Is not proofreading a sign of lazuness?

Well that was random.

To an extent I can understand getting tired of the same questions over and over. I can understand if someone asks something on page 284 in a thread that was potentially answered all the way back on page 56 of the same thread. But when the answer to the question is three posts up (or a page back)... yeah that's being absolutely lazy.

Yay another typo. Too lazu to proofread but not too lazu to clog this thread up with more useless crap?

Another thing that would help is for everyone not to post their every thought in development threads. Then the lazu people would have an easier time reading through the thread...

But this is the proper thread to post this in, our not? that was posted using the htc trace, since went back to swype. Was only trying to make the point that most of the answers are readily available and that needles post in the devs section do nothing but force the devs to just ignore the true problems.

To the OP:
You have a valid point. However, when you say it with cursing and misspelled words, it puts your argument on a foundation built on quicksand.
I generally do not like reading through 10 pages of comments in order to find possible bugs and such that go something like:
"WHEN'S THE NEXT UPDATE COMING OUT???!!!" or "THANKSSSS WORKS GREAT ON MY PHONE!!!!"
People can say those things (at least the later one [no developer likes hearing about ETAs]) in the normal forums. Save your praises for the said ROM there guys.
However, I don't expect it to change, because most of those that would be doing that would also not care about reading this thread or changing their habits, sadly
Mostly, the forums just need more consistent moderation of topics to prune out posts that aren't needed in development threads or have them relocated to another forum/thread where they can be seen, but not deleted.

[Request] Use the search button first, please!

Hi everyone,
So I've seen this issue resurface many times in many different threads, most recently in the updating inspire thread. My requests are simple:
IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE FORUM, PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION. IF THEN, YOU STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND, FEEL FREE TO ASK (AND MAKE SURE YOU MENTION THAT YOU TRIED).
IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO FLAME SOMEONE THAT DIDN'T SEARCH, BE POLITE. If you want to answer their question too, go ahead.
If someone doesn't answer their question but asks them to search first, please don't flame them either. It's absolutely useless to redo the debate that's been had many many times before. Some people prefer not to answer questions in these cases while others don't. Let's all live happily ever after and not get on each others' backs because we're all experienced and veteran users trying to help others out. There is no need to get testy or question why someone does or doesn't answer a question. To each their own.
Now, back to my ORD (obsessive rom-flashing disorder for you newbies)...
Agreed.
I try to be as polite as possible without compromising the message. Sometimes it's difficult not to come across like a jerk when all you have to communicate with is text and smilies.
I often start feeling bad, thinking I was too harsh, and end-up going back and trying to make amends, anyway.

I've been living in forums for far too long to fret over this. I have a whole like 15 posts here but started back over a yr ago with my Rhodium. Now I'm getting into the more modded styles and am enjoying passing on what I've read here even gotten a few other friends to join. All cause this forum has a huge database of knowledge with an actual small amount of flaming.

I try not to get to upset or flame to much. But sometimes I cant help it lol. I just had someone tell me not to be a douche when I gave them the answer and told him to search. He said theres 214 pages on this thread. I have to admit I lost it called him out and said my fair share of bad words lol. And told him exactly what i searched for and what page to find the answer on. There is no excuse for ignorance or stupidity in this age of google and forums. I have come to find more often then not its laziness and just wanting someone to give them the answer rather then find it out. I personally find that I learn more when I search and usually find even more useful info out. That's my 2 cents.

Holding someone's hand never encourages or lets them learn!

You are the type of user who completely does not care about anything but trying to prove there intelligence. Here is what a user should do when having a problem:
1: read,read......read!
2: read over all you read, again
3: do a couple searches
4: retry what you did that caused the problem
5: after all that fails, ask the question you need an answer too
I DID ALL OF THAT YOU ASS.
I read all 200 and something pages of the thread before i ever asked my question, and as hard as it is for you to beleive,I read over what I was looking for.

The reason search isn't as effective it could be is because there is so much duplicate content from noobs asking the same quetsions over and over.
In a way XDA site has become a end user support site more so than a tech/dev site.

Its not about whether or not people should search, im sure alot do and alot dont. Problem is some the the questions they are asking might be answered to someone who already knows the answer. To the one asking the question it was only partially answered in the post they searched for, then u get these forum nazi's jumping all over them saying search search search, usually the one saying that says it for post count or just to have something to say period, because they dont have any answers.
If i know the answer, I will answer it if it wasnt already answered. There are plenty nice peeps on here that answer, and not half assed. What is clear to peeps that have a good understanding of what there doing to begin with, is not always clear to someone with little to no knowledge of modding there phones.
Thanks to everyone here that does have the patience to help all the noobs out. If everyone was a smartass about everything what good would the forums be.

That's what all of this is about... Community moderation.. reminding people of the rules when mods aren't around to do it, which is a lot of the time.
But, as I'm finding out, it's not a very popular thing with a lot of people. I got accused of "acting like god of this forum," because I reminded someone, after that person had their question answered by another poster, to search a little better next time. It was one of the most commonly questions here.

Your rite. See knewbs can be aggrivating, but we were once all one our selves. And yes, knewbs should search and read first, and if they have a problem, then ask a question. But someone shouldn't jump down there throat off the bat, assuming they didn't search first. I mean, sometimes I have a hard time finding something by googlin it and my gf will find it with one search LOL. So its not just the knewbs clustering the place, its also people who Jump down there throat and cause an argument that lasts 2 pages worth of thread. Here's an example of how I think it should be done
Knewb: " i tried to install android evelution and keep getting reboots"
Member: " did you search?"
Knewb: "yes and I can't find anything on it"
Member: "ok try full wiping, then reflashing. If that doesent work, post back here and im sure we can help you out"
See,like give them an easy answer ya know? And if they cone back saying it didn't work, then its time to be the members of a great forum, and help the guy, atleast tell him what to read through to resolve the problem. On the other hand,if a knewb comes off like there not even willing to try and help there selves, then don't even respond. In the long run it will save a lot of space on the forum. Instead of being jerks,we can guide the knewbs to being a intelligent user, that way they will be the ones answering questions down the road. Of we did that, then it would save time for the more experienced users to make great stuff for us here at xda. I'm not taking up for knewbs here,I'm just saying that there not the only ones clustering the place. And I'm not talking about the guys who come off as a jerk because there responding to something over the internet,I mean the ones who snap on a knewb, without leaving nothing but an half ass answer, and a rude comment that leads to a huge argument.
My 2cents,I have plenty more

Rite. See the users that have knowledge, need to guide the knewbs so there will be more experienced users to do so. Sometimes I come off as taking up for the knewbs, but its just that the people that's been here a while or have intelligence about all this, can make this place better, and control situations if we just do like you said, and say hey "try searching a little bit next time bud" instead of "omg you rlidiot,go search before you post" ya know?

[RANT] When did XDA become the next social networking site?

Sorry, but I have to ask, what would make someone go into a DEVELOPMENT section of a forum (when there is a General Section available), open up a DEVELOPMENT thread, hit the "post reply" button, and type "@ work but will download and flash later" or "I'm sitting on the john right now, but soon as I wipe my ass I'm flashing this bad boy! "?!? It seems like some of the members (no offense, but mostly noobs and recent members) have been spending so much time on SpaceBook and MyFace, (done on purpose) that you're unable to switch modes when coming to an online site where nobody really gives a rats bottom about your play-by-play shinanagans. Simple "this doesn't work" or "this mod sucks/rocks" is all that's needed in a Dev thread.
To get to the point, how bout people stop posting their damn "status" in DEVELOPMENT threads and at the very least, save that nonsense for HERE, the General Section.??? It'll make life here on XDA so much more enjoyable. This is just my opinion of course, but I'm sure I'm not alone.
~B.E~
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Eh, I'm a noob, so I'm not sure if my opinion is valid/matters, but I sort of agree. I have never been on a forum where every single thread (dev section) gets to well past 30 pages. Heck, on the other primary forum I'm on, 30 pages instantly makes a thread legendary, and here it's the norm. I definitely agree that there's way too many people who post simple updates like "downloading right now will report later" and to be honest I did that a couple times. I stopped though and haven't posted recently in the dev section because there's way too much of that going on. I avoided the dev section for like 2 days, came back and checked the thread of the current ROM I'm using and the discussion had advanced by like 10 pages. Makes finding the useful information extremely difficult and I basically gave up (who knows, maybe there's a useful tidbit about how to improve battery life for my specific ROM that I'm missing?).
@The Janitor Mop...
My point exactly. It makes finding fixes and what not such a pain because you're forced to read thru all the nonsense (200+ posts) to find the one post you needed. Its ridiculous and only seems to be getting worse. A Dev Thread should be a useful tool...for development...(imagine that). I'm no developer but I can only imagine how frustrated I'd be if I checked my thread for bug reports and had to wade thru that madness.

Couldn't agree more.
I'm going to reply to this thread right after I flush...
Alright cool, so what were we talking about again? Oh yeah, you're absolutely right. I can't stand reading so many short pointless messages when trying to find bug reports when a new release is out. Something needs to happen about this.
EDIT: Ahh ^ stole my shtick
I agree 100% I now dread going into dev section and heaven forbid you miss the one page where a fix is answered you get your head ripped off cause you didn't search! Damned if you do eh?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
Perhaps it's the difference between the US and the rest of the world. I personally like to have a community that communicates and likes to have a bit of banter. If the ROM threads were just 'this is cool' then it would be INSANELY boring.
And if a fix is issued then really it should be added to the OP (which 9 times out of 10 it is). Yes, pointless posts shouldn't be up but there's NOTHING wrong with people talking about the ROM in its relative thread if it's ROM related
Anyway, gotta get back to Facebook

Back to the topic. About having people praising roms in their respective thread, isn't what the thanks button is for?
I like to believe that the rom threads should be a place to help other users work bugs out or offer tips and suggestions. Nothing more, nothing less.
When? Maybe when XDA added the Twitter and Facebook buttons next to the titles of threads. (And the Facebook share button doesn't work either)
Thank you for bringing this up. I too am tired of having to weed through pages of one sentence "WOOT downloading now!" Twitters before finding anything important and meaningful.
It is almost as if the dev section should increase the minimum number of characters in a post (a lot). This would also force people to provide more details about their problem rather than "I flashed and doesn't work. What could be wrong?"
This is really problematic for me as well because I manually read through every page of every thread in Dev because if I just used the search button there'd be less to complain about in /general.
/sarcasm
I don't do this but I don't see why it's a big deal either. Important fixes get added to OP's and search finds your keywords, no matter if people post things that are not useful to you in the same thread...It has no bearing on my ability to find information but to each, their own!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
Dev threads have been like that for as long as I can remember. It is especially bad when awaiting a new nightly for CyanogenMod.
I do agree with the OP to an extent. Too much crap cluttering up ROM threads. A little is expected, especially when a ROM is updated, but it can be annoying.
I agree this has been going on for a while. Every thread in the dev section can lose 75% of the posts and still make sense.
As for bug fixes, etc. being posted in the OP, I think some devs need to work on that. Sure, they post changelogs and updates but there are some questions that get asked a million times. If devs took the time to just copy/paste some of these exchanges into an FAQ in the OP it would help. Some devs are better at these types of bulletins than others. Of course, it doesn't help that most noobs never check back to the first and second posts before asking a question. Things won't change.
Just wiping my ass at the moment but when I'm done I will be sure to press thanks.

To answer the OP, CM 7.1 was recently released out of release candidate status. The charge however is not on the supported list yet. There's still a lot of work to be done before it's ready to be loaded on anyone's phone. Hang in there. There's a good amount of other ROM's currently available for the Charge though that are worth looking into. (Humblecomb, GummyCharged, DCTQ to name a few)

There are literally two new threads about this a week. You don't even have to search. Just look in the Q&A forum and click back one or twice. Hell...you don't even have to do that right now. There's one started two days ago that is the first non-sticky post on the first page as I type this.
Asking questions is fine, but we have community guidelines, FAQ's, and search buttons for a reason.
The first response answered the question. (And mentioned the fact that this is the wrong forum for Q&A)
Maybe all the mini-mods should just hit the report button and let the real moderators do their job instead of posting a bunch of useless crap. If you don't want to see the useless posts maybe replying and putting them back at the top of the forum is not such a good idea.
Questions or Problems Should Not Be Posted in the Development Forum
Please Post in the Correct Forums and Read THIS
Moving to Q&A
Last time I checked cm7 is development just about everything is a question posted on here and if I knew what to search for I would didn't know people got their panties all in a bunch over the wrong forum topic but I appreciate the response that was helpful Thanx a lot

I was in agreement that most of the responses were uncalled for until the OP responded. It's difficult to feel bad when that attitude is taken towards people that actually contribute to the forum.

CM7 is development. Your question about CM7 is not development. Your question is a question. If you would like to know what you should type in the search to find out about CM7, first try "CM7". I am sorry the developers and mods who spend their time making our phones awesome and maintaining the forums were not nicer to you when you posted a question in the development forum after not reading a single forum guideline. I'm sure they're sorry. Hope this helped.

Maybe I was rude, but I went and typed in CM7 in the search box for just the DROID Charge forums (all of them) and came up with 12 topics. Searching for cyanogenmod came up with 5 topics. I could also search either of those items with droid charge added to them in Google, Yahoo, or Bing, and end up with the most relevant info being on the first page of results too. Seeing that any one of those options would have taken less time than it took you to create this thread, which was initially in the incorrect forum, maybe you can see why people responded the way they did. Why should anyone else put forth any effort when you couldn't take 30 seconds to even begin to search on your own?
All questions like this should automatically spam the OP with PMs of LMGTFY links.
It's really quite ridiculous.
Honestly, if you're not smart enough to form a relatively basic search like so many people have laid out here in this and other related threads (oh so many threads), then you really shouldn't be attempting to do something so complicated as loading unsupported OS builds onto your phone.

Atrix 2 could get unlocked bootloader

The last comment seems to suggest Moto could be following in HTC's footsteps. Sorry if I posted in the wrong section. Just seems like the best news we have gotten in regards to our atrix 2

He posted this in the wrong forum. How does this even have anything to do Development on the Atrix 2?
The answer, it doesn't.
I know that myself and the other devs in here, are so tired of people who don't follow the rules and make idiot posts, and you go and stick up for another one of these dumb posts.... you can go join him in the banned category.
Please learn how to search there are several posts in the last 24 hours about this.

Look, I am Kind of in the middle here. It does piss me off big time when people do this, but I understand. Do you remember the **** storm that came when we had the first ICS leak? there were like 50 posts ad 100s in one topic repeating things.
My point is that sometimes people do just get excited and forget to read. I do get mad, but I have some forgiveness if they admit their wrongness and delete it.
I know XDA is about the developers, but none of us started that way. Most of us learned from this forum, we started as n00bs. I remember the first time I softbricked my phone, and freaked out. I spent hours researching how to get it back. Now I could do it in my sleep (and sort of have).
I certainly am not at your level yet, but I do know what I am doing a lot more than I did 709 posts and 225 thanks ago. I originally thought to myself "how am I ever going to get 10 posts" when I was trying to post in the dev section.
Let people know when they are being dumb, but have some forgiveness as long as they realize it and fix it.
Sorry for posting this, I usually just check the Development section. I thought it was noteworthy, would be happy to delete this to clean up the Development section if someone can tell me how. I have been a XDA member for a long time but I rarely post, so I am not sure how to delete the thread if it is even possible. Hopefully this does mean good news for us Atrix 2 owners if Motorola decides to start unlocking program like HTC.

Exactly! Why banish the noob who is trying to learn. Or just does not know. The whole point to this website is a community of devs, phone enthusiasts, and geeks.
I actually find it quite rude. Maybe if this post was fake. Or maybe it linked you to a rick roll ....whatever then I would laugh and be annoyed.
All I'm saying is that this person was trying to help. They posted something of value that some of us had no knowledge of.
Just my 2 cents.
Hit the thanks button if I helped or if I just made you laugh!!!
Actually an unlocked boot loader has a fair amount of something to do with the dev section but hey what do I know. I'm just the guy tired of people being dicks and pricks to people who screw up.
Thanks for not letting me down on the posts. Albeit I was expecting more...I don't know...maybe just more.
My point is instead of insulting the guy by calling him blind, he could have been decent and simply stated it had been posted and just say please check.
Its a common theme here. As soon as someone has their own rom they tend to become raging pricks and think they own the dev section. I could be just seeing things one way but its seems to be how things have been lately.
Now if the mods feel I should be banned for calling people out on being less than nice, oh well. There are worse things in the world than being kicked off a forum for 24 hours. I'd say being rude to a guy trying to be helpful would be one but u digress.

I won't argue that. Its annoying to say the least, but we shouldn't expect everyone to magically follow the rules and be rude to people. People can disagree and hate me all they want, but being rude and callous has never once helped a situation.

Man...even just the browser. Google. Bing that ****, whatever. Way easier anyway right? I'm sure that's how most of us started reading up on androids and rooting. Rules are given to you in the begining to read for a reason. I know most people don't read that cuz they think it's bull**** or whatever. But it is what it is...rules are rules. Just like laws...sure you can break em n get away with it here n there or minor infractions. But get the wrong Mod up in here n you can kiss your ass goodbye on a lil vacation. I know this from expeirence in other Forums. It's cool to give out news but do it in the right spot, or just reply to a thread already made. Posting a new thread should be a last resort if you cannot find your topic anywhere! Whatever, dude made a mistake. First reply could've been a little more humble about it and informative I guess. And OP should have searched before posting. Let's delete and move on...Don't make em walk the plank...we all family here right? Hahahaha.
Edit: and post #3 should know better too man. Come at dude in a better way. Like Jim said, That flaming stuff makes you look bad on the forums n no one will wanna help you out in the future. It's cool man, mistakes are made. We're not perfect.

In a way you right that an unlocked bootloader should have something to do with dev work, but again the rules state that ONLY your own work goes into the dev section. Not Q&A or posts that have some information about an unlocked bootloader, or even a ROM from another phone you want a dev to port. All of those things belong in the General section.
The reason I get frustrated is because I give my time and effort and a whole lot of my non-working time, freely I might add, to dev work here on XDA, so when there is little respect shown to the rules, that also shows little respect to the developers in here. I will have to say that your post was way worse than the OPs mistake, because you also showed little respect for the developers on here. and your last post showed even less respect for our devs in here.
And yes I will totally admit that the guy calling the OP blind was uncalled for, but again by doing what you have done shows little respect to our dev community and that makes me not want to read your posts or help you out if you get in a bind.

Jim for the record you are one of the few that I actually like. That said you are doing exactly what I was talking about. You don't need to pat yourself on the back or tell us who you are and what you do. We know already. We've all been here long enough to know your contributions.
Again people can hate me, but I have to speak my mind when I have something to say. Its who I am. You can call it as you see it just as I did with the first response.
If anyone feels I don't contribute, so be it. If they don't want to help me, so be it. I'm a big boy and can manage to figure it out. I'm still going to speak my mind. I wouldn't begrudge anyone for doing it as long as they dont insult people...well at least insult them with a little class.

I might have been harsh but this forum is getting bloated everyday by dupe posts n irrelevant questions that have already been answered N number of times. And for a person posting n following bootloader news and checking atrix2 section for development it aint that hard to check other and new posts. How many times has everyone said here that please look before you repost please use search..Had OP done a little search on the topic he would have got the result.Forget about that even while making a new thread if your topic name is same XDA throws up search result, Still people go on making same topic threads again for what ? just to gain posts ? This is not the way someone behaves on forum.Forums have rules and they are meant to be followed. But people don't and look at our forum its so much bloated had everyone followed atleast one rule of searching or looking out there would have been loads of less threads. Also do people really think that posting a topic 1-2 days after its originally posted somewhere is really smart ? Come on this is not your group of friends its INTERNET and it includes people over the world and people who are much smarter than me you or anyone.Accept it.So just give a thought you dont even have to do mathematics, simple logic says that someone would have already posted it,could have search just for sake of that..But again who cares some break rules some take the sides of those who break rules. Can't help and the post like what i made comes out of frustration and losing patience.
PS : A video from XDA for all those who think rules are flexible and taken for granted and there is always a first time :

HTC ONE X (At&t) Sense ROM with JB?

I know I can search around, but Ive been.
Im looking for a fully working, stable, stock sense 4 ROM of the htc One X but has already been updated to JellyBean, like the international version.
Is there any ROM like this out now?
Also, whats the best, easiest to follow guide to root this device?
Someone save me the hassle of searching through the forums with only a click on a touchpad to navigate with (broken+ no mouse atm).
Thank you!
There is no such rom.

Your quick question is asked a hundred times. There's also a dedicated JB thread stickied. Maybe you never learned to read in school, but it's not too late to start learning.

Typical forum person trying to act smart and overeacting on defense mode again.
Quit putting words in my mouth.
Yes, I saw the dedicated JB thread stickied, it's a JB thread and theres ALOT of stuff in there.
Does it hurt to make a specific thread about one aspect of it?nope. Not everyone has the time like you to look over hundreds of texts.
What do you think all these new threads come from?If it could be all rounded in just one main thread.
Only problem I see here is I posted in the wrong section, so calm your tits.

You know whats more annoying? Those REPEATED replies you get on threads talking about how its the same repeated questions again.
Let me break it to you, You aint helping with your repeated insults or whatnot.
It's not like if you say "oh this thread again" or whatnot, the thread will dissappear.
If you're so annoyed at these repeated threads which you know will periodically occur, then IGNORE IT and dont post.
I find threads all the time like that by googling, and what do you see ?Those same repeated annoying replies which arent contributing to the thread, even though the thread's been repeated.
But actually ,those same repeated replies are much worst.
You'd have to scroll and scroll till you get an answer, and that's not providing much help for peple who needs an answer .
If a person has already replied how its been asked before and provided link with help, dont waste your time since youre so bothered about it and ignore it .
WHat do you think forums are?Forums are like that, and will always be like that.
There are always those threads with the same topics again and again.
Now it's becomin infested with defensive, overreacting MOD wannabes.
Also, This is my thread and I started the conversation, if you dont like what Im saying, then dont post!

Not really. Not trying to start a pointless internet fight here, but all you could had done was browse the first page of the Dev section and you would have had the answer you desire.
We have a port right now, but it's more or less something to flash on your phone just to see if it works for a few minutes. Then afterwards go back to the rom you just backed up.
