[Q] Is the deathgrip still going on? - HTC Sensation

I saw mixed opinions. Some say there's no deathgrip, some say it's very bad.
I'm looking forward on buying a Sensation XE, and i want to know if the issues are gone with the latest production phones, like Apple did on the iPhone 4 (apply a protective coating onto the antenna)
And since my contract with vodafone just ended, i can buy phones at very low prices. So i want to make the right decision. If the Sensation still has this issue, i'm getting the Sensation XL.
Thanks,
Andrei

It's still have death grip issue in Thailand for both Sensation & Sensation XE.As far as I know it's rarely occur on XE and even it occur on your phone HTC customer service will offer you a new back cover for this issue.

Got the US T-Mobile version here and I still have the death grip for wifi. I just installed an new router wireless N hoping it would stronger and won't drop the signal if I hold it sideways, it still does.
Not that bad though, you can always go into wifi settings and turn on more powerful wifi, but the battery takes a hit with that.

So, even the latest phones have this problem?
I'm very undecided...

I have an HTC Sensation with T-Mobile USA and I've never had any death grip problem.

Fun while it lasted

Which wasn't long.
For the life of me I cannot get this phone to stay connected to 4g. I really don't want to have connection issues show up after my 30 day exchange.
Converted back to stock and exchanging for a Nexus.
Shame really, this phone is better than the Nexus, but only when it's working.

I'm going to hate myself for actually replying to this, but here goes...
so you exchanged a phone that was having trouble connecting to 4G with a phone that doesn't even have 4G? OK, have fun with that...
ever considered having the phone exchanged with another mt4g and having them set it up there?

just making sure by having problems staying connected to 4g do you mean keeping "H" service and it drops to "3G"

Did you ever consider that your phone could be defective? Try out another one before just giving up
At least you experienced 4G. I don't get 4G where I'm at. I'm currently at school and I don't even get 3G because I'm at bumblefuck.
1) so having a phone that cant connect past edge is somehow better than one that can because it says it can do 4g?
2) it wont stay on wcdma.
3) they were sold out of nexus s so I exchanged for a white mt4g and will give this one a go. If it doesnt play ball, its my last one. Im not going to join the ranks of "oh yeah im on my fifth mytouch 4g.."

To those of you who had to root using gfree, if you have trouble with 4g similar to what I've detailed, you might have a bad radio.
After exchange, with new white mytouch, I didn't need to use gfree. S=off stuck using root.sh and my antenna is running 4g strong.

Well I suppose you are on to something. The nexus S is a flawless phone, no bugs...Only the MT4G needs to be exchanged, there hasnt been other bugs found in other phones.(Sarcasm...)

When I'm back at home (philly), I usually get good connection. Around 4 Mbps. I just don't think that's a 4g speed. And I can't do anything about the speed when I'm at school.

Well, the second MyTouch 4g isn't lasting long. Now, when I get a lot of SMS at the same time as using Pandora, the phone restarts.
Also, light is leaking out of the bottom buttons. Pretty badly to the point where I can almost see the LED behind the buttons and the bottom left of the screen is glowing even though I have a TPU case.
The 4G problem still exists. I'm guessing it's a tower problem near my campus because it's always as soon as I get to school that the 4G just dies. So I might just leave T-Mobile.
When I had a MyTouch 3G, my connection was always strong. Sure it wasn't 4G, but I literally always had 3G in San Diego no matter where I went. I wouldn't lose 3G unless I started driving to Sacramento and once I got a hundred miles north of Los Angeles, it would drop to Edge. But in San Diego, Los Angeles, a few miles out of each city, Sacramento, Davis, Berkeley, San Fransisco, with the MyTouch 3G I always had 3G.
With this phone, I can't even be in my girlfriend's apartment (in the middle of San Diego) without losing 4G or at school.
The h you see in your status bar isn't always 4g sometimes its hdpsa or 3.5g.and as long as you see a 3 there is still a chance its 4g the only way to tell if your I'm 4g is to run a speed test.so as long as you still see 3g there is no need to complain

Dude, did you read my post?
I'm not getting data! I don't care about the letter. It could be a 3, 3g, xyz or a smiley face for all I care. The problem is I have four full bars and the H symbol but data isn't working. It won't switch to edge unless I go into settings and change it to GSM only.
This is the second mytouch 4g doing this to me. It doesn't matter if I'm rooted or running custom or vanilla sense. It still has spotty data.

Go get a nexus s and gtfo. You clearly hate your mt4g anyway, and you seem dead set on a nexus s. Also, since you dont want to be in the ranks where youre on your 5th mytouch 4g, go join the nexus s side.

I am having the exact same issue with my MT4G. It'll show a data connection (E or H) and a strong signal, but it will do absolutely nothing. Nothing that relies on data works. And yes, I've already gotten a new SIM card, didn't fix the issue.
It goes back and forth between showing a strong connection to "limited service" and back.
This phone is going back, hopefully my replacement MT4G has the good screen and data that actually works.

[Q] Should I get the Sensation?

I'm switching over from At&t to T-Mobile by the end of September and I was wondering if I should get the Sensation 4g. Do you think that HTC will have (or will soon have) fixed all of the issues like Screen unresponsiveness, Not enough RAM, death grip, software issues, etc? Or will they ignore them?
Are there any other issues with the phone that I haven't listed?
Also, how is the Camera and the GPS? (Being a post user of the Vibrant's terrible GPS)
Should I go for a different phone or get the Sensation?
The camera and gps are exceptional on the sensation, like everything else. Ram will stay the same but tocuh screen issue fix (a minor nuisance) and other software performance improvements are either already available in modded roms or will be as soon as "s-off" update is released by HTC.
its an awesome phone and you'll love it for sure.
One thing I would look into more at this point it, AT&T is lookin to buy out T-Mo? I read that in the news a bunch of times, dont know how that will effect everything. Perhaps you could wait and see the carrier dynamics.
Thanks! When is the s-off update supposed to hit? And I know that At&t is buying out T-Mobile but I'm hoping I'll be able to keep the cheaper plan.
If you want a strictly touch screen service on the T-Mobile network then yes I suggest you get this device problems and all you'll still probably love it especially if you compare it to other devices.
If you wan't a physical keyboard, trackpad, and the ability to take advantage of T-Mobile's 42 Mbps speeds you should look into getting the mytouch slide 4g.... Pretty much same specs but suppose to have a better camera.... It's available for sale on the 27th

the s-off is officially announced by HTC by no time frame give.. most people assume sometime in august but its just a guess.
This is the best 4G device TMob USA has in my opinion!

Is this really a flawless mobile phone?

HHello Everybody
I was looking at HTC Inspire 4G since some time.
The HTC Inspire 4G is a very new and nice mobile phone on paper as per it's specification.
In spite of that, i can see it being listed in eBay easily for around 200$ USD often.
I can't find even a HTC Desire mobile phone for around 200 $ USD.
HTC Desire S and HTC Increble 4G, both has nearly similar specifications.
In-spite of that HTC Desire S costs way too more than HTC Inspire 4G.
Has HTC Inspire 4G any other major flaws than paltry battery life?
Yea the speaker phone sucks BAD!
You do know that the inspire A9192 is the same phone as the desire HD A9191 except for the radio. It uses 850/1900 for the high speed data (umts/hspa/wcdma or whatever you want to call it). Not sure what your carrier uses but you may want the A9191 instead as that is a european/asian phone with different bands.
Same complaints as every other phone. Sound, gps, battery complaints. The battery is expected. Sound could be better for the media end but functions correctly. The gps may be more of a dropping it, incorrectly configuring it with custom ROMS, or just incorrect use (like trying to use it inside). It is a fundamentally sound phone though. One of the best I have ever used. I have had 0 issues. I have the Telus DHD which is identical to the inspire but sold in canada.

Petition Against Signal issues With Vodafone

Hey guys i need your help.. Are any of you suffering terrible signal with vodafone on your sensation ??
If so please go to this http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/HTC-Sensation/No-signal-on-HTC-sensation/td-p/745817/page/4 and tell them your FW Version / Build No. Software version ect.
Apparently if it gets enough interest to be ruled out as not being a hardware / software issue, vodafone will 'look in to it' and try to get it fixed.
It is a well known fact that the issue lies with the vodafone signal and not the device and now the official ICS is out - and not fixed the problem - they can sort out their ****ty signal they are forcing on us.
It will only take a moment and it could get some proper results I think a group of 10 - 15 minimum will be a good enough case for investigation.
Thanks.
c'mon guys ! 60 views and not one reply ??
Isnt this a serious issue for most vodafone users ?
I claimed Vodafone had told me they were due to upgrade in m area when I took out my contract but a year later hadn't. I complained again and a third time. I said I wanted them to cancel my contract with no charge as I felt they had lied to me twice and they did, 9 months early! Now with 3 and never not had HSDPA anywhere...! Ditch Voda, they WILL cancel contracts if you have complained in the past & they've not acted on your issue.

I left vodafone 3 years ago because of ****ty signals, you should think about doing the same. good luck in your quest......
I'm on Vodafone and have no issues with my Sensation or my Galaxy Nexus in built up areas. OK, it can be flakey in patches but not enough to bother me really
im an aussie user, and have JUST cancelled with vodafone because of of their reception. seems their issues are around abroad.. and they've bought out 3 over here, so they now use the same towers
was only 3 months into my contract, but service was appalling. now i have to give my htc sensation back and move to another carrier which offers the SGS2 i would rather the sensation over the SGS2 anyday.. but i just CAN'T live with voda.
We suffer in the states as well
HTC Sensation Virtuous 4.0 ICS goodness.
If you think Vodafone signal is bad in the North West you should try Orange
I have a sensation on Orange and I struggle to get a 3G signal anywhere but my house yet my TYTN2 on Voda gets data no problem
vodafone coverage is excellent in my house and my area, I have 2 vodafone lines, One with the Sensation another with the Galaxy S
the Galaxy S is full bars all the time (2g) even in my house,, 3g signal is not so good.
But with the sensation im struggling to even get a semi decent 2g signal anywhere not just my house.
This is my 2nd sensation so i know the handset is NOT faulty. I posted on vodafone forums that i can use any other sim and get excellent 2g and pretty decent 3g..
The sensation just doesnt work with vodafone (for me and many others) Which tells me that this is to do with vodafones signal - it must be on a different frequency or something
The case is building so they cannot ignore us !
Its a shame because i really like vodafone, The CS is great (others will disagree) The network is strong (on any other phone) They never hassle me when my bill is late (all the time) Ive been with them for a long time i would like to continue to use them...
And finally i like the sensation, I chose it over the SGS2 and i do not regret it.... But i feel like the only way to get this sorted is to swap for the SGS2 or leave them all together for another carrier.
And finally finally. I live 1/2 a mile from the nearest tower... Ive walked by it many times with my dog....

T-Mobile giving away free home signal boosters

Hi sorry for posting in the Sensation forum but my device is the Sensation so I posted here. Tmo is giving away FREE in home signal boosters. I got a text message about this so I inquired about it. I figured what the heck my signal is spotty in my house. I received the booster today and it really works! I'm still wondering what the catch is?? But really it was for FREE! And it works! Just wanted to let others know its available, just ask for it. I had a contract with them anyway so no loss for me. Its actually nice to have a good signal at home now!

yes I believe it does lock your contract in but for those of us who already are contracted for the two years like I was no loss. What it is is a booster you put near a window then another received you place furthest from the booster. The actual device name is CEL-FI. I was

It's rare to come across this, but I honestly don't believe you. You bumped this like 3 times with random sales-esque advertisements about this "cool, free deal". It's like you're trying to secure as many two year contracts as you can.

if you can set it set right
I wasn't told it changed my contract and the change on April 5 made me drop T-Mobile

What's the point of this if wifi calling is available?
Okay, so if you don't have any wifi in the house (which is rare, I mean it's 2012, and most modems come with the wifi router in one unit) and or your phone doesn't support UMA. Pretty useless IMO

I finally got them to send me one cause I get virtually no signal in my house. It was totally free of charge and no contract extention. They have certain terms that apply. For instance you can't live in an apartment. Now I basically live in a duplex but its technically a one family dwelling according to my local county auditors office so after talking to 3 representatives I was finally able to get the MFs to send me one (expedited shipping). They were telling me something about 911 and them not knowing which place to go to. Now honestly I could see how that would be a problem but me and my neighbors all have the same door to go into. Difference is that you go upstairs to my place and straight into my neighbor's when you go in the front door. Plus my 911 info says upstairs on it anyways. So I will finally be able to use my phone in my own home. I am very excited. You gotta tell them you got a text message about it and make sure if you live in an apartment that it is technically a "one family dwelling". I was lucky.
By the way, not everybody lives in NYC, close together where everyone can get access to free wifi signals in the comfort of their own homes. I did have internet at home with a wifi router but I did not want to pay for 50 a month for home internet and 20 a month for mobile internet too. So how is it "pretty useless" if you don't have wifi and or your phone don't support uma? It is a signal booster. It boosts your signal inside your home when you would otherwise have no signal. Not everyone lives in Perfectnothingevergoeswrongland.
