phone you are using.
Any way to trick the app into thinking we're using an Incredible or something?

I'm with you on the 2nd gen Snapdragon thing. Everything I read about the LG Revolution said that it could only run the Netflix app because it has a Qualcomm MSM8255 (same chip that is in the T-bolt).
so wait my girls one year old evo can play netflix but my brand new thunderbolt cant? Really watching windows 7 man.
somebody pulled the apk but it still does not work on the Thunderbolt. The apk seems to look at the phone it is on when loading. I dont have enough post to post a link so edit the following.

what happen to all that drm talk?
Give it some time. This is what Netflix says on their blog:
The Market download will initially be available only on select phones that currently have the requisite playback support. We expect to quickly add to the number of phones that can download from Android Market as we work with ecosystem partners to expand playback support.

Can it be that the reason the Thunderbolt won't be sporting Netflix is because Verizon had blockbuster preinstalled?

Hi there,
I'm very new to Android and the rooting procedure. Basically, I switched from an iPhone to an HTC Inspire 4G after 4 years.
I'm going to try and root my phone tonight, and also unlock it and put HTC Sense 3.0 on it, but one thing I have been unable to find is a stable ROM for Android 2.3 that is as close to the stock version as possible. It may be right under my nose, but I haven't had any luck. If anyone could provide a download link, or a URL that points to where I could find one, that would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
Best one for HTC sense 3 is CoreDroid. My opinion.

It might be best for you to not jump right into rooting your phone. Spend some time seeing how your phone works out of the box and what you might want to change. During that time spend time on this forum just reading and gathering knowledge. The more you read, the more answers you will already have.
Just my suggestion.

I really like the new sense 3.0 functions that are ported on the coredroid 6.5. P.S. It might be better to root before you get all your apps setup and installed like I did. Then I had no way of backing up since I had no root access and had to setup everything from scratch again.
Thanks for all the help guys.
darkside, I've actually had to phone for about a month now. Funny you mention using it and seeing what I'd want to change, cause one of the first things I did after a week of usage was make a small list of just those things haha.
In addition to unlocking the Inspire, and putting Sense 3.0 and 2.3 on it, the only other thing I really want to do is get all of that annoying AT&T bloatware off. That, and find something that can fix the battery life. I have no idea how to do either, so I think I will take everyone's advice and do some more reading before attempting this.
I'm using MIUI and its doing excellent for me.

Excellent advice.
You really, really, really should have a baseline by which to judge subsequent roms you flash.
Otherwise, you'll never have a full sense of what's working better or worse than something else.

Are you using the MIUI Rom here in the US on AT&T....and do you have any problems with apps in the app market? I want to find a decent GB rom but it seems like most are geared more toward the UK.
For example I'm using ClearDroid, I do a search in the market for the "Xfinity TV" app. It shows right up...I jump on LeeDroids rom, and no "Xfinity TV" app to be found.....And thats with installing Morelocale2 before setting up my google account. Obvioiusly I could care less about the app....it just makes me wonder what other apps are hidden from my view.

I am on too slow of a connection to download and mess with it but just from reading the notes it looks like the press conference REALLY left a lot of important features unmentioned. Another thing I found odd was that there was zero mention of the "one OS to rule them all." I would have thought Google would make a bigger deal about this being a unifying version of the OS.

are you really worrying, if ICS will be available for the NS?! or did i miss something?
no worries, mates, as far as i have read the statements of google, ICS will definitely come for the NS! of course they have to bring it, i'd buy an f*ing iphone, if my not even 1 year old developer phone was no longer supported! (ok, it was a bluff, i'd never buy that brick, but i'd be really pissed! )
the last thing i read about it was, that they first of all work on the NS-rollout...though i don't think, that it will happen before the galaxy nexus is published...
Edit: "Google Android Chief Andy Rubin stated that Ice Cream Sandwich is on schedule to roll out “a couple of week after” the Galaxy Nexus arrives in the marketplace." -> that may take some time, maybe a christmas present?

Hmmm... Offline dictation, or at least a better voice recognition... I really don;t know why I cant make any of my android phones work the voice recognition as my old blackberry curve. I don't really need the system to get me con cert tickets or how is the weather in Japan... just need something fully integrated that can read and take my messages, dial correctly any phone number I ask for and play the music I ask. Is that sooooo dificult to accomplish??? Or is it the fact that I speak in spanish so I need it to work in spanish while the phone is in english.
The new notification system and Google Now are awesome! I really do hope the devs here can get it on our phones. I think the kernel we are using is fine. I don't think jellybean has a whole new kernel. Mid July, and I shall see if the devs can whip something up
