[Q] Bizarre CWM problem on TF101 - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When trying to update my TF I accidentally flashed an incomplete Rom (got lazy and didn't check MD5...) Anyway, ever since then it ALWAYS boots into CWM (5.8.3.4) If I boot w/Vol DN and let it cold-boot then it will go into a fresh install and setup fine. However, on the next reboot it will go back to CWM 5.8.3.4 I have flashed the newer CWM 6.0.1.4 v2 but it won't "take" the install seems to go fine but it always boots back to the old CWM. I've also flashed other ROMS and they don't "take" either.
Confused...

Install different recovery... use easy flash and push either TWRP recovery or rogue recovery... personally I prefer TWRP recovery.. once you have a new recovery wipe everything ( internal memory also) and install a better ROM...

Install CWM but always go back to default recovery

Hi
I installed CWM 5 on my Nexus S. I can reboot one time and go back to CWM but after a second reboot, the recovery is back to default and I have to reflash it
Does any of you already experienced this problem ?
happens to me. i go to rom manager and re flash cwm then reboot to recovery.
Are you both using stock? The stock rom has a script that restores the default recovery when you reboot.
Delete / rename /etc/install-recovery.sh
This script writes the stock recovery on boot.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
I've experienced this as well, and plan to re-name install-recovery.sh.
For those that are continually re-flashing the recovery image, do you think there is a possibility of writing to that area too many times?
I've heard of NAND flash dying in flash drives after very data intensive operations, and I've also heard of ROM storage areas having a limited number of writes.
Just wanted to test the waters.

Always flash through Fastboot, Better than flashing from Rom manager.
I renamed /etc/install-recovery.sh and it works
Thanks
Happens to me until I started flashing twice everytime I flash a Rom ... =] try it

CWM recovery problems and how to install .img recovery files

Two questions:
1. How do i flash the new touch recovery without using rom manager (.img file from clockworkmod site)?
2. I installed the latest non touch recovery (with rom manager) but it's causing me problems. Every time i install a new rom I can't boot into recovery. I had to use LG flash tool to reinstall the stock v21e gingerbread and start all over again. Then i installed CM10 (which didnt work) and recovery didn't work again so i had to flash with LG flashtool again. Why is this happening?
With Cm10 I also had problem entering recovery, to enter recovery I've had to remove usb cable, then hold power button for 10sec( to have phone completely off) and then hold 3D+vold down+ power. Was releasing power when have backlight and holding buttons until entering recovery. Hope it will help. For me it works.

Have you tried an older recovery? I'm on CWM 5.0.2.0. Installed with Recovery Manager: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23474089
The older recovery works fine, but that's not the point. I cant think of a single reason why is this happening with the newest version.
So does anyone know how to flash those .img files? Maybe from terminal emulator?

Yeah, you need to use Terminal emulator.
Instructions:
1. Put it on the root of the internal sdcard
2. Open Terminal App
3. Run :
Code:
su
Then
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=4096
4. Reboot and now it would work !
^ Don't know why, but it didn't work for me. Maybe it's needed to install the regular non-touch recovery and then the touch one?
Edit: Nope, that wasn't it. Is CWM 6.0.1.9 for our phone broken? I can't get it to work whatever I try (Recovery Manager or flashing thru Terminal). So I got back to CWM 5.8.1.5 Touch.
I managed to get the latest recovery running. But as soon as I install another rom it stops working. Weird.

I used rom manager and terminal emulator. I still haven't tried the latest touch recovery. I'll keep the older version until this gets fixed.

i have the same problem with my p920, flashing the newest CWM 6.0..1.9 and trying to reboot into it bricks the device...
i wanted to try out CM10, but i'm stucked on the lg logo after flashing it ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35439373&postcount=721 )
At first this thread in the wrong section .
Try this (it's toooo easy) . It worked for me (in GB ) :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598320
And about flashing the .img . you can flash the .img with omap4boot when the phone in fastboot mode ( this what you should do with ICS) .
Maybe change the twrp.img or cwm.img with the recovery you want to flash . Maybe I'm not sure .

I had the same problem.
The latest CWM recovery (6.0.1.9) bricked my phone upon restart.
I had to flash a new rom to get it working, tried to entrer CWM recovery and it bricked again.
Finally reverted to stock recovery, i'm thinking about flashing CMW 5 again.
Can someone tell me which is the latest 5 version?

I used that one to flash stock recovery, it works great.
But I think it includes CWM Recovery version 5.2.0.7, not 5.8.1.5.

I prefer non-touch, I find it more reliable.
If you have any problems with ClockworkMod 6.0.1.9
You can not install the CM10 or Jelly Bam
You have the bootloader locked.
I had the same problem and I unlocked the bootloader.
Now everything works perfectly.

Lolz.. flash a recovery simple. You are lucky that your phone atleast boots.
Dont use rom manager.. use terminal method.
rr0yy I have cwm flashed trough rom manager but many people does not recommend it, why? for me worked perfect
I heard that aroma recovery is better and you can edit files in recovery mode
what recovery do you have and it is safe to flash another recovery over cwm ?

Rom Manager used to be good.. but now it doesnt support our device.
(May be due to ICS and JB.. its been a long time i tried it on GB 'BUT' that is just a theory).
Me and many others have faced soft brick due to Rom Manager.
ClockworkMod stable ver5.0.2.x is good and recommended.
I use AmonRa 3.06 .
Yes.. you can flash any recovery over other.

what is your opinion abouth AROMA RECOVERY ???
There are many mod recoveries for P500. You have to try it yourself and see which one suits you best.
I felt.. CWM was incapable of wiping sdext and other things.
AmonRa works well.
> yep cwm is buggy, better use AmonRA or twrp now.

I am using ROM manager to flash the CWM 5.0.2.7 into my P500. I read some said got problem but I have been using this for months in flashing my JB 4.1.2 with no issue. I do have a backup copy of AmonRa 3.06.
If you do not know how to use the terminal, Rom manager CWM 5.0.2.7 might be a good option.

[Q] Help using CWM!

Hello,
today I tried to put CWM on my old Galaxy fit using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19204364 so then I could upgrade it and then install a ROM, I did the Odin Multidownloader process and it looked like it worked, but I wanted to test it and I didn't know how to use the CWM I just installed, so I went to ROM Manager and from there I tried to do the CWM Recovery option and when it started to reboot, it got like stuck in the Samsung logo and some kind of bootloop, the only thing I can do is press the home-volume up-power button so I can go to the Downloading... screen.
What can I do?
Does anyone know?
Thanks
I would recommend using download mode and Odin to flash a stock Rom. Once u do that and root ur phone again I suggest getting twrp. Seems to work better for me and easy to install.,

Which version of cwm did you install?
Installing Stock Roms
First, download the stock rom of your choice from samfirmware.com
Then download beni.ops and Odin Multidownloader
Remove the sim card and memory card of your phone, and put it in download mode
Next, run Odin, and connect your phone to your windows computer. Odin should respond as detected. Then, select “Ops” as beni.ops. (Doing this would disable all other fields except “One Package”)
After this, select your desired stock rom in “One Package”.
Do not alter any other option other than those mentioned, let them remain as they are.
Make sure that the color of “COM PORT MAPPING” is yellow, and then click “Start”.
Odin will start giving different responses, and the timer in Odin would also start…now all you have to do is wait till Odin completes flashing (You will get a message “Pass”, usually within 10 minutes)
Note: Do not disconnect you phone while the process is on, and till you get that “Pass” message.
After this, it is optional but advised that you reboot into recovery mode and wipe data, otherwise you *may* face bootloops.[/list]

Question 1: can you enter recovery!? By holding power + home buttons.
Question 2: are you sure you downloaded the correct ROM from the Samsung ROMs website (the correct ROM means the latest link from your carrier).
Edit: don't forget to take out the USB cable after the flashing is done.
Depending on your answer:
Try to redo the procedure without installing custom recovery (just flash thru download mode via Odin the downloaded ROM for your device) and see if it boots (first boot takes a long time so just wait.
If you're trying to install ONLY the cwm recovery be sure you are getting the one meant for beni (other will not work).

Here you can get stock ROM :

Be sure you follow the instructions in Odin.
Are you sure you can't get in recovery with home + power!? Seems strange. Try to reinstall CWM recovery thru download mode then try to get into recovery mode. You can find more than five Odin flash able recoveries in XDA for fit. Try all.

That's why seems odd he can't get in recovery mode. From what I understand:

Well now on your phone is 6045 recovery which works ONLY with Cyanogenmod 11. Go to yajnab's thread and download the alpha5. Put it on your SD and flash though recovery mode (recovery mode : keep power + middle button "home" pressed until you enter recovery mode). Wipe data, cache and dalvik (Dalvik from advanced). Press install from SD card and navigate to where you put the zip downloaded earlier. Select it.... Wait... Wait.... After that wait some more... Then you can enjoy CM11 aka KitKat.
If you want a different ROM (cm7 - cm10.2) flash an older custom recovery and do the same as above.
Flashing is simple and practice makes it perfect. After all you have a Fit for spare.
Remember that different ROMs might have different flashing instructions so ALWAYS read the OP in the ROMs thread.
Enjoy!

Have you installed your ROM using 6045 cwm recovery!? Or you installed the 6045 recovery after installing ROM!?
Yajnab says:
Code:
This Recovery will only support Ext4, Ext3 or Ext2 formatted Custom ROMs.
No RFS support has been included here.
So dont come with the issues when having any stock ROM or stock based RFS custom ROM installed.
The Device wont boot up
So, honestly I didn't tried to install other rom than cm11 on this recovery.
