Jellybean 4.1/5.0 is being announced next week. What do you expect? - myTouch 4G General

I think jellybean is being announced next week. If not sorry just close this thread.
What does everyone expect from jellybean? Will it 4.1 or 5.0? What new features will it add? Thoughts and/of opinions please!

Probably a lot of bug fixes and performance/stability updates. ICS was a massive upgrade. I've given up on a fragmentation fix for a while...however, hopefully Jelly Bean will introduce mojal. Google's voice assistant

I expect more threads and questions like these around xda...possibly these device forums.
I'm no psychic or anything, just a prediction.

I do that a lot, too. It helps keep the trolls at bay.
I really wish Google would stop releasing new versions. They're KILLING us with fragmentation. My company has created a couple of Android apps and released them, but fragmentation is really hurting them.

4.1 i think

ICS began to start working fine for our phones, now theres jellybean tomorrow. oh man, hope we can get that too

offline dictation, my wish came true.

It s coming mid July
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda app-developers app

Hmmm... Offline dictation, or at least a better voice recognition... I really don;t know why I cant make any of my android phones work the voice recognition as my old blackberry curve. I don't really need the system to get me con cert tickets or how is the weather in Japan... just need something fully integrated that can read and take my messages, dial correctly any phone number I ask for and play the music I ask. Is that sooooo dificult to accomplish??? Or is it the fact that I speak in spanish so I need it to work in spanish while the phone is in english.

The new notification system and Google Now are awesome! I really do hope the devs here can get it on our phones. I think the kernel we are using is fine. I don't think jellybean has a whole new kernel. Mid July, and I shall see if the devs can whip something up
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4G

Well, considering our ram is just a bit less than current specs (1gb) i really hope that we can still get this update...:highfive:

Jelly bean WILL have offline voice control. Also I'm guessing we wikl be able to running because based on what I've read, jelly bean is a more polished and stable version of ICS, including numerous performance and stability fixes. Thus if its a more optimized version of ICS, we should be able to run it.

Jellybean should run quicker with Googles butter project, to bad I am not at home, I really wanna use that sdk dump

I am on too slow of a connection to download and mess with it but just from reading the notes it looks like the press conference REALLY left a lot of important features unmentioned. Another thing I found odd was that there was zero mention of the "one OS to rule them all." I would have thought Google would make a bigger deal about this being a unifying version of the OS.

are you really worrying, if ICS will be available for the NS?! or did i miss something?
no worries, mates, as far as i have read the statements of google, ICS will definitely come for the NS! of course they have to bring it, i'd buy an f*ing iphone, if my not even 1 year old developer phone was no longer supported! (ok, it was a bluff, i'd never buy that brick, but i'd be really pissed! )
the last thing i read about it was, that they first of all work on the NS-rollout...though i don't think, that it will happen before the galaxy nexus is published...
Edit: "Google Android Chief Andy Rubin stated that Ice Cream Sandwich is on schedule to roll out “a couple of week after” the Galaxy Nexus arrives in the marketplace." -> that may take some time, maybe a christmas present?

So The Nexus One isn't getting official ICS because it doesn't have enough space on the system partition(speculation as no one officially knows the real reason) but do you think this will be the case for many phones including the Captivate? Would suck if the bottleneck for peoples phones would be “not enough space"
*Get Chance and Luck*
There was a link to an article (unofficial) that said Galaxy S, Nexus S, and something else would get ICS.

The main speculation for why the Nexus One is not getting ICS comes down to two things: ROM storage for the system and the processor speed.
First, the Nexus One only comes equipped with 512MB of ROM. After the system files are installed, it leaves something around 200MB for apps, which is not a lot. ICS is supposed to take even more space than GB, so having something like 50-100MB for user apps would be likely...and unpleasant.
The Galaxy S phones all have 2GB of internal ROM I believe, so I don't think that issue will apply.
Second, the Nexus One has an older 1Ghz "Snapdragon" SoC. Although clocked the same as a Galaxy S phone, it is made with an older design, and performs less work per cycle. According to a few articles I have seen, the "Hummingbird" SoC in the Galaxy S phones has up to 3 times the GPU power of the older "Snapdragon" SoC...and roughly a 30% increase in real world performance.
Given that ICS will have hardware acceleration for 2D drawing, the slower processor (especially slow for GPU type elements) is likely a big hindrance, that again, should not apply to the Galaxy S line.
So keep your fingers crossed for this I guess. I will be! I am confident there will be a working unofficial release, but very doubtful about anything official.

oh you can get ICS for this phone right now if you want... It just doesnt have touchscreen support, nor does it have keyboard or anything for that matter. Yeah this phone should probably receive a full update to ICS from samsung because the hardware could certainly handle it but the only real way i see us getting to use anything remotely like ICS is when CM8 comes out and we have full support for Cyanogen its self. I dont think a "stock" ICS rom will ever make it onto this phone because most of the developers will have moved to better phones by the time it will be even possible.
Makes you wish you had a nexus phone or an HTC HD2 right?

I think the early work some of the developers have done here has given us an early preview of what we are in for. It looks great so far, best and smoothest my nexus has been.
I think you'll get a better idea though if you read the threads found in the developers section. When reading a thread titled "jelly bean" I get all excited expecting to find OTA is here and ready to flash. Instead I'm leaving my opinion on an SDK based version of 4.1 I feel like a child who just found out Santa has still not been.
