Manual flashing - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Question please.
I am looking to root and flash my tf101. I have been doing a lot of reading /searching but I am still curious.
Are you not simply able to nvflash cwm then use cwn to install su.zip as well as whatever rom you like?
My preference is to avoid any toolkit as much as possible [personal preference].
If i missed something please let me know.

You need to download easy flash software and universal naked driver to use nvflash... once you have them rooting and installing CWM is just few mouse clicks away.... once you have cwm you can install any tf101 ROM you want... just remember do not install cwm 5.x.x.x as it reads only internal memory n not external MMC.. also please back up your existing OS with "back and recovery" option which is available in CWM... good luck

I did as you instructed above, it seemed to work fine.
Loaded the naked drivers [0.7] and ran easy flash from a windowx xp machine. tried to load TWRP 2.2.1. Easyflasher says it flashed, the screen says the update was successful, but it basically just seems to have corrupted the recovery [android with red exclamation mark above].
I have a B60 TF101, running 9.2.1.27, unrooted ATM.
Am I missing something as to why this did not work?

Android with red ! is your stock recovery. Try flashing TWRP via Goo Manager.
Get it from Play Store, open Goo manager, Menu (3 dots) and chose Install "OpenRecoveryScript"

SOLVED.
Problem was the PC I was trying to flash with.
Went to a newer Windows 7 based machine, worked perfectly. Great tool. Thanks for the heads up.

CWM not working on tf101 9.2.1.11 + 9.2.1.17

Never been able to install CWM since upgraded my tf101 B50 to ICS. It worked before ICS.
I am now using 9.2.1.17 and rooted using PrimeTime. I had installed RecoveryInstaller in 9.2.1.11 and it did not worked. Now in 9.2.1.17 I tried installing RecoveryInstaller again and it said 'App installed.' When I go to recovery using vol- + power then vol+, I got a yellow android laying down with a red traingle (with exclamation) on top of it. I got the same thing using 9.2.1.11.
Any suggestion much appreciated. Thanks.
After yo have install the RecoveryInstaller app, did you open the app and flash CWM recovery?
After installation, I did not open. I selected done and power off to go to recovery.
I am not sure what is meant by 'did you open the app and flash CWM recovery?'
I thought CWM is already installed after installation. This worked before ICS.
What is meant by flash CWM recovery? Thanks.

The RecoveryInstaller app help to install CWM recovery.
After you are done with installing the RecoveryInstaller, go to the app drawer and find the app, click on it to open. you should now see a button that say "Flash Recovery" or something similar. Click on it to install CWM recovery.
Your TF should reboot and you'll see the blue progress bar.
Many thanks, I though its a one click installer!
Edit: Great IT WORKED!

Need help fixing my tablet

I haven't been using my tablet in a long time until recently, so let me try to explain what I did in the best way possible.
Back when Rom Manager started adding Clockwork Mod to download through the app, I downloaded it but already had someone else's version of Clockwork Mod on my device. My device then started booting straight into Clockwork Mod and the only way to get into android was to cold boot linux.
I did a restore of android on the device and this did not fix the problem.
How can I go about fixing my device? Thanks. Hopefully description was enough.
Install a different version of CWM the one from rom manager is bugged

Problems flashing custom recovery

I have a strange problem. A while ago I successfully unlocked my infinity. That was before the jb update. I also successfully flashed custom recoveries and several roms. Didn't ran into any problems. When the official jb update came out, I restored original recovery and flashed a stock ics Rom, and after that successfully applied the jb update. The second update .30 also went smooth. I used the update file from Asus servers. Now I want to flash a custom recovery again in order to flash cleanrom. In adb I see my device and I can reboot with fastboot and stuff. So I think my drivers are ok. However as soon as I start to flash recovery.img it just says sending recovery and that's it. It just hangs there. Nothing happens. I tried everything, from changing usb ports and uninstalling drivers... It just can't send the recovery img. I use Scott's script to flash the recovery.blob. any ideas?

I can't use it because it needs root, and as long as I don't have a custom recovery I'm unable to root my stock jellybean Rom. Or is there already another way to root?

Are you saying you can not get TWRP or CWM installed ? or are you saying you do have one installed but no root ?
If it is the latter then can't you just flash a custom rom that has root built in ( like Baked ) then go back to twrp and now with root you can wipe and flash stock. ? I am sorry if I am miss understanding your question. But at least you get a free 'bump'

Thats correct, i am trying to get custom recovery, after that root is no problem.
Edit: i just installed a clean windows 8 installation. So no old drivers left behind or other weird stuff. I put my transformer in fastboot mode, driver is automatically installed, i see it under device manager. Stillno luck.... it hangs saying sending recovery.... no error messages. My previous attempt was under win7.

Glenner, did you make sure you have the img file in the same folder as you fastboot/adb command files?
If it says "sending recovery", I'd assume that it found the local file.
I don't use Windows, but I always read about driver issues in Windows. Maybe the auto-installed driver is wrong? Does "fastboot devices" return question marks or nothing?
i'm happy to report that finally it worked! seemed something strange with drivers/USB ports after all. Despite i already changed USB ports under my win 7 installation, i tried it again under win8, and suddenly it worked. I didn't reinstall the drivers or something, all went automatically. So the strange issues are driver issues for sure. Anyway, currently happy running cleanrom 2.3
thanks for all your suggestions and thinking along.....

Can't get root working.

Usually am pretty good at this stuff but just got this device and can't figure out what I'm missing.
The drivers seem to be working okay, the bootloader says its unlocked, I am on stock JB which I am going to the right forums for.. Just can't get into recovery. I use power and down volume and then up volume and I just get the error Android. Let me know if anyone has suggestions or what I am missing please.
First off you should have posted this in the Q&A section, not Development.
Anyway, have you flashed any recovery? Or have you just unlocked the device?
Look here for installing recovery
Hope that helps :fingers-crossed:
What recovery did you install? Do you have a custom recovery? The native recovery expects its files in a specific directory and will throw an error ("dead Andy") if there are none there. Can you get the 70 to connect by USB, and detected?
In order to flash anything, you must install a custom recovery. You cannot use the stock recovery as it will only flash stock roms. You can either use ClockworkMod or TWRP. To flash it onto your tf700 you must use fastboot which is not hard if you find a detailed guide.

I had CWM installed but just installed twrp instead to see if that helped but I cannot get into recovery. I am doing the volume down and power and get a screen with 4 images in the center and then it goes to dead android.

Apparently you never installed a custom recovery. How did you try to install it? With fastboot?

Yes I used Scott's tf700t recovery install tool.
Moved to correct board ..
Are you actually unlocked? You are still on the stock recovery if you see a dead android.
Try this if you are unlocked

Hi,
This happened to me too, I'm assuming that you are trying to do the process manually or with a 1-click utility?
For me it worked with the 1-click utility that I found in the droidrzr forum's.

CWM Recovery
These are the 2 utilities,
The first one is only to install CWM
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...-twrp-recovery-1-click-ver3-updated-52913-v5/
This worked perfect for me after failing with other methods.
This other utility is the "Matt Utility" you should download it, it's a big file (610 mbytes) but it's good to have it in your computer just in case.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307439
Let me know how that went.
Did I help? just hit thanks
