worst mistake to get captivate :( no help here

i ordered captivate knowing there will be nice people to support in this forum but there is none. i posted thread 2 times and both times its deleted without even informing me. i offer people free ps3 games and bluetooth headset still nobody wants to help here with lag fix and downloading rom? worst experience ever.

Great words Miami_Son...Lol, it sounds like he's waiting for a personal invite to information that is abundantly available in this forum. 2 months ago I had no idea how to do anything with my Cappy beside make a phone call and now I'm changing ROM's and themes more often than I change my drawers.
Bit of advice there the_ahmadzais, get a clue and quit waiting for someone to ask you if you need help. Read, read, read, read, all the information you need is all here with the click of you mouse. :/

Captivate is my first android phone. Reading is all I needed to do to get into flashing and custom roms. Rooting can't be any easier with programs like Super One click and the like.

To an extent I can understand getting tired of the same questions over and over. I can understand if someone asks something on page 284 in a thread that was potentially answered all the way back on page 56 of the same thread. But when the answer to the question is three posts up (or a page back)... yeah that's being absolutely lazy.

Yay another typo. Too lazu to proofread but not too lazu to clog this thread up with more useless crap?

Another thing that would help is for everyone not to post their every thought in development threads. Then the lazu people would have an easier time reading through the thread...

But this is the proper thread to post this in, our not? that was posted using the htc trace, since went back to swype. Was only trying to make the point that most of the answers are readily available and that needles post in the devs section do nothing but force the devs to just ignore the true problems.

To the OP:
You have a valid point. However, when you say it with cursing and misspelled words, it puts your argument on a foundation built on quicksand.
I generally do not like reading through 10 pages of comments in order to find possible bugs and such that go something like:
"WHEN'S THE NEXT UPDATE COMING OUT???!!!" or "THANKSSSS WORKS GREAT ON MY PHONE!!!!"
People can say those things (at least the later one [no developer likes hearing about ETAs]) in the normal forums. Save your praises for the said ROM there guys.
However, I don't expect it to change, because most of those that would be doing that would also not care about reading this thread or changing their habits, sadly
Mostly, the forums just need more consistent moderation of topics to prune out posts that aren't needed in development threads or have them relocated to another forum/thread where they can be seen, but not deleted.

im still new to this but im running leedroid 3.2.1. and i hear people talk about over clock and was wondering what it was i already dl the setcpu bt idk how to use it. also was wondering if i were to change to a different rom how would i do that just save new rom on sd card and install? another thing is when i loaded the lee droid my phone says its a desire and rom manager doesnt work it keeps saying rom manger has stopped. thanks for the help in advance

First off let me apologize for Scotts response to you. It was neither helpful or informative.
In order to better help you, give us more details about the rommanager errors that you recieve. Have you considered flashing to another ROM? I use virtuous unity (now v1.25) and think it is rad. Overclocking is a pretty advanced skillset and difficult to master even for old pros. My inspire let's my ROM do the clicking for me, I love it.

I agree. The search function does answer most questions, and searching would be much less taxing if the forums weren't cluttered with new threads asking the same ol' questions...and I still think this Scott fellows responses are funny . Not apologizing for him or endorsing him at all. But I laugh .

You and me both. And your right if they weren't so cluttered. But if you type your whole question in the search bar you tend to pull up the exact answer you need. Maybe I'll make a sticky on how to use the search feature lol.

Just to clarify... My post history speaks for itself. I'd say 6 or 7 out of every 10 of my posts are actually helping people, the other 3 or 4 of the 10 are telling it like it is.
I try to make them as sarcastic as I feel the situation requires, and trust me, it gets worse, but I restrain myself.
1 or 2 of those 3 or 4 "not so helpful" posts of mine, I'll often come back to the thread later on, and, if the poster has offered some degree of acknowledgement or reasonable justification for their lapse, I'll often apologize and even help... at that point.
Why not just help them in the first place?

I've never started a single new thread, and I've managed to learn quite a bit in a short time. There's no excuse for others not using the existing knowledgebase that is already available to them here on XDA.
I feel it's only fair that people make a reasonable attempt to carry their fair share of the load... Learning how this **** works a little. . . just a little. . . on their own first, instead of assuming everyone here as nothing better to do than sit around waiting for the honor of answering the same questions over and over and over again.
Because if you don't nip it in the bud, often times, some people take it for granted, and start posting every little question that flows through their mind.
You aren't helping those people, you're making them lazy, and setting them up to get flamed harder in the future.

Indeed. I mean, it's next to impossible not to come off sounding like a prick. How does one get the message across otherwise?
Like I said, it's all in the way the initial question is posed that determines for me the way I'll respond, and the context.
When it comes to radios, I usually help with no reservations whatsoever, because it's a little trickier than other stuff, people get tripped-up on the different methods out there, and because it could mess up your phone if the perfect storm of events comes to pass for somebody.

Over clocking has gotten a little more difficult in certain roms. For instance,I run unity,and with the newer version they say don't use set CPU. Set CPU is just easier and does the work for you. Make sure to read the lee Droid thread through and through to see what others have had the best of luck with. As far as searching try "lee Droid overclock" to see if you can narrow it down quicker. The answer is out there,and with a little motivation you will be answering your own questions in no time. Also,don't be offended by any member that post a somewhat rude post,because those are the poeple who 9 times outta 10 answered the same question a million times. By these member being blunt,it sometimes actually helps the situation. What I do if someone answers my question with "its already been answered",I assume they have answered it somewhere or,since they know where the answer is,I go to there profile and read through the post's to help narrow it down. If you look through my profile I started a lot of threads my self,but quit because by sitting back and watching you learn more. Hell lately I haven't even been active in the dev threads lol. Anyways,best of luck to you new comer. It all gets easier in time

Its a little tough here on xda but its true that you need to try it out yourself and see what the difference is...personally between the 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 leaks we have, I noticed that 4.0.4 seems to be a lot smoother for me and battery drain seems a little better but I'm going to have to wait for a complete power cycle before I can confirm this

Not just in reply to this but the whole thing. I found this post looking for, well an answer the question that was initially asked. And very quickly pressed the back button on the browser and regoogled. I think the point is XDA is for a higher calibre level of experience and technical understanding and not for your day to day stuff you could read in a geek magazine, or Android Forums for example. Am I right? Just so I know not to make the mistake myself coz u guys get nasty

And I don't know how I never noticed this at the time, But you guys didn't either.
He never asked which was better, he asked what the major changes were,
Why would you guys suggest someone go through the steps required to install a new android version, instead of just answering their question............ Noobs aren't the problem, the arrogant behavior of the experienced members however..

I disagree, the community itself was built on the backs of do it yourselfers who spent a lot of time and effort to learn and share development, sources, and ideas. The mentality of xda has changed from that of the do it yourselfer spitballing ideas on better code implementation or how to get things working to that of a help desk where it's no longer a community striving to improve and learn they just want things now. Most are content never knowing the effort involved in compiling a ROM or how to modify an apk, hell most can't even use adb to capture logs. The issue here is most certainly complacency amongst newer members. The mentality needs to change in order to see improvement, that's why you see these old timers so grumpy because honestly it's ridiculous the amount of easily searchable questions run through xda.

I've been thinking maybe a sister site is needed. XDAusers sounds about right. Send all the "I want it now and I won't search" types over that way. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Some will help with devving, some will cry like a two year old when they get a bootloop. It takes all kinds. One thing I have noticed though. Those that can search and read are almost never heard from. Why? Because they search and read. A catch-22 at its finest.

Does anyone know what we are waiting for to have JB and Sense or have I missed that Rom

Really? Hmmm....yep there was tons of sense 4+ roms here and they just disappeared....no if you simply searched Google or read a little bit for like two mins maybe less you'd realize only the intl one x has jb with sense and we don't have any leaks yet.......

Someone is porting sense 4.5 from the droid DNA tho. But it's very unstable at the moment

I have read and realize that only the One X and not the One XL has a JB with sense. What i am asking is what are waiting for (ex a leak, a port). I see you have answered that, but could have just answered with out the the silliness.

I'm sorry if I came off a little rude but like Elvis said only so many threads on the sane topic can a sane man take until he gets to become a curmudgeon on that basis...and also.as stated its just kind of a preview Rom but newtoroot did port. To thoes who that this was another redundant thread, I didn't mean for that to happen. I really didn't know how to word a search for what I was questioning. But thanks to who answered.

You actually did sound quite rude, when you could've just let others answer in a more better manner.
Search button? Yeah like that works so smoothly. .Lmao
And sometimes it's hard for others who's not so familiar with the subject and there's A lot to look in /read.
Sometimes it doesn't hurt to just ask and if anyone knows and is willing to answer, then let them.leave all your negative comment and complaining to yourself which isn't helping anyone and leaving others to look through more stuff before finding an actual answer.

Idk how long you've been lurking the one xl forums but the answer to that q is everywhere...and I did answer the question.... Also I'd like to know why you felt high and mighty today to single me out when other people posted worse things in this thread? I get it its ok..you just aren't the brightest kid....and I doubt you bothered to read but I said my apologies so go **** yourself and stop trying to act like a little policeman....people can use google **** it'll give you more info than here it's not that dam hard or he could look in the one xl forum and after like 1min find the answer.....still don't know why you signaled me out but ok but you're truly pathetic I answer questions very often to the best of my ability to help people there's only after so many threads on the same thing that you know people didn't search even five seconds.....it's time for you to put some big boy pants on buddy

I find the Search function at xda works quite well. I use it all the time and usually find what I'm looking for.
Yeah, there is a lot to read, but that's what we do here: We read and research before asking questions that have been answered 100 times already.
There's a good reason why the forum rules ask people to search first: Starting a new thread when there are already others on the same subject just makes it harder for the next guy to find what he needs to know. So by not doing that, they're exacerbating the very problem you're complaining about here.

There should be some type of monitoring to tell if some one searched first, before posting then ban them for not searching.

See xda has this feature when you try to make a post it takes you title and compares it to similar posts to try and prevent double posting. People just need to pay attention to that
