Samsung Vs Android - General Topics

Are you Pro Samsung, or are you Pro Android. I ask this question, because of Samsung's future plans with their Tizen OS. I'm sure everybody knows about this OS. But I'm not sure any of use fully understand what Samsung is going to be doing with it. And what it will mean for Android running on their devices in the future... I don't really see this OS being a threat to Android. But with Samsung's notable market share in the Android landscape, and uninformed consumers. Can it get a strong hold on some of Androids market share.

No it won't android has been out for a while and fixed nearly every bug and tweaked it and made it faster and tastier I think it would be a while until Tizen could actually go head to head with android and ios.

I'd love to have a phone with "easy" hardware, on which one could install Android, Tizen or Ubuntu at will, so one can try and choose the one wich fits better his own needs.

I'm not really interested in Tizen... I kind of wanted to see where people stand on the issue... Samsung has been the top Android OEM, but are we for Android, and just choose Samsung devices, or are we with Samsung, that just so happens to be using Android... And when the time comes, will we stick with one, or the other, Samsung with Tizen, or Android... I kind of also like to see what people think of Tizen... I'm not really sure what to think of the OS. I'll be staying with Android, I know that much...

More afraid of Samsung staying with Android but going the way of Amazon. They want the money from the ecosystem. Wouldn't be surprised if in the future you have to pick a kindle phone, Samsung phone, or Google phone depending on where you want your content and apps to come from. Google Play subscriptions / apps? Amazon subscriptions / apps? Samsung subscriptions / apps? etc

That's why we have XDA

Remember the viability of the OS is almost totally dependant on the catalog of apps. BlackBerry OS 7 & 10 were very functional and secure OS'es but lost their appeal in the market because of the lack of apps. The same could be said for Windows Phone 8 which is much easier to control on the corporate level than either iOS or Android. But IT groups are too scared to give out the phones due to app envy complaints. Tizen could be the second coming but if it doesn't have a catalogue of a 100k apps day one it won't go anywhere.

[Q] Android on iPad 2(Because TouchPad runs twice as fast on iPad 2)

So, if TouchPad runs twice as fast on the iPad 2, why don't you guys, devs, try to install Android 2.3 or Android 3 on an iPad 2, and see the results? I believe it's possible because Android is Open source(ok maybe Android 2.3) and because you guys have dual booted iOS with Android on an iPhone. I don't believe it's silly, because you might get some data. I believe it's worth a try. Opinions?
+1 from me. I think it's a brilliant idea. I think though that the whole attempt won't be a walk in the park even in the very early stages (ie: no 3G/wifi/BT working etc) due to drivers. I say so because of the fact that I haven't been able to find a 'modified' f/w for the iPad1/2... at least just yet!

Apple hardware is nice... Real nice. So weather you like iOS or not, I think Honeycomb on the iPad 2 would be sweet.
It is my understanding that this will become more feasible when Google releases the source code for Honeycomb, as they are holding onto it for now.

I too have been wondering if there has been any progress putting android on ipad?
Gingerbread would be alot sweeter than ios on ipad 2. And. Agree apple hardware is stylish and bomb.
I would also like to see an android tablet running ios. That would probably be really really hard. There's nothing wrong with apple. Apple ftw

My work gave me a free ipad 2 to keep, but iOS just isn't working for me (the app selection, it turns out, isn't really as great as people make it out to be - games being the sole exception.) And running iphone apps on ipad just plain sucks - they don't scale to the screen size nearly as well as android apps do. Plus, not having a universal back button is downright annoying.
Anybody know of any android ports that are in progress?
hi
I'm probably resurrecting an old post. I have a spare ipad 2 that I would like to android. Is this still possible?
Could someone direct me on how this can be done, jailbreak etc, or maybe direct me to the correct thread if it is possible
thanks in advance

I hate WP7 still but the use of HTML 5 is impressive
I took a brief break from Android before I got my Skyrocket, and I used a Samsung Focus during that time (with Mango). Windows Phone is really simple, and very fast. I never noticed any lag when using the phone.
But it is too simple for me. It's like using iOS back when it was in version 2 or 3. There's very little you can customize, and the app selection is still lacking.

Agreed. Pretty cool concept.
I don't know the interface in wp7 is really unified and has the same design language in all of its apps. I used to own a sgs but I find wp7 really pleasent to use over android. I also like that I dpn have to put sp much work into the phone but with android there are cool things that you can do with it. I won't pit android down but each isn't one size fits all

"The phone doesn’t have a home button, a slider-based lock screen, a "settings" tile, or an app switcher toggle. Instead, a user accesses these functions by swiping various edges of the screen."
Reminds me a lot of the BB10 gestures. Did anyone have a look on mashable where they gave 10 people a BB10 to use to figure out very basic things like unlocking and finding apps?
Let's just say the UX may take some getting used to, that being said if the value proposition is there I think people will be willing to go the extra mile for a new experience.

Google are becoming Apple, every new update they've done something to restrict the freedom of the platform or make you jump through several menus to get to what used to just be there, kinda like Windows 8 lol.
After using Symbian on the 808, I just think Android is so far behind it in terms of functionality, Nokia let you do anything, they don't care, though they ditched it now so why should they lol. I wish they didn't ditch it now though and I wish the 808 had newer specs because the browser is so slowwwwww!

With ads forming a big revenue for some many developers Google was contemplating it for a while. I guess it will soon be side loaded ad blockers only. I hope they allow update to older already present ad blockers.

Androids are no more exciting......

The hype of android is now over. It has become a PC like thing against apple. So history is repeating itself. Yes we know they now have a large app base unlike in 2011, when the big titles were only on ios. But now things are changed. We all know that android turns into a giant and this transformation was rapid. But if we see in detail its just like microsoft and intel. A new processor with more hertz and a new windows. So now is the point when all the ics and jb devices can do everything alike besides games.
Kids who own their devices to play games are justified to get an upgrade but for a lil older folks and retired teens. I find hard to get a reason to upgrade to some different size, when i am so used to of my phone. Its been 2 years that i am having my phone. There are lot of phones in the market now some even more bigger and some slightly small. But there is no other phone with 5.3 inch screen size. Which i think is the ideal and max for the pocket.
The bad thing that happened is that i cant use even a slightly small phone because it feels very small.
Anyone agreeing with my view or any criticism is appeciated.

I dare you to get a note 2 and stick it in your pocket. The device fits in my jeans and dress slacks. I should add I use the ZL extended battery. The best thing about the note 2 in my opinion is its readability. I use my phone more because of it.
After rooting, flashing a custom rom, and overclocking my LG Optimus V, it became exciting one again.

The hard part is we all just switched to android without asking them about the security of it. There ia no official claim about how secure it is. Has your data been stolen off your phone? Linux has built in security and you can't do anything major without root plus Jelly bean android added security features. Just as long as you don't download apps from unknown sources you are fine. Now we can see the OP is just another clueless apple troll.
Android
Well there's loads of devices out there for Android, yet there are some form factors that I'd like to see on a high end phone but doesn't come...
For instance, I wanna see a Palm Pre like QWERTY portrait slider... Also a regular QWERTY candy bar phone...
Why do the manufacturer's think that Android doesn't need a physical keyboard? The ones that do come out with physical kbs these days are poor designs and low end phones. I can think of a few people in my family who would love an Android phone with a proper physical kb.
Development have been slow for 4.3, even in Nexus community. Some ROM builders/ teams have stopped development completely. That's something bad.
androids are cool
Actually since the security issues. People are not going custom or rooted. Plus going custom is what fascinates the teens and younger folks. Its also time consuming backing up data and restoring on the newly flashed system and then going back. People now simply wait for the official update, in the past it took even a year for ics to come but now the process is quickened.
Devs are not investing time to make custom rather they are going for app development.

Well, I think it depends... In my case I love to have devices running like I want (and no like brands want). So I don't have problem with do some backups and then try and mod some Roms.
Until when??? I have been doing this for 3 years. There is a point when you are fed up of just trying to make something perfect which according to you always have room for something new. So its just a blind chase. In the end its just a lil browsing some games messaging and calls that we have to make. A little social networking too if you use your phone cam
