OK, so I installed the latest ROM manager after rooting my Xoom a few weeks ago and am not understanding what I need to do to have a good backup alternative. I was looking at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358524 but ROM manager doesn't allow backup to external SD card, flashing a different recovery, nor is there an option for 3.2.0. Any help for an app on my tablet similar to ROM manager would be greatly appreciated.

rom manager isn't to great on the xoom, get that latest rogue recovery.
Or just flash solarn's CWM recovery version 3.2.0.0. R4c image file through fastboot and just forget about Rom Manager. It's more trouble than it's worth, IMHO. You can just download QuickBoot from the market if you want to boot into recovery easier, or use Tiamat boot options through the power button if you flash the Moray Rom.

Yeah, I didn't even realize that after I flashed solarnz's image, that it was still there. I just powered on my xoom and tried entering recovery with vol buttons and saw the 3.2.0.0 R4c recovery and wanted to post back my oversight. You guys were too quick for me and have the same perfect solution here. Thanks for your patience everyone!
Cheers!

Likethe title says does ROM manager work on tablets?
Yes, Rom Manager works. You have to have Version 3.0.0.7 or higher to load the Clockwork Mod. Used it yesterday as a matter of fact.

Bekit's version of ClockworkMod v.08 works with GTAB.

When you start using rom manager and use any other recovery but bekit 0.8 go over the development thread and look for nvflash because your gonna need it pretty soon. Rom Manager is NOT recommended for the Gtab. Using any other recovery but bekit 0.8 is a quick way to bork your tab.
You can do everything that is usefully about rom manager in clockwork recovery once you load in bekits version for gtab. You can partition and fix permissions from the advanced options in recovery mode.

Rom manager working yet
So there is an img posted for the viewsonic gtab at:
well, as noob, I can't post the link.
so google for:
my brain hurts rom manager
and then look down the page.
But no instructions on how to apply this img file.
I'm guessing via a manual install, etc...
However, is this compatabile with the clockworkmod recovery version ?
Anyone know if this img will no longer brick the gtab ?
and if I try it and brick the device can I nvflash recover ?
or does it boat anchor the device ?
It would be handy to do nandroid backups from the desktop, but not critical.
thanks
Best to just not try it...
AS far as I can tell, from reading posts, Rom Manager does one thing really well, softbricking G-Tablets.
I can't really find the answer I'm looking for by searching...I've tried...I just rooted my xoom once I have clockwork on it can I boot into recover by using vol + power method or do I need to use a adb to flash roms and kernels? I'm so use to my evo
Sorry if its been answered clearly already...flame away if it makes you feel better ;-)
Thanks guys.

You can manually boot into recovery using the button combo. I do it all the time. The only time I've used adb on my xoom was when I rooted 3.1

you can also get Quick Boot (free in market) and reboot directly to recovery from within android. most roms and kernels have instructions for installation that include clockworkmod. some also have instruction for adb. but for the most part clockworkmod is where you will be flashing from now that your rooted.
Awesome! Thanks a bunch guys
Also I'm assuming that quick boot will boot you into clockwork recovery, correct? Or do you not even need clockwork and can boot into the xooms stock recovery and wipe and flash from there?

Use CW Recovery for flashing but stick with version 3.2.0.0...don't "upgrade" to 4.0.0.x, which doesn't recognize your external sdcard. Quick boot has several options, including recovery, which takes you right to android recovery where you will access CW Recovery.

I already flashed the one from ROM manager which is 4.0.0.x....I bookmarked the 3.2.0.0 thread last night...I'll dl it and give it a spin thanks!
I wanted to know if there was any difference between accessing CWM via holding down the SGS4G buttons during boot and opening Rom Manager and telling it to boot into CWM.
Thanks,
Jeremy
The CWM version from ROM manager is broken for our phones. If you're on Froyo I recommend you uninstall it and then install the Bali 3.3 kernel so you can get a working version with voodoo etc.
If you want to be able to reboot into recovery, you can download the quickboot app which will let you do it without the 3 button combo.
OK. The CWM I used is one I downloaded from an xda article. I had to manually copy it to /system/bin.
The version is 3.2.0.0
If use that to flash will I be OK?
Thanks,
Jeremy
EDIT: never mind... I uninstalled Rom Manager and rebooted the phone to recovery using the quick boot app, then when I went to reinstall packages, I got into the version of CWM that everyone is referring to (3.0.2.8).
Thanks,
Jeremy
Good...yea dont use ROM manager it just causes a lot of problems

Do I have any need or use for the ROM Manager app after I completed the process of flashing ClockworkMod to my phone listed here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
I'm new to this thing and still trying to get a grasp.

Did you flash CWM via NVFlash? If you just download Rom manager and clicked on flash clockworkmod recovery, and something goes wrong, you won't be able to boot into recovery to restore into a different backup.
If you did flash CWM with NVFlash then you can just keep ROM manager, it's a handy tool.
After you flashed the CWM with NVFLash, go here next http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214

Thank you. Yes, I did flash CWM via NVFlash. Then I went to the link you mentioned and rooted the phone. It was only after this that I downloaded the ROM Manager app, just not sure what it offers over what I've already done.

Convenience is all cwm offers over nvflash. As stated if you don't flash via nvflash and you get stuck in a boot loop your stuck till u nvflash the recovery.

Well it's not necessary, what I use it for is to boot into recovery, so that I don't have to turn off my phone, then hold the volume down and power button to boot into recovery. All I have to do is open ROM Manager, then click boot into recovery. You can also make backups install ROMs and update your current ROM via ROM Manager. You can do all of this without ROM Manager, but some people find it easier via ROM Manager.
When trying to update my TF I accidentally flashed an incomplete Rom (got lazy and didn't check MD5...) Anyway, ever since then it ALWAYS boots into CWM (5.8.3.4) If I boot w/Vol DN and let it cold-boot then it will go into a fresh install and setup fine. However, on the next reboot it will go back to CWM 5.8.3.4 I have flashed the newer CWM 6.0.1.4 v2 but it won't "take" the install seems to go fine but it always boots back to the old CWM. I've also flashed other ROMS and they don't "take" either.
Confused...

Install different recovery... use easy flash and push either TWRP recovery or rogue recovery... personally I prefer TWRP recovery.. once you have a new recovery wipe everything ( internal memory also) and install a better ROM...
