Does ROM Manager work on gtab? - G Tablet General

Likethe title says does ROM manager work on tablets?

Yes, Rom Manager works. You have to have Version 3.0.0.7 or higher to load the Clockwork Mod. Used it yesterday as a matter of fact.

When you start using rom manager and use any other recovery but bekit 0.8 go over the development thread and look for nvflash because your gonna need it pretty soon. Rom Manager is NOT recommended for the Gtab. Using any other recovery but bekit 0.8 is a quick way to bork your tab.

You can do everything that is usefully about rom manager in clockwork recovery once you load in bekits version for gtab. You can partition and fix permissions from the advanced options in recovery mode.

Rom manager working yet
So there is an img posted for the viewsonic gtab at:
well, as noob, I can't post the link.
so google for:
my brain hurts rom manager
and then look down the page.
But no instructions on how to apply this img file.
I'm guessing via a manual install, etc...
However, is this compatabile with the clockworkmod recovery version ?
Anyone know if this img will no longer brick the gtab ?
and if I try it and brick the device can I nvflash recover ?
or does it boat anchor the device ?
It would be handy to do nandroid backups from the desktop, but not critical.
thanks

Best to just not try it...
AS far as I can tell, from reading posts, Rom Manager does one thing really well, softbricking G-Tablets.

[Q] CWM or ROM Manager

I was curious on everyone opinion on CWM from imnuts versus Rom Manager. And which one are you using?
ROM manager does NOT work for our beloved Charge. Don't waste your money. So that means CWM is our only choice
Not according to Koush and on his website ClockWorkMod.com
I just downloaded the recovery for our phone from his website.
Did they just recently add support? I haven't heard any news about this.
This is the page to all of their recoveries I'm going to flash it. The charge recovery is toward the bottom of the list.
I know cwm works on the charge but its very limited

that's the charge if you want to download it, i just copied the link location for your convenience. I'm not going to bother, there's no reason for me to. Everything is working fine, I won't **** with the balance.
Rom manager CWM doesn't install on Gummycharged GBE.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
I think imnuts' version of CWM allows backup and restore, the current koush version messes up the phone if you try
Has anybody tried this yet? I just tried will not install.. gummycharge 2. oh

I use imnuts CWM just because it's confirmed working.

I can verify that the imnuts version works great.
I did a backup with it and the very next day my phone got all messed up. I figured that was as good a time as any to try the recovery option so I restored the BU I had made the day before.
As soon as the restore was complete, the phone worked perfectly again and has ever since.
~John
The version from Koush is a fake-flash recovery that will only work with a patched kernel that is using stock recovery that will accept zip files signed with test keys. You can "flash" it all day and it will never do anything with giving you CWM to use on your phone. All it is doing if you "flash" from within ROM Manager is downloading a file named update.zip to your sdcard.
CWM 4.x is working well supporting ep1q. Rom installs and backup/restore are verified working. (the only hangout is lagfix / ext4; not sure what the issue is there. ) - Dan

So does that mean we can use Rom manager now?

[Q] rom manager

ok so i am planning to use the nvflash to flash clockworkmod and then cyanogen after all that can i overwrite the recovery with the 1 in rom manager because rom manger is easier to operate then to boot in to recovery and so on so is the rommanager recovery image stable and safe to use because ive been hearing that its bad and its temporary.
Never use rom manager on the g2x. Seriously, just don't do it. You'll get aids.

A lot of people will tell you nothing is wrong with it. The thing is it doesn't actually use the real recovery partition on any Tegra device. The recovery partition can only be written by NVFlash. Rom Manager flashes a fake (but mostly working) CWM to another partition. Issues can rise up if you have incompatible versions of CWM on each; you wont be able to use backups properly and other issues can pop up. If something happens to you Rom the Rom Manager flashed recovery goes with it. I just generally prefer to avoid Rom Manager on Tegra devices entirely.

The cwm issue

OK, so I installed the latest ROM manager after rooting my Xoom a few weeks ago and am not understanding what I need to do to have a good backup alternative. I was looking at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358524 but ROM manager doesn't allow backup to external SD card, flashing a different recovery, nor is there an option for 3.2.0. Any help for an app on my tablet similar to ROM manager would be greatly appreciated.

rom manager isn't to great on the xoom, get that latest rogue recovery.
Or just flash solarn's CWM recovery version 3.2.0.0. R4c image file through fastboot and just forget about Rom Manager. It's more trouble than it's worth, IMHO. You can just download QuickBoot from the market if you want to boot into recovery easier, or use Tiamat boot options through the power button if you flash the Moray Rom.

Yeah, I didn't even realize that after I flashed solarnz's image, that it was still there. I just powered on my xoom and tried entering recovery with vol buttons and saw the 3.2.0.0 R4c recovery and wanted to post back my oversight. You guys were too quick for me and have the same perfect solution here. Thanks for your patience everyone!
Cheers!

Clockworkmod not working? Help

OK I got a new G2X after the charger port in my old one from T-mobile. I root it with superclick one then download clockwork from the marketplace. I try to boot into recovery and then the phone hangs. When he does not hang it says install of update fails and wont let me flash my rom. Did clock work change or am I doing doing something wrong?

That one from the market is a no go for this phone. That recovery (I assume via ROM Manager) simply not gonna stick.
Go to this thread and flash the recovery using Nvflash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
This question should go to the G2X Q&A section, though.
Good luck!

Abandonware??? What gives you that idea??
In the play store ROM Manager was updated the 16th of this month, and if CWM was also abandonware then no newer devices would have been getting CWM on it.
Is that a legit question or are you trolling? I find it hard to believe someone would be calling it that.

First, the best way to get CMW of any version is by using the NV Flash ( Search that up ). Then you can boot into recovery by pushing the power button (the one on top), and the volume down button ( Its on the right side). It should boot into recovery perfectly after you do this. Tell us if it works!

Agree, Best way to flash recovery is Thru NV flash. Its a little complicated but ones you get the hang of it, its easy than you though
ROM manger can flash recovery but not always does a full flash, so best way is NVflash.

Manual flashing

Question please.
I am looking to root and flash my tf101. I have been doing a lot of reading /searching but I am still curious.
Are you not simply able to nvflash cwm then use cwn to install su.zip as well as whatever rom you like?
My preference is to avoid any toolkit as much as possible [personal preference].
If i missed something please let me know.

You need to download easy flash software and universal naked driver to use nvflash... once you have them rooting and installing CWM is just few mouse clicks away.... once you have cwm you can install any tf101 ROM you want... just remember do not install cwm 5.x.x.x as it reads only internal memory n not external MMC.. also please back up your existing OS with "back and recovery" option which is available in CWM... good luck

I did as you instructed above, it seemed to work fine.
Loaded the naked drivers [0.7] and ran easy flash from a windowx xp machine. tried to load TWRP 2.2.1. Easyflasher says it flashed, the screen says the update was successful, but it basically just seems to have corrupted the recovery [android with red exclamation mark above].
I have a B60 TF101, running 9.2.1.27, unrooted ATM.
Am I missing something as to why this did not work?

Android with red ! is your stock recovery. Try flashing TWRP via Goo Manager.
Get it from Play Store, open Goo manager, Menu (3 dots) and chose Install "OpenRecoveryScript"

Went to a newer Windows 7 based machine, worked perfectly. Great tool. Thanks for the heads up.
