WIFI problems after ROM update on ATT tilt
After installing the official ATT ROM update (1.62.502.0) on my ATT tilt I have
wifi problems. This was not present before installing the ROM update.
I can connect just fine to all access points with the comm mananger. However, when I try
to browse the internet, I get the message "Page cannot be found. Please check spelling and
try again". I get this message with all with web sites.
I know there's something wrong because this happens even on unsecured networks like airports,
coffee shops etc. Other programs needing internet acces don't work either (like the
weather update, Quick GPS etc)
Before you ask ... Yes, I have searched extensively before posting.
Okay, now that that's out of the way...
I noticied that others have experienced the same problem and I did found several suggestions
however none of these work . This is what I have tried until now:
- hard reset (1234) and soft reset
- flashed the ROM again
- flashed other roms
- flashed an other radio sign
- deleted the temporary internet files
- changed the browser settings
- disable / able proxy settings
- run again welcome.exe in the /windows directory
- refresch in PIE
- restored a sprite backup
Here are some (but not all) of the URL's where I found these 'solutions':

None of all this worked ...
I have been searching for days (and nights) now ... It's driving me crazy ...
especially beacuse the new ROM should provide 'more stability' accordingly to the HTC website ...
For me this new ROM only caused problems .....
Please help me.
Thank you, yours,
Frank
2nded for some interest... for what it's worth I'm runnin dutty's 4/29 rom. tried a couple radios no solution.
the only prob i have is that i cant connect to my homes wifi router..i can connect to any other wifi router...it used to work with previous rom but all the lastest roms i cant get it to browse the internet

weird.. I was in a spot where I had zero service and I connected to my wifi and it worked and it's been working ever since.
Something similar happened to me while trying ROMs, the 1.65.XX.XX radios do not work well with my WiFi router, it connects and gets an IP but does not transfer packets, after 2 minutes or so of trying you can access a page, but then it fails again, etc
This happens with 1.65.14.06 and 1.65.20.29 radios.
I'm running 1.65.16.25 radio now and it works well, GPS fix is fast, WiFi connection works, 3G and HSDPA work,
You guys might need to put the power mode of the wifi to performance. This is under settings.

Yes I know there's that setting. But I tested 1.65 radios while seated at 10 feet from my WiFi router and in direct line of sight. Radio 1.58.26.20 has very fast GPS fix, and connects perfectly to my router.
Radio 1.65.14.06 does not work well in any of those cases. Even if increasing the power of the WiFi solved the problem, it's much convenient to just flash another radio.
hey folks, i got massive wifi connectivity problems, but only with a special wifi at college.
it's a 802.1x wifi, with EAP (PEAP) and MSCHAPV2.
i configured it correctly (for sure), as i can connect to it manually. but it is not stable, though i got full signal strength. it keeps on dropping after a few minutes with the phone sleeping... when i turn it back on i have to reconnect manually, sometimes i have to deactivate/activate wifi, sometimes it is enough just to connect manually again.
i tried some roms and kernels already, with no effect (arhd 3.1.1, insertcoin from 2.2.1 up to 2.4.3-2 and 2.2.5SSE; kernels were faux 0.1.0 - 0.1.4, bricked 0.2 - 0.4). also stock rom doesn't fix the problem.
i think it's htc based.. somebody else got this problem? is there a workaround availible?
Nobody? Bump...

Hi,
I think it's HTC based too... I've seen this problem with my HD2 and now the Sensation (definitely hoped it was only an HD2 problem but here I am again, looking for a solution).
The symptoms are that you see the wifi connected with, say, full signal, but when you try to open Google Talk or the browser or anything, no data can be reached. This happens particularly when you switch from one AP to another (e.g. walk across compass) or if you leave the network area and then come back.
Do we have similar ones? My school has a registered-MAC network that also doesn't work well with the phone, so I believe it's more to do with how the network infrastructure is set up. However, my friends with non-HTC devices do not report such problems. It's also possible that my similar program installs on both phones do some conflicting with networking, but it's doubtful...
Does anyone have similar experiences?
Edit: It'd almost be preferable for my phone to just drop wifi entirely when the connection fails, since it believes it otherwise has a connection, but everything time-out-s. Having it switch to 3g when it stops working would be preferable to having no networking and no push email or messages...
You can try going into wifi advanced settings and setting the wifi sleep policy to "never", and see if it that fixes it. My high school uses the same 802.1x EAP/MSCHAPv2 security and I also have issues with it, but I think there it's because of such a dense network of access points (there's an access point in EVERY room) it's more interference problems and the phone jumping from AP to AP rather than issues with the phone itself. Download wifi analyzer from the market and check the different access points and if their channels are overlapping and compare their signal levels. If the signal levels are close, the phone might be jumping from AP to AP like mine does.
Dropping WiFi
May not apply to you. But in my case, when I have the WiFi Calling App turned on, I will lose connection to my Home WiFi which is password protected. And when I try to re-connect I have to enter the password again. With out WiFi Calling enabled, I stay connected till I disconnect. Not sure if this would act the same with a different router or without password protection, and since I have a good signal at my house I haven't checked all possibilities.

Thanks for your reply!
I've never set wifi sleep policy to anything but "never," and I've toggled between "Best Wifi Performance" and the alternative of having that disabled.
I've hit in *#*#4636*#*# and looked at the wifi state. It continues to say it's connected with COMPLETED Supplicant State and a valid IP address. Ping test, of course, fails, when this happens.
This happens for me both with mac-registered (insecure) networks and 802.1x networks on campus, but I've found that wifi is rock stable on most home networks, for example...

It might just have to do with the access point interference. I know that my phone has trouble handling the access point switching, regardless of the phone or ROM. My old 3g slide did the same thing. If it only happens on 802.1x networks and it happens on every ROM (which I'm 90% sure it does) then it's probably not something you can change.

I understand that, but the part that gets me is that my roommate's Galaxy S has no such problems.
I've tried many different ROMs when I was on the HD2; I'm hoping I won't have to go through that again!
Oh, then maybe it is a phone issue. I always thought it was just android but I've always used HTC devices. I don't know exactly how 802.1x encryption works, but if it's on a hardware level like some encryption algorithms then it could be HTC specific.
It's definitely a HTC problem. Friend of mine doesn't have such problems as well, he has a SGS2. Everything is configured like it should be, WiFi drop on "never", as already witten in the first post.

Same problem. Connecting at college over EAP with PAP and TTLS. Won't reconnect without upening credential dialong and inputting password
i'm trying to get it fixed by posting some logs to show-p1984, kernel developer of bricked. he is also german, which makes it easier to talk about this kind of 'special' problem for me i will keep this thread updated if there is any solution availible.

That sounds great! Let me know if I can contribute as well (logs? something else?).
I was worried it has something to do with the custom kernels we're all using (i.e. power modes for the wifi and such, but I did edit an HD2 kernel to turn that off and it didn't work). Since show-p1984 is thinking about this now, I'm sure he knows what's up with everything kernel=related to wifi...
When I have time, I'll definitely try a stock ROM again to see how it goes, since there aren't as many complaints about this problem as I'd expect there to be (i.e. ... maybe only us custom ROM users may have this problem with certain wifi infrastructures)...
Hello!
Not sure if anybody's still interested in this problem, but I tried the EU stock rom and it didn't change matters.
Basically, moving around campus makes my phone drop the internet connection on wifi, but not the wifi connection itself. Again, this doesn't happen on Samsung phones, and cycling the wifi fixes this problem.
See attachments for what shows up; it looks like after cycling I get a new lease and it works again.
So do people think the latest bricked kernel fixes this issue?
Unfortunately it doesn't. But at least we have a kernel dev who is aware of this problem. I got no doubt that it'll be fixed one day ;-)

Still no change... As it's a driver of the wifi module, maybe it'll never be fixed at all. Anyways I hope, that maybe with the ICS update a change will come. Also there is show, who is aware of it.

Unfortunately - no
I'm running InsertCoin 4.4.6 based on 3.25.xxx leak with ICS. It's still not working... Maybe with the final release from HTC.
For a month or so I've been having wifi problems with my phone.
It's one you often see discussed:
either A)
wifi scans, picks up presence of network [with excellent signal strength] then, on click, doesn't try to connect just changes to say out of range.
Alternatively B), it simply doesn't see the network at all despite me being 2 feet from the router.
This happens with my home router [we have two, neither work] and with what seems like every other router too.
I am currently running the 6.1.1 version of ARHD [with android 4.0.3].
I can provide any information that might help, I'm not at all bad with this sort of stuff normally, although not collosally experienced with android.
Thank you for your time.
PS. Steps already tried to fix problem:
Power cycling router, installing different ROMs,scripted wifi fix for 6.1.1, changing wifi channels, switching router to just b and/or g, wifi fixer app, removing authentication, using different router, changed radio, changed kernel, and possibly more.
Please any advice would be fantastic, I struggle to use this phone without wifi.
Try the wifi with your sim in a differnet phone - when that works choose a different rom make sure you go back to a stock RUU before the new rom
I've never been able to connect to a wifi network on my sensation. I've tried it with the stock 2.3.4 ROM, and with all of the ARHD ROMS.
I can see wifi networks, and enter the network password, but it'll never connect.
So I'd be interested in any solution for this problem also.
Have you tried on different routers? I can only assume the routers channel is set to one that the device won't work on? Have you changed your router settings before
Sorry my bad only read half,

OK what is your devices mac address showing up as? Maybe it's the same as another device on your network?
Have you done a full wipe of your device?
Does your bluetooth work? (same antenna as wifi)
Has it ever worked?
Have you tried disabling all your routers security?

try this:
mediafire.com/?bp9pqd9n77f63oc
I am S-Off, and rooted
I had this problem with the ICS which I flashed after S-Off, so I rooted and flashed eleganza, SAME PROBLEM?!
Here's what happens-
WiFi connects with Router and shows correct strength, connects and downloads or surfs web or whatever then just stops dead! The device obviously thinks its connected to Wifi as it doesnt let the mobile signal kick in. If I disable WiFi it then connects to mobile network. If I reconnect to Wifi it works for a bit then disconnects as before.
This is driving me insane! any suggestions?
Tried changing Router channel and security encryption.
i never had the same problem, but the most common solution when wifi is not working on ICS is that you should do a complete wipe, dalvik and cache and format all partitions except SD-card.
that usualy helps, let me know if it worked for you...
Did a superwipe before I Flashed the custom Rom, which should have done all that I think, cheers for the reply
Do you have installed custom kernel, I seem have bit problem with my signal when using faux123 beta kernel. So my suggestion is try install and using other's kernel like the final version faux123, sebastianFM or stock kernel. If you using cpu control application try not to set the lowest to low.
On the Advanced Wi-Fi try to set "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to Always.
If you have set "wifi.supplicant_scan_interval" on build.prop try to decreased it.
I am using sebastianFM , "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep"is already set to Always
Now tried new rom and new kernel and have now supercid. Any ideas?
Search for WiFix in this forum, it's an app, it might help ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445766
I had a similar problem with all the Elegancia versions that I tried (3.4.1 and 3.5.0).
It recognised my neighbours' routers by not mine, I did not have wifi signal at all.
No problem with any other ICS rom such as ARHD, InsertCoin and CoreDroid.
My router is the O2 Wireless Box (which is actually Thomson ST780). If yours is the same there might be compatibility issues between Elegancia and this specific router.
I had a similar problem with ARHD few months ago... Did a superwipe, flashed the same rom again, flashed radio other than was used in a rom and didn't do any backup restore... I think some wifi application messed with crucial wifi settings but I flashed other radio because I wanted to find solution faster... So don't know exactly what helped..
I've always had this issue with ARHD since ICS leaked. I could always get connected to other WiFi connections, but not my own at home which uses WPA2. The phone does actually show full WiFi signal and thinks it's connected, but can't really get out to the internet.
I could get it to work by either a) flashing another ROM that worked for me like InsertCoin then flashing ARHD directly over it without a wipe, or b) just wiping and going with InsertCoin from the beginning haha.
I used mostly IC anyway during Gingerbread times, so it wasn't a big deal for me to stick with IC for ICS. But I still wonder what causes this issue. I read in the ARHD thread that there are WiFi-related files that can be replaced to make things work, but I figured that would eventually get annoying for me since I flash often.
I found the same problem with two different Android phones after rooting.
Connects, works for a short while then no traffic gets through. Disconnect, then reconnect usually works for a few seconds more?
My solution was to reconfigure the router...it had maximum speed settings that allows 75, 150, 300. When I set it down to 75 it started working reliably.
Same as above...I was using WPA2 and it only affected my home router.
Not sure if same issue, but worth a try!

Hi,
I'm on 11-20140804-SNAPSHOT-M9-ville, official (HBoot 2.15), Radio 1.35a.32.45.27
I have a strange problem with my WiFi. I can't really tell what details are important, so I'm gonna give you guys the full story.
After rebooting, everything works fine and the phone instantly connects to my WPA2 PSK secured WiFi at home. When I'm at university during the day, I'm connected to another WPA2 WiFi (maybe some of you have heard about "eduroam", TTLS/PAP authentification), which also works fine. However, when I get home in the evening, my phone won't connect to my personal WiFi at home any more. I see the SSID, but when I try to connect, it says "Connecting..." for a milisecond, then just jumps back to showing me it's a WPA2 secured WiFi without having done anything. I get no error message or anything, it just doesn't connect and doesn't even seem to really try to connect.
When I reboot the phone it instantly works again without a problem.
Any ideas? Are there error logs for failed WiFi connection attempts anywhere for further analysing the problem? Any hint is appreciated!

Hi,
I had exactly the same problems with m8. I have a Virgin Superhub 2 at home which broadcasts on 2.4 and 5 Ghz. After disabling one of these frequencies, the behaviour briefly changed. Then went back to not working. With eduroam all worked nicely.
I read somewhere that I should activate the "Scan always available" setting. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to try that because I was so fed up with
- the significantly lower sound on CM (is that something you experience with radio 1.35a?)
- mobile signal drops
that I wen back to Maximus 10 where I have no problems at all.
I had radio 1.15 and 2.15 HBOOT when I had those problems. Now I'm on also 1.35 with Maximus 10 and problem free but would like to return to CM if the low sound problem and the WiFi problem could be sorted out.
Here's an interesting little detail I noticed: When I stand right next to my router (full WiFi signal strength) and click on my WiFi and choose connect, the signal strength drops down to one bar immediately. Also, the eduroam network changes from "not in range" to "disabled".
Playing around with the WiFi options didn't help.
edit:
What exactly do you mean by lower sound? That the phone's maximum sound volume is lower than normal? That's something I experienced on my old htc desire, but not with my htc one s. Also mobile signal seems to be stable, no signal drops. The only thing I found curious is that with activated mobile internet, it often changes between 3G, H and H+, but judging from google search results that seems to be normal or not connected to the custom rom.
went through the CM bugtracker, apparently it's a known issue without a solution
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-3923 if you want to know more
One last question, maybe someone here can answer it: As far as I understand the issue, it's a problem with an old WiFi driver and the corresponding kernel modules.
Wouldn't this issue then be present in all ROMs which don't use the stock kernel? Or did I misunderstand something?

Same problem here with Miuri. Tries to connect and then gives up.
The problem has been resolved by the CM11 devs. I'm running nightly 20140819 and it's working fine now for me. :good:
